Unknown Speaker
Hey, let’s play with DSL. Eight.

Justin Riley
Yes, sir. Roll Tide. How is that? How’s the weekend Marvin?

Marvin Constant
Yeah, it wasn’t long enough. It seemed like he went by too fast. And I wasn’t happy with the things I seen this weekend. So

Justin Riley
and you know what that’s we were we are going to introduce our new segment. It’s called constant chaos brought to you by Milo’s to have one of the greatest food traditions since 1946. This segment allows Marvin to give us his unfiltered thoughts on issues surrounding the Crimson Tide. This week, we discuss the Ole Miss game. So Marvin, I’m gonna give you the floor. And I’m going to follow from there. So lead the way.

Marvin Constant
Point number one. This is what I’m gonna start it from here. It all makes sense. Have you ever seen Alabama’s defense give up 647 yards of total offense? Did you cover anybody? Did you even sack it? Did you even get off the bus is my question. Where was the defense? I’ve never seen so many missed tackles. Missed assignments, bad play calls. I mean, because it starts with at the top. You know, you can’t just blame the players. It starts at the top and it trickles down. And across the board. I have never seen a defense under Nick Saban look so bad. Lane Kiffin pretty much did what he wanted to do. Now granted, it’s Lane Kiffin offensive mastermind jeans, whatever you want to call. I knew he was going to give us problems, but not 647 yards of total offense problems. And when I went back and I looked at the game, they just physically dominated us. That’s what they did. They physically dominated our defense. They gave our defense all he could handle and then some because any other team they put up that as many points as it were 48 points, you’re gonna win that game. But luckily officers showed up and do what they do. Number one in the country offices efficiency. Number one in several offenses, categories across the board. Without that offense, we would have had our asses handed to us and been embarrassed on Saturday if it wasn’t for offers straight in battles. You know, it’s to the point to where I invite some friends over for the Georgia game. I told him it’s canceled don’t even come. Because, you know, some of them went to Georgia, and I don’t need that batchi in my house, because it happens two weeks in a row, it’s going to be a problem. And what I don’t understand is, why have we not made charter strong or difference according to yet? Like, what are we waiting for here? I mean, from bad play, calling to busted assignments. And I was actually speechless for a lot of, you know, I was sitting on the couch and honestly, I really felt like, you know, we had left them hanging around a little bit longer, that they were going to win again. It was really in doubt to me and when they call that onside kick, that first one Oh, have they got that? Oh, we would have been in trouble. Trouble Trouble truck truck, because we weren’t able to stop them. We got what one decent stop the second half. One, how do you get one stop in I have one every other position a score points.

Justin Riley
And that the actual start was mainly because of a botched snap by omission center. So it really put them in a position to score. But here’s the thing, I really don’t know where to start, because there’s just a myriad of things that went wrong. Yes, Len kibin called an amazing game. You knew that coming in. He had the game plan. He was going to expose weaknesses, but not to the point to where like you mentioned, they were just so many missed tackles. I mean, I can’t even count how many missed tackles. Players out of position. Like you said, busted assignments busted coverages. Out physical. I mean, that that was just so it was so surprised to me. And we had these behemoths up front like Christian bomb or

Unknown Speaker
what,

Justin Riley
yeah, what I mean, and also to know, and I know, as a defensive player, this makes you really mad. There was a lot of our defensive players that were standing around watching ball carriers and waiting for them to make a move first. Instead of doing what you always say, to and through, no attacking. It’s like they were afraid to do something.

Marvin Constant
You know, you know what really pissed me off though. Earlier in the day, I’m laughing I’m calling. I’m texting all of my friends that played LSU talking crap. I probably should have shut up. Yeah, because our defense looked worse in your defense. I was talking so much trash to all my LSU friends you know what this week I got nothing to say to no fight um, I’m gonna be on my couch, quiet at church mouth, praying to God. Please got that are different show up today. Please got let Pete Golding actually use his brain today. And actually understand the game of football and make the right calls in right situation. In 26, while we uncovered what a cover zero is 3026 we should be cover three cover for plated sticks. Let them throw underneath. tackler man, and we have to feel why we uncovered one and covers evil in third and fourth. That is stupidity.

Justin Riley
And what’s even more embarrassing is the fact it was third and what 2627 they hand the ball off to Jerry and Neely and he runs runs for 22 yards.

Marvin Constant
That’s because when you uncover one and covers evil everybody’s got their back target they’re chasing people. So if you’re running back draw a QB draw usually because everybody’s chasing people nobody sees it again. Why are we in man to man in third and forever every defensive coordinator on this planet knows when to say to defense in that situation but not us no no no no no not us. We’re big bad Alabama. We’re gonna guard your guys man to man like you’ve got a damn drawdown up come on man.

Justin Riley
Let me ask you this as a player how much of this is coaching and how much of this is player is about that even? Or the more of one than the other?

Marvin Constant
Well, I’m gonna blame it on both parties losing a lot see if it will me personally and on the field I’ve done it before five if I see something I don’t like what goes go call okay man like listen man, a man I knew what you call you thought was gonna work but I seen what I see. Me personally, I would have checked two or three or four hours on the field. Yeah, because as a middle linebacker, you know coaches some coaches give you their freedom and flexibility based upon what you see on offer. And I was one thing that I didn’t like, I’m changing. So at some point, you know, somebody has to step up and say, Man, this ain’t working, we got to do something different.

Justin Riley
Which I’m glad you brought that up. brings you to the point Dylan Moses. I mean, he, he just he didn’t look like Dylan Moses and be honest with you. I’m kind of worried about his draft stock now, after playing a horrendous game. Yes, he had 13 tackles, but man, he just lost out there. And you talk about getting people in the right position, get people in the right gaps, it

Marvin Constant
just they ran almost 100 plays hit me, you can go out there and get 13 damn tax Oh, no. It’s not hard. When you can’t stop a minute, keep letting it play out and play and play.

Justin Riley
Right? And then to the communication wasn’t there, you got people looking to the sideline, looking to each other, not knowing what in the hell to do. I’ve never seen this before. I saw it last year and kind of expected because we had a lot of young guys. But this year, those young guys are up another class, the veterans who are out there back, and you can’t expect that to disappear. Why is it not disappearing?

Marvin Constant
I don’t know. But you know, as a middle linebacker, you’re responsible. You’re the quarterback of the field, you know, like some, you just, you have to be the field General, you have to be the guy that make it all work. So that it starts with 32. You know, at some point 32 has to say, Hey, man, this is my team, my defense, my everything. Let me do what I got to do to get this up and running. Because I’m sure 32 does that. It’s gonna be a rough road.

Justin Riley
Yeah, absolutely. And that’s one thing that I’m going to be paying attention to going forward, you know, how are we going respond? You know, after getting gashed like that we’re going into probably the one of the most important games, if not the most important game of the season. How is the defense to respond after what we just saw on Saturday.

Marvin Constant
And better get ready. Because there’s gonna be a physical one judges defense is number one in the country, in defensive efficiency. So what that’s going to lead to is that all offenses and gun scores many points, that office is not going to be out there on the field as much, right? So when when officers get stops more, that means the defense has to play more, which means it’s going to be a longer game. So they better buckle up and get ready because it’s not always going to be physical, you better believe Kirby’s gonna come prepared. And yeah, Scott Cochran and his staff and several other guys that worked at Alabama. They know all the tricks, they know all the traps, they know everything. So all that’s not gonna work. You just gonna have to man up and play football Saturday. That’s the only way you can do it. If you’re not Manning up and playing football, stay ass in Tuscaloosa don’t even get on

Justin Riley
books. Yeah. And Georgia will give us a different look course, they’re not gonna be as dynamic as, say, an Ole Miss. They kind of still run an old school type of offense. But one thing that you can agree on is they are physical, and they are dominant when it comes to physicality. Now, they might not be tossing a ball around like we experienced last week, but they’re going to hit us in the mouth. So how are we going to respond to a team that’s going to be that physical?

Marvin Constant
Well, you know, they’re gonna be physical, and you know, likely they’re gonna come out, they’re gonna try to run the ball, the passing game is going to be mediocre at best middle of the road, you know, they got the local, the current thought of the cashier from Burger King and the center. So you know, you know, it’s not like he’s gonna go out here and just to beat us with his passing, but he’s going to manage the game. He’s not going to make mistakes. That’s the one thing he has done all season that I’ve watched, he doesn’t make many mistakes. So defensively, it’s gonna be a battle. I think it’s gonna be low scored in the first half. Second half, one of the two is gonna have to wear down and whichever one wears down. First, probably when it loses.

