great and wonderful. Philadelphia.
Victor Arocho
Yes. In one little Philadelphia and I’m in Miami Fort Lauderdale. We’re both giant fans. So go figure. That’s why they say jersey because it’s in New York that’s in a wrong stadium for luck. I like to start the show real quick with a this is our first podcast together. We’ve known each other for a long time since I was a freshman in high school. But I want to dedicate this show in our first episode to two people very near and dear to me. One as you see on the bottom of our screen. To your to your right, you should see a hashtag love like Edward young gentlemen, I coach since fourth grade in baseball and basketball than I had the privilege from fourth all the way to high school had the privilege of mentoring him out of out of college, and fortunately died this year 23 in a tragic car accident. So whenever you have a chance to hashtag out love, like ever appreciated now shout out to develop this family. They’re like my family and I’m not alone. So it’s really a difficult it’s like a son to me. And I’d like to also dedicate this to a really good friend of mine. And there was like a son. This is a gentleman that I just admired as a mentor and Byron is found some information about me. I’d like for him to talk a little bit about that. How McDaniels or Dr. Pella, McDaniels the third was a nine year NFL veteran, most of the time with Kansas City Chiefs. Thank God, he was able to see his beloved chiefs win the Super Bowl. He died this year at the age of 52, leaving behind a beautiful wife, and two beautiful kids. So, you know, we don’t talk about the great things that NFL athletes do need to bed. And this is probably not only a gentleman I admired, but it was somebody that is a phenomenal role model. Byron, you You looked up a little bit about him, what were your thoughts when I told you about them and you check them out?
Unknown Speaker
A little bit of information about about it seemed like he was a great person. No, great man.
Byron Jones
You know, in life, people don’t realize, you know, how special person is, you know, until they’re gone. And you know, it’s too late, then. That wasn’t when they’re gone. And, you know, this is one of the got young men here that, you know, should have been, you know, plastered all over the news. As far as all the things the other books, he’s wrote the different organization that he was involved with. He’s one of those people that it should have been out in front. Not one. You’re the bad stuff a year. You’re the gangbangers or just the craziness in the world. Yeah, he wanted to look up more stuff about him. And jack would like to know a little bit more about this gentleman.
Victor Arocho
Yeah, he was fantastic. He was um, he’s Dr. Paul McDonald’s guys, factor is post NFL. And he was a leader in many aspects. He was an inventor or writer, an author, Professor, professional athletes. So shout out to Pope McDaniels and the Kansas City Chiefs. As you can tell by reliable Jersey Boys, they were giant fans. So we’re gonna get we’re gonna get started today. And one thing about our show is we’re always going to have a segment where we’re trying to find we’re not trying we’re going to find people like Pelham that made impact after sports during sports, regardless of the sport it is. So we want to make sure we bring those type of athletes and people to the to the limelight. That fair environment. All right, so today, I wanted to start off real quick. Unfortunately, we’re talking about the NBA Finals, and my heat got beat up last night. A pretty bad and not only did we get beat up in the last column, we got beat up by losing our star, the dragon gore and for the rest of the playoffs. And he was averaging close to 20 points a game, but no highlight about this. Byron, you know, I know. Up north there’s big fans and I was a big, big fan. So I came down here. But the gentleman Gora was actually the sixth man off the bench and the person that he he in front of them got injured. Kendrick Nunn has done was playing so well became Rookie of the Year and but then he got hurt Gordon came on and never left the starting position. So now it’s reversing so let’s hope that you know Kendrick Nunn has it in him to prove that why he’s he should be Rookie of the you know, NBA all NBA Rookie. And he’s got he’s got to make up for gore right? See does if you were starter You know how it is you just started You’re out. Someone’s playing better than you you feel. Okay, I got this now the guy is you have to be prepared to go in and anytime correct?
Byron Jones
Yep. Anytime you have to be ready for what your numbers call you got to be. step up to the plate.
Victor Arocho
Yeah, and I think I see him get some rust out of them. He looked pretty good last night Even though in a bad loss but what do you think about the NBA with LeBron and ad getting together and making these uh, these master teams? It’s like the Dream Team in NBA.
Byron Jones
Let’s throw it out there again. You have the Miami Heat before the start of this. What do you have
the brawn
the way way and the other guy, the third guy or the one Chris
Victor Arocho
boss? I don’t see. There you go. That’s my favorite.
Byron Jones
You have the super team. And what do you do? The only one down there. They did their thing won a couple championships. And then they all went their separate ways.
Victor Arocho
Yeah, well, Joe and Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade are still part of the heat family. But
Byron Jones
the team was a hired gun guy. Yeah, the guy the guy was cool. Yeah.
Victor Arocho
Yeah. But you know Riley smarty puts it no different than Boston Boston had the big three they started with the big three right? Yeah, you have people think about you they want a championship with Doc Rivers you had Ray Allen you had a Paul Pierce and you had Kevin Garnett. I mean
Byron Jones
how many championships
Victor Arocho
they 1111 and done okay, Ray Allen 1211 with us and one with that so I’m pretty happy with that. Brian and what hurt us I mean you played all sports and as well as I did, but you saw last night that you know star players are going to be stars. What I think hurt the heat is and i say i’m not i’m in it until I till I lose right? I made it to win it. But they got hurt by the roleplayers for the Lakers right the day kill this you know LeBron is gonna get his right ad is going to get his What if those that supporting cast doesn’t come through? You know I think for me the the he has has a deeper a deeper players that can perform, but they didn’t perform last night.
