Steve Brown 4:12
Don’t Don’t do that. Don’t do that. Don’t do that.
Justin Riley 4:27
This is what this show is all about.
Steve Brown 4:29
Amen. Amen. So
Unknown Speaker 4:33
Justin,
Steve Brown 4:35
national champions me
Justin Riley 4:37
again and Pete golden. showed up last night that the kick this thing off. He going hey pro throw last week called and said that he was going to have a good game coaching. And looks like we made him look good or He made us look good. So
Steve Brown 4:53
let’s talk about Pete. Hey, man, man. I Marvin you probably Marvin Marvin, I’m kind of back. I got one foot off that bandwagon at peak gold and get rid of Pete Golding bandwagon. I got one foot. Why? Because he really had the defense prepared. It was all the way off until they scored and three plays. I’m like, Well, wait a minute. Let me let me let me put my feet back on this damn bandwagon. So right now, man, I don’t know what his future is at Bama man. But I’m, I’m, I’m kind of, I’m leaning towards, let them go another season and see what happens. Next. We got our whole defense back, man. And, you know, the guy should notice game now and we’re just gonna see what happens. You know,
Marvin Constant 5:37
Steve, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here. Okay.
Unknown Speaker 5:47
He
Marvin Constant 5:48
had a decent, decent game. I’ll give him that. I need to see a consistent pattern exists.
Steve Brown 5:57
Mommy, you know what? No, man. I that that, that that term about the broke clock? Uh, you are definitely right. And that was a sign that I shouldn’t have gone to steal because, you know, they got the library and steal and they got a clock on on both sides. Why was it all for them? All posad was wrong.
But yeah, man. I would I would. I would. He did a really good job on Ohio State man. I would I mean, I would give him Justin Marvin. I know Marvin, you’re not we’d like this when it comes to golden I would
Marvin Constant 6:38
give him a seven foot game. Yeah, you know what,
Steve Brown 6:41
I you know what I was gonna say, I give him a b minus.
Marvin Constant 6:46
I give him a seven out of 10 which is about the same thing.
Unknown Speaker 6:49
Because
Unknown Speaker 6:51
I was just thinking about this. Just because I felt like I felt like Ohio State was somebody that I just felt like they knew that their game plan they knew Justin fields was all they had, they knew that they they could just stop Justin fields and stop his momentum that the game would be over immediately. Just like I feel like if they were playing Clemson, it would be a way harder game for him to gameplan against Clemson it was way too easy. It’s just it feels I feel like as soon as he stopped his momentum on that first that second drive I think he had that they they got stopped like in a red zone after that drive. It was like it was it was downhill for defense. They could just easily stop them and shut them down the whole game so I gotta give him a six and a half. It was too easy for him. He could have did it. Anybody could have did I think Marvin could have got there and coach those guys to beat. You know what though?
Steve Brown 7:40
You know what? Let me hold on. Let me say this. Let me say this man. I’m looking at the whole brand of football right now. I’m looking at I’m looking at everything I do. If the way Bama was playing last night, and the way Clemson got exposed, if Bama had played Clemson they would have probably be Clemson worse. Bam. Bam, Bam. Oh was Bama was all focus.
Marvin Constant 8:08
If you notice Justin says he was grimacing the whole night he was playing a game. Yeah, he was hurt.
Steve Brown 8:15
He was grimacing after I think it was Dylan Moses and and what’s the freshman name? Hit him at the same time.
Unknown Speaker 8:25
Now and let me say this too. When everybody talk this Trey sermon tracer tracer
Steve Brown 8:38
bionic knee
Unknown Speaker 8:40
boys they were planned for some real life jobs I did that was that was real right there.
Steve Brown 8:45
Yeah. So so you know I mean, adjusted. I must say this after watching this game. They have to put this this time to be about Ohio State being an SEC team. But they from what they know they are not. They are not they do. Let me tell you some all night long, y’all. Ohio State was taking time off because the players were hurt. Not one bad player went down as far as being hurt. Now. Of course, that’s the thing we understand. But not one player from Bama went down. The cramps get rugen rolled over. They even got desperate and tried to drag the twist Nadia Harris’s ankle.
Unknown Speaker 9:30
Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 9:31
they
Marvin Constant 9:34
beat him you try to hurt him.
Justin Riley 9:37
But from a physical standpoint, that’s where we won the battle the entire night. And that it really wasn’t doubt at all during the entire game, even when Smitty went down and and they scored early in the second half just they couldn’t match our physicality and for people to promote that, you know, the talents the same and like you said, there’s a sec you know, the physicality is definitely Not not there look at Christian bar more there was no answer for the IOC by look like him on that side of the ball
Marvin Constant 10:09
do what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it. He put some money in his pocket
Steve Brown 10:19
I’m gonna say this what what made me convinced and you got the picture behind you. what’s what’s the what’s the tackles name he’s about to leave What’s his name? And look at that picture behind you this arm is bigger than Nick Saban. Wait
You know what some of y’all may beg to differ but I’m gonna tell you who really looked good last night man brown Robbins Brian was killed
Justin Riley 10:54
on hard can run hard he
Steve Brown 11:00
he needs to come back for another year.
Marvin Constant 11:04
If he was smart that’s what he would do he would come because you know Nazis leaving and going
Justin Riley 11:09
that road is gonna be crowded next year though.
Steve Brown 11:12
No one but Brian Robinson is gonna beat the back. He has to be it is no nuts. I understand. We got some young talent. But Brian Robinson is that guy, he is that guy.
Marvin Constant 11:25
And a you go ahead and make a decision. You know, do you roll the dice and you come back? The option is though, so
Justin Riley 11:34
I’m gonna bring up a point. We’ve asked this question the past few weeks. Did the playoff committee get it right? To be honest, it didn’t matter because this entire season it was Bama versus everyone else it was basically Bama and everybody else was fighting for second place. What do you think really called a separation?
Marvin Constant 11:52
timeout? Let me ask you this question first.
I want to start out by saying something. Most people on this planet we’ll never understand what it feels like to play seven or eight sec games, let alone an all sec schedule. That in itself is brutal. I think back to when I was playing you got Tennessee one week old Mr. Neck Florida the next day you had little off to you we played Houston here now Southern Miss here now that’s when you recuperating. There was no recuperation weeks this season. He played
Unknown Speaker 12:33
sec schools
Marvin Constant 12:35
unheard of to go undefeated and you still took out Notre Dame and you still took out Ohio State. I’ma give them greatest team because football history hands down. And I don’t care whose committee had to put in there with them. They can put the Falcons in there with a
Steve Brown 12:55
marker mark. I know you being sarcastic
Unknown Speaker 12:59
man right over here.
Unknown Speaker 13:02
Think they would have they would have been
Justin Riley 13:07
going anyway.
Steve Brown 13:09
Amen. Honestly, man. I I was kind of i was i was so into that game. Marvin. I promise you it’s been it’s been a year since I play football. But I know I gotta go to you with this one. When he was coming out in a tunnel Did you not have butterflies?
Unknown Speaker 13:25
Oh yeah.
Marvin Constant 13:28
smoke them balls.
Unknown Speaker 13:29
They will. They will pop. Yeah,
Steve Brown 13:33
amen. I had I had butterflies knowing that one go get in the game.
Justin Riley 13:39
Man what got me
Unknown Speaker 13:41
ready though?
Justin Riley 13:42
Yeah, well, God what got me was when Landon Dickerson let him out of that tunnel. fully dressed out there that was an incredible moment.
Steve Brown 13:50
That was the most the most class act ever seen. Nick Saban let him get his final snap.
Justin Riley 13:56
Yeah, that was that was perfect. Well, what do you think man? What what separates us from the rest of the pack this entire year?
