Philip Rivers has withdrawn from the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching search, sources told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
Rivers interviewed for the position Friday despite having no previous NFL or college coaching experience. Since 2021, he’s been the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, where his son is the starting quarterback and entering his senior season.
Rivers seemingly enjoyed the interview process with the Bills but doesn’t believe it’s the the right time for him and his family to jump to the NFL coaching ranks, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The 44-year-old came out of retirement to join the Indianapolis Colts this season after a five-year hiatus from the league. He started three games after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. The Colts went 0-3 under Rivers, who totaled 544 passing yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions.
