John McKeller 1:10
Thanks for having us. It’s pleasure to be on.

Bubba 1:12
Yeah. Thanks for having us on.

Santiago Leon 1:14
Let’s go with Bubba. You’re telling me you’re originally from Seattle now in Scotland. Tell us your story. How’d you got to the old country?

Bubba 1:24
Well, it was just kind of a two week holiday, but going to the UK a little bit, see a few things I had been previously wanting to see more of the country and just kind of went from London to Manchester to Liverpool to Dublin. and ended up back in London again, this kind of had a long weekend. I was traveling on the French girl and she kind of said, Let’s go to Edinburgh and I was trying to get her to say let’s go to Paris and wants to speak the language. She went out I came to Edinburgh. And yeah, I’ve just been here ever since. So just kind of was like, well, there’s constant crashes in Seattle. There wasn’t any jobs. And so I was like, well Let’s go ahead and stick out my six month tourist visa. Funny enough I ended up finding out there was a local baseball team here. So me and john know each other from from amateur baseball in Scotland. So I went into it Alright, there’s a couple of guys down here and end up playing baseball with them. And then from there from, from playing to managing to President league and I never tired about three years ago.

Santiago Leon 2:22
We’ll talk about baseball in Scotland soon. JOHN, tell us a little bit about yourself.

John McKeller 2:27
Yeah, like Jason says, pleased to see him leave the Scottish National Baseball League. I’ve been a baseball fan for just under 20 years, I became a baseball fan Kane of my chance. I hired All Star baseball 2002 on the PlayStation two from an old video store. Just on a whim one weekend, I was looking for something a bit different. I was already a hockey fan. You know, hockey fans since 1985. So, you know I had I was vaguely aware of this. You know, obscure sport, baseball. played the game really quite enjoyed it. And we had at the time on terrestrial TV, a live game every Sunday. So I decided to check out a couple of games and feel completely loved in sport in 2001. I mean, Yankees five, which doesn’t always go down so well. But yeah, I’ve watched for several years. I just love the game. It you know, I had to sacrifice a lot of sleep and probably a few of my exam results. But yeah, I’ve been a big fan for 20 years and eventually try though, one of the no defunct teams in Scotland Strathclyde Falcons 20 hour training session with a friend of mine but my buddy at a time just wasn’t into the travel who would have to do so I just kind of a few years later in 2013 decided to run a Google search and see if there were any active baseball clubs or in classical I was fortunate enough to find Oh, there was a classical baseball Association. It was known at a time was playing in torcross in Glasgow and East End. So I went along to some training sessions and just immediately felt like I wanted to play. So I made my debut on June 30 2013 and became a member of the inaugural classical comets, which was one of two teams that can explain all the way from the Gospel baseball Association club and the following season in 2014. I’ve been playing for the comments ever since the NFC, left field, right field mostly. And occasionally second base we have as a neat so I’ve been playing for seven years now,

Santiago Leon 4:42
Bubba, obviously, baseball is huge in America. We got to Scotland How big is a sport in Scotland.

Bubba 4:50
So when I joined, I think there was two teams in Scotland and a junior team. So we had to travel the north of England so that meant for our trips to Liberty Or Manchester, five hole. So I mean all in all, there’s probably 90 teams throughout the UK. So it’s a pretty small sport, there’s probably about 2000 people that are playing. So, you know, we get up at 6am in the morning drive. For hours, basically roll out the car, play a doubleheader, and then drive back and come back again. So you’d be have a full hours of baseball all day long. Have you watched it go bigger and bigger each year? You know, it’s you know, now with MLB. TV, it’s much easier as he said, there was channel five, there was two presenters use new game on Wednesdays and Sundays. So you were just kind of presented with whatever is there. So like, I distinctly remember the first game being the Royals versus the race back in 2003. It was it wasn’t a hugely popular game, but you know, it was baseball on TV. So So yeah, so just glad to see the game grow bigger and bigger. And of course, when you go to continent, it’s much bigger in Europe than it is in UK.

Santiago Leon 5:58
JOHN, I noticed Soccer is probably the number one sport in Scotland. But what pecking order would you put baseball in? Is it like the fourth? Like the fourth biggest sport in Scotland, like what are your thoughts?