Unknown Speaker 14:05
I honestly just think this I’m sorry. I thought
Justin Riley 14:11
I said d i said d
Unknown Speaker 14:14
i think honestly that they’re just it’s a different breed of athlete that comes to Alabama. Those guys are just more hungrier they’re just they’re just more ready I just feel like Nick Saban has them more ready than any other team that they go against. I didn’t run Clemson even stand against I didn’t even think Clemson could even play with them this year. I just knew Alabama was on a whole nother whole nother field a whole nother planet this year. I would like to see a bigger playoff I would like to see like more like an 18 playoff that way you know we could see Alabama Clemson knock it down if they do so or a little team like a Texas or something comes in and makes their way in to make it more interesting because other other than that I don’t see Alabama being beat for another three or four years. That seems just too good.
Unknown Speaker 14:57
Excuse me,
Unknown Speaker 14:57
man. Yeah
Unknown Speaker 15:02
Don’t just keep talking
Unknown Speaker 15:07
three times this year.
Steve Brown 15:16
I promise. Amen. I do have one concern. Yeah. That concern to me and Marvin, I don’t know. JOHN Nietzsche has to be he has to hold on to the ball bro. I noticed when somebody is really covering him tight he drops the ball he dropped the ball he but it’s like like you can be draped over a Jalen white or you can be draped over a Smith you can be dragged over to our our our tight end what’s his name on a young guy Billy hybrid wire received because he’s a real big Yeah, he man passes me
Marvin Constant 16:15
Well, you gotta realize to a lot of his playing time came to season when water got hurt. So, you know, it’s not like he was getting a lot of reps early in the year. So you know, maybe that was it. You know, it’s a timing issue. We’ll see. But you know, now, you know, he has to step up because with the vontae leaving nicely leaving Mack leaving, you know, it’s next Man Up next, you know, who’s gonna step up and fill these roles because the year the train doesn’t stop, you know, are we doing gas in it and keep it moving?
Steve Brown 16:47
And I I’m hearing through the grapevine and Reagan. I mean, you talk about talking about Smith, you talk about a waddle and the rest of them, but from what I understand Bama got some dog receivers coming up by the step.
Marvin Constant 17:03
Yeah. And they signed an amazing group of receivers.
Steve Brown 17:11
Okay, okay, so so so this is my another concern. I got. Marvin, you probably know about this guy. And you probably do too.
Unknown Speaker 17:21
But
Unknown Speaker 17:23
this office coordinator, he is he is gonna start as he pretty good.
Unknown Speaker 17:27
Bill. Bill O’Brien.
Justin Riley 17:29
He’s one of the Yeah, you mentioned. Yeah.
Marvin Constant 17:32
You know who below right? We used to coach for the Patriots. He was the Texans head coach who just got fired from Texas. Yeah,
Steve Brown 17:38
I know. I heard what I’m saying is he is he? He’s the man. But then again, I’ve never heard him. I mean, I know he was a terrible I know he’s a terrible head coach. But I’m just saying, you know,
Marvin Constant 17:52
this is what I’m gonna say. When he was in New England you had Tom Brady so that’s it that you can’t judge somebody off what they coach excuse as a coach and Tom Brady cuz he’s on the field doing he wanted anyway. So you got to do much.
Justin Riley 18:06
Yeah, not a whole lot. innovation happens there.
Unknown Speaker 18:09
Exactly.
Marvin Constant 18:11
He gonna make the appropriate calls.
Steve Brown 18:15
But you know what, but you gotta understand this too, though. You get him coaching kids from Bama. So it’s the same thing. Cuz I mean, you got you got you got like a man with a big basket of talent. Now you think he’s gonna get those same results in Texas.
Marvin Constant 18:38
About Sark is he shows you. He’s that mind. He knows how to create the matchups that he wants. And he has never shown you his full playbook. You think about it. The one plate when you see him divide, take. He went in motion came deep in the backfield. And then he turned around. Have you seen how you know? No, you see sock pull out plays in this game you ain’t seen all year. So he’s great at creating the matchup that he wants, you know, he gets guys in space, and he gets his guy in space. There ain’t nothing you can do that. So, you know, he might not have the weapons that he wants to Texas now, but he’ll get them. And when he gets him, he knows how to use them. And the one thing I said when I when I seen he was going to Texas, I said yeah, we’re gonna see him again real soon.
Justin Riley 19:29
Yeah, we opened up with him in two years.
Unknown Speaker 19:32
Do we?
Justin Riley 19:33
I think we do.
Unknown Speaker 19:35
We open up we opened up a Miami. Um, we opened we opened then we opened up with him the following year.
Unknown Speaker 19:44
Yeah, was that game it?
Justin Riley 19:47
I think it’s gonna be in Texas.
Unknown Speaker 19:50
Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 19:52
I see. You want to go to Austin.
Unknown Speaker 20:00
I love it. And trust me, I’ve
Unknown Speaker 20:03
never been
Steve Brown 20:08
a barber and I’m praying the same thing. Hopefully what we do see him in Austin? Hopefully we’ll have a better DC that’s putting like this. We have a better coordinator or golden and probably, you know, we’ll see. I’ll give her one more
Justin Riley 20:28
free road to step in. That’s what I’m that’s what I’m thinking.
Unknown Speaker 20:32
And one of the biggest things,
Marvin Constant 20:34
Freddie Roach
Unknown Speaker 20:40
What is it? I know, when you say he, you he might know what you’re saying.
Marvin Constant 20:47
Red is a good coach, though, man.
Justin Riley 20:48
He’s real good coach.
Unknown Speaker 20:50
Yeah, he’s never been a coordinator though.
Marvin Constant 20:54
I put it like this. The reason why I’ll say Fred, it will probably be successful at it because Fred played middle linebacker, when you play middle linebacker, you have to truly understand the game of football. Because not only are you setting that front and adjusting that front, you got to adjust that coverage behind you. Somebody go in motion, you got to make the appropriate checks and audibles you got less than a second to make them call on the field. So you know, middle linebacker, basically quarterback, so the defense man, so your mind has to process information so fast. So you know, I think Fred, it would be great at defensive coordinator just from that standpoint of he, he had he played live, but he had to see it and adjust on the fly in game time. Right? Because I’m gonna be honest with you, man. So I think I made him I might have made one or two mistakes, you know, early on making adjustments and the way Ellis and rounds are taught to me, I learned.
Steve Brown 21:57
So So speaking of linebacker, the I think Dylan Moses coming back? Nope. I think he
Unknown Speaker 22:05
should he?
Marvin Constant 22:06
Well, here’s the thing you got to understand for him to come back. It will be to improve his drops his draft stuff, but if he has a loss of value insurance policy, so based upon where he was projected to go before he got hurt, wherever he gets drafted, that loss of value policy is gonna make up that difference and pay him a nice amount of money. So it’s not beneficial for him to come back with that loss of value policy.
Unknown Speaker 22:31
Oh, okay.
Marvin Constant 22:34
Yeah, so if he gets drafted in the second or third round, because he was projected to be in the first round, so that loss of value policy kicks in, and it pays him a nice amount of money to make up that difference on the money that he loves.
Justin Riley 22:47
We got the host the Paul finebaum. Show. I mean, Steven in smithian What’s up, Steve? Hey,
Unknown Speaker 22:56
you’re wrong behind you, man.
Steve Brown 22:59
Yeah. Thank you. Hey, man. Hey, the reason Steven is late because he was down in Miami drinking all night long. Celebrate.
Justin Riley 23:12
Check out his Instagram.
Steve Brown 23:16
Snap. I see man I must. I must say I must say this man. I’ve been on. You know, since since the playoffs things started this year. I’ve been I’ve been checking out the interviews and stuff like that man. From from this, the reporters and reporters. And I must say, Man, you’ve been competitive and you’ve been down to doing your thing, man, I have no respect for you, man. I’m like when I hear that voice. You know?
You know, we’ve got no call. I just want to tell you, man, I am a fan and I will say that a lot, man.
