Aaron Rodgers reacts to Packers drafting Jordan Love

Speaking with reporters for the first time since the Packers drafted Love, Rodgers admitted that he was surprised.

Rodgers said on a conference call with reporters, “The general reaction at first was surprise, like many people. Not going to say I was thrilled by the pick, necessarily. But I understand the organization is not thinking just about the present, but the future and I respect that.”

The Dolphins sent the No. 26 pick used on Love to the Packers in a trade for the No. 30 overall selection and the No. 136 pick in the draft. Love’s career at Utah State was an interesting one that included a breakout 2018 season.

The 2019 season, however, saw significant steps back for Love under a new head coach and with much of his supporting cast gone. Love threw for 3,402 yards, 20 touchdowns and 17 picks last season compared to 3,567 yards, 32 touchdowns and six picks in 2018. Against LSU’s national championship defense, Love was 15-for-30 with 130 yards and three interceptions.