Byron Jones
The Lakers have, they have one of the greatest players of all time, LeBron James, and ad who’s who’s slowly creeping up in the conversation as far as one of the better players. Well, the NBA,
Victor Arocho
any super young, a super drunk those Laker teams always do this to me because even when they were playing whoever they were playing you know you knew that magic was gonna get his these other ones but then you got Robert Murray hitting a game when he shot you know, he’s got seven rings I sports guys they’re talking about, but he’s got seven championship rings. Right? So the one thing about the heat that I’ve seen is that they play a lot of team basketball so they’re going to have to figure something out. But bottom line is I still believe that if those role players continue playing the way they are, he’s going to have a really really tough time but our role players have to step up and play because we don’t have that super superstar and let’s hope by amount of bio is okay, well, but I think Spoelstra will come up with something as much as people coming out with this sweep. There’s not gonna be a sweet
No way.
Byron Jones
The Lakers have six
Victor Arocho
legs. Since it I say the heat in seven
I’ll go in it. I have
Byron Jones
to throw another guy. God back in the old days you know people forgot that has a whole bunch of rings. It’ll Russell 11.
Victor Arocho
I forget about a bill is ahead of his time to you know, they were they were ahead of his time and like we’ll did all those they were ahead of the time. But yeah, he’s got a lot of rings. There’s there’s no different game different game you played center. Right? Yeah, played center and you’re six foot five. You’re not even big enough for a guard right now.
Byron Jones
I’d be a small guard, like probably like a point guard or whatever. I know back in the day hurt. Damn boy. We were talking about this earlier. The guy’s name was Walter dinky Proctor. He went he ended up at North Carolina State. And he played the bronze. He was the first big guard I ever saw he was six foot eight in high school. Wow. Plan. point guard or point forward anyway. And he was a beast. He dumped on me. Yes, he did. And I realized that you know what? Maybe I should stick with the football. I’ll do
Victor Arocho
a lot better playing football. Yeah, but the football help as a d d tackle with footwork speed. You know, basketball gives you a lot of agility. And that’s amazing that someone at their age at that time was playing guard. Because, you know, I think that coaches were hurting some players. In the past, and I had to learn that myself to where you know you got a big kid and push them at center, right? And one thing I learned in coaching AAU, and you triple say basketball here in Florida, was I had to change the game because we didn’t have any really big good kids. So I learned the system from a magazine and we play basketball from outside in how basketballs played today. I normally you would come in first, right? Work the inside and then go outside right now it’s all outside, right? So like,
Byron Jones
back in the day, what was it pound the ball is on the ball inside. It’s a big guy
Victor Arocho
get his belt. Now you got like, Chris boss was set as a Chris Bosh is on seven feet, he was taking like 73 pointers. But back to the heat, I think Spoelstra will put something together enough. And remember that that Lakers were up, they be they beat Denver Nuggets bad in the first game. That right, so I think the he has more depth than the Denver Nuggets. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the nuggets, organization or how they played, but they got blown out in the very first game. So I don’t think it’s going to be much of an issue for Miami to you know, take the next game they need to Jimmy Butler has to stand up. So
Byron Jones
that’s what he did pay the big bucks for
Victor Arocho
exactly. What do you. So what do you think about them playing in the bubble? What are your thoughts on on how they handled that? And and what are your thoughts about the play? Have you? Have you seen some of the NBA Finals? Yes. Well, yeah.
Byron Jones
It’s just, it’s just weird to see it, you know, the way the game has to be played now, because of you know, what’s going on in the world with the COVID-19 and everything?
It’s just,
no, no, you figure I know, when I played as a player, you know, you want the energy field, as far as you know, with the crowd and all this other stuff, and you just get revved up. And I guess you know, when these guys are paid that kind of money to pay, I guess you have to self motivate when you have this kind of situation going on in the world.
Victor Arocho
Right? Well, let me ask you a question. This is I’m going to ask you a question. And then I’m going to tell you my my theory on what I saw in a bubble. So you know, when we play basketball growing up, I know we have some timeframe difference between us but I grew up in a small town. You either had a basketball court that was right by where you lived, right? Or you had a basketball court where we all went to play against each other but it was like two or three weather is warm Park. What was the one down on the waterfront? Remember that one? Like way of staying midway macwilliam Stadium? And then is that the one that was right on the water? Yes.
Byron Jones
toski Parkway was all the way Yeah, now.
That was that was a good neighborhood.
Yeah, so that was the parkway, mcaleenan State Route Route. Rudy park with all the big time play. You have to be big time to go to the park.
Victor Arocho
really far. Big time. Big time to play there. And then I walk Warren Park. Warren Park, we had the tournament and more guess
Byron Jones
what Mr. Yeah, what Coach resort?