Justin Riley 24:17
I am. You’ve been doing your thing, brother man proud.
Stephen M. Smith 24:21
Hey, Steve. I appreciate the love man from you. Oh,
Steve Brown 24:26
by the crowd. Oh, DJ. Hey, I guess I guess I guess D Cole left. I guess he went to pawn and chains.
Justin Riley 24:45
He has to pay for his minutes to keep going on the phone call. Oh.
Stephen M. Smith 24:52
Hey, Justin. Hey. So that background of Alex and other What do you not recognize Alex was trying to keep saving from crime
Justin Riley 25:05
Yeah Yeah.
Marvin Constant 25:08
Did y’all see Nick while he’s fighting cry?
Unknown Speaker 25:11
Yeah cry
Stephen M. Smith 25:16
like know what was trying to get him to stop.
Justin Riley 25:20
He almost choked up a couple years ago and Jalen won that game that’s a C championship in that postgame interview,
Unknown Speaker 25:26
I go on Oh man.
Steve Brown 25:36
Amen. Know what Justin and Steven Marvin you I don’t know if you feel this way man the way Alabama played last night versus the way Ohio State played. It seems to me that Ohio station even better now.
Marvin Constant 25:54
I’ll say this Alabama was a team on a mission last night they will they will ready to finish what they started. I think Ohio State came into the game they thought they had a chance into their first play when they see certainly get hit and didn’t they realize we in the wrong place. We probably should have stayed
Stephen M. Smith 26:10
that way was when Christian Bombo was breathing down Justin fields Nick. And Justin fields got
Steve Brown 26:24
away. Got one Dang. Amen. You know, again, Stephen, that was your play. To me the play that C minute the whole game is when Trey sermon tried to run and they blast it and I like you know what? They read it when I saw it. I’m like they read it. Yeah.
Stephen M. Smith 26:50
Ben Davis had two tackles.
Unknown Speaker 26:53
Yes, sir.
Steve Brown 27:03
A man as soon as we made that tackle, Justin feels not so much
Marvin Constant 27:15
quarterback knock you on your ass.
Steve Brown 27:18
Amen. To that I was proud of to man once this kid named from Ohio State I’ve been hearing all week isn’t olavi Yeah, Chris wasn’t a factor even the factory Oh
Marvin Constant 27:34
hey, Justin. Hey Blake is trying to get in but he says some about his software won’t let him in and some is there another way to get him in? I don’t know.
Unknown Speaker 27:43
Not
Justin Riley 27:46
late blight you boy likes him these these back Ah, man so that that zoom link that we sent him won’t work.
Stephen M. Smith 28:01
boy got that Boost Mobile man.
Justin Riley 28:04
Yeah, the bar wants these flip phones.
Unknown Speaker 28:07
Yeah, I got a couple over here.
Unknown Speaker 28:12
What kind of fun he got iPhone. He got
Unknown Speaker 28:18
did he download that? You got that? It just says it’s software it isn’t big enough
Justin Riley 28:34
to delete the Pornhub file
Marvin Constant 28:43
Mr. Steven M. Smith from touchdown Alabama magazine.
Unknown Speaker 28:48
Okay, what’s up, man?
Unknown Speaker 28:50
What’s going on? What’s going on?
Unknown Speaker 28:54
Guys
Steve Brown 28:57
Dee Dee Steven Danna doing stuff that you only eventually do man he wants to even ended up in
Justin Riley 29:13
a post he posted on his only fans this morning. So if your
promo code touchdown Bama.
Steve Brown 29:28
Oh, question so question. And I’m asking this as a fan. Okay, so what’s what’s what’s the goal, man? What’s the goal, Steven, for you.
Stephen M. Smith 29:42
Don’t reach the goal for me? Well, two areas, two areas either, hey, we take this thing to the ESPN or CBS or B. We go to the west coast Fs one.
Marvin Constant 29:57
I got a question for you though. Are you Taking me Justin you’re Steve whiskey
Stephen M. Smith 30:06
all be in the car. The car passes.
More control. more control over this man. Okay.
Justin Riley 30:22
Real quick. Hey Steve. Steve Smith. You just got a comment from the audience. They say that Stephen m Smith is legit. I have to agree. Yeah.
Stephen M. Smith 30:32
I appreciate that. I
Unknown Speaker 30:33
really do.
Stephen M. Smith 30:36
So stay stay bros a fan of mine, but I’m legit. I appreciate that. man.
Unknown Speaker 30:44
Hey man, I watched this show night before last man to one side of his glasses foamed up I’m like this
Justin Riley 31:07
that’s when you know he’s about to unload the knowledge on his man when it gets
Stephen M. Smith 31:19
we might have to have a show where which side of Stephens glasses fogs up first.
Steve Brown 31:28
So, Steven, so Steven was so so um, how do you how do you see Bama next year? We are reloading what was going on?
Stephen M. Smith 31:37
I see Bama. Good next year. The one question is gonna be the future. Is it Bryce younger? Is it Paul ties? That’s the question. Come on, man.
Unknown Speaker 31:48
Hold on a
Marvin Constant 31:52
bit before you try to not know what apologize and go to high school Steven M. Smith.
Unknown Speaker 32:00
Who is his grandfather?
Unknown Speaker 32:02
Paul bear black
Unknown Speaker 32:03
bear.
Unknown Speaker 32:05
Amen. Amen. Amen. No, no, no, no, I’m not.
Unknown Speaker 32:09
I’m not saying that. from a standpoint. I’m saying. Sometimes politics plays a role.
Steve Brown 32:15
You know, I’m saying is a Mercedes. The reason I’m a Nick Saban fan, not because he’s winning is because he let politics play a role on the field. And
Stephen M. Smith 32:37
now Steve, not that this is the reason why guys spring ball is gonna be huge this year. Like we need spring we really do need spring because there are so many questions that spring balls can be able to answer for us.
Unknown Speaker 32:54
Yeah, right. I get I get now another another question because I know you’ve got on and
Steve Brown 33:03
what about what about this this this new offensive coordinator possibly O’Brien Is he good? Or what? What do you think?
Stephen M. Smith 33:11
Oh, brought abroad abroad can run the office. He just can’t run the whole time. It’s like, you can be a good coordinator. But just because you’re a great coordinator don’t mean you’re gonna be a great head coach. To me, I feel like we’re O’Brian messed up. He was trying to be the coach and the GM bro you don’t do that.
Steve Brown 33:34
But is he gonna be good or bad? That’s what I’m saying.
Stephen M. Smith 33:38
He gonna be good for Bama. Especially if Sark lead that playbook to him. Because he saw exactly that playbook on the front desk. Oh, Brian, good to go. Yeah, but
Marvin Constant 33:50
you know what? You say if he leaves a playbook here’s the thing I’m gonna say about that though. Everybody got access to the same place? Oh man, but every time I get
nothing, man, cuz I got the same place everybody else good. But if for some reason. Magic gave up man.
Steve Brown 34:13
You know what I mean?
Unknown Speaker 34:16
In real life
Unknown Speaker 34:18
is not good. A man that’s different.
Marvin Constant 34:29
I want double exhale, gloves. So when I’m holding a PlayStation controller
Steve Brown 34:37
I see you but I can’t even relate. I’m still on techmo
Unknown Speaker 34:43
Joe Jackson.
Stephen M. Smith 34:46
Okay, okay. How many first round? This is Bama getting this draft.
Unknown Speaker 34:53
I’m gonna go with seven. You got seven. I’m gonna go with seven.
Unknown Speaker 34:58
I got seven, two. Yeah,
Marvin Constant 35:01
he does. A lot of people. Okay, you got you got Baltimore. You got certain. You got leatherwood on offense. You got Smitty. You got nije you got Matt, but I’m gonna say, Dylan Moses.
Justin Riley 35:17
Landon Dickerson to.