Justin Riley
Yeah, also, things can come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. And Joe didn’t make any mistakes. No, that’s not analysis. Even with the Burkean cashier quarterback, it feels like they’re very disciplined. They more they’re more mature than things we’ve seen in the past with Kirby smart, and they just they look more like a team is ready to take that next step question is, are they

Marvin Constant
now make no mistake about it, Tennessee had a chance to beat them last week. It is a turning point in that game was that idiotic, targeted call on the quarterback when I don’t know what play on Tennessee launches with this helmet into Georgia’s quarterback into the Burger King clerk. And they give them the first out and they go on to school right before the half. That was the turning point. And again, Tennessee had that game in hand at that point, you know, it only takes one stupid mistake to throw Rhythm and change the momentum of the game. And we’ve been guilty of them. We did the same thing last week, stupid targeting penalty late in the game gave Ole Miss the first down. I mean, we could have been in the same position Tennessee was in last week. So it’s a lack of discipline. It’s a lack of effort. It’s a lack of the defensive coordinator who as a true understanding of what it takes to be a defensive coordinator and the lack of player on field leadership. That’s what it comes down to.

Justin Riley
Now, you mentioned Scott Cochran earlier, this is a big game because you know, he returns to Tuscaloosa after years of being the standard in the strength coaching. This as far as college football is concerned. Now he departed to Georgia. And looks like he has them ready like he had us. You know, because, you know, we were supposed to have this new innovative strength coaching staff that came in from Indiana, this new way of doing things and I’m beginning to question that because I’m seeing that less physicality now. Have you noticed that or is that something I’m just kind of, you know, reading too much into

Marvin Constant
I mean, me personally what I hire strength coach from Indiana Hello. Hello. But you know, every I you know, I talk about this in my book, everybody gets caught up in the new fancy, flashy the bells and whistles. Listen, man, you don’t have to have all this crap to get to get ready to play. Easy on training, right? He’s gonna be ready. Or you can act like you’re training right? He’s gonna get his ass handed to him. I think right now we’re acting like we’re training right and getting our asses handed to us. Because that team was nothing like the Alabama’s we used to see. Nothing like

Justin Riley
I completely agree. As far as the offense goes, of course, you know, we were one of the best in the country. Matt Jones i think is third in the country and passing yardage is and efficiency. Are you bought into the possible Heisman? Hi there, Matt Jones is starting to accumulate.

Marvin Constant
asked me that question next Tuesday, after he faces the number one defense in defensive efficiency. And I’ll give you an answer to that. But I’m not going to ask you that based off what you did against Ole Miss. Missouri. Come on now.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah. Absolutely.

Marvin Constant
Yeah, can I can go run through a paper bag right now that didn’t, nothing. But you put a real wall up there. Yeah, see what happens?

Justin Riley
Well, this is definitely going to be the show me game for Matt Jones. And we’re serious housing conversation. They’ve been saying it.

Unknown Speaker
You know, you know what, you know, what pisses me off, though?

Justin Riley
Was that

Marvin Constant
after watching that performance last week, it’s like, How bad can we be defensively? And I have this whole plan in my head, right? Well, I was gonna have a small gathering for this game. I invited some of my friends who played at Georgia went to Georgia, along with a few of my Alabama people, you know, small gathering 10 to 15 people, Max. But I was going to have lamb chops. lamb chop shank with some lobster. It’s

Unknown Speaker
a very fancy menu.

Unknown Speaker
I don’t even know if I want to go that route. Because I don’t believe all this crap.

Unknown Speaker
I’m gonna be pissed,

Justin Riley
man. You hate mama sticker, Papa John’s?

Unknown Speaker
And I’m thinking more like the genre at this point. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker
I’m telling you.

Marvin Constant
Because if I go spend four $500 on this and they get beat. I’m driving in Tuscaloosa with that receipt. I’m taking it out somebody.

Justin Riley
He’s bigger than man. I saw your videos on Instagram that night. Did you ever get that GoFundMe page started because I was ready to donate.

Marvin Constant
People saying Hey, come on.

Justin Riley
I was about ready to get in the car and come pick you up and try to make it make it their own time man

Marvin Constant
did not get a stop to save our lives, man.

Justin Riley
So where is the defense at mentally at this point? Is their confidence broken? What? I’m trying to understand where they are right now. Because to give up like you said, almost 650 total yards of offense. Something’s off.

Marvin Constant
You don’t know what it is six flags. See we’re on someone’s vacation man. Someone having a good old time Miami Beach. I don’t know what Island they’re on enjoying themselves because it ain’t football.

Justin Riley
You know, last week Antonio brought the fact that you know, you could look at the you know, COVID calls in this. The fact that we didn’t Have a full spring we didn’t have the players on campus during the offseason during the summer workouts and didn’t really give the coaches time to spend with them working on these schemes and, and calls and things like that. But if you look at what you saw on Saturday, a lot of it had to do with fundamentals or lack thereof. So does that excuse excuse really a whole water in a situation

Marvin Constant
it does not hold water in your situation because you’ve been playing high school or college. cover three is cover three, cover forest cover for cover 001 is one two is two. Now when the person calling the plays is putting you in bad situations, that’s a whole nother issue. When you’re missing tackles that’s a whole nother issue not being physical, a whole nother issue. So to me, it’s just a whole pile of whole nother issues that need to be flushed down the toilet. And maybe we’ll get it right but the acid handed to them come Saturday, because George is not gonna play with them. You better believe Kirby’s telling them about all those losses from the blackout to that 2013 SEC championship to the last SEC championship to the national championship to that game. And Ryan Kirby’s telling about all these s weapons to albums. And I guarantee you, he has them pop and ready to go. He has them saying hey, this is our time. This is gonna be the time when we finally get over the hump. Now. They’ve gotten close to the last two times, right? So we know that going to come prepare, Kirby has them ready to play and knowing he’s going to have them on 1000 if we do have anything like we did last week, we’re going to get killed and I will turn my phone off for about a week or so you won’t be able to get me on here next Tuesday. If we lose I’m telling you now I’m gonna be in my whole high zone when he nobody

Justin Riley
will just do some replays next Tuesday of this year. We will do our best our best moments, I think a little compilation of last week and then when a funny man was old

Unknown Speaker
man

Justin Riley
but you know of course another one excuses I’ve heard that is because all offenses are changing that this is considered to the new normal that when power offenses I call bs

Marvin Constant
bs it’s called pride called want to if you want to do it, or you don’t want to last week they didn’t want to isn’t like they just want to get on that bus and go back to Tuscaloosa and go do whatever it is they want. They do at night. It didn’t like they wanted any parts and old Mrs. office that D fish look slugs, they look beat. They look flat out worn

Unknown Speaker
out.

Marvin Constant
And I can tell you after a game like that. You have to do a lot of recovery stuff doing weak teams and get your body back ready to play. Because they played a lot of plays. So you go from that to I’m sure Nick probably Coach Saban probably wore them out at practice this week. And now you got to play Georgia. That’s a lot of wear and tear on the body.

Justin Riley
What do you think that defensive meeting was like, on Sunday or Monday?

Marvin Constant
I think you’ll find a lot of finger pointing a lot of name calling a lot of cursing.

Justin Riley
Do you think Nick like anybody get a word in edgewise?

Marvin Constant
I don’t think anybody Did you know? Oh, Goldie travels in the back somewhere it is head down. Because again, it starts at the top it starts from bad play call to bad execution to bad fundamentals mean it starts at the top and trickles down. You know it was it was a hospital. There’s not one person that you can isolate over another to say, this is why it happened.

Justin Riley
And let’s say that Alabama fans right now get their wish and play calling duties are turned over to Charlie strong. Do you think that would make too much of an impact? Because we really look at Charlie strong really hadn’t called a defense and a good number of years. He’s been a head coach, but not a true defensive coordinator.

Marvin Constant
Man, I will take my chances with that.

Justin Riley
I just wanted to hear your opinion. I know it’s been on the minds of Oh,

Unknown Speaker
yeah, please.

Marvin Constant
defenses man, listen, what if it can’t get any worse?

Justin Riley
That’s true. I mean, how you get worse than letting your opponent store on virtually every possession?

Marvin Constant
Exactly in it. You know, all that I’ve heard of Charlie strong and outputted. I know that know him. It’s gonna be a practicing. It’s gonna be a want to the, you know, self determination. Charlie’s gonna channel something in them that’s going to get the best out of them. And that’s one of the things as a head coach and as a coordinator, as a coach in general. You get To have the ability to get the best out of your players. I don’t think pod has that ability to challenge that and get that out of his players. I don’t think he knows how to press that. But

Justin Riley
yeah, I think so. And you know, I heard a lot of chatter this past week that if you really look at his resume from top to bottom, it’s making some Alabama fans question as to how he possibly got there. I know, I talked to Steve brown a couple of days ago, man, and he was saying, How did this guy get here? Look at his resume is not all that impressive. So this guy must have done a phenomenal job during the interview. fabricating some things I don’t know.

Marvin Constant
He is a he’s dating coach’s daughter, be he called coach doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing. One of them to

Justin Riley
what we know is not anything he’s supposed to but not supposed to be doing because he never leaves the facility. And he has his mind on one thing. Football. Exactly.