Victor Arocho
Yes. Yeah. So what I wanted to bring up is that you know, if either you were playing basketball in like I live right across from Washington Street Park, right. So I played at the Washington Street basketball set where there was no full court because it was too big at that time. And then I would play wherever we play at Rooney Park as the for the one is Tao ski Park was one of my favorites, right? But even though you’re playing against different competition, but if you play there enough, you can play you have a better chance of playing better than someone’s playing on that court for the very first time. Right. Fair. Is that fair? Yes. So I get Washington parks, across the street, I play all the time, I can do backward shots. Like, you know, even if I played against big guys, that was I own that court. Right. Um, so now I’m going to relate it to the bubble. One thing I like I think that the bubble brought out was one it gave an opportunity to to these young stars to rise, because they you know, who is the I think they rose. Jamal Murray, a lot of these kids rose that he players dancik from the Mavericks every there were so many people you could mention that I remember growing up, you would mention, you know, five or six 710 people, not as many as athletes you have today. And then to it also I thought it helped help some of the younger players as the stars or stars but the younger players because they’re playing on the same basketball courts for you know that entire period of the tournament. So don’t you think that that would add into be able to improve your shot making ability
Byron Jones
Because you think
like, I know, like, where I grew up on the side by patent centers, Perth Amboy, you’ve got a patent center, you knew that, you know, when you go in for layout that you had to cut it short because the dirt was right there, or a certain or certain size, you know, where you get hit two, three, you know, back wall 2.0 back in the day, because you know, the size of court, it was not really the regulation size, and you knew that. But you know, you took that jumper there or either my favorite place was Delaney homes, you knew not to go full speed because you have from where the goal was to the wall was probably about two feet. So you pretty much knew, you know, I could take I could shoot here. You knew the other side on Delaney Holmes, the court, the rain was 10 feet tall. You knew it was that one was 10 foot,
this one was nine and a half, at like
nine and a half. So you knew you could dunk on this one, but you will kill yourself on the other one.
Victor Arocho
So I busted my knee? Oh, yeah,
Byron Jones
yeah, it was bad. You know, you just do that, or it was real slick. On the way home, that was one of the things I remember that, you know, you couldn’t go in there. And you know what your sneakers were, because you knew if you did, you’re gonna slide into either the stage or you’re gonna run into the wall, one of the two was going to happen. So you end up with all these different, you know, courts in Perth Amboy, that you had to adjust your game, but all it is,
Victor Arocho
right. But the people who played most on a particular court seemed to outplay what they would normally play if they went to a different court. Right, right. So it seems like since they were playing, they’re playing there, I could see the the young ones taking so many shots, but they’re getting used to it right, and then they don’t have the same environment. I really liked it. You know, I wish they would do like a tournament outside of the NBA for this. Because I kind of enjoyed trying to see everyone at one time, I’m a little tired, because the games were back to back when it was awesome. We’re also at a great time and in sports. You know, it’s difficult with the COVID, and so forth. But think about it, every major sport is on right now. Right? You get the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cups, the baseball playoffs, and you got football. I mean, you can’t ask for anything better than that.
Unknown Speaker
A lot of different TVs,
Victor Arocho
a lot of different TVs a lot on set wise. So but again, with I’m really enjoying you know how the NBA put together the bubble in the team. And I’m really happy to see a lot of stars coming out of this tournament. Now I’d like to go on to let’s go to our next topic. College Football today. Right. So, you know, you were a college athlete? And what do you think about? And I get to what do you think about how it’s being played today where there’s not going to be as many fans that environment, right, you can still be in your home field, but you playing, you know, playing ttls? How do you think it’s gonna affect some of the particularly defensive players, right, because we get pumped up.
Byron Jones
It has got to be kind of difficult to figure out because I think like a lot of the schools are letting you know, I guess the students, they’ll come to the games, and they’re supposed to sit a certain, you know, six feet away or apart. But then my thing is, I didn’t bring this up with you before. What about the alumni that are spending all this money? You know, donate all this money to these big to the Alabama to Georgia is the Clemson, South Carolina and all these big schools? Are they letting those alumni in as well?
Victor Arocho
Yeah, I don’t know. But I guess I’m looking at more from a player perspective, right? Think about it, you have, you know, juniors or seniors that have opportunities for the pros. Right? Then you have you have that for the pros, and you have some younger, younger players that are coming to the school. Right, think about it, they got drafted, particularly to play at those big time schools. And you want that, you know, you got to tell me you played in front of those, right? Isn’t that doesn’t that crap get you going? It wasn’t like a massive impact for football players were you just
Byron Jones
does you know, in fact, you know, with the city of Tulsa, you know, we’d have stadiums like 35,000 or 40,000. Yeah, I got a chance to play it. Oh, you it was 80,000 there, and we have crowd that size. Now you get I don’t even I don’t care. Even if you were to visit it, you get all wrapped up and all jacked up, you know, getting, you know, in front of these crowds you want to do as well as you can. But yeah, just with this whole COVID thing. I don’t think I would have played I don’t think I would have you know, opted out, you know, for this year. Like a couple of my friends kids, they did that where they get to save a year. Or if I knew that I was like a top 10 pick in the Draft. You know, I probably opt out to play now to prepare for the NFL. Because you figure if your defense alignment and offers on the year, your two feet from this guy, so I don’t know. If whatever he’s breathing on me. No matter What kind of whatever kind of shield they can come up with, you’re still gonna have somebody that’s gonna be breathing in your face all the time, you’re gonna be rolled on top of what’s going on where people don’t know exactly how this is transmitted. Me personally, I would offer that I would not play this year.