Steve Brown 35:19
And water What about water? Yeah, well, yeah.
Unknown Speaker 35:22
I mean, it could be eight or nine.
Stephen M. Smith 35:26
I got I got I got a bad feeling No. Damn scouts go nitpick water down to the bone. But I think he’ll
Marvin Constant 35:34
be fine by the time
Justin Riley 35:36
that comes around. That’s just usual draft chatter. Come draft day, man. He’ll he’ll still go top five. Hey, man,
Steve Brown 35:41
I personally, y’all, I’m telling you. I think Dylan Moses gave me the inside scoop. I thought maybe he should come back and improve his draft status. But definitely Brian Robbins. Brian Roberts should be the man next year because honestly to me, he ran last night he ran better than not he was running hard.
Stephen M. Smith 36:09
But the one thing the one thing with that is Steve and Brian Robertson comes back. And then Keenan Robinson comes back with him. You’re looking at seven backs in your backfield. Yeah, which one of those guys is gonna hit that transfer portal? Because you also got this five star and come are we in here from Texas? Yeah.
Steve Brown 36:34
Bryan Bryan has the experience, Brian. You know what you’re getting and Brian. And it was it. It should be his team. If he comes back next year. It should be his name.
Stephen M. Smith 36:52
Now, I would, I would love to see a dynamic duo of Robertson and Trey Sanders. I mean, believe me, I do. I would love to them to. And then you throw Jace McClellan as like, yo, change up into
Unknown Speaker 37:07
mean forget Trey Sanders.
Steve Brown 37:11
Amen. Trey. Trey Sanders. He showed me nothing.
Stephen M. Smith 37:17
I’m telling you. He had a good game against Mississippi State and then the car accident happen.
Justin Riley 37:35
Boys jumping on
Unknown Speaker 37:40
here. What’s going on?
Unknown Speaker 37:54
Yeah, man.
Unknown Speaker 37:58
champs?
Unknown Speaker 38:00
Yeah. Happy about them for sure.
Justin Riley 38:06
I see one thing I want to ask guys last night when the biggest thing stood out to me. No matter what was thrown away. The team responded. We lost Jordan battle. The vontae went down. Dickerson was out malikai was out. Water was limited. It didn’t matter. Talk about how we were able to pull out that victory as a team. Amen.
Steve Brown 38:25
I think I think to me, again, when when they came out of the tunnel, I saw that they were already locked in. And then what really proved to me and I knew they were going to win, is that first hit on Trey sermon. Not only that, you got guys going, uh, trying to go 100% hurt like Jalen waddle? That right? There was amazing. And I think if, if nothing else, a team body and just on that, you know, I’m saying. So.
Stephen M. Smith 38:57
Now to me, to me, without dying about this game was this was one of the first teams where the coaches getting other jobs, didn’t waste that team by for example, the 2016 defense will always be known as the best defense one of the best defenses in Alabama history. But because of, you know, Lane Kiffin getting fired and the distraction of that that wasted that team. Of course, the 2018 offense was to join us murderball on offense, but all the coaches getting other jobs kind of wasted that team. So yeah, I give a lot of credit to Steve Sarkeesian and they made the course they locked in. They stayed the course and then bind all this distraction. And Steve Sarkeesian was in his bag all night long, so I get the respect for having a full focus. But
Steve Brown 39:52
you know what, me piggybacking on that one? I ain’t gonna lie to you. I lost all respect in the world for Loxley. But what he did when when we play Clemson and he didn’t have been prepared, I, you know, I loved him as a coach, man. But when I saw that when he got the job done like he just kind of quit, and all of the rest of them follow suit. That, that that was embarrassing, man. It’s like they just kind of like turn it back. So bear with me and I didn’t appreciate that. Well, Justin,
Marvin Constant 40:21
Steven Steve marisco has a studio session at 830 so we don’t have much more time with him. But it’s man seeing some kicks out today underwear
Unknown Speaker 40:42
All right.
Unknown Speaker 40:48
All right.
Unknown Speaker 40:57
MOSFETs Yeah,
Justin Riley 41:23
I was gonna ask you man, how much of your own personal experiences and what you what you’ve gone through in your life that you put into your into your work?
Unknown Speaker 41:31
Man a lot. A lot of it comes from sports and football especially just knowing that it’s hard work. It’s not easy, man. It’s still entertainment. It’s still it’s still moving and you have to get up constantly like right now I can’t stop there’s always something something going on and something that you have to be doing so just that hard work and that that patience and knowing that you have to always practice to perfect your craft that came a lot from sports. that taught me a lot right there just always getting up getting ready to get it done and not not complaining and just getting it done. Before you
Marvin Constant 42:04
go, before you go you gotta tell people what’s next for you. You gotta tell us what’s
Unknown Speaker 42:11
new music
Unknown Speaker 42:12
give them what you got.
Unknown Speaker 42:16
Did you just say me? Hey,
Justin Riley 42:25
I see you I was playing some music a little bit earlier today real loud. man made my neighbor get pregnant
Unknown Speaker 42:34
and they
Justin Riley 42:34
blame me for D Come on man. You got put
Unknown Speaker 42:37
a warning on them song
Unknown Speaker 42:41
a warning on them songs man.
Unknown Speaker 42:46
came over here mad at me.
Unknown Speaker 42:55
I apologize in advance. Even sixes so I find that right now. I bet you know I’ve been on marvins book right now. I’m trying to get my body right. Now Michelle
Justin Riley 43:35
came to Biloxi with you with Chris Brown then right and Yeah, same thing. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 43:50
it was. Oh, man. I want to thank you.
Unknown Speaker 44:15
What’s up?
Unknown Speaker 44:17
What’s up?
Justin Riley 44:20
Steve recovers. We got a caller who wants to come in? ask a few questions. What’s going on? Welcome.
Unknown Speaker 44:28
Lee Brown. What do we go? This is Victor. Oh, Joe. How are you? Man? I just want to say congratulations to Alabama. I know you got the whole crew on there. I was congratulations for another national championship. And if it wasn’t First of all, I don’t think Ohio State your been their number one. Number two. I think you still would have beat whoever was there but I just don’t think Ohio They are Notre Dame should have been there. And number three, if it wasn’t for those unlikely mistakes to Alabama made it early, they would have gotten them out by like 70. These Any thoughts?
Steve Brown 45:16
I’m leading with that I’m with that all day. And I think I think Marvin and again, we were texting or dming each other as far as how good the defense look and as soon as I hit scene, or he hits a score they look pretty good early on.
Unknown Speaker 45:39
It was it were unstop I like it, they didn’t faze him with the mistakes or anything. And then the point being is they did score off a two touchdown golf, four turnovers, yet they still came down and dominate. I mean, that’s amazing. So if you just take those turnovers, the score 14 points off the turnovers is a lot of the game would have been crushed. They would have killed them even more than they did that was my point.
Steve Brown 46:10
When when the guy stripped out quarterback any made the fumble. Did you notice? like Oh, we got to turn over next play like crap on y’all anyway.
Unknown Speaker 46:34
But did you hear that that saving coached him mentally to get out of constant I’m sure, you know. Better than any of us on the phone. I’m on the phone, but they said that saving you know, he’s still a kid. Don’t forget that he did exactly what he said unsaved he was a gladiator I even tweeted that out. But but they also mentioned how safe it started how to coach him up. Because there was times when Matt Jones would make mistakes he would get too down on himself. He was fired up to control that emotion.