John McKeller 6:14
I don’t think so. Baseball is a very niche sport stolen Scotland, football, rugby, even ice hockey, and cricket is probably even bigger. And Scotland then baseball is still at this point. What we have in Scotland and it’s a it’s a positive thing. As well as I can have small very tea community. So as an amateur League, it’s seven teams. You know, the people who are involved at each the kind of flag bearers are the people who are passionate about the clubs and stuff like that. So it’s a small niche but as a passionate one. I don’t think it would register On the kind of scale of top sports here, for certainly soccer football, as we call it here is by far number one.

Santiago Leon 7:07
Which country in Europe do you think is big into baseball?

John McKeller 7:11
I would say La. Probably quite a few Italian players have ended up in our league, either after retiring or during kind of studies or whatever. We’ve had a couple of really talented Italian players. Si. Le is probably by far the number one in Europe.

Santiago Leon 7:29
something to definitely look at because I’ve heard different countries of course outside the US you hear a lot of like Latin American countries, and now like the agent leagues are definitely growing. Even ESPN got the rights to show it on like their platforms and it’s it’s good obviously. And now that Major League Baseball has started, Bubba, what are your first thoughts on opening day yesterday?

Bubba 7:59
You know, it’s been up to about three o’clock in the morning. Watch the rain out happens. A little disappointed those looking forward some baseball but you know, I was pretty excited to see some baseball. I mean, john, we’re chatting through the night. You probably told me about Giancarlo Stanton’s home run and definitely hit him window. lensing was launched so far. So yeah, a couple of people. I was chatting to her saying go watch the Dodgers game. They’re big Dodger fans, but not gonna do it. My games I like three o’clock morning, mariners. We’ll see what happens and

Santiago Leon 8:31
yeah, which last night, the Yankees beat the Washington Nationals. A an impressive four to one score. And of course San Francisco Giants beat a no the La La team beat the San Francisco Giants eight to one. These two teams are the favorited to win the World Series or the season I guess I’m not sure if they’re gonna call the World Series. JOHN, what do you think about these two themes? Do you think the Yankees and the Dodgers are the two best teams in baseball right now?

Bubba 9:11
You asked him. That’s right. Yeah. JOHN will say Yeah, probably us. We’ve had this discussion on our podcast. And obviously with him being a big Yankee fan, like I’ve been hearing about for the last six months is about Garrett Cole. And it is to see him pitch. So

Santiago Leon 9:26
now with the 16 game season, Bubba, where do you thoughts about that? Obviously, it’s gonna be short in might be called an asterick season. Do you think it’ll be good season even though it’ll have six games?

Bubba 9:39
Yeah, I think so. I mean, it’s a long enough season there. It’s really gonna be a sprint. I think you’re gonna see some unusual players got the hot start and kind of like winning a home run race. Or like, you know, we really interesting to see how pitchers are used this week. You’re gonna have your middle relievers. Do you guys see the season because we’re gonna have to go through and eat them every day. Just curious, the other managers use, you know, the three by two rule. So it’s, it’s gonna be a fun one and make it all 60 games and get a playoff.

Santiago Leon 10:10
Were you surprised with like the whole player union thing that I mean like all these talks and all these talks will take a long time to get the season going.

Bubba 10:20
Ah, no, not really. I mean, I can understand where you’re coming from I remember the 81 strike vaguely definitely remember the strike in 84 I think definitely the players deserved all the money they got coming to them. So, I mean, you’re talking about 30 billionaires or 30 companies that are billionaires, you know, the drop of a hat for them. I was disappointed to cancel the minor league season. You know, now it’s a five round draft. I think they’re trying to you know, save a few bucks. So, you know, I’m all for the players trying to hold out for as much money as possible. You know, they’re the ones that put play on the field.

Santiago Leon 10:50
What have you heard about like the playoff format? After September 27. Like what do you think that like? Will they do

Bubba 10:58
it be interesting Like, again, like a nationalist. It just became a buzzsaw got a hot streak there. You can see some surprise teams knock things off. That’s one thing I find about talking to baseball people in the UK because they’re so used to saying, Okay, well, it’s a man, you are a Liverpool plane. There’s expected when I said that’s it. Now, any given day, you might be off that one day, and it’s not gonna make a difference. And so I that just not used to 116 game schedule going yet. It’s baseball is on all year. So, so anything can happen. So I think the playoffs with the expanded format should be exciting this year. It was just a one year thing. You know, keep back.

Santiago Leon 11:34
Yeah, that’s something about baseball, that it’s all year long. And you could possibly play two games in one day.