Victor Arocho
Right. Interesting. But, and I and I can respect that I’m trying to stay focus on on this particular place is how, let’s say you do play right? how it affects you. Without having without having that extra, that that extra, that’s our time of production without having that extra adrenaline, right? Because, you know, as defensive players, you want to be jacked up as offensive players you want to be jacked up to, but there’s a lot more play remembering, right? So, so outside of fact that due to the health risk, how is it going to impact the players without having that extra, you know, the 12th man on on the field. for college.
Byron Jones
If you want to get to the next level, you should be able to you should have to self motivate yourself, you should be able to jack yourself, you know, if you got to bang your head, I’ve seen guys go bang their head on the wall, banging their head on the floor, slap each other to face all kinds of crazy stuff. I saw people do you know what I was playing, but you should be able to motivate yourself? Well, hey, you know, I want to get to the next level. So I know that every single play every single down every game that I plan, I have to do my best because you know what I want to get to the next level. So I should be able to motivate myself where I want to, I want to get to where I want to get to I want to be at the NFL level.
Victor Arocho
Yeah. See, that’s what I wanted to ask you. Because that makes that makes sense. Right? The guy who really really wants it, nothing’s gonna stop them from from that self motivation to get to the next level, right? Let’s say so let’s say you’re not in the top 10. But you have a shot, right? You mean, you’re gonna you’re gonna play self motivation. Now, that’s a good lesson for everybody to learn, right? You don’t need any thing outside. This is the bonus to motivate What if you want something, make sure that you have that self motivation inside of us what I’m getting from you.
Byron Jones
Like the kid, Trevor Lawrence from Clemson, he has no reason he didn’t, that he wouldn’t have to play a snap, he still got to be the first player pick out there. He’s out there because of his, you know, for his teammates. And he’s out there, you know, because he’s, so drive in him, though, he wants to be the best. And he wants to get to the next level. So he’s gonna go out there. And he’s gonna put, you know, put it all on the line, because he wants to be with his friends and his teammates. And he wants to get to the next level as well.
Unknown Speaker
Also, I think he’s,
Victor Arocho
he’s a little bothered, because he wants that championship, because he wanted to win it. And I was just like, awesome. So he wants that championship pack. So I think that’s another motivation for him. Um, but you know, I always say kid the best but I had, I had some let’s see where we could take this to speak against Trevor Lawrence. And you brought him up, so I’m going to move to that piece. Second, so speaking, sir Lawrence, I had some people I think you were you were on that string and Facebook where they were saying let’s tank and go out to try for
Unknown Speaker
people.
Unknown Speaker
Right. What do you think about that comment?
Byron Jones
That’s, that’s a hot one. Yeah, last year, when the Giants picked up Danny dimes, Daniel Jones, when I drafted him, I was one of the biggest haters. But then I turned about you, I started looking at film from Duke. And Yo, just the way he carried yourself toward that. But then when he started to fumbling, and interceptions, and all the other craziness, it was like, Yeah, well, maybe he’s really not the guy. You know, maybe he’s not the guy. So yes, I jumped on the tour, you know, the tank for Trevor bandwagon, because he just has the look of a real franchise.
Unknown Speaker
You’d have posted it. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
That’s even better. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
I’m impressed that you actually confessed it as I did it. I was like, What is wrong with the zoo? You know?
Unknown Speaker
You guys are killing me.
Unknown Speaker
I had to do it.
Victor Arocho
I always I always mess with the South Florida fans. And I feel like you know, snow. Too bad. They’re not as sports knowledgeable as they think they are. Right? They just don’t they don’t get into the sports. I believe that’s why most of the sports radio hosts are from New York. But but but you had the other guys that dropped out what happened to you guys I look at it this way. I said it last year, right? I’m a big Eli Manning fan. I’m a Danny dimes fan only now because these are quarterback I’m gonna go with what am I going to wish him bad, right? But the Mannings have genes I mean that’s a good genealogy no or, or tree of where you had Archie banning you had to bannings and the other brother was really good. I thought they brought him in to soon let them learn from Eli and then if proof was in the pudding, there’s no Eli would have not done any worse for the Giants than Daniel Jones did period. Right and it doesn’t help that shake shake on Barkley check on Berkeley is out but but he wouldn’t have done any worse any would have had that time to start you know, learning the game from from a person who learned the game from another great quarterback all his life and had a brother that’s bigger than him. That he learned the game from.
Byron Jones
Get ready to bash the Manning legacy right now. bashatt Okay. Can Archie Archie man I’m gonna date myself when Archie Manning great quarterback in college that the NFL never won a thing. What did he spend most of his time doing? running for his life with the New Orleans Saints he ran for is like that’s why you know he’s scrambling with like he ran like he was on fire every week because he knew it all but the line was blocked for him. Okay, we get the pain would paint have a great office line? You’re here great receivers. So he had you know he had to structure pain. Then you get the ELI when he won those two championships. What did you have here? Great. No Pettigrew. SNI. O’Hara and I forgot the other guy’s name. And he had a great offensive line both times when they wonder Am I wrong? If I’m wrong, just say I’m wrong. But they had a great opposite lot and had a great running game. And he had the standout receivers What do you know when play ashing go D to these guys. That’s what they had. Now, I wouldn’t have drafted say Quan Barkley with the number two pick that was you
Unknown Speaker
know, good.