Marvin Constant 47:12
Well, you know, playing quarterback, it’s a difficult position, but we got Blake. Blake the dress Yeah, we
Justin Riley 47:21
have one of the best quarterbacks in Alabama history. With us more of Victor Mr. Blake Sims how he said several records for us got to this to our first playoff appearance and also has two rings. So if you got a question about the quarterback position, he is the man that has
Unknown Speaker 47:40
great talent but if mentally you’re not there you can be defensive back for a touchdown. You gotta forget you gotta have a short memory in a quarterback. It’s difficult as a young kid Yeah, you
Unknown Speaker 47:52
gotta you gotta have a short term memory when it comes to play any position on the field. It doesn’t matter this quarterback of this kicker is a sinner what whatever and I think one thing that Bellman showed that we have leaders like we really did, you gotta have coaches but it showed that the the leaders on that team could show that team because when the once a smooth got hurt, I can. I can say right now a lot of fans got scared. But Mary Jones, Kevin Mack Jones and Devin Mosley and other leaders count that team together. And they had in detail like you said, when they came out of the tunnel, they had one person they was doing for players that got hurt that were able to play in the game. Maybe there’s a brotherhood, you know, everybody wants to do it for each other. And Mary Jones he understood you know, he learned from Jalen he learned from and when you got guys ahead of you like that sometimes you gotta say one thing for you to
Marvin Constant 48:49
let me ask you this Blake. How easy is his job when he has the type of weapons that he has?
Unknown Speaker 49:00
is easy.
Marvin Constant 49:02
Or how difficult is it considering you have to spread the wealth with all those weapons
Unknown Speaker 49:13
pros was you get graded by the pro by you playing college and
Unknown Speaker 49:19
million dollar guy I’m sorry guys. No, no you
Unknown Speaker 49:25
don’t say that. When like Mike Jones This is first year playing so like he had to come in there. He had to he had to earn the guys shirts. He had to come in and show them that they cared that that there’s not gonna be a beat beat Miss from what happened last year. He came in and did that. I see him working in the summer. how hard he worked in the summer. I could tell that he was gonna have a good year before the season even started. I was tweeting that. I believe that Mike Jones you know when you got guys that like like when I had Mark Cooper, Nanda Lamar Guzman’s first read that gives me a A lot more confidence when I get in the game because I know I got somebody that’s gonna be wide open. And then I had Chris Jones and Dan white too. And I knew they have my back also, and you know, just all about being at one accord and being there for each other.
Steve Brown 50:15
But you know what?
Unknown Speaker 50:18
I want to I want to harp on something, you said, each position has to have a short term memory. And that
Unknown Speaker 50:25
is so true. The cause but
Steve Brown 50:28
how about when I was in high school? I kept getting the same memory because I kept getting he made me remember some shit. So
Unknown Speaker 50:56
often stop pointing out you
Steve Brown 51:08
need to give me an alphabet.
Unknown Speaker 51:13
Right. Right. And then and then you could just tell like another good culture point a good point to put out there on the coaches and, you know, even the players that you know, big dog like, you know, when you were starting that safety, you know, you had you had the youngest abunda you you had the underclass, a buddy, you had to teach them for just in case you got hurt, they were prepared, and they knew what they had to do. So I want to give big ups to the underclassmen last night because they stepped up in a lot of positions.
Unknown Speaker 51:49
third string players This is Victor together and that could probably start in another in another big school. You guys got a great, great, congratulations. I mean, that’s the number one piece but I think it was this globally. As interesting. As you guys talk about your quarterback holds it up could tell because from my perspective, I rarely related to defense, you know what I mean? And they become such an offensive powerhouse. That it’s been an impressive change, especially for a safe inside coach.
Unknown Speaker 52:25
Yeah, last night just showed me I’ll be smiling for the next decade.
Steve Brown 52:35
The question what another question that came up? I mean, Ohio State shouldn’t
Unknown Speaker 52:43
be listening. It’s not about who who better they just didn’t deserve to be in it you got to be in it to win it period. Right so I just feel that Texas a&m or someone else should have got a shot in they’re not going to know and getting in there and that’s why we this is probably the most to take because you guys Justin and concepts that I really ruin it for Alabama, but I’m rooting for them to crush them because they had no right playing in that championship. They didn’t deserve the right to be in the fight. That’s all I’m saying. So you got to beat Texas a&m seven eight and not that it is what it is. I would have lived with it but I wanted Ohio State to be crushed there was no reason them nor Notre Dame should have been.
Steve Brown 53:44
I just noticed calling from a 305 air you call we come in Miami is that? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 54:04
You always come for a second secondary. Most of them are from Florida.
Marvin Constant 54:20
Yeah, not most.
Unknown Speaker 54:25
I knew there was too many Bama guys, so I figured I was safer to say most. A lot of players
Unknown Speaker 54:45
like to come play for the best.
Unknown Speaker 54:49
It is what it is man. Doesn’t everybody. They all and you want to play against the bat, right? I’m sure Bama can always get the best though.
Marvin Constant 55:15
I got a question for you though Blake. Some memorable games against LSU.
Unknown Speaker 55:23
Yes.
Marvin Constant 55:26
What was your favorite moment from that Alabama LSU series when you were in school, because I can think back to TJ catching the dot pass and going to school. So many memories. So what was it for you?
Unknown Speaker 55:42
I gotta go in mind man, the touchdown pass the failure out the pig face to defend you. I cannot say that year, a lot of people doubted us. They thought that Alabama was falling off because we have long we had lost a lot of first round pigs. And you know, we dominated a lot that year. And we thereby thought that that was gonna be the time because everybody wanted to knock us off man because they got tired of us being number one. And when we’re not even as championship games, and I think that’s when we showed our identity. That’s when we create identity. And we show that everybody who was in that touchdown pass show that a lot of people what our office would do as well when kids in
Steve Brown 56:25
late, late, late. Let me say this to man, I must say we gotta go. One thing that I really loved about the way you play, it was your scrambling ability. Now you had a rocket. But what made you become a fan?
Unknown Speaker 56:42
And you’re like, heading out of bounds and it takes over you take another 20 yards. I thought that was my I tried
Unknown Speaker 56:59
michael vick man, I give
Unknown Speaker 57:03
him a lot.
Unknown Speaker 57:05
Yeah, man Michael. Michael making big now. I don’t know if y’all remember when the Texas and us USC had a run that touchdown at the end when the game is over. And I went and I scored the winning touchdown.
Justin Riley 57:28
I was about to ask about that game. But that is definitely a career game. Can you talk a little bit about that about the atmosphere in Bryant, Denny stadium.
Unknown Speaker 57:45
That game was big man because a lot of our love our players was hurt. And a lot of people that know that Cooper had missed the game, that game before the arbor game because he had a knee injury from Mississippi State. And so we was like, who’s kind of trying to figure out all we were preparing for the game was trying to see what we can do if qoocam play if he was able to perform the way he needed to. And, you know, did I tell my third cake man, everybody was just like, you know what you’re going to do? Are you going to go in there and take over the game like you’re supposed to and man when when everybody says every athlete has a time when they they reach that tunnel vision. I think that was my time I reached my tunnel vision. I had number of tunnel vision. I can’t hear nobody in the stadium. I like to see was crimson and, you know, my t hat my bag and we just went got it.
Stephen M. Smith 58:45
I gotta ask this question because he brought up a lot of good points here. You had Lane Kiffin as the offensive coordinator to where if anything went wrong, kids were being like so look at me. I got you look at me. How important is it for a quarterback to hide that offensive coordinator or that play caller that really understands him? Because just like you had that were Kiffin. I feel like that was Artesia.
Unknown Speaker 59:14
Yeah, it all goes with the communication, you know, the, the relationship, the quarterback and the coach have with each other, and just really being comfortable to talk to each other about a lot of things. And that’s what, that’s a great thing that everybody don’t understand about cost saving, like when he comes to visit your house. Well, he don’t care if you in the biggest trenches of the world, the baddest neighborhood the best looking neighborhood, he wants to go in your he wants to go in your home, he wants to sit in your home talk to you. So he can see how he can coach you. Because if you’re not a player, if you’re a player that don’t like to be yelled at. I’m not gonna yell at you because I’m not gonna get the best out of you. And the way you learn that is by learning learning the player and that’s what they would do. I think that’s what Coach Saban teaches his coaches because I can say a lot of coaches don’t love Alabama, as going to other schools doing big things.