Bubba 11:43
Yeah, absolutely. I’d be surprised if we don’t get more doubleheaders in I know why they don’t do it. The revenues aren’t there for it. But you know, as we’ll get a few more and get more punches in the game.

Santiago Leon 11:54
Who Who is your favorite team. Obviously, you weren’t a montrail had but who’s your favorite To Major League Baseball, and how far do you think they’ll go?

Bubba 12:03
So where’s my team’s? That’s where I’m from? I don’t think they’re going to go very far. I think you talk to us in two years. I think those are rookie crops looking real strong there. You’re gonna hit kind of the downward slide of Astros and hopefully, Mike trout might slow down. You never know what the angels but also Padre fan because my grandparents had retired in Yuma, Arizona. And that’s the position of spring training. So kind of ride whatever teams do the best. And I think the parties are looking really good. I mean, you get the juggernaut that the Dodgers and so it’s been tough on the knockoff there were were a few rule changes for this season. One of them is like the DH rule.

Santiago Leon 12:45
What are your thoughts about that?

Bubba 12:48
for this season, I’m fine with it. I really hope it doesn’t come in. I got understand why they wanted to come in there but I’m really kind of traditionalist. So like baseball, everything slow chain, so I think it will happen and you No, it’s kind of like the Nike swoosh in the jerseys it’s on last night. Not a big fan of them, especially with like the Yankees, their fans, but it looked wrong with the swoosh. So I try to keep things as traditional as possible.

Santiago Leon 13:12
That’s right. This is like their first year that Nike is doing the uniforms. Right?

Bubba 13:18
Yeah, it’s the first year so yeah. I’m not a big fan of Nike anyway. But that’s, that’s more to do with college than with Oregon State. And obviously, University of Oregon is funded by Nike.

Santiago Leon 13:30
In Oregon State’s a big rivalry of Oregon.

Bubba 13:33
Yeah. So, you know, I haven’t bought the Nike stuff like probably about 25 years. It

Santiago Leon 13:38
makes sense. Oh, my gosh, I mean, I’ve never realized that till now, because I have a contributor. I’ve actually on my podcast, who’s a huge organ fan. And on our Twitter account, we get a lot of like Oregon State, you know, people that come on and just hate on Oregon, but I could definitely see them that maybe we’re Jordy of the school doesn’t wear Nike maybe? Yeah,

Bubba 14:03
yeah. So, so even back back in the day I mean I went to Oregon State back in 94 so that was kind of like the heyday for Oregon State football you know we had Dennis Erickson and all that so when Phil Knight start pumping on the money into the University of Oregon, it was like, I can’t I can’t get any more nights and stuff.

Santiago Leon 14:22
Also for rule changes, they do not want to surpass like, like the towards the end of the game like like, like the week ending like ninth inning. Like I think every half inning after the last any We’ll begin with the runner on

Bubba 14:43
first and then it goes to the second. Yeah. I mean, it’s already used already. I can see him trying out there. I mean, we’re gonna get to 16 in game you already kind of committed to it. See why they’re doing it. You know, makes sense if you’re trying to slow down the pace of the game, or try to speed up the pace of the game and no one wants to sit through a five, six hour game, just say you have to go on, you know, safely the players you have to worry about to position players pitching now. So, you know, I’m actually proud of that one. You know, it’s gonna be weird. No, probably take a year God adjust to it. But you know, it should be for the better.

Santiago Leon 15:23
Yeah, what I noticed about baseball, I don’t know. Like, if it’s me, but there’s a whole lot of different rules kind of like there’s kind of like, I don’t know how to explain it, but he’s playing like, you think baseball rules are like way more complex versus football are like basketball.

Bubba 15:43
I think there’s so many little things about baseball, that it just comes into play constantly there. Whereas if you talk to say football and basketball, you kind of see it right there. Whereas with baseball, you know that there’s the BOC rule, there’s everything that goes along with it. So Do it’s one of those games that takes a long time to master. And I will admit that I know half the rulebook is even in there.

Santiago Leon 16:07
It feels like very detailed. JOHN, we’re talking about the rule changes for Major League Baseball this season. What are your thoughts over him?