Byron Jones
Because you know, he’s a generational running back. What do they do an NFL now? They run run by committee. So now you’re gonna pay them a billion dollars you know, when it comes back? And hopefully, you know, knock on wood the guy comes back because he’s great back but I wouldn’t have drafted him that back part out of pick the quarterback first. And then you start work with the line.
Unknown Speaker
Wow, I went that route. Yeah. Oh my god. We got a
Unknown Speaker
guy. Interesting.
Victor Arocho
For me, you know, the Giants always go big. I think their biggest weakness with Eli was their defense. I don’t care who it is. We’ve always wanted with great defenses. And we’ve always wanted quarterbacks that did their jobs. Phil Simms was an MVP, a Super Bowl quarterback. But when phil simms play, there was a lot of other quarterbacks that were better than Yeah, right and hostettler one The following year, so Okay, great defenses. Right. So they had those credit quarterbacks Eli, same thing. They had those type of quarterbacks that look at john paul Pierre for Tampa, he’s kicking butt, Julius peppers. I mean, they had some great they had they were so deep in the quarterback position. They were able to train quarterbacks for high prices. So it was always about defense and remember it’s Magnolia left now he’s with Kansas City, right? Rice my goal is my guy they want him to go but then he wanted to be a head coach. I understand but he was terrible as a coach. Right? But for me it starts with deep when I see giant footballs I’m playing giant football is one It starts with the defense. Right? And then number one and number two obviously the big line you have to have the line you have the running back, but also I haven’t seen them utilize the tide and like all the Super Bowl champion giants used think about how many great Titans viral more effective you understand and we don’t seem to use that anymore. We don’t have a we were successful. And we’re about to go to the next session. We were successful with the victor cruises that that you know the Julian Edelman type of guy. I don’t you don’t have someone like that Now, going away through the whole guess.
Unknown Speaker
You have Evan Razzi Ingram, dragon fly, fold down whatever happens to him so great talent, but
Victor Arocho
Yeah I still think that you know dangerous shoes took some time but it is what it is the only thing we got going for us the NFC East stinks
Unknown Speaker
this past thing
Unknown Speaker
is way past that
Victor Arocho
so really I think we got a shot right me what we want with one on a nine and five teams I think we’ll do pretty good there all right.
Byron Jones
I’m gonna blow up the Giants fan real quick. We’re gonna go oh and 16
Unknown Speaker
oh my god
Unknown Speaker
well my win again this year. He’s killing me
Byron Jones
with that oh and 16
Unknown Speaker
oh my god are the other the other spots on the sports cast that net are gonna give me a lot of stuff. I got a fellow giant fan is roasted to me.
Victor Arocho
Is no way they’re gonna go zero ever ever. Oh, they’re gonna go zero. Yeah, I’ll put money on there right now will not go zero. Okay, because just as the NFC East we beat each other up. There’s we know each other we know enough to beat each other. Whether we win to win eight, I don’t know. But we’re not gonna go
Unknown Speaker
00
Byron Jones
I said it right now.
Victor Arocho
I’ll leave refers. Okay, October 1. So we got we got some time in January February if it goes that long to see what happens but but this but we don’t even have that long because they’re gonna win. I believe they wouldn’t again, before January. I’m predicting that There you go. Alright, so let’s go into the next piece. I want to talk about what do you think about the Patriots and the Chiefs game coming up?
Byron Jones
That’s a good game. Again, yeah, Cam is back. The running him a little bit too much. He might get hurt. You know, even though he is a six, six, about 250 pound quarterback. He’s six. Eight is huge. They’re running him a little bit too much now. lighten it up. And they should be that but the Chiefs have Patty mahomes.
Victor Arocho
Listen to me. I his mom wants him to be called Patrick. So you got to respect the moms?
Byron Jones
Well, you want to get out of the mother’s care. So you gotta call him Patty. Now that make her magic. Oh, excuse me. Patrick mahomes.
Victor Arocho
Yes, she corrected the big time guys. called in. Do not call them Pat. Call them Patrick.
Byron Jones
Okay. Patrick. Patrick mahomes is the best quarterback in football.
Victor Arocho
Yeah, I mean, he’s, he’s, he’s amazing. I mean, I was looking forward to that game against Baltimore. And it was just like a steamroller. Yeah, that was crazy. It was an awesome game. But this one’s gonna be interesting. Because you got you got two great coaches. I was happy for Andy Reid winning you know, even though he was affiliate ologists. But he was a great guy. Good. And you have a bill double check. This probably got a tom brady chip on his shoulder if he has one or not. I don’t know. But I think this game is gonna be relatively good. But somebody you think is gonna win this game and we think is gonna perform better. Patrick mahomes or camp? Chris
Unknown Speaker
3428 3428 A
Victor Arocho
you have a 3420 out there. That is a interesting. That’s a possibility. We’ll see. You know bout 16 is still doing pretty well and a listen. I like Brady, so I’m rooting for Brady to go right. But uh, I respect the organization for the Patriots. And and it’s tough because I like Cam Newton. I think that he I think he was good enough to have been picked up you know, patriots. He is the Pacers got lucky. And the show you know, again the show like you said your self motivation that that that something has to drive you for him to take a one year agreement, you know, for you know, nothing close to what these guys are being paid. And, and pretty much say okay, so. I’m gonna play you’re gonna play hard. I’m gonna play you’re gonna pay me right. So so you know, I’m kind of rooting for cam right? patriots. I like the organization and I can’t say I’m rooting for them. Right. I like to see a change. But I think that game is gonna be great. Patrick mahomes I mean, what do you think? I mean, before the NFL, did you know much about him, like he played at Texas Tech. I think
Byron Jones
he played the Texas Tech. His dad was a pitcher. I think with the somebody with a bunch of teams. Now he was a great player. You know, tech, you know, we played down in the Dust Bowl. That state stadium they had a Texas Tech was a mess. Every time you would tackle somebody when the dust from the from the red dirt out there, Lubbock, Texas will hit you on face and for him to be able to play out at that stadium.