Justin Riley 1:00:14
Like we got a question from the audience. It’s actually from nudy. He wants to be to ask you about the summer camp when y’all killed everybody and Bama ball.
Unknown Speaker 1:00:23
Oh, yeah, man. Oh, yeah. Everybody don’t know. But like, even time time Matthews there, the honey badger. He was there. But nudie Jerry Williams always was on the team. And we went out there and we went crazy random to like media 60 yard bomb. And I never liked seeing somebody move and knew the size. And this to see his ability and everything. When he went up to get that ball. I was like, Yeah, I bury me and save him. Look at him the same time was like, yeah, we bought a Windows we cover championships.
Justin Riley 1:01:03
That’s what’s up, man. kind of sticking with you, man. We’ve been talking about how everyone had to wait their turn. And what a great story that was. But you did that way before these guys came on board. I’d like you to talk to dive into your journey. You know, you had to face doubts, waiting. And then Jake Coker comes in. Yeah, you overcame all of that and set all these records. Can you talk about that your journey?
Unknown Speaker 1:01:31
We always say, you know, be prepared. We are your numbers call. And you know, I had a lot of ups and downs. But one thing we we knew how to do Alabama was overcome adversity. And, you know, growing up, my family always said your character is everything. always walk around, just show love to everybody. And by me doing that, you know, oh, that guy. I never asked no questions. I lay a god moving my feet in my hands to to the best that he could and gave him the glory when I lose. And I had great teammates. You know, Newton, he was a he was a great example. that kept me going. When I wanted to give up. He kept me going Jake Coker, Jared Williams, I can give you a lot of names that as he gave me the courage to keep going. And my main thing I want to build on the field with the guys that I came in with, I want to get out there and play with them at least once. And, you know, I always knew I had the ability. I know I can go out there and get it. I knew I just had to. I just had in the chapter the right way. And I worked my tail off, man. I feel like I believe everything. deserve everything that I have received at this point in my life and I can’t complain about nothing.
Marvin Constant 1:02:56
That’s the reason why you chose. Thank you Newton for the love brother. Blade. I got a question for you though. Ray Kiffin is quite the character. So please tell me what was it like playing for Lane Kiffin because, you know, when he
Unknown Speaker 1:03:19
hands up?
Marvin Constant 1:03:24
What was that like playing for him?
Unknown Speaker 1:03:28
It was fun man. He was able to make the transition of what was happening at that time, Alabama, he was able to, you know, help kasavin transition as well. And he has his connection with the players with big man and want to play with him and seeing what he was capable of doing. And us being in that meet that meet room watching him with a mat and Reggie Bush seeing the things that he was doing with him. And then we know he had kidney injury as somebody that kind of symbolize Reggie Bush. So it was just when you see your coast come in, and he backs up what he’s saying. It was like you just got to ride with him. And it was good to be there. And me and coach Kevin had a great relationship. You know, he almost got me to go to Tennessee back in 2010. So when I first saw him walking our complex, I was smiling already because I knew what we can do.
Marvin Constant 1:04:23
Well, you know one thing I will say man, when you referenced the name Kenyan Drake, I will say Drake is one of the most underrated running backs to come out of Alabama. People don’t give him enough credit for the body of work and the things he did while he was at Alabama. When I say all of the skills, man. He was my favorite runningback hands down, man. So I just wish people give him more credit than they give my
Stephen M. Smith 1:04:52
mom says right now, when Kingdon got hurt against Ole Miss. I was at the game in 2014 It was this loud, painful scream. And I’m like, Who is that? And when I saw qingyan I was like God no, anybody but here anybody but yeah
Unknown Speaker 1:05:16
yeah, right. Right. Yeah when they hurt when it happened when it happened you know, it was like, already we was already willing to go out there and beat a tail you know? You know who knows what happened but we came out there with a purpose but when that happened, man was you know how it is when you heard a brother hurt a member in the family man we want to see Bloodstone and not home is loose and everything.
Justin Riley 1:05:43
How was that last night’s victory after that defeat Ohio State back in 2014. I’ve been salted since then. So I know. You had to be a little salty Blake. how satisfied was this victory to you?
Unknown Speaker 1:05:57
Oh no, it was very satisfied. I had I had put something on it. I was hoping that because I had heard what Cordell has or something I said some Nicko saving and one of one of the linebackers number four three had put them on tour so I was talking I was talking on my social media and hoping that one on talk to me I have put on my social media that if any of their players in 2014 had a problem we can meet up anywhere and suit up cuz she’s a martyr ready Derek ready yeah, everybody’s ready man you know we all still go but it was very satisfying for me man because I’m always trying to handle Ohio State players fans or whatever just speak about how how better they was of us and how they deserve to be here and deserve to be there man so I think that shows that they’re not they don’t deserve to be in
Marvin Constant 1:06:50
what Blake if y’all ever make that happen? Y’all need a good middle linebacker
Justin Riley 1:07:19
I’ll be I’ll be your strength coach I’ll be your Cochran
Unknown Speaker 1:07:27
we can make we can make we made the call the CEO that way
Unknown Speaker 1:07:30
as a
Unknown Speaker 1:07:33
general manager to answer the question
Justin Riley 1:07:40
we got a question from the audience now that they have COVID-19 protocol experience dealing with it Do you guys perceive spring and fall have close to normal tackling reps
Unknown Speaker 1:07:52
see you know they’ll learn how to you know handle the situation and give a better a better better and a better life outcome for the fam so we couldn’t be more excited for the gang.
Stephen M. Smith 1:08:07
I think I think this is gonna be good for the for the athletic directors in the sec and also Commissioner Greg Sankey. You know, having a full offseason to now deal with this. We saw how Sankey Did you know this past year he waited until would everybody else made their move? That he made his move? We were able to have a season and the SEC so I think having a full offseason to kind of project some things. I think it’d be good for the spring. Yeah, because
Marvin Constant 1:08:36
you know, they bought to have a COVID outbreak like crazy tough time that that data.
Unknown Speaker 1:08:45
Oh
Stephen M. Smith 1:08:48
my homeboy Maxwell was getting close to that that.
Unknown Speaker 1:08:53
No way I would have been out there.
Stephen M. Smith 1:08:56
Like my homie Maxwell was so it was so drunk. He was like, stay about the guy. We did it.
Unknown Speaker 1:09:05
He got he got halfway by
Unknown Speaker 1:09:06
CBS passed out. You know,
Unknown Speaker 1:09:11
he you know,
Marvin Constant 1:09:11
no matter. I can look back over the years. I’ve never seen that many people on the strip ever. Ever,
Stephen M. Smith 1:09:20
no doubt, no doubt, no doubt. But Blake Blake, my question for you. Here is just that there are so many times when assistant coaches leave Alabama to take other jobs and you have fans that get upset. You got people in the media that are like what’s going on here. But when I talk to players, it’s like the players be so calm. Are they being like man, Coach Nick, they’ve been here for 14 years, man he got us. He got our back. We ain’t sweat net. Coach Saban still here. So now what’s built that calmness over the years that it don’t matter if a coach calm and go, coach, save Got he gonna get the right man in there. What keeps the player so calm about that?
Unknown Speaker 1:10:08
Yeah, we have a system like bind to the system. You know, he was there, he had, they had, they had a standard, and we use a freshman Oh man, we use a five star four star, or whatever, we don’t care what you did in high school, you know, so appreciate you make yourself available. So you can get you can come here and make us better. But if you don’t want to buy into the system, and what we got going on, and what we need to do to make sure we don’t want hold no death trophy at the end of the year. That’s what you need to do. If you don’t want to get with it. Get gone. Are you gonna get lost in the system? And you can’t complain about it. You can’t go against it, because we all know we’re on our way to our 18th or 19th. championship? Yes, sir. So when you gotta like that you buy into it, you gotta keep going. It’s pretty much the phases.
