Mark Dantonio announces his retirement from Michigan State

Michigan State Football head coach Mark Dantonio has announced he is stepping down after more than a decade at MSU. While at the helm of the Spartans, Dantonio led his team to 3 BIG 10 Championships, a Rose Bowl Victory, and a College Football Playoff birth. He departs East Lansing as the winningest coach in program history.

The 63-year coach cites that his family was the main motivator in his abrupt departure. “After much reflection and discussion with my family, I feel that it is now time for a change as we enter into a new decade of Michigan State Football. I will miss it all but feel the sacrifices that I have made away from my family must now become my priority at this time in my life,” Dantonio said. Mark added that he will continue to work with the athletic department on what he calls “special projects”. As Dantonio has closed the door on his successful college career, some believe this has opened the door for defensive coordinator Mike Tressel. Tressel will assume the roll of acting head coach.