Marvin Constant
So I mean, but I mean, come on, guys resume had to be on a roll of toilet tissue, because it is, you know, but it’s, I’ve seen his resume. It’s like he Where did you come from? You have done nothing to deserve this. All the people that job could have went to

Justin Riley
a man, I want him to speak for me the next job opportunity I’m applying for? Because

Marvin Constant
you need to be somewhere do TED

Justin Riley
talks? Man, I’ll tell you. And while we’re still waiting for our guests to show up, of course, the topic on everybody’s mind is what’s the reality of Pete Golding getting demoted or possibly ousted? Is that something that we really are looking at or disabling given more chances?

Marvin Constant
I don’t think he has many more performances like last Saturday, left in him. You know, I think enough performance like that it’s pretty much gonna solidify his departure. You know, and I know a lot of times coaches don’t like to make changes during the season. But if you want to survive this season, you’re going to have to do some, you know, you’re not going to be able to allow him to continue to do this job. If championship is your true ego. Because to win a championship, you have to have different, nothing about that defensive championship. That defense said, Hey, I’m a middle of the road big 12 team.

Justin Riley
I mean, that’s essentially what it is. I mean, unless you want to patch stats for Iseman Ron, but I mean, yeah, perfect example. Last year, they get to the playoffs. I love Jalen hertz. Don’t get me wrong. I was cheering for him. I wanted him to get an opportunity to win a title for itself. But the fact is, Oklahoma had zero defense. And they got anally annihilated so you know, it doesn’t work.

Marvin Constant
So who gave up more wheat or more yards this past weekend, Oklahoma, Alabama,

Unknown Speaker
Alabama.

Marvin Constant
So we can’t even say middle of the road between the bottom of the bow big 12 team now. That’s what we look like defensively? Almost 700 yards of offens whereas in the past, that defense might have gave up 200 years.

Justin Riley
And you know, we might not even give up 700 yards over a span of five games. So it all happened in one. So now that you got a chance to put it on this whole thing, what do you do as a player to get your mind back on on the ultimate goal that’s winning a championship and doing what you came to that school to do?

Marvin Constant
Are you asking me for my perspective, your perspective currently on it?

Justin Riley
Well, I’m asking pretty for your perspective if you’re on this team right now, you know what the answer is if you were on the team right now from your perspective,

Marvin Constant
I will the starting middle linebacker I’ll be making my own costume to see you and if you make bad I just have to take blame for I kid you not mad because if I if I if I mean cuz all of our situational football you know if I see is 3738 3913 you know situation like that. And I don’t like to call the year I’m adjust to something that I noticed gonna put us in a better position to get us off the field. If I feel like hey, we in this man to man defense, and I feel like they’re gonna run some type of draw from a quarterback or some type of screen game. He almost switched to a zombie check to his own defense to get everybody to watch him. Or if I feel like we need to blitz if it’s a situation where it’s third and two, third and three. And I feel like I see okay, these guys are kind of wide and the hand heavy. Meaning I noticed in the runner bar right here the year might call a blitz to those gaps. Yeah, my call to that side and feel to get people to run there. Yeah, I might just do that.

Justin Riley
You know what I think? To be honest with you, I feel like the whole mentality needs to change. I feel like the Bama factor is gone. So I’m just how do we get that back to this point? I’m kind of scratching my head. You know, I know we’re a little spoiled because of what players like George Teague and Antonio Langham did for us and then what you did with your group. So my question is, is this something that we can get back to real quickly? Are we going to have to have a few more Growing Pains?

Marvin Constant
Ah, I hope it’s not anything bad. I’m hoping that we get it rectified. We better get it rectified by Saturday.

Justin Riley
What are your expectations going into ga? Oh.

Marvin Constant
expectations. I don’t have any expectations. I’m just waiting. So

Justin Riley
I’m not used to being this quiet, man. I’m used. I’m used to the trash talking. I used to the pump went off man. Don’t Don’t let them steal your thunder brother.

Marvin Constant
I stood in my Thunderbird same time, man. I talk so much crap all summer all season. I almost had to eat those words this past Saturday.

Unknown Speaker
That was not a good feeling.

Justin Riley
Absolutely. Of course it does get easier from here. You know, we get past Georgia. Then we got to go to Knoxville and play the volunteers and one of the coaches is waiting to be let in right now. So and then of course, I know LSU is struggling. But LSU LSU. When they play Alabama, that sec schedule is not a forgiving one. So yeah, there is no room for mistakes.

Marvin Constant
Right. So who do we have holding right now?

Justin Riley
We got Kindle man. He’s ready to come in.

Marvin Constant
Well, that means we got Jason on to

Justin Riley
No, he. He did for a second not sure where he’s at. But

Unknown Speaker
he’ll come in when we start with Kindle

Justin Riley
just like the rest of me when they come in. All right. Well, you know, of course last week, we had history makers who set the standard at the defensive back position at the college NFL level. We also had a comedy icon. Not stopped laughing since last week. By the way. It had to be one of the most entertaining shows we’ve ever had. viewed this way should be no different. You know, we focus on the men who are behind the muscle. Please introduce our guests that we have on board tonight.

Marvin Constant
Tonight we’re going to have four amazing guests for you. First and foremost my former roommate, former legend former big dog himself. Former Atlanta Falcons former owner he want to announce that for the former Carolina Panthers Kendall Morehead from University of Tennessee from University of Clemson we got Paul Hogan, from Mississippi State. We’re going to have Alex Watkins in UAB. The legendary big t son, Jason Jones.

Justin Riley
You know, after all the Falcon shaming you’ve been doing lately? I don’t know. Want you to introduce him as a falcon? Yeah, but you know what the posts have been great. I’m waiting for the waiting for the fall down t shirts to be printed on your website. Oh, well, Kindle was here. Not sure where you did off to? I guess he heard what you said. Man, we got an amazing crew. You know Paul Hogan and Kendall Morehead both from you know, the time we were there. Absolute B. Did all sec. I met Matt Pat. Paul was three Tom all sec. All was all sec. Silly Domino that saw the ball. Help Lee one of the best defenses that we ever seen. Really excited about what they bring to the table and what we’re going to learn from them tonight. Especially from a strength coaching perspective. Mm hmm.

Maybe they’ll get cash in a couple of reps before they log on with this.

I guess volley away. Can you tell us any funny stories about your old roommate to welcome him in?

Marvin Constant
Yeah, I’ll tell you this. His mom makes the best chicken salad. Oh, I’ll tell you that. Mom, Morehead make the A she made a chicken salad. Just Oh my god. Listen, just best chicken in my life.

Justin Riley
What’s on?

Marvin Constant
I don’t know. She didn’t give me the recipe.

Justin Riley
Man, I’m just trying to get him in. Oh, my God. I think he might need to share some of that with us so we can get that at the end of the show. That’d be awesome but yeah any any any good stories from when you’re on the field together that maybe the audience doesn’t know about

Marvin Constant
not because he was our business on the field he was definitely our business that was no joking there was no plan he was a man on a mission at all times. You know you know when I say you know a lot of guys you know, they’ll play around a little bit not it was all business with firefall he was not playing at all. He was there for one purpose and that was to wreak havoc.

Justin Riley
What did you see in Kendall early on even as a freshman he came in and just absolutely dominated from the get go I mean, even you know young age I may find like a veteran What did you know? Um, matter of fact, I guess now you heard me talking about him. The man is here.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, bringing me

Justin Riley
he’s connecting I guess he heard all the good stuff.

Unknown Speaker
What’s going on kid Oh,

Unknown Speaker
girl.

Justin Riley
Hey, oh, Marvin didn’t make you go away with all that negative talk about the Falcons. Daddy.

Unknown Speaker
Man. This will break your heart

Marvin Constant
or break your wallet your heart if

Unknown Speaker
you are lying.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah,

Marvin Constant
so he Justin was asking me about you planning college? I will say this when you started talking about handwork. Oh my he had phenomenal handwork. You talk about that a press? He had a phenomenal press and as a dealer. I mean that’s that’s got to be one of your first tools in the toolbox. He was great at that.

Justin Riley
And what I asked Marvin about earlier Kindle is like when you first got there you play like a veteran immediately there was no you know transition period that is not you know, put you on and kind of wait for you to slowly develop I mean, you shot out the cannon. And we’re ready. I mean, you are all ACC from from the start. So how were you able to make that transition so effortlessly?

Unknown Speaker
me honestly I just felt like the high school team I was playing I mean, we were spring loaded at the time. Man we we had about 10 the guys go D one. I mean, about three years in a row we had about 10 guys I felt like we was pretty much college ready with the talent we was playing with in high school already. So when I got there I just felt like it was an easy transition. Even though I never played the lab before until I got to college so

Unknown Speaker
hey, just

Justin Riley
Yes sir.

Marvin Constant
He played on what that the second best High School in America.

Justin Riley
Okay, head to head in high school what’s that outcome look like?

Unknown Speaker
But I don’t think no High School be 96 marrows

Marvin Constant
I think 96 Central which is for

Unknown Speaker
the debate don’t go on for a long time we’ve been going on for long

Justin Riley
I wanted to devote a show to it one day, so I’m down for

Marvin Constant
Justin Paul just texted me I think he’s trying to come home or the ad he’s about to you know that they’re all finishing up their practices you know, we got amazing coaches great institutions on here.