John McKeller 16:18
Yeah, first off, sorry about that my phone died and have forgotten to charge it. Um, there are some of them that I don’t mind that are some of them that I like and there are some that I really don’t like the expand to playoffs which we’ll just agree them. See I was before frost patch last night. I’m not a fan of that. I can understand why they’ve decided to do it. And I can see that being a permanent fixture in the near future. I just don’t think you can have devalues the pennant race. So obviously in a year like this, it’s not so bad because as a sex the game sprint is probably a way to can offset some of the unfairness that may come with that inherently But I think it sets a dangerous precedent for baseball that has an ice hockey or basketball. This is, you know, this is baseball and they play 162 games for a reason. It’s to kind of weed out all but the best of the best. And so the texting game expanding this acting team rather expanded playoffs isn’t something that I want on board with the universal d h alake. For the season. And it’s something that I wasn’t a fan of before, but something that can warming to as a permanent thing. I don’t really mean to be permanent. I think it’s only a matter of time. I think it’s been a matter of time for real. It’s been common. Rob Manfred, I think is pretty much adamant about it. And the Players Association are going to be on board with that it’s going to get a chance for some guys who maybe don’t want to have to play the field every day to you know, have their backs on the lineup. So it’s something that teams will get on board with as well. Run out on the road scoring position in extra innings is an awful, awful rule. absolutely ludicrous. It’s just

Santiago Leon 18:09
huge disagreement on that one.

John McKeller 18:12
It’s not it’s not. It is not baseball. This is nonsense. We think

Bubba 18:21
you agree. We’ll come around on that. Like I said, First, absolutely against the video. The last thing I need to do is to say after four or five o’clock the morning to see the 16 games

John McKeller 18:32
baseball go along. What I would rather see is something like what the NHL used to do with us in the regular season. If it’s tight after 10 innings, why not just use your ties rather than the stupidness and then obviously just have continuous extra innings in the pool season. And I think I would rather see that than see this kind of Franken baseball. Excited to come away with. Yeah, not fun. Not a fan of the three bar minimum four patches. I think it takes a lot of strategy games and especially with the death of double switch, having entity the universal dh. Okay, I’m running out of, you know, situations for managers to actually manage in baseball. So I think the institution of the C bar minimum is not a great look, it’s also going to affect the careers of quite a lot of lefty Petros especially and who we are specialists. You kind of demanding the completely sweatshop, the role and change the patching styles and stuff like that. It’s not gonna it’s gonna not really feeling them. The expanded roster of 26 This is the way things are now obviously with the COVID-19 shortened season. I think they’re doing the best they can with the seven man roster for the last two weeks and kind of gradually decreasing from there. The 60 minute kind of taxi scored against the Cobra. That’s been One of the rules is one

Santiago Leon 20:04
with a position players pitching. no restrictions on position players we think about that.

John McKeller 20:09
Those things should be restrictions anyway. You should be able to clear whatever you manage Poochie, if a guy is professional and patching limb patch, if he needs to swing, and we.

Bubba 20:23
Yeah, I’m all for it. Like I said, Let the guys go. Let me get that point out. But I think what you’re going to see is maybe five years down the line, you’ll see more of any of the guys named down in Tampa Bay, who can pitch and balance MCI, okay. And I think he’s coming in as like a lefty specialist as a pitcher, but he also played some first base and outfield so I think you’re gonna see more of those people kind of come up there. As you know, you have more depth from the bench work I want to mention. Hey, throw in your two and then go into the field and play the rest again.

Santiago Leon 20:55
How about No kidding?

John McKeller 20:57
I think it’s completely understandable given This is gonna be weird for players, I guess not to be able to spell or like the fingers and stuff like that. But you can load a misprint in this situation. I don’t think it’s not safe.

Bubba 21:12
I think it’s also changed there. I think you go back in the day you had guys that were doing a lot of tobacco. And so, I mean, there’s still guys are doing that, but it wasn’t nearly the same as it was 20 years ago. You know, everyone’s kind of chewing seeds these days and whatnot. So, you know, spraying the seeds thing was kind of silly, but you know, I could feel the stop. Anybody can do that. But I’m also curious about what they’re going to do about the wet rag and the back pocket for pitchers. Now. How long is it going to take before someone mixes something in there to see for something like that go something extra on the ball.

John McKeller 21:44
Yeah, first pitching the Astros games a couple hours away. So

Santiago Leon 21:51
who’s your favorite team? JOHN?

John McKeller 21:54
the Yankees? I mean, I guess.

Santiago Leon 21:56
So. Okay. Because before you lead, we’re gonna I’m I was asking you, which two teams from each of the leagues will go deep in the playoffs, and possibly me at the World Series.