Unknown Speaker
My kudos go to him.
Victor Arocho
Oh really? So the stadium had like a baseball field on it too.
Byron Jones
It was just that it was so much stuff from you know, because luck is in the middle of nowhere. It’s like somebody took the city in your booth and just dropped it in the middle of nowhere. And it is red clay dirt. And when I guess what, when the wind blows or whatever it blows into the stadium and it can get on artificial turf and then when you attack somebody it’s like it’s like a
Victor Arocho
cloud of dust when you tackle somebody, ah, me the scene you breathe and all that in. That’s got to be tough. Texas Tech used to be was it at UTEP they were they were the story of glory road, right? Yep. Right. Todd Haskins. He then asked him to they were first all African American team to start and to win the national championship.
Byron Jones
One of our code the basketball coach from Tulsa played there to Nolan Richardson.
Oh, really? He played there. And then he left holes in the dark I saw he’s another great man. He’s really good. God. You know, a lot of people forgot about him when NCAA championships total African American coach. Yeah.
Victor Arocho
So yeah, I love that movie. And everyone I think they forget that you tip is is Texas Tech right now.
Unknown Speaker
University of Texas El Paso.
Victor Arocho
Oh, yeah. No, you tech. Right. What is it? Texas, Texas Tech was the tip right at Texas Tech was interesting. I think that, you know, one of my favorite plays, I think it was all over the place and a Super Bowl. He’s doing things that either he’s just watching and taking shots that I could do these or he’s just some instinct or spidey sense. But, you know, the the play I saw last year when it was running, and he was like, he went and he was like, he’s gonna run out of bounds and he faked it. He kept going and scored. It’s amazing. You know, it is everyone’s scared of him. And at the same time, they figure he’s gonna run out of bounds and he just ran through more.
Byron Jones
He’s a lot bigger. You think he is he’s about he’s at least probably about 240. He’s at least sort of 44 to 32 foot. He’s got a little quarterback. He’s a big kid. Really? I think he’s got I think he’s, he’s got a little size store.
Victor Arocho
I didn’t know that. He’s pretty fast for a guy that much size. Yeah. And then they were they were showing how in college, they were practicing the no look pass. And I just saw how he faked one guy. He just does think he seems like a basketball player. That is no, he’s a professional quarterback. That’s got basketball boos that is using Basketball Moves while he’s playing quarterback. That makes sense. And he can be the ultimate point guard as a quarterback. So imagine he’s just faking guys out. I mean, he’s just, he’s awesome to watch. It’s awesome to watch
Byron Jones
getting ready to date myself again. Randall Cunningham was the same way.
Victor Arocho
Same Yeah. Randall Cunningham was phenomenal athlete. I don’t think he’s even close to Patrick mahomes though, because I think that Michael Vick was better than I think Mike Vick was better than Randall Cunningham. And, and I just still didn’t didn’t they’re not at that Patrick mahomes level.
Byron Jones
They don’t have the towel. They didn’t have the talent that around him that Patrick mahomes has, you know, Randall Cunningham a bunch of bum awful receivers. Michael Vick, you know, he had a couple.
Victor Arocho
You know, he played that Philly duty. He played one year and the next year got 100 million dollars. Did something right? So it’s hard to say about how much you have around you know, it, at least for me in football, because then you could argue I hate the argument. Well, your deck quarterback was on that team. he’d win that many Super Bowls to you don’t know that. You don’t you don’t know. Look at Carson Wentz. Right. As much as you know, they want to keep them as much as a great that he is. You know Nick foles kept winning every time he came off the bench and Nick foles starts and he didn’t do well. Now Nick foles is going to start for the Chicago Bears. And he’s doing he’s doing better coming off the beds than he is as a starter.
Byron Jones
Maybe that’s what he needs to be like a relief pitcher. Now the other guy warm it up. And then they throw him in the second quarter, third quarter, whatever.
Victor Arocho
And you know, maybe he’s being able to see more things from the sidelines to be able to handle it react when he goes in, right because it’s easy to play Monday morning quarterback, what if you could actually if it’s Sunday, you’re playing that quarterback? And they say now you got to go in. You bet to do what you think you could have done. Right? Because we’re always on Monday gonna say Oh, they could did this. When the guy gets replaced, he has to come in and finish it up. Let’s see what we got here. All right. So that game I’m looking forward to I’m sure you are ready. Well, I’m 3428 and we’re looking for your piece. What do you think about Tyler Murray? That’s something I want I put that down specifically to ask you because of his size. And you as a defensive tackle against this guy wanted to see what your thoughts are.