Marvin Constant 1:11:04
You know, a lot of people don’t understand that. So like when I came to Alabama, last championship was in 92. And then the probation came. And my class was the second full recruiting class after the probation. So it was a lot of pressure put on us to get things back to the way it was, you know, my sophomore year, we win SEC championship, we should have won a national championship. But you know, some things happen. You know, we dropped the ball, we should have won it then. But we knew when we came in, hey, this is the expectation, you know, we’re not here just for fun. You got a job, do not go do it.
Unknown Speaker 1:11:39
Right. Right. Right. And then like, and then at the same time, like, man, I say it all the time. Hungry that they was going to run through that wall for him. You know, he like Nigel hairs. The man was living in a car. He was hungry for greatness. And then he comes to see, yeah, yeah, like you got guys like that coming in. And then you got guys that come in the Bellman that has everything made for them. And then when they sit down, they learn and they understand. Like I said earlier, like, like me as a quarterback, if I’m gonna yell at my father lineman, I got to make sure when I’m getting on them, and I’m telling them a noon, I got to make sure I’m still making them better, and making sure they’re still gonna perform at the best level. So like, that’s what cost saving does and understand that this is the system, you gave the borrower buying tour, or get going. And if you leave, we’re just gonna beat you again. We’re just gonna beat you. So that’s why
Marvin Constant 1:12:43
like, you know, you know, one of my favorite things my one of my coaches used to say, at Alabama, you can’t win with nice guys. And it’s so true. They didn’t recruit nice guy. He’s like, you don’t win with nice guy. You need some people with some of them. And that’s what saving does is where he goes. Who got some.
Stephen M. Smith 1:13:03
I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna. You gotta have some crazy. You go. You go back to that 2016 defense. Tony Brown was crazy. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1:13:17
I’ll tell ya.
Unknown Speaker 1:13:22
Yeah, Rolando McClain like that like cuz every cuz every count is like, every can be like, okay, you know who are superstars superstars it, but it’s like that first count. Okay, who’s gonna get it get the ball rolling, who’s gonna wake everybody up? And when I was there, from the 2009 teen, when even when I used to come in as a recruit, it was always Rome. It was London McLean. Then it became Dante hotel. And then CJ Mosley was with me when he smacked Mark Ingram. That’s when he that’s when he became a superstar he is so just like everybody coming in buying into the system. And going with it is you know, because like, I mean, we we talk down to them still, you know, cuz why we’d be like, y’all get your nails broken. Y’all put on social media. today. Again, man dudes have broken ankles, like your balls to be hanging out outside of your skin and you still out there trying to prize because you know that the guy behind you could take your place. Right? And of course we know we live.
Justin Riley 1:14:29
We live in this generation of the transfer portal. If anybody faces a little bit of adversity, they’re gone. If they had to wait, their turns are gone. Our big three Mac Mac nazy Smitty all faced adversity, they all had to wait their turn. And of course you did as well. What is that? What kind of message does that send to young players coming up with people like you who overcame adversity, people like Matt nausia and Smitty, facing adversity, waiting their turn, and then all of a sudden having things like this happen.
Unknown Speaker 1:15:01
Satellite you know, trusting the process trusting the process by one coast they have mentioned last time the guy that kasavin tries to get make them forget his his plays and move on to the next is that you got to trust the process you know at the beginning possibly Mac wanted to be the best quarterback to ever play Alabama he wanted the position so bad that when he made plays he’ll let that WAIT on Him instead of understand you come on and do what you’re supposed to do because you already been doing and that’s why you here Alabama to do what you need to do. And when you just let the gang come to you. A lot of great things can happen for him
Unknown Speaker 1:15:45
no
Justin Riley 1:15:47
do you guys feel like that he’s coming back or is he going to the NFL
Marvin Constant 1:15:51
come back for what to do what?
Unknown Speaker 1:16:05
already talked to my landlord
Marvin Constant 1:16:17
I got on that flight.
Stephen M. Smith 1:16:22
Bro went from being doubted to being 1000 yard pass fail
Unknown Speaker 1:16:30
on him last night
Stephen M. Smith 1:16:36
I’m on the phone with Sean Payton right now saying this you’re calling me Sean Payton.
Justin Riley 1:16:45
Last night, no. twos receivers are gone. But then he’s still driving down the field and score ntds man that’s huge. And I think all doubts are a race for him last night.
Unknown Speaker 1:16:56
That’s just me. I mean we you got we got a lot of guys that name is over is overshadowing you. is like a lot of people don’t understand don’t appreciate a word. You know what I’m saying? And how much you put into the game and they don’t understand and and that sucks for certain people you don’t understand. Like I hate the fact that the vontae got hurt and a lot of our big name players got hurt but that was dealt with that problem was sent for Mac. That was for his time to be sad because he worked his butt off man. I’ve seen it myself. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. He he cheered Jalen on he cheered tool on and even when this summer this summer, nobody was talking about Mack erebos Bryce young this Bryce young that nobody never really spoke of his name until he hit his first 40 yard game. So I think that moment the end of the game when the players got hurt, not saying I wish they did anything, but I’m glad how it happened. I’m glad that he got his opportunity to show who he is and what part how big of a part of how big of a role he played on his team.
Unknown Speaker 1:18:03
He can do
Stephen M. Smith 1:18:07
two receivers I’m the most proud of it from that game. Number one, slay Boulder. My ball guys first career touchdown. I was proud to slay I was real proud.
Unknown Speaker 1:18:18
I was proud of white soccer.
Stephen M. Smith 1:18:22
Practice late to number two zigzag Xavier Williams Ziggy, zigzag had two catches last night. And zigzag is basically a taller version of our Darian Stewart
as long as he continues to develop, he is somebody to watch.
Unknown Speaker 1:18:53
What are you?
Justin Riley 1:18:54
What do y’all take on wattle playing last night? You know, it was amazing. You know, despite the pain and the discomfort he was still out there trying to go for his boys. Do you feel like that was a good decision for him? Because he was actually drawing criticism online last night AJ brown of Tennessee Titans was sitting there just discussed that he was that he was still in the game and mad at the coaches for even letting him consider coming out on the field. But from your perspective, Marvin, Steven and Blake, how did y’all feel about waterplay and cannot?
Unknown Speaker 1:19:26
I’ll say I’ll say they won’t understand cuz they didn’t go down with them. And as the best way I could put you won’t understand unless you have been in that locker room. You have been through the 110s you have shattered blood tears, man. Like I can put on that jersey. I’m getting out there. On the way the only thing stopping you from getting there that deathbed.
Marvin Constant 1:19:49
What well to piggyback on that blade. He knew that that was gonna be his last game that Alabama so he wanted to play in his last game which was a national You know, championship game. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play in a national championship game as the last game of college? You know these haters, I got something to say ain’t play for Nick Collins the Polynesian go to real bowl game if I was in Shreveport somewhere playing on the 23rd. So they don’t know what they don’t understand. They never been to a real bowl. So until you play in a BCS bowl or into one of these playoff games, it’s a completely different environment. Because again, my freshman year 98, we went to the municipal froze our asses off and we made a decision. We weren’t doing that no more. Next year we in BCS boom. It takes a mental aspect to reach a game of that magnitude and everybody who has any opportunity to play wants to play and for those haters, again, it was in Shreveport somewhere in Arizona, the cactus bowl. They don’t know what it is.