John McKeller 22:12
Think the Dodgers are going to be the runaway favorites to win the World Series I think this year. And the American League. I think the angels have a show, you know, they’ve got very strong scored, they may know how the pitching depth, but that may not be necessary in a season like this. Way salts could be an outlier as well. Obviously, I do expect the Yankees to make the postseason, especially with the expanded playoffs, whether they have the ability to stay healthy enough to go all the way this team is going to be the test. And in the past few years, they haven’t shown that they’ve been able to do that. So I’m not going to be too confident until we get like the end of the season. Last night was in college in Chicago start focused, get a call pitched extremely well after the nerf sailed. There were no calamities in the Enfield from glaber Torres he seems to be comfortable enough where he has no. But yeah, I think the angels could be asleep or asleep or trying to be honest, be short, but I think the Dodgers will probably win the World Series as you

Santiago Leon 23:28
Baba, what are your predictions for the 2020 season?

Bubba 23:33
I want to say I think the Dodgers gonna be up there, but I think the Yankees probably in a budget. We just have too much money in depth to do it there. But you know, I think you’ll see two people hit 400 this year, goes out that way. I think there’s I mean, the short season 60 games, you have two people hit on it.

Santiago Leon 23:50
Were you guys able to watch that 3430 between Sosa and Mark McGwire it sounds

Bubba 24:00
I haven’t seen it yet. So but you can get it out here. I just haven’t had a chance to watch it yet

Santiago Leon 24:04
very good documentary. It obviously goes into detail what happened behind the scenes Sammy Sosa looks like really different when you see him today, it’s it’s kind of weird because I didn’t know was him until they all got the same result. So right.

Bubba 24:18
Okay.

Santiago Leon 24:20
So quite interesting story, obviously, like that happened back in 98. Wow. So this season will be definitely different. But as baseball fans what I’ve been hearing that, yes, there’s rule changes. Yes. So like the postseason will be a bit different. But do you think they’ll be fans eventually towards the World Series, or do you think they’re going to stick with no audience?

John McKeller 24:41
I don’t think we’ll see fans and ballparks until probably midway through next season. But we haven’t had the second wave yet. either. I don’t I don’t see it. That would be very irresponsible, I think to have funds in the stadium by the end of the season and certainly the summer next. It’s unlikely See friends at the NFL parks this season? You know?

Santiago Leon 25:05
We thought about

Bubba 25:06
Yeah, like I said I could see some fans here but you know, we gotta be safe. I think about there I watched a couple clips of MBA that was really odd to see kind of what they had going and they’re really quiet no one there. So we get some fans back the better as long as you do it safely. Yeah, I think John’s right. We’re probably looking at next season before we start getting the seats.

Santiago Leon 25:29
JOHN obviously you’re you also watch a little bit of soccer. Can you tell us a quick update on what’s going on with like the Scottish Premier League and your thoughts of this weekend for the English Premier League?

John McKeller 25:41
Yeah, sure. I’m certainly indeed that is my strength. I tend to watch Italian football more but that’s coming season is going to be potentially on milestone one and I think it will be Glasgow Celtic and one day in a row, namely tails in a row which is ties the all time record that was set by both ends ranges previously I think that Celtic are going to comfortably went to 10 straight and bigger record that’s coming season. Rangers are back to being one of the top two teams about the distance they can still the have looked really good in the friendlies that have played both in France and against Motherwell a couple of days back. But when it comes to like a full season, which Let’s hope it has a full season gonna be all the obeah to season next season. I think that Celtic are still just a step above and quite comfortable when there’s still the Scottish Cup for this past season to to finish, which I think CLT will also win the just to a good deal the step above anyone else, and quite a few steps upon majority of the week, the beggar European club compared to this kind of It’s like it’s not particularly strong Lego say to the top two.

Santiago Leon 27:07
And you were saying that you watch the Italian league Who is your favorite club from the Syria.

John McKeller 27:12
I’m an AS Roma fan have been since the mid 90s. I used to watch short called football Italia on Channel Four over here. And I feel completely in love with the call of tortie. Francesco taught here is my guy, and I grew up idolizing him. So here in the Astro muffin. They’ve had an up and down season. But since the start, they’ve kind of changed a system has really led to some better performances and some good results. So just beat spouse x one couple of weeks ago, so things are looking good there. And I think we will finish in the Europa League spot.