Unknown Speaker
So Jeff walked in the door that’s

Marvin Constant
gotta wrap up practices. So we got this week.

Unknown Speaker
We got Kentucky

Unknown Speaker
Okay, we got

Marvin Constant
Yeah, that should be it. That should be nice perform Kentucky.

Unknown Speaker
Kentucky slacker.

Unknown Speaker
They’re gonna bring you now and it’s always a tough guy against Tennessee. So they’re really

Marvin Constant
well, I got I got a question for you. I’m waiting on Paul and Alex real quick. What do you think about Alabama given up 647

Unknown Speaker
man in a way, in a way I wasn’t shocked. I think they would give up that much. But I know Kippur would go out and go I know Kip had some phone but I didn’t think they have put up their main points.

Marvin Constant
Man if you did you watch that game.

Unknown Speaker
I watched most of

Marvin Constant
they couldn’t get a stop to say they life

Unknown Speaker
at all. I’m telling my heel picking them apart.

Marvin Constant
But but to why are we running cover zero and cover one in third and long instead of plans. I want to play in the sticks and making just play the ball

Unknown Speaker
and making fun way. That’s a good question.

Unknown Speaker
That’s a good question man I don’t know well because

Marvin Constant
we went Amanda man in his 30s it happened several times all they do is when a quarterback draw or when a backdrop everybody chasing receive something nobody can see it right like why are we not just winning the zone a nice safe coverage let him catch the ball tackle them make

Unknown Speaker
them work on the ball that’s true

Unknown Speaker
to have you here

Marvin Constant
man you put on the title of T shirts you can find

Unknown Speaker
it’s quite

Marvin Constant
a circulation off the ERC I put on a shirt though. We got on sprint coats I said we’ll put on some grant code free no I’ll say he wait no you let him in justice.

Unknown Speaker
I don’t see why

Justin Riley
we got somebody we don’t come and we got them coming. I think we got

Unknown Speaker
practice I got you

Justin Riley
I won’t see how many y’all got eligibility left so we can get this defense right

Unknown Speaker
this George play hand though Georgia gonna try to beat him and playing alabama football. The best way to make mistake.

Marvin Constant
cashier quarterbacks throw the ball,

Unknown Speaker
spread it out and really opening up they’ll be dangerous because they got talent.

Justin Riley
But do you think Kirby will ever open it up? I mean, because it seems like he is just bound and determined to run that 1990 style of offense.

Unknown Speaker
Right. That’s all he know, man. He came up under that save a tree when Sabir first started at Alabama. That’s how we play, run, play action play good defense. He’s still think defense wins.

Justin Riley
And well it does.

Unknown Speaker
As good as they do

Justin Riley
now, and like I was talking to Marvin and earlier they had that physical style of defense and we hadn’t exactly been playing physical. So these these Georgia boys are still hit you in the mouth and challenging so I’m curious to see how we’re going to respond to that.

Unknown Speaker
Right? Our group is Paulo yet

Unknown Speaker
I’m on Can you hear me right here we go. Hey, see?

Marvin Constant
You all with with Kendall and Jason brother. We still Alex had cane. Yeah, I guess he steered when in fact, we already are though. So

Unknown Speaker
yeah, what’s up guys? You’re doing good.

Justin Riley
Doing great, Paul.

Unknown Speaker
So Paul, hey.

Marvin Constant
So so I gotta ask you this Paul. We got these coaches from all these other schools Oh, how does it feel to be to know my team and catchy and you get to talk to these other coaches who not

Unknown Speaker
it’s still early in the year man you don’t know you don’t know who’s gonna be good and there’s gonna be bad yet. About the eighth or ninth week of the season you kind of roll with your but right now nobody really knows.

Marvin Constant
And, and I got to thank you, Paul, because you were the one person who could have done me out when I was in Clemson. Shoot neck mercial? Nope, I finally showed that picture. Nobody knew I was gonna dad. Yeah, he knows.

Unknown Speaker
You broke

Unknown Speaker
you broke the code on

Marvin Constant
ESPN cut me a check. And you were Tennessee gear now? So

Justin Riley
how’d that happen? Man?

Unknown Speaker
Right. You go like crazy.

Justin Riley
Man in turn lead you straight to Knoxville. But hey, I’m proud of you, man. I’m excited to see what you’re doing there and the door that God’s open for you. And this great opportunity in a sec ball store program. can’t get any better than that.

Unknown Speaker
Grandma. It’s true. I appreciate

Marvin Constant
let’s go ahead and jump into it. Justin let’s get them rolling. I know these guys. They got to get ready for the early morning workout so we can’t keep him

Justin Riley
I completely understand. So before we get into the meat of things, what kind of leji on the strength coaching your biggest influences and what made you fly you know this was your calling.

Unknown Speaker
Go ahead with me.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, we’ll start with you can

Unknown Speaker
I actually when I first went to Alabama, I went there trying to coach on the field. You know and actually mov and consonants to one put it in my head told me when I go back to finish my degree because he had did it and he worked in the weight room and once I got in there mean all the contact we have with the guys how much time we have with them how much input we have on, I kind of just fell in love with, I felt like me they wit us more than they are with the coaches. So you have a lot of impact on you know, their development.

Unknown Speaker
Well, that you call.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you know, I actually I started in the weight room. When I went to see my senior year after my senior year, I went to the Raiders, and that I actually got cut the day before 911. So when, when the 911 hit, you know, football on all got canceled that week. And I was looking for a job and they didn’t have anything available at Alabama. And my offensive line coach was working at Georgia. And he asked me if I wanted to come over there and volunteer, you know, just to come on the field and kind of learn I’d be like a volunteer, you know, grad assistant. So I did that for a semester. And then I called a mile more and they actually had a spot open in the weight room. And so I started in the weight room. And that’s where I wanted to be that’s where my heart was, but you know, God had a different plan. And they had a galley that was breaking down film upstairs and they said hey, why don’t you move upstairs and break now film for so I ended up doing that. And then I did that for a year and and then the home the field ga left they need somebody to go on the field. So I’m like, I’m not gonna say I got stuck on the coaching side of it. But for a good while there I was on the coaching side of it. I wanted to get back on the strength conditioning side of it. But hindsight looking back, it was good to see how coaches break down film what they look for, you know, when they’re recruiting athletes, what are they? What are they looking for, and just kind of get get a inside the head of a position coach.

Justin Riley
Absolutely. Jason, I know you got pretty honest with your dad. But what was the main reason that you got into into this line of work?

Unknown Speaker
Oh, I really didn’t have a plan. Oh, oh, good girl, bad environment. So like, when I was young, I stayed in a weight room saw the athletes and they’re working out and so there was just something that I always grew up wanted to try to do try to stay in the weight room somewhat. And I ended up interning, what else I interned with like Cochran, I thought saying how much energy has to how much I am bought more here like more here. We’re one of the five I was involved with the coaches. So I made with the players. I was like, There’s something I want to do. So I just kept striving toward it. And eventually again, you know, football strength conditioning job

Marvin Constant
you feel when you just want to kill sleeves? Um, well, you know,

Justin Riley
we all got to set our goals high. And you know, guess mark, Marvin is the standard. So

Marvin Constant
trying to hold it together.

Justin Riley
Your brother? Okay, well, let’s talk about really the man that kind of got everybody started. That was coach TJ, Can y’all talk about his influence on y’all, and then what takeaways you’ve got from him that you’ve incorporated in your own style of coaching, especially in the string theory.

Unknown Speaker
Rare where we may when it comes to clothes, TJ, you know, TJ was Bob Craig to me, he’s close thing I have had so far. So every opportunity I had come my way I always ran it back close, TJ and now I mean, that’s pretty much the guy learn everything I know from every question I had. I took it to TJ no pants experience I had with PCOS, TJ I kind of care with me today. So I’d say everything I learned in the weight room pretty much came from PCOS, TJ

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, same thing here with me. You know, the I learned a lot in the day one of the main thing I learned from from TJ was, you know, the bottom line is performance. And it’s not the bottom line isn’t how much you benchpress or how much water how big your arms are. The bottom line is does it make you a better football player? And so one, remember one of the things that was always funny is you know, he would see me or maybe a couple other guys doing curls or something. And he called that TJ called and I’m gonna use the nice the nice way of saying that the clean way of saying he said the bodybuilding bs that’s what he called. He said, y’all doing that bodybuilding bs so still, to this day, you know, I’ve only got a certain amount of time to train my players, and I am not gonna waste time on arms, if we’re gonna, if I want to, if I want to make the arms bigger, we’re gonna do dips, or we’re gonna do chin ups, we’re gonna do something that’s, you know, we’re not going we’re not going to waste a lot of time, you know, doing arm curls. So, you know, that was one thing I learned from from tj.

Justin Riley
There, I worked with the strength program last semester at Alabama, and he’d always come in there and call out players, they were more concerned about their arms. And that bodybuilding stuff’s pretty good memory. But Jason, what did you take away from your father? And what’s your How do you incorporate it, and your style doing things?