Byron Jones
Well, the same thing is I played defense event as well. And there’s no way I would want to spend my Sunday afternoon chasing this guy all over the field. Probably five foot seven at the most I don’t think he’s probably probably listening five days, probably five, seven, and he’s fast. I got a rocket, bazooka foreigner and you will be spending three hours chasing him all over the place. And I probably be gassed and daughter probably pulled a hamstring or a fat muscle or something. And I will be done after the second quarter after chasing this guy over fear. I just couldn’t do it.
Victor Arocho
Well, you know what’s funny, though, you say that but when Flutie was coming into the NFL or what they were saying before he I think he went to Canada first. But Lauren Stella was like, that little little man know that it’s a seven, seven step drop in the NFL.
Unknown Speaker
Or vice versa. He goes, I’m gonna be all over that guy. Right? So you know, a different mindset of Lawrence Taylor, right? He’s on Yami to get them. Right.
Victor Arocho
But and Flutie did well, I mean, you know, he he did what he I don’t think he’s at the level of Tyler Murray. At least we don’t know yet. But, you know, you got to give a you got to give Flutie a lot of credit. You know, for the achievements. He’s not
Byron Jones
gonna throw a name at you. You’re gonna know who this is. And Davis was absolutely before that truly. Are knows. Glenn Davis. Yes. Yes. Really? Yes. I saw. Like, back in the day. I saw a video of him playing when he played in high school. He was the same way.
Victor Arocho
He really he plays for University. He played for University of Delaware.
Byron Jones
Yeah, he played a Madison Township High School, but I saw the videos of him playing in high school. He beat all those big schools down there in Monmouth County. He wasn’t that good. How many years you play for Mr. Davis? Yeah. Just my senior year I was it. But he was there my whole wall. But he wasn’t where he was the head coach my senior year.
Victor Arocho
Oh, he’s, yeah. So he’s the head coach, your senior that I missed out because I didn’t play until my junior year and I only had him for a year. And he and he would Oh, and he would make sure that I would get my touches with the ball.
Byron Jones
The perfect was after I think Davis
Victor Arocho
Yeah, he was the one that would give a he made sure I got my touches. He liked my he knew he knew I could throw the ball up on catch it. But he was pretty cool. Coach. That’s interesting. But Tyler Murray I like what he’s having a look at Andre Hopkins. Okay, Texas uses isn’t doing
Byron Jones
the happy to have the two receivers at Hopkins is doing pretty good. It’s not that he’s not doing that bad at all him in the journal.
Unknown Speaker
And no. And that’s one of my favorite guys. Right there
Byron Jones
is always the guy.
Unknown Speaker
I mean, he called out years though.
Victor Arocho
I wanted I didn’t want him to get one just for him. You know, he’s a guy. He’s only played for car,
Byron Jones
right? Like 17 years or whatever, some crazy amount, whatever.
Victor Arocho
He’s still good. I mean, but just each one of those guys that you really root for you even though it’s not your team, but you root for that they do good. So I really, really like to see them do well ago go a little farther for for him. And then let’s see where we’re coming up. We’re coming up a little bit on the time. So I want to leave some time to talk about a few other things. Next one I want to talk about your thoughts on mike tyson boxing in
Unknown Speaker
for Thanksgiving.
Byron Jones
I don’t know what was it Voyager Jones’s mark is mine. The want to get the ring but Mike Tyson. Its
Victor Arocho
money and why do you say that though? Roy Jones can play
Byron Jones
mike tyson now this is a little bit out of his element mike tyson Mike Tyson, I guess he feels this is gonna be like redemption for whatever else toward the end of his career. And you know, all the bad things that people say about him, you know, but now now look at the guy. You know, he’s making money, you know, doing whatever he’s doing. You know, you don’t hear any crazy stories about him and this is gonna be the time to redeem himself when he pieces tar out of real jobs.
Victor Arocho
I don’t know man. He right Jones was great at it. First of all, look, Mike Tyson was one of my favorite boxers to watch. But Rory Ray Jones is it’s Rory Jones. No, Rory Jones a was a great fighter and they’re at the same ways that like they’re both you know, 50 something years old. So you’re just talking about 250 year old boxers going after each other And remember ory Jones is more of a boxer to Tyson So, but, you know more of a boxer, but have you seen Tyson Tyson’s ripped?
Byron Jones
Yes, it is redemption time. He’s gonna cut the ring off. He’s gonna cut the ring off. He’s gonna give it a quarter and he’s gonna beat him down.
Victor Arocho
Yeah, I don’t know, think there’s gonna be a knockout knockout. Okay, I don’t think there’s a knockout knockout, two rounds. Or either he might
Byron Jones
quit. He might say, You know what? I know.
Unknown Speaker
He hit me in my kidney.
Byron Jones
And I’m done. I’m 60 plus years old. You’re now young. I don’t want to be peeing on myself for the rest of my life. So I quit.