Santiago Leon 27:54
Baba, you know, living in Europe for 17 years have you caught on to any European sport? I’ve been there

Bubba 28:01
you know what I love down with the Euro Cup and the World Cup like the atmosphere is absolutely amazing when it was in Germany and what 2006 I went to a couple matches there. Cut the USA gonna match there that was great. She so you can definitely get wrapped up into it there. If I’m gonna follow anyone in the English Premier League. My wife is a Liverpool fan so automatically makes me a Liverpool fan there. So obviously she’s thrilled about what’s happening now that way. We always have had a chance to watch as many games as we want right now but yeah, it’s kind of hard to avoid going to the states and seeing baseball bats one NFL on you just can’t miss it. So

Santiago Leon 28:42
how far so you were saying like the drive to Liverpool like isn’t too far, isn’t it?

Bubba 28:49
about a five hour drive to Liverpool?

Santiago Leon 28:51
Okay, it’s not too bad, but was it closest to like the border with Scotland Unlike England, like how far is it? I mean ours?

Bubba 29:06
Well, john, we think it’s about one hour and a half, two hours,

John McKeller 29:10
probably from when I’m about to two and a half hour drive. Yeah, yeah. Well, we’re kind of in the lowlands. There’s like a whole kind of majority of Scotland is kind of north of where we are. So we’re kind of in the central bill going to want the bottom part. So it’s not terribly far from see Carlisle and Newcastle which is Newcastle is probably the closest kind of say, an England that you could go watch kind of talk to ball up. And

Santiago Leon 29:41
you know, we’re in North Park. Interesting. Well, wow, this is this is really incredible. I met you guys on Twitter, and is good to have in hindsight of how a American living in Scotland and then yourself. JOHN from Scotland who loves baseball and Syria, interesting covenant I’m wondering what else do you like wrestling?

John McKeller 30:07
I used to like wrestling growing up, but I’ve kind of fallen away from it in the past couple of years. I just don’t think funny anymore.

Santiago Leon 30:13
You guys watch the mike tyson fight in September?

John McKeller 30:17
I’ll probably check

Santiago Leon 30:19
it out pay 50 bucks or 100 Well, over here will be $100 but yeah,

John McKeller 30:23
I think is something like 40 pounds or something which is less

Santiago Leon 30:27
over there because we have a contributor from England. He says like, Wait less money than over here is like, yeah.

John McKeller 30:35
I think how young makes gonna potentially kill, right

Santiago Leon 30:42
54 year olds 31 year old should be quite interested.

John McKeller 30:44
Depends just how seriously they’re going to take it. But if it’s going to be a problem, they don’t see how mike tyson loses. So when you see him training, you see the shape that he’s got himself into 54 It’s scary. You know, Tyson and he’s praying was terrifying, like a 54 year old case is almost more scary because it’s a 54 year old who can potentially knock your head off and potentially it’s not guaranteed he won’t be too often. You think he has Yeah, you’ve seen a video of him and he’s still late and fastest ever. It’s gonna be an interesting thing to see. But I’m not one No, watch. We’ll

Santiago Leon 31:23
see what happens. I mean, September during this COVID era, we could get bored and just watch some ridiculous fights like that. So we’ll see what happens. Anything else before we get into predictions?

Bubba 31:37
Know, the one thing out here is simply some forts. I’ve never heard of like shinki so they’re to ship.

John McKeller 31:45
I’ve never had a shanty Eva.

Bubba 31:47
She got ccmp.

John McKeller 31:50
I’ve heard of sheni. But no, I don’t know anything about that. I couldn’t tell you. The first thing about Shanti Shanti is plagued by chuckles it’s not it’s not his tribe. No mainstream sport at all.

Santiago Leon 32:03
darts is big in the UK, isn’t it?

John McKeller 32:06
darts is big Yeah, we have well documented alcohol problem in Windows alcohol was Doc’s.

Santiago Leon 32:12
Yeah, it’s weird because I always hear like there’s you know, like, because I sometimes listened to UK radio and I hear Yeah, well Haven’t I like a little darts match on Saturday night? I was like, oh, wow, that’s a professional sport. I didn’t know that. Well, Colin. Janus

John McKeller 32:28
is professional.

Santiago Leon 32:29
And it was one. I forgot the name of the sport. It was like my eight years ago. I heard it but I forgot the name of it. And I can’t think of it right now. Butwhat was that

John McKeller 32:39
Curling?