Unknown Speaker
I’m still learning still to this day. But um, he really, he really like everyday, he always told me you’re gonna be a student, like every single day you learn something never get comfortable is going to sound and go through a routine. So with him, I learned how to how to build relationships with all my players, you know. So right now, the big thing is a lot of technology and stuff in the game. And he always told me, your biggest thing now is going to be a relationship. Once you do tricks with all your players, you’re gonna get intent behind every single workout, so you won’t need a screen to show you how fast they’re moving the bar, you can tell that they move in the bar pants, because they’re gonna trust you, they’re gonna put intent behind every workout. So I will now my big thing is build relationships with all my players.

Justin Riley
Marvin, I can ask you the same thing of course you you were under him as well. What was your biggest takeaway from him? Especially now that you’ll fitness is is your thing you got a one of the best books out there that covers the topic? What did you learn from TJ that you’re implementing in your own fitness lifestyle?

Marvin Constant
One of the most important things that I learned from Coach Jones was not to be too strong. No, not even playing, you know, he brought it to me because when I came down, I’m already pitching 460 470 pounds, squatting well over 600 pounds. from him, I learned that you know, when you start to push your body to a certain limit, you can be come harmful to yourself, you know, learn your limits, learn how to work out in a way that you’ll get results without harming yourself. And that’s the thing that a lot of people have not learned. Everybody think that just because you’re working out that’s a that’s what you’re supposed to do. But you can seriously injure yourself from working out. So from here, you know, I learned a lot of do’s and don’ts about working out how to get the results you want, while maintaining your

Unknown Speaker
health.

Justin Riley
I can’t tell you how I had the opportunity to be under empowered, who really changed the strength and conditioning landscape in college football. You know, what about his methods allowed so much growth and strength from your team? And you personally?

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that was a big change. You know, we were, we were so used to work with TJ in his style and how he did everything and Pollack came in and pretty much changed my everything on the French on it. And it was a good experience, you know, learning new ways, different voice different ideas, seeing it in a different way. Man, I felt like it was a positive influence.

Justin Riley
Because Jason, you had the opportunity to work under Scott Cochran who, you know, I guess, took it that tours that Pollard passed and put it to a whole nother level a whole nother energy. Just what did you experience from him? And what have you taken for with you from what he’s taught you?

Unknown Speaker
Oh, man, I learned a lot from Cogburn. During the time. I remember when I was there when he first got there like 27. And he was full of energy. And then when you start getting older, he started telling me like, you know, always stay true to yourself. So I try to come every day with energy, but at the same time, he always told me to stay true to myself and be my own coach. So I can’t come in there. imitate him. Be my own coach. There’s one thing he always taught me and I try to carry it on while I go when I coach now.

Justin Riley
What about his methods? It made me so successful in the street coaching arena.

Unknown Speaker
Recruiting.

Marvin Constant
It ain’t hard when you got the best horses in the state.

Unknown Speaker
That’s true. But when you got that talent like that, you still got to have a relationship with God got to believe in you. Because when they do that right through a wildfire, that’s what was their relationship with the weight room was above everything. They came to us for everything. They trusted us. They believe what we was telling them. And the energy was always high. They knew what they was gonna get when they came in there.

Marvin Constant
Yeah. Now on a side note, I got to give props to one person. This person was a phenomenal football player, but he didn’t want to work out for nothing that Chris says Chris was on here a few weeks ago. I’ve never seen a player perform at his level and barely worked out. You talk about grown man strength.

Unknown Speaker
Y’all know what I’m talking about?

Unknown Speaker
Christina,

Unknown Speaker
things was a lot different back then. You know how we had we had TJ coach Martin, and maybe one, maybe two guys in there. Man, you got 30 guys in that lift, and you can skate by with things. But that man, we pretty much see every rail. I mean, every set every rep, so you can pretty much get away with anything. today.

Unknown Speaker
we’ve witnessed a

Justin Riley
focus on fitness and society when from when you all started, before strength coaches, you know, will read about now you guys can easily be considered the most vital please, to a team other than the head coach, how critical is this aspect of things?

Unknown Speaker
You broke up? Can you say that one more time.

Justin Riley
A lot of saying that, you know, since y’all first started in the game, the focus on society as far as fitness goes, is greatly shifted, you know, the strength coach now, where in the past wasn’t really talked about a whole lot. But now is like, y’all are considered like the most vital part of the team. Other than the head coach, how critical is what y’all do to attain success?

Unknown Speaker
Well, I think the offseason is really important, as far as building a baseline that you can, that you can build, you know, your football skills off of, and not get hurt. I mean, honestly, in season, you know, you want to try to do the bare minimum. And make sure you’re leaving plenty of energy for those guys on the field. You know, in a, you know, it kind of in a nutshell, that’s that’s what I would say.

Unknown Speaker
And that’s what I mean by that. You know, that contact you have with the guys as a script Coach cosmin the whole summer when a program, man, they pretty much yours? Yeah, you got him every day all day. So yeah, all relationships with him and it pays off.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that’s, that’s one thing I was, I guess I was getting that was, he spent so much time with him, you know, what they’re capable, capable of. And, you know, that becomes very critical in season, when you get a guy that just played 100 snaps, you know, two days before. And you know, there’s a certain amount of work that needs to be done in order to maintain your strength. With the bottom line being you got to perform again on Saturday at a high level. You know, no one that player and he’s got to trust you because he feels like he’s just been in a car wreck. And you’re telling him Hey, look, we at least got a squat, you know, we got to put X amount of weight on the bar, and at least get a couple reps with it. You know, so, yeah, it does come down to no one. No one your players how talented they are. And some guys just need confidence. You know, some guys just want to, they got to lift a certain a certain number, you know, on benchpress or whatever, just so they have confidence going into that game. And then there’s some guys you know, like Chris Samuels who just had great talent and he didn’t you know, he didn’t need that.

Marvin Constant
Alright, I got a question for y’all. I know Justin, probably nastiest but I’m gonna ask you. Everybody knows that on game days. Strength coaches. Number one job is to keep the coach off the field. funniest thing that ever happened to y’all when y’all were telling a coach to get off the seat?

Justin Riley
That’s a good point.

Unknown Speaker
Because I know some words shade behind it.

Unknown Speaker
I saw I saw a coach Venables almost jumped on a fumble, one day, forgot who we were playing. But the golf fumbled it in the ball was like a foot from the sidelines and there was a bunch of people around and none of our guys could see it. And he literally ran. I mean, he he was dang there on the field, pointing at the ball, trying to tell the guys it’s right here. And he It was so he was so close. Eventually he had to roll backwards off the field. I still don’t know how he didn’t get tell somebody didn’t run into him.

Unknown Speaker
So, have you ever got Coach Saban off the field? Now I had a rule. I had a rule. I had a rule in Alabama. Everybody give back.

Unknown Speaker
Everybody gotta give back.

Unknown Speaker
He say you went Messel

Unknown Speaker
you went touching that hot rod Murphy repair.

Unknown Speaker
I don’t mess with Dabo either Dabas. You got the you got the referees box, you got the coach’s box and you got the players box. A Dabo just stays in the referees box. So we just don’t even you know, he just does his own thing. And they just, I guess their coaches can do that.

Unknown Speaker
I’ve never seen him say anything to a head coach.

Marvin Constant
What about you? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker
yeah. No, I’m learning from them.

Marvin Constant
Say you ain’t you ain’t getting them off the field?

Unknown Speaker
No, sir. No, sir. I’m copying from my to my two mentors, listening.

Justin Riley
Can y’all talk trician side of things. And how important is that, you know, in regards to what you’re doing?

Unknown Speaker
Man, that’s a major part of what we’re doing. We taken a lot out of these guys. So you take it out of you got to put it right back in. And nutrition side of it, you know, they’re gonna put the right things and you know, the young kids, the first thing they want to do is run off and grab some quick. So when they come off the field, leaving a workout, you know, nutrition, right, they’re putting it right back in with the right things. And that helps big time with their recovery.

Marvin Constant
Now, but in terms of nutrition, we all know that a lot of these keys to growing they come in from hospital, some of them depending upon their economic status is probably weren’t eating the things that they should, he probably wasn’t even eating enough. So when you got young kids that come in like that, you know, they have all the potential in the world. But physically, that body’s just not ready yet. So how do you get a body of a 19 1819 year old has been now nourished, ready to play a season in a matter of weeks one shot get.

