Former Sporting Kansas City midfielder Gadi Kinda has died at age 31, his club Maccabi Haifa announced on Tuesday.
Maccabi Haifa announced earlier this month that Kinda was hospitalized while “going through a complex medical battle in recent weeks.”
His last game for the Israeli club was on March 29.
“Maccabi Haifa Football Club mourns the death of the team’s player, Gadi Raphael Kinda, who passed away at the age of 31,” the club said in a statement.
“The Maccabi Haifa family hugs the Kinda family and prays that they will not know any more sorrow.”
Kinda spent four seasons with Sporting KC between 2020 and 2023. He tallied 14 goals and 16 assists in 64 regular-season games, missing the entire 2022 MLS campaign with an injury.
Kinda was born in Ethiopia and moved to Israel when he was a young child. He earned 10 caps for Israel at the international level, spending most of his pro career in the Israeli Premier League.