Santiago Leon 32:41
No, I don’t think so. I have to do my research. My friend Andrew Evans. He’s from London. And I told him about it. Yeah, that’s an old sport. But cricket is bigger. Bigger, like, you know, it’s a number three sport over there, right?

Bubba 32:56
Yeah, it’s huge.

John McKeller 32:57
Yeah, it’s certainly in England, as is Whenever you got one not so much, but there are there are Scottish clickers. Golf is probably bigger than Scotland and

Santiago Leon 33:09
yeah, that’s where it started in Scotland, right?

John McKeller 33:12
It does. Yeah, yeah. The old courses and Andrews is I think we can we became the original course

Bubba 33:17
does he leave links down just not my way. So like about a mile away is the original first course. Not where it’s no, I think the first question of course, you’re talking about the old courses don’t like that. Yes. The first course is called leaf links. It’s live about a mile from where I’m at.

John McKeller 33:34
Coal can only be invented in Edinburgh.

Santiago Leon 33:39
Anyway, let’s go into predictions. San Francisco Giants versus the LA Dodgers who wins tonight. Blue Jays versus the race.

John McKeller 33:51
I think the Blue Jays gonna wake up.

Santiago Leon 33:54
found a new home in Buffalo by the way because of Buffalo Blue Jays

John McKeller 34:01
na fujis

Santiago Leon 34:02
Rockies versus the Rangers. Rangers.

Bubba 34:07
It’s a it’s what’s his name is? Who started the Rangers. It’s a it’s clover, isn’t it?

Santiago Leon 34:17
I don’t know, john no more than I would

Bubba 34:19
write. I think qubits started I think

John McKeller 34:23
it’s called cliver. Yep. So

Santiago Leon 34:25
yeah, we got Baba.

Bubba 34:27
I’ll go with ranges. They’re like Cooper i think i think you’ll do well.

Santiago Leon 34:30
He’s the man pirates versus the Cardinals.

Bubba 34:34
I think the Cardinals on that thing the Cardinals are always Yeah,

John McKeller 34:37
john I think the Cardinals are a strong team they’ll they’ll handily beat the pirates.

Santiago Leon 34:43
The mariners versus the Astros?

Bubba 34:46
The Paisley will see that I think the ashes in the bag but you know what? Talk to me two years old. We have Caitlyn

Santiago Leon 34:54
and john Astor.

John McKeller 34:55
Yeah, um, I think the Astros are going to be phenomenal as the modern are like Jason says I think models are so a couple of weeks years away from from being a contender is frustratingly you know they always seem to be a couple of years away but then they always treat the rear their back PCs that their own teams. I don’t know whether they’ll just poorly run or whether it’s a budgetary thing where they just need to keep turning over players but I think the Astor’s is even with all the controversies over the past offseason they are still one of the better teams in baseball and they will still easily defeat the models

Santiago Leon 35:31
and finally, the angels versus the athletics

John McKeller 35:36
I think we can choose when not quite easily

Bubba 35:39
with athletics. Pick the A’s have more depth on angels don’t have any pitching.

Santiago Leon 35:47
Yeah, a lot of detail with baseball’s almost like football ever positions is is key. You know it’s a game of stats and definitely a game of strategy as well. Wow. This is really quite impressive. I am. I’m really stoked to see you know that there’s a baseball culture in Scotland Poll Question of the day on our Twitter account. What is the best Mexican drink? a Mexican coca cola? portata Mexican hot chocolate or heikkila

Bubba 36:24
Yeah, I like them personally. So

Santiago Leon 36:28
john,

Bubba 36:29
know what the heck is that?

John McKeller 36:32
I don’t drink. Oh, good.

Santiago Leon 36:34
Let’s drink.

John McKeller 36:36
Yeah.

Bubba 36:38
It’s like Mexican cola is is basically real sugar made from coke.

Santiago Leon 36:43
Yeah, pretty much.

Bubba 36:45
Yeah. Whereas you get stuff we got here is corn syrup. Other saying that when you hit Europe, you actually buy coke. You actually get made with sugar. They don’t put all the concert right here.

Santiago Leon 36:55
Oh, really interesting. Um, what alcoholic drink You cannot find here. I mean, what Scottish drink you cannot find here and USA

John McKeller 37:07
are you? Okay national drink so although national drink other than whiskey

Bubba 37:14
oh my gosh got a bottle Hold on You won’t see it but yeah, that

Santiago Leon 37:21
looks really yeah.