Unknown Speaker
I’ll be I’ll say this, it’s amazing to see what the human body can do. And I mean, like, for example, 889 years ago, when I was our nutritionist, I was just I was the strength coach slash nutritionist. Eight years ago, here at Clemson, that’s all we had. And I was back there spotting guys. And then I would go wash my hands, and I’m making shakes, and I’m coming back, and I’m spotting guys, we got and I would see guys show up for summer workout and all they had had all day as a banana. And they were able to go through the workouts. And then, you know, fast forward to this year, when we only had four weeks to get them ready for a football season. And so, you know, all you know, 15, I think we had 15 or 16 workouts, all 15 or 16 of those workouts had to absolutely count. And the rate that we were able to push those guys and make the progress that we did in four weeks. It It was really amazing. But you can’t do that without proper nutrition. I mean, you got an anybody can go in there and tear muscle tissue, you know, but it’s what’s happened in the other 22 hours out of the day. That’s going to determine whether they grow and come back. And I’ll be honest with you, I think there’s still a lot we don’t know. Now what I want to do that every year to try and you know, take four guys to try to get a guy ready for football season. Heck, no. And, and I think you’re gonna see, you know, about mid season is going to be when it’s going to be real crucial. That, you know, you find a balance between stress and risk with these guys. Because, you know, they’re they were ready for the first four weeks of the season, because that’s how long we’ve been training. But, you know, I don’t know, you know, there’ll be some, I think there’ll be a lot of weird injuries here mid season that normally you don’t have. I hope not. But, you know, I think there’ll be some some teams that, you know, maybe they didn’t have quite the nutrition or quite the, you know, dedication during the offseason. You know, you may see some weird stuff happened mid season.

Marvin Constant
Well, you know, I tell a lot of these young guys when I talk to them that they’re actually very blessed and very fortunate that the NCAA has stepped in and put a lot of practices and procedures in place because we played

Unknown Speaker
it was three you know?

Unknown Speaker
That was like torture man.

Marvin Constant
Like dude, we just came off the field. We’ve been on the field long enough at Grenoble and changed my socks and you want me right back. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Dave has no idea about that.

Marvin Constant
No, duboce He’s always just in shale. Real practice to me, we’ll go for.

Unknown Speaker
You know, Jason had there not

Unknown Speaker
been the COVID thing this year, I think you would have seen some really freaky big football players. Because the the rule changes, you know, last year was the first year that you really saw guys grow. And I wish I could show you the body fat and the muscle mass changes that, you know, just our offensive line made. You know, last year when we had a full offseason with unlimited feeding. I mean, it was on real to see their body comp changes. Um, but then this year, you know, we didn’t have that. So it would have been interesting to see, I think you would have seen some really big freaky looking guys, I think the only difference between the bodies this year and last year is you got guys that are probably five to 10 pounds less muscle mass, you know, prove true?

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I’m excited for the, for the offseason to see how big guys get. Yep.

Justin Riley
Can you tell us a little bit about the success each of your programs have achieved on your training and maybe even moments where certain athletes I guess, have proven the strength and conditioning arena?

Unknown Speaker
I’d say mean, with the talent that we had at the University of Alabama, I mean, you can’t see nothing but results. And when you have talent like that, I know Paul can speak on it too, when you have talent like that, that’s willing to work and put the work and those guys put in I mean, your job as a coach is pretty easy. You asked me You know, it all depends on the type of athletes you have. You have guys that’s talented. And on top of that they willing to work, man make your job a lot easier. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker
well, I’d say, you know, I was a ga at Clemson, gosh, 15 years ago, I guess, or something like that. And, and I and back then we weren’t getting near the talent that we’re getting now. And so, you know, this, it was pretty much the same program back then. And we had some donkeys I mean, we had, we did not have talent, and those guys will tell you to, and we still had guys, you know, getting drafted. And we’re getting developed. And now I’ll say you’re getting more of a ready made product. But the better better recruiting now. And it’s almost you know, it’s like for example like like Jackson Carmen our left tackle he was he’s probably the most talented kid that I’ve

Unknown Speaker
ever

Unknown Speaker
tried to you know, train and, and he was a kid that had never lifted weights. You know, he just got bound strictly talent. And so just anything was going to help him you know, he’s already a good football player. I’m not gonna make him a good football player. Now, I could screw him up by trying to do too much with him but he was already a ready made product, you know, but I’ve seen you know, I’ve seen also seen guys that were you know, know star athletes that that came in and did all the right things and you know, mighty got a free agent shot, you know, and made it so. Yeah, I’ve seen a little bit of both in the last you know, 10 years at Clemson.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, my, my short amount of time coaching. A lot of them guys that come in, they already come kind of prepared. Are you gonna teach them like, take me to Olympic Olympic lifts? And I’m guys already so smart that they’ll just do it quickly. So you might teach them something real small on Olympus and ninjas. It is legit.

Unknown Speaker
So like,

Marvin Constant
I quickly if one of y’all have all of you I want to touch on this. A lot of people have always asked me what is the purpose of working out the day after a game? Why do players go run and live the day after again? Y’all might want to get my attack on that. Just blood flow. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, get that blood flowing that soreness out. You know just like when you start working out you work out you get up next day you saw best thing to do workout again. Just get that blood flowing. There a lot of times you find that kids especially when our dad driller

Unknown Speaker
basically with all that drilling running during a during the game. The next day you might be lifting weights like oh man, my egg, my ankles swollen or man a lot of things like knick knack things you might find afterwards. that you didn’t find any game so I loved

Unknown Speaker
that too. So

Justin Riley
I gotcha. Um, of course Jason one of the things I’ve noticed about UAB is the tremendous change in physicality ram came back it’s not the same UAB as it was in the past it seemed like you’ll have a different different brand of being physical what has really led to that change as far as that side of things.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, well, I got there. I got there in February. But with me I work with cold loud, loud and he comes with like a real good mentality like getting the guy the wraparound the intent of working out and kind of giving them messages before practice before workouts after workouts and kind of like getting them locked in every single day to come in and try to be there because I know he was there before I got there. So he might be able to speak on it. Speak on it as well.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah, the man’s job. I was there for Baba about eight months and like you said, coastal out that when he spent I think a year or just scrimmaging each other working out so a lot of things when they actually when they they canceled the program it almost kind of helped them in like boosting for because they spent about one year only doing developmental work. So you got those guys out like that one good way that this but it was good athletes you’re able to spend a whole year just developing them. So when they came back there was a whole whole different whole different person. And once you start winning anybody know on on this call, once you start winning, you get better Cavalia athletes so and that plays rolling to

Marvin Constant
Alex I got I got to say thank you to you as well Alex you know because the other three gentlemen on this call disappointed because I just knew that they were gonna get on and they was gonna have on a shirt a coach’s pull over some with a logo that’s why I put my logo on B team affiliate today Alex showed up with the

Unknown Speaker
I just came in at

Unknown Speaker
sea I said

Unknown Speaker
hey, when I come to work around with it Alabama so long I leave Tennessee get home Take my shower and when I change clothes that’s all right back home Alabama.

Justin Riley
How do you put on an orange man

Unknown Speaker
a lease you

Justin Riley
oh you may take away from your time in Alabama as a player under coach Cochran and how did you implement you know what you learn while there when you read UAB and even now at state

Unknown Speaker
so

Unknown Speaker
when I was at Alabama I was always a hard worker you know? Cosmo a bouncer that I was also her Hawking guy so that the weight room stuff came came kind of easy to me but when I when I learned when I came back he never learned things as a as a player that you learned as a coach I came back and intern after being with the Tennessee Titans for for for a year. And

Unknown Speaker
I learned that

Unknown Speaker
coast cracking can basically I learned how to motivate motivated kid. Alright, so Coggan following the best motivators that I’ve that I’ve been around. Um, and then I guess you got a lay man on the phone. cojones. cojones also taught me to nose. So he’s been He’s my mentor. And then Uh, no, I went to Stillman. I went to Texas Southern and then I got to UAB where a lot of things just learn how to mold that athlete and athlete is more is more than an athlete. He’s a person first. So you develop the person within an athlete and athlete and calm so there’s a lot of guys there’s a lot of guys like Julio that was very good guys got a lot of guys like Mark Ingram those they’re good guys. And you know next sale when they get to winning to 10 NFL so

Justin Riley
I got a question from the audience. Do y’all have specific goals for the major lifts or they’re in a little bit more broader than that?

Unknown Speaker
My my major goal, if it’s a power clean is just strictly to make them more explosive. I’m not trying to make Olympic lifters. Great if they can get their power clean up to 315. Great, you know, but I’m just trying to make them more explosive. I’m just trying to make them a better football player. I mean, if getting this guy stronger, makes him a better football player. Great if getting this guy more explosive, maximum better football player. Great. So no, I would say no, I don’t have specific goals other than to make them the best at that lift that they could possibly be.

Unknown Speaker
There I agree with Paul true, you want to make them bigger, stronger and faster, man that should go. But at the end of the day, you want to make sure they get to that feel healthy, in the best shape possible. So they can really go out and do what they really come to do. They don’t come that really to lift weights, we want to maintain them, get them bigger, stronger and faster. But we want to make sure they help for the football field.

Unknown Speaker
I agree with everything they say pretty much just I mean, if they come in with a focus on like, Look, I want to get my power. My power clean. Oh, my main thing is not how much weight you got on the bar. But how can you move their weight on the board? Like how can you move the bar? How fast can you move the bar rather than how much weight you can get? So when they get more fluid and a little Dan was worried about weight after So

Marvin Constant
Jason you know what your dad favorite saying used to be

Unknown Speaker
speed on the ball speed.

