Trevor Harris finally captured his first Grey Cup title as a starting quarterback in his 13th CFL season, leading the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a 25–17 win over the Montreal Alouettes. The victory marked Saskatchewan’s fifth championship and first since 2013.
Harris delivered a historic performance, setting a Grey Cup record with 85.2% completion and avoiding sacks and turnovers. His quick-release passing and key second-down conversions helped control the game, especially in the final drive. Saskatchewan also benefited from timely breaks, including a dropped pick-six opportunity by Montreal’s Kabion Ento and a pivotal fumble by Shea Patterson at the Roughriders’ three-yard line, which halted Montreal’s late comeback attempt.
Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander, battling a hamstring injury, threw three interceptions and struggled with power and rhythm, finishing with 284 yards and no touchdowns. Despite his effort and determination, his limitations contributed to Montreal’s defeat.
The Roughriders’ head coach Corey Mace made a crucial early challenge that turned a turnover on downs into a touchdown, setting the momentum. The team’s resilience and season-long consistency culminated in a well-deserved championship.
As for Harris, now 39, retirement questions loom. While he brushed off discussion, his legacy is secured with a Grey Cup win as a starter. Saskatchewan may hope he returns after a healthy and successful season, but his future remains uncertain.