Victor Arocho
I don’t know. I think we’re just given a good, good fight. In my opinion. I like to see those guys come back. It’s pretty funny. You know, they’re just showing George Foreman when the heavyweight a 50 didn’t any one was in a 15 rounds
Unknown Speaker
12 to 12
Victor Arocho
whether it’s 1215. And he never said that. He knows he stood the whole time.
Unknown Speaker
Because he knows we sat down he won’t be able to get back. And
Victor Arocho
it’s still impressive. Right? But it’s true. Yeah. You know, you ever played ball, you sit down for like, I don’t want to get better. But I’m excited. It’s gonna be in Thanksgiving. I’m looking forward to that fight. I miss boxing. I’m not a big UFC or any of that kind of stuff, but it makes I think they’re gonna put on a good show. And you and I think that you know, an athlete’s an athlete, they’re training like their training. They’re not going to full 12 rounds. I think they’re only boxing like five or something like that. I don’t think it’s a full 12 rounds. I think we’ll get a good
Unknown Speaker
I think it’d be exciting. They may start building like, you know, the senior tour for golf. Why
Byron Jones
bother? I wouldn’t get it. The way I get the rate. But I’m 50 something years. I’ll get out of here. No
Unknown Speaker
way.
Unknown Speaker
Give me a couple billion I’ll get. I’ll think about it. Exactly.
Victor Arocho
All right. Well, that’s it Thanksgiving. So we’re, you know, I’m looking forward to seeing some of that needs some good food Thanksgiving. And when our last topic I want to kind of bring up is how I look at it. I know you mentioned a little bit before me being a big Yankee fan and the playoffs are going on. Yankees moved on. Thank God and Garrett Coles is playing lights out is you know, everyone would always give me a lot of heat regarding that the Yankees by the teams, they pay the most money. And I’m relating it to the NBA because it’s like, you know, the Yankees are going after the best players as an organization. And in the NBA, the NBA players are going after the best players not on their team. So you got to pay them too. So for me, you got to bring that up in the same breath as you bring it bring the egg and the T paying a lot of money as well. But Yankees are there to win just like LeBron is
Unknown Speaker
if it didn’t,
Byron Jones
back in the day was a 10th of what it is to to Tampa Bay was a mark the
Marlin one of them, then they do the same thing as far as
Unknown Speaker
they beat the Yankees.
Byron Jones
But they’re blocked. But when they’re payroll, they can’t hide the next you know, they had a fire sale the next year and got rid of half of those guys. Yeah.
Victor Arocho
That’s why the Marlins lands don’t that’s why tomorrow, he did it the second time. They did it twice. They build a team and they get rid of it, you know, and they beat my Yankees unfortunately. But, um, but that’s why it’s hard to be those type Marlin fans because I don’t know about you, but I always feel like I want to see the champion defend their champions. You know, you have some guys leave this to that, but they just dismantled that team. It wasn’t
Byron Jones
because the owner didn’t want to pay all that money.
Unknown Speaker
So like,
Victor Arocho
if they had more, they have more games sold out. You know, Miami fans are fickle. They’re not very loyal fans but when just like sports in areas such as Miami, particularly Miami, when the teams when they come out, right so if you’re making money, you know, when the Yankees and the Mets were playing their best and they went to the World Series, both stadiums were sold out. They would play a doubleheader, one in Yankee Stadium, one in Shea Stadium at the time, and both games are sold out. So it shows you if you put a put good product on the field people are going to come right but I’m just trying to at least I’m giving the analogy of Yeah, Yankees buying players getting the best players no different than what the NBA players are. LeBron gets his pick of we want that. Right? They’re already talking who’s gonna come here? kawhi Leonard did the same thing. You know, I don’t think we’ll call this they did by getting KD but they were good. You know that he recruited that tape, I still give him I don’t think LeBron would have won if Draymond Green would have been smarter so I need to get ejected. But again, I just want to bring up the point that look the Yankees is isn’t the only sports organization that prides itself on winning by getting the best players.
Byron Jones
People are going to pay you know, the teams are going to pay him. No, God bless you go right ahead. You got all your the Yankees. Philadelphia Phillies, they’re like that in New York matches a bunch of teams that do. And you know, in baseball, football, basketball, wherever, and the owners willing to open up his pocketbook to pay these guys to come there. Guess what? Have a come there. Hey, hold on, buddy. Come on. They got plenty of money here. Come on. That’s what these guys have done.
Victor Arocho
Yet it has got a better cap though. Right? They’re more they’re more protected than the NFL and then the NBA and Major League Baseball. Those guys get guaranteed contracts.
Byron Jones
Right? NFL you’d never see guaranteed contracts
Victor Arocho
not not a forget about the guarantee when people don’t even understand is that no matter what the final agreement or contract is? Most The reason the players want to get most of it up front because they may not get that entire contract. Right. So you know, you could have a 500 million contract but you may only have 50 million have a guarantee.
Unknown Speaker
Like Patrick mahomes
Victor Arocho
right. So my point I think you will earn it out Don’t get me wrong, but you know, there’s they’re playing the risks right?
Unknown Speaker
My 50 billion isn’t too bad anyways,
Unknown Speaker
I take it
Unknown Speaker
exactly.
Victor Arocho
Right. So you know, we’re gonna be wrap it up a little bit. And I just wanted to see if check in here. See what you got. What do you watch this weekend?