Unknown Speaker
All day long speed on the bar. Yeah. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
I agree. I agree with all the guys all the coaches.

Unknown Speaker
The one thing that you want that I may not believe in is a guy come in, I guess of course the guy you got come in it, he claims tool five, right. So of course you’re gonna have will have goals that I guys say you’re going to get, you gotta be better than look for a guy comes in squat. On three 315 he played D line. So of course you won’t get those numbers up. But as I was saying, like, all right, lifting weights don’t make make you athlete. Alright, so But, but it makes you better and makes you a better athlete. So I’m just making a more of a lifter. Like everybody said, Man, just intend on a bar moving too fast. Do you just quietly come in squatting 500, but better squatting 500, then to about within a program 12 weeks and then programming it boom 500 with speed. And then you also reach that, that level their level of like no coach or lack of contact with that use their level of this 600 squat and 600 really matter. You know, I’m saying you know, if you squat 600 squat and 600 slope, you still don’t get you still don’t get what you get out that you own. You build. If you build athlete, you want to build fast you don’t want them slow. So you started in the weight room. You move bar fast, you move fast on the football field, you move Barcelona for fear and weight room we might discuss in my coordinator, you’ve been a slow athlete. So we all power athletes net. Not trying to be worse, man. So

Justin Riley
gotcha. Another question. Question from the audience. What advice do you have for guys trying to enter your field?

Unknown Speaker
Start early.

Unknown Speaker
Early, early, you barely figure out what you do. Um, yo, effect doesn’t get in the field. But I feel like this is no good. Get a good great mentor. You know, start with a guy. A lot of guys I’m pretty sure a lot of guys on on the phone you are you gonna work for free first. Never. Anything. So once you get in this field, don’t try to look for the check. Don’t try to look for the money wrap. I look for what we’re gonna make you a better a better strength conditioning coach. So that’s why he doesn’t mess. That’s my advice.

Marvin Constant
And tell Steve cuz I’ve heard how do you hear coaches talk somebody strength coach? Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, they talk. They talk Christ. But I tell them all the time I’m there. I hear it every day.

Unknown Speaker
Every day in a way.

Justin Riley
What about you, Paul, you got any advice? For someone who’s trying to get into this field? doesn’t necessarily need to start working with the team or can they still be successful as far as entering this arena without it?

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you know, first, I mean, you just gotta love it. I mean, if you don’t love it,

Unknown Speaker
you’re probably not gonna be in it very long.

Unknown Speaker
I would say that first but, you know, it just depends on what you want to do you want to be around a team setting? Do you just want to help people? really depends on what you want. You know, what do you what do you want to get out of it? Or do you what do you want other people to get out of it?

Justin Riley
Gotcha. II advice for

Unknown Speaker
I agree with what Paul said to Simon, Thank you, Jay got a little bit, you got a little bit in the weight room, because you’re gonna spend a lot of hours in there. And then, as well write stuff down like me growing up, Danna, a lot of stuff, I will, I will remember this, I remember that, write stuff down try to try to actually have it on paper, have you tried to keep everything bottled up in your head trying to remember. So

Justin Riley
as far as get them getting their foot in the door, anything that they need to do as far as I guess upon in their in,

Unknown Speaker
you got to be certified. You either have to be a CSCs or CSC ca certified. That’s the only two that you can have. You can’t just get any, any certification off the internet, it’s got to be the main certification, it’s getting harder to think now you actually have to have a physiology, some type of physiology, background or physiology degree. They’ve made they’ve made more rules to it now than, than it used to be used to be you just you pass the test. Yeah. And and if you’ve got a Master’s then you know, you can you can enter the field. But that would be the biggest hurdle would be getting certified first.

Marvin Constant
No, LA Fitness Trainers is what

Unknown Speaker
especially after that situation that happened to America, in Oregon to a couple years back, you know, but like they say, you gotta love what you do. And you got to come in, you know, especially in this level, if you talking about how big time football, man, it starts to relationships. I’m saying you got to come in, you just gotta love what you do. You got to work. No, you’re gonna have to work for free when you first start. And just get it and do what you love. And you’re gonna build relationships, and your work, don’t speak for itself.

Unknown Speaker
When you know, and if you

Unknown Speaker
love what you do, you’re not going to care what kind of job you’re, you know, doing or if you’re getting paid. That’s what I’m saying. You gotta love it. Because you’re gonna get all the crap jobs, you can volunteer and you’re going to get you’re going to get the crap jobs, but you just got to be it be willing to stick it out? And if you love it, it’s not work.

Justin Riley
Right? Absolutely. Yeah. What do you guys looking for when you’re promoting an assistant and turn or a grad assistant? I

Unknown Speaker
mean, the same thing Paul would just say a guy that love what he does. Now that’s just not there. You know? Learn every day because don’t nobody know it all. Now every athlete is different. You can’t treat every athlete to sign getting their work grind do the little things and it’ll pay off for

Justin Riley
Jason you got anything on that?

Unknown Speaker
Oh yeah, science pretty much the same thing. Oh, and just coming into everyday life he can’t come into our well we just live yesterday or somebody who want to lie You can’t have you can’t come into wine and talking about do we just love this day that you love what you do? You won’t come into first of the morning ready to go so you don’t want your players in there with no energy you want your players in a way energy ready to go and trying to take their challenge every single day so any guy that’s trying to get into the field well we had a we had an entire not too long ago they came to UAB I felt like every day just take every day the challenge man just try to get yourself better and try to get we’ll be coaching better at science on

Marvin Constant
JC you could tell us the truth because he was reading you offseason workout programs as a baby instead of nursery rhymes.

Unknown Speaker
You know he never got to work. All you ever got was bird up down.

Unknown Speaker
TJ used to call that stuff. The birth the burpees he called it stupid.

Justin Riley
Well, I know y’all got families and whatnot to get back to but before we let y’all go can each of you Tell me what your overall goal is for your programs.

Unknown Speaker
Were this my

Marvin Constant
miracle order with the number one team in the country? Are we just going random?

Justin Riley
We’re gonna go with the number one

Unknown Speaker
are you shopping a little commercial? Are you just

Unknown Speaker
you know, my

Unknown Speaker
my goal with these guys when you know is is always just to help them be the best version of themselves. I know that sounds cliche, but that’s, that’s really my goal. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
And I agree with that. Yeah, on and off the field. You know, yeah, just football, you know, just on and off the field. commoner 18 year old young man, leave out a grown man

Justin Riley
asked what, what is your overall goal as far as what you’re doing at Mississippi State and, you know, maybe even down the road.

Unknown Speaker
Alright, so now of course, we know, Mike, this guy here and we incorporate a different type of system, which are real time creating a new culture, but get back to the culture they used to. They used to be Mississippi State. I mean, everybody know, like, when I was playing with them, he Mississippi besides musical being a doll five, you know, saying he’s for three quarters, I said, Hey, guys might come I banged up. So really trying to get back to the dog mentality. Alright, so that’s what we’re doing. That’s what we’re trying to do do here. And then course you’re gonna be trying to do a bit athletes, you try to be better people. I mean, we don’t do that you don’t do that along the way. But now just trying to get back to that grind. And that when we stay used to be, so that’s what we that’s what we’re really trying to get back to more than anything else. That’s I go,

Justin Riley
gotcha. Jason.

Unknown Speaker
With the coach signed up with wholesale Moriah said, just keep the player on and off the field, UAB got a pretty winning tradition right now to winning culture right now. So I’m just trying to do my part that helped don’t keep winning, you know, keep the players safe. Keep the players healthy over this. Doing is COVID. And just, you know, getting locked in that level. Oh,

Justin Riley
I gotcha. Guys, I really appreciate your time. And I appreciate y’all coming on. And it’s amazing to see you know, what y’all doing on each of our programs and what God has done as far as opening doors. I appreciate you coming and sharing your knowledge with us. And there are a lot of folks who are listening tonight that we’re really excited about this aspect of things. I appreciate the knowledge that you brought in and what we’ve learned today.

Marvin Constant
Want to take the time and thank you guys, man. Listen, when I tell you I couldn’t be more proud of you for man. All of you Alabama grads, Crimson Tide family beside five brotherhood man. I love turning on my TV on Saturdays. watching games. Seeing y’all on sidelines, man, y’all understand how important that is to a lot of us out here. Because we don’t play anymore. We’re still just fans but the fact of seeing our brothers out here on these fields still involved at a high level in the game that we grew up loving our entire lives man is a powerful thing that I do never take for granted, man keep impacting those young kids changed last. And again. Thank you, too.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.

Justin Riley
All right, cool guy.

Marvin Constant
If y’all want to exchange some pleasantries, I’m sure some of y’all got to play each other at some point so y’all want to hash it out a little bit real quick.

Justin Riley
Well, we do need to make predictions if anybody wants to join me Marvin myself and that

Marvin Constant
I don’t think they can make predictions Yeah,

Unknown Speaker
I don’t think so either.

Unknown Speaker
Now we take we take one game at a time right

Unknown Speaker
focus on one

Unknown Speaker
yeah

Unknown Speaker
we got this

Justin Riley
Alabama stuff underneath the Tennessee shirt next weekend or no?