Bubba 37:24
So yeah it’s an orange color and kind of a cream soda it’s the best way to really

Santiago Leon 37:30
how much is it?

Bubba 37:33
I think it was like $3

Santiago Leon 37:36
Oh gotcha now Bubba What do you miss that you cannot find in Scotland a steak a burger like what do you really miss

Bubba 37:46
things that come around here so I mean over so long I mean Mexican foods obviously everyone’s number one you just can’t get anything close to authentic they’re your standards completely dropped. You just kind of make do it’s just that like okay, you know you find a lot of recipes and make yourself and go Alright, that’s close you get to do you talk to anyone out here like I miss proper Mexican

Santiago Leon 38:08
food. Interesting. I hear one comment from American soccer player that they couldn’t find good applesauce.

Bubba 38:15
Yeah, you can look for it.

Santiago Leon 38:19
Right?

Bubba 38:21
So the same thing like within like whenever I go back home that we do a thing out here called a bacon roll. It’s what you do for breakfast and it’s literally just like a hamburger bun but a different kind of button there and then bacon and then catch up we have a breakfast and that’s the ever That sounds good.

Santiago Leon 38:37
Yeah, don’t have that every day.

John McKeller 38:39
I am a vegetarian.

Santiago Leon 38:42
Okay, so john doesn’t go to McDonald’s very much over there.

John McKeller 38:47
Don’t really know.

Santiago Leon 38:49
Now, like the McDonald’s over there has cool burgers I’ve heard right but

John McKeller 38:54
Well, yeah.

Bubba 38:55
It’s, it’s basically the same but then you have like

flavors the most You know,

Santiago Leon 39:01
New York burger I heard

Bubba 39:02
or something. Yeah, I’ll do that and they’ll do like, like a Carolina burger. Louisa hot burger so everyone’s always seems to pop up you go all right. That’s interesting take on what you would think there because we have no idea what they even sell back home but then like I tried Hot Cheetos the first nine weeks ago, please can’t get out here hasn’t heard about Hot Cheetos for years and

Santiago Leon 39:25
yeah, quite interesting. I know. Like I was there in London about five years ago definitely saw some new stuff that I didn’t see here in the States Anyways, what is the best way to reach you guys?

Bubba 39:37
So you can find me on all social media platforms. I’m at Bob on baseball, that’s there. And then we do a joint podcast on Squarespace over here called bobcats and bagpipes, John’s the one that gives the pitch and not to let him go That

Santiago Leon 39:53
was the best way to reach you.

John McKeller 39:55
Um, either through my personal Twitter which is at Jordan, Capps papes or Through the ball caps and by pipes, which is at caps and papes. So we can be found on Facebook the same just ball caps and bagpipes or research our caps on papes in the search bar and fee speaking famous their homepage for the podcast is anchor.fm slash caps and peeps, but the show can be found there on all the usual podcasting platforms.

Santiago Leon 40:21
Good. Good platform use anchor is definitely one of the best podcasts. Of course, you can reach us at the sports cast dotnet at the sports cast net or on Twitter at the sports cast one for the latest and greatest we’ll be following what’s happening college football next week. We’ll see if the SEC decides to go full schedule or limited season. So we’ll see what happens. And my last question is of the night. How can we get baseball big in Scotland

Bubba 40:50
since everyone’s running amateur baseball grassroots there, so it was really hard. I’d like to see smart games played in Europe. That’d be pretty awesome. I finally had it. He’ll definitely attract more more attention there by me, Europe and it’s 10 times bigger over there than it is over here.

Santiago Leon 41:06
Interesting. Yeah. And with that with like, with Italy, I heard something about that and john confirmed it. So, now we know that Italy is playing baseball. I heard Holland does play baseball too, right?

John McKeller 41:18
Yeah. I believe they call it hunk ball. And then in Holland,

Bubba 41:27
Italy, France, Spain. You know, they’re all they all have a lot of good players. You’ve seen a lot of the Eastern European teams get bigger and bigger. So yeah, I mean, this works really growing rapidly in Europe right now. Hey,

Santiago Leon 41:40
that’s my Bibles over there. He’s a baseball evangelist.

Bubba 41:45
Your best.

Santiago Leon 41:47
Anyways, john and Bubba. I really appreciate you guys coming on to the sports cast.