Unknown Speaker
No idea. I’m bad. I want that guy.

Unknown Speaker
Know Me in my spare time. I mean, I’m still Alabama. That’s my school. I got low, but 2007 I’ll go balls. Oh, no, I can

Marvin Constant
do Alex. I got a question. Paul. I got a question for all three. Yeah, real quick. Are y’all ready and anticipate and plan Alabama to ship because everybody says that defenses down. Does everybody feel like this is the year to just completely dominate Alabama?

Unknown Speaker
No, I never been that type Player,

Unknown Speaker
Player or that type of coach. I want to beat him. They best. Yeah won’t be my day best. I won’t say best. Cuz What if they’re expected to win they down and I find I want to kill him. So I want to take off the top dog. But they all stayed up still put off 60 pounds. So yeah, and they’ve given them

Unknown Speaker
up to you guys. Yeah

Unknown Speaker
I know but we won’t be I you know.

Unknown Speaker
I guess we just don’t keep going we’ve been doing

Justin Riley
I mean watching.

Unknown Speaker
It’s too early. It’s too early. I mean, we played four games. I mean, it’s just, you know who’s good and who’s bad and I just probably had a bad game. I mean, yes.

Marvin Constant
Have you been on F slap? Whoa,

Unknown Speaker
what’s up?

Marvin Constant
I’m gonna ask Have you been on that slide?

Unknown Speaker
Oh, the slide in the

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Oh, I go down every day.

Unknown Speaker
Every day is the fastest route, man. It’s the fastest route in it don’t show up right next to a frigerator and you can just grab something to drink and watch the weight room. I go up at sometimes like if I’m in a hurry, I will run up the slide just because it’s faster.

Marvin Constant
My knees sit up. I can’t quite do that constantly. Hey.

Unknown Speaker
It’s alright.

Justin Riley
Alright guys, well, thank you all again. It’s been an honor and a pleasure. Again, glad to have you guys on. Very like Marvin Gaye, very proud of what you guys doing on the field. It speaks volumes and I look forward to what the future holds for each y’all.

Unknown Speaker
And good luck this weekend.

Marvin Constant
All right. See you guys.

Unknown Speaker
All right, man. Appreciate no problem.

Justin Riley
All right, Marvin. You ready to jump into predictions? Always. Alright, man. We’re gonna start out with number 11, Texas a&m versus mississippi state.

Unknown Speaker
So

Justin Riley
I was like all so you can

Marvin Constant
read my wages for the week. I picked Texas a&m would that five and a half. I took Florida with the two and a half. I took North Carolina with the nine at Ole Miss. And then I took South Carolina.

Justin Riley
Oh, wow. So does a&m have a hangover this week after that big win against Florida or they handle their business?

Unknown Speaker
After slow

Justin Riley
Yeah, I know you did. I did to kind of feel that at home. There’s a slight chance they may have. They may fault upset and they did and Kalamata played the game of his life. Now if he would just play the other games like that. He might be a future top 10 pick. Right? Right. All right. Number 18. Tennessee versus Kentucky,

Unknown Speaker
Tennessee.

Justin Riley
All right. Ole Miss vs Arkansas.

Unknown Speaker
Ole Miss.

Justin Riley
Number 10. Florida vs LSU. I know the game has lost a little bit of its luster because of what happens going on and down in Baton Rouge, but it’s still a robbery game.

Marvin Constant
Yeah, and all the positive code test in Florida. Oh my god. So I picked Florida originally, but I’m gonna stick with that plan. Yeah, she’s been

Justin Riley
to do you think that the game may go on? There have been talks? they ceased operations today actually. And I think 19 players were

Unknown Speaker
no.

Justin Riley
So that’s something to definitely watch. All right. After the fresh loss to Clemson Miami has taken home kit out of the Hurricanes handle this one.

Marvin Constant
I think there was fun. Yeah. I think Miami and my team.

Justin Riley
All right. Those other guys versus South Carolina.

Unknown Speaker
South Carolina.

Justin Riley
I Clemson versus Georgia Tech. I know Georgia Tech. Not too flashy but they are getting it done here as of late. But are they ready to take home the number one Tigers

Marvin Constant
know they’re nowhere near ready. No. All right.

Justin Riley
Big Game of the weekend. Yeah. Big Game of the weekend. I went a little ahead of myself there. Number two Alabama versus number three Georgia.

Marvin Constant
Gotta go. I mean naturally. My Worried? No.

Different between being nervous, you know?

Unknown Speaker
Can we fit in?

Marvin Constant
That is the key. I feel like we’re going to come up on but we’re gonna have to fit a nervous about how we’re going to finish.

Justin Riley
very valid a very valuable thing right there? I am do I’m kind of nervous about how we’re going to respond after last week and how we’re going to answer all the heavy criticism that we received. And we’re facing a Georgia team that, like you mentioned earlier, man, they’re tired of those those losses. They’re tired of hearing about not being able to reach that next level. They’re, they’re ready to come in. And they’re really they’re ready to become the team in the sec. But this is a big game. Like we mentioned earlier from Matt Jones. As far as being considered for the Heisman, this is his showcase. I don’t feel like we’re going to put up 40 or 50 points again, just because of the style of play from the Georgia defense, the number one in the country in defense for a reason. So I don’t think it’s gonna be as easy treading unless they just make a lot of mistakes. So I feel like Alabama wins, but it’s gonna be a close game.

Marvin Constant
They want to be the power. They want to be all things. But last time you want a championship, eight tracks ruined staff. Oh,

Unknown Speaker
you didn’t do that to him?

Unknown Speaker
That’s right.

Unknown Speaker
At your championship,

Marvin Constant
again, night t 80. Okay, what will also populate 19 at this point, your bregal. class? lecture lectric, 225. Really? Come on, man. It was 1980. And then that number is gonna stay with Georgia. Y’all ain’t gonna win a championship in the next decade. As long as Alabama is alive and breathing, you will not dominate the tide. Take this record. Bring it back, whooping that come Saturday. What happened last week?

Justin Riley
I’m talking about so it’s gonna happen. I before we go couple things. Marvin, again, tell us about your book. I was doing this this week. And I tell people how they can get their hands on it and want to do it from people to

Marvin Constant
the book is phenomenal. Man. Again, the sales have been, I’m still surprised at how many sales have actually occurred with this book. Again, I thought it will be a few sales net, like the outpouring that it is. And then to see the feedback from people, you know, because again, the book has been out now for three, four weeks. So you know, for the people who ordered it from the beginning, one guy, Jonathan, boom, he’s already dropped 13 pounds already. Nothing. Already, he’s already dropped 10 pounds. I mean, it’s like it’s fallen off from I mean, they’re just applying the basic principles in that book, because at this age 40 Plus, you know, some like that, and 40 the body operates differently at age. So in order to get the results you want, you got to take a different approach. So, you know, as simple as making a few minor adjustments, but still enjoying the things that you love in life, but you just got to make some adjustments to get your body to perform the way you want to perform.

Justin Riley
And how do we get our copy of this book,

Marvin Constant
you can go to 40 the number four zero plus strong.com 40 plus strong.com.

Justin Riley
Also listeners, you can go in the forecast dotnet we also have a link to 40 plus strong to order your copy right away. All right, Marvin key promo next week’s show that’s you know if things go right Saturday.

Unknown Speaker
Oh my god.

Marvin Constant
Well, you know, I think it’s time for that quarterbacks? Yeah. Should we talk? Yes. You know, we’ve got two of them already confirmed. We’re just waiting to hear back from a third yet it’s gonna be a quarterback special us very famous, very legendary Alabama quarterbacks. You’re not gonna want to miss this one.

Justin Riley
Not at all. Guys. If you have any questions about our next show, or for us, email us at the rollin constant show@gmail.com. All right. Any closing remarks late into this game or you feel like you’ve already covered everything you need to cover

Marvin Constant
And then it’s Georgia by mine. I mean, it’s the same Georgia football as a whole, including the state look at the Falcons have never won a championship. The dogs 1980 most people watching this don’t even know what a championship array looks like in this state, okay? They don’t even know what you know. So maybe you should come visit Tuscaloosa. And you can see where the championship rail, we have them regularly. So we don’t even have to decide what the program or the parades gonna look like. We just redo the one we use the date the year. And we just do it over again. Because you know, we do it Austin operate route is probably still has confetti on it from my last championship. But y’all know, out there, so we’re not worried at all again. 1980 Okay.

Justin Riley
All right. How can people reach you, Marvin, on all the social media platforms?

Marvin Constant
I’m gonna start with faith up next. So Eastman, constant 45? Twitter constant 451? Facebook, Marvin constant? And I’m always available 40 plus drone?

They’re available, but I don’t want to I don’t want them available yet. Don’t know why,

Justin Riley
but we want them available. And the good thing? No,

Unknown Speaker

Marvin Constant

Marvin Constant
have to keep asking much longer because I’m ambitious. I’m very I know, there’s no question about.

Justin Riley

Marvin Constant