Stephen M. Smith 1:20:52
you’re just joining the water want this game. He wanted to be out there. And I kind of had a gut feeling. But he would play my whole thing was if he could get out that he got that morning. And he felt good. But he would go out there but along with water. I mean how about the boy Landon Dickerson No, tore his knee up against Florida and was begging coach coat and dressed out, dressed out took snaps got in the game, the two snaps to end it and he’s the one carrying coke save and off the field. I mean, we’ve been here for Nathan degus has only been here for two years, but it feels like you’ve been here before
Marvin Constant 1:21:34
the I will pray he dropped coaching I said please Him and Nico.
Stephen M. Smith 1:21:40
Marvin, I thought I thought the same thing, but I’m just saying he’s been here for two years but I declare it feels like he bacova for years because of how quickly Nandan took to the game like man took to the Bama system so fast and his personality. It jailed so quick. Were you thinking dog here for you guy but he wasn’t a four year guy but it felt like he was
Unknown Speaker 1:22:08
right.
Justin Riley 1:22:10
How special was it for him to take the last nap? That probably would have been the best
Unknown Speaker 1:22:15
I’ve ever seen.
Stephen M. Smith 1:22:16
Dude, do like I’m watching this on the field that happens. The moment Linda Dickerson stepped on the field. Matt Jones’s smile was as big as the Kool Aid man. And then Chris Owens. Chris Owens is right beside him going, bro you coming in?
Unknown Speaker 1:22:32
Let’s go.
Stephen M. Smith 1:22:34
Chris was going crazy. The whole site man went crazy that cuz every Landon Dickerson was a team captain. He was an iron man. He was a unanimous on American for a reason. The moment he became the center in 2019, the middle of 2019 he brought something to that offensive line that was not there in 2018. I Dickerson brought a passion. He brought an intensity he brought a physicality, but most importantly, he brought a person that was not there in 2018. So for him to have that moment, he deserved.
Unknown Speaker 1:23:20
No, no doubt.
Justin Riley 1:23:22
Speaking of personality, if y’all know that hadn’t been following this on Instagram and other places. Blake is a part of a little ongoing series with Coach Jones.
Unknown Speaker 1:23:36
My
Justin Riley 1:23:36
brother that has be some of the most hilarious stuff I’ve ever seen. What inspired that and is this ever gonna be on TV?
Unknown Speaker 1:23:45
No, no, we wanted to be on TV for sure man. And it is inspiring because we just see a lot a lot of Instagram. People really just come up with skits and stuff. So he was like, man, we we have the band we have some of the best comedians on our team. So he’s like, why don’t we just recreate moments that we that that’s very true because we knew a lot of people always wonder like what goes on and behind the walls or inside in the walls of Alabama. So like we just started giving a real cold cut of what happens on me just how we talk. How we talking in the video, just how coaches talk.
Stephen M. Smith 1:24:29
To me, Christian Jones is one of the more underrated receivers to come to this program because the guy the guy can return kicks, the guy can return pause the guy play wide receiver the guy was tougher to uh, most people gave him credit for I mean, what was the biggest joy about playing with
Unknown Speaker 1:24:48
Christian personality man the way he walked in the room and he made the rooms smile, you know, and then the guys are they’re all willing to fight behind them, but His his crazy like the way he created his space, the way he was able to get to the end zone, the passionate he played with, you know, the way he was his his ability to create his, his open to get open and his route seen just him with digital is a lot of things that he did you know, when you’re seeing players down, he was one of the players that came to me when we was playing Auburn and I assume a third pick. He was one of the guys that came and picked me up. He didn’t. He didn’t speak a lot but when he spoke, you know, everybody listened.
Justin Riley 1:25:36
So you tell us about how people kind of helped you along the way and invested into you poured it into you? Who is that guy that you are guys that you really poured into for that next generation when when you left?
Unknown Speaker 1:25:53
I’ll say Jake Coker can sounds Calvin Ridley, there’s a lot of guys, you know, I can’t really see her in this hand pig of like who I did, you know, like hoody Jones cam Robinson, Jan read us a lot of guys, man, we just all had a, you know, when it started start all starts at the recruiting. You know, when they come in as a recruit, and after a game, they get the opportunity to come hang with us and stuff. The barn starts there, man. And don’t stop at this after we leave them.
Justin Riley 1:26:27
Yeah, absolutely. Right. Well, before we move into a closing part of our show, like what was your favorite moment as an Alabama player?
Unknown Speaker 1:26:35
My favorite moment when we lost the soul was the year that we lost the LSU I think it was like nine six. And I think LeBron James came to the game. And it was a very bad game. And but, uh, the way that we came back in the NASA championship in the backyard of LSU, and beat them and for them to never cross the 50 yard line. I thought that was very big.
Justin Riley 1:27:02
That’s the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen. question real quick for the audience. Blake, what was your experience like in the AF
Unknown Speaker 1:27:11
I was it was good. It was good. I was I was a lead leader. I was a part of that was that could have, you know, contain could have continued. The fans in Birmingham, they really seem to be enjoying it. It came out and you know, they they had, they had all the bamboo players back. They, they was there all the time. And it was good. The system was going good. And just a couple of things that happen that a lot of people don’t really know the truth about and we’ll never know, only the people upstairs know, but I wish it could have would have could have kept going it would have helped a lot of players. But I’m glad and I hope they come back out with extra
Justin Riley 1:27:53
no doubt. All right, moving on to the closing part. Marvin, can you tell us a little bit about what the book is doing how we can get our hands on it. And then just some testimonials maybe from some of your satisfied customers
Marvin Constant 1:28:09
the book is doing what the book does as usual. um you know we’re moving close to 1000 copies being so I’m just I’m thankful to everybody if you follow me on Instagram constant 45 on Facebook you regularly see people posting pictures of themselves with the book and out and I’ll share it as well and I mean it’s been nothing but a blessing man and as we have expanded our product line the 40 plus strong product line to you know workout gloves straps weight lifting go are you anything you need for working out for the club strong got you covered. So um you know, I just want to thank the people again for for their support, you know, and again if you need anything for zero p l u s str n g 40 plus john calm, we got some
Unknown Speaker 1:28:58
great, great
Justin Riley 1:28:59
things happening there. I’m excited about what I learned every week and I expect a 2021 even better, even better success for it. So looking forward to seeing that couple of program notes. The tower Turner show is still every Monday night at 9pm 10pm. Eastern in depth analysis, recruiting news and town evaluation that is your speed tune in Thursday nights the Jones and arrojo show that’s at 7pm Central 8pm. Eastern, there are two guys from Jersey talking about the NFL, the Giants college football, NBA and whatever they want to argue about pretty good stuff. pretty hilarious stuff. So check them out.
Unknown Speaker 1:29:35
Martin, what
Justin Riley 1:29:35
do you have on board for us next week? Ah,
Marvin Constant 1:29:39
we got to figure that out. There’s no games, mommy. Yes, we got to talk about recruiting and other stuff. So I’m happy to call Steve and I Hey, man, I need some insight on some recruitment. We were gonna have some
Justin Riley 1:29:53
we could always get that pickup game that Blake was talking about earlier between the 2014 Alabama squad and the state squad. And film that.
Marvin Constant 1:30:02
way my knees set up. Yes, I’ll be doing.
Justin Riley 1:30:07
Jaylen waddle can do it you can give us a good couple of plays or so
Marvin Constant 1:30:10
man’s in his in his 20s I’m 41 years old.
Justin Riley 1:30:19
Man love to see it. Alright guys, before we head out, if you could give us a little bit about what’s going on next for you guys, social media contact, and a few closing words Steven and Smith, we’ll start with you.
Stephen M. Smith 1:30:33
Well, first and foremost, I’m happy to be back in the state of Alabama. Having to be back home. I’m excited about tomorrow show. In my own words at 6pm touchdown Alabama magazine. Got a lot to talk about on tomorrow’s show. From the recap of this game, the coaching moves on how proud I am of the performance of Mack Jones, how the defense stepped up, you know, in moments. What could we be looking at in terms of the NFL Draft coming up soon, so just allow things for Wednesday show to get excited about? I can find me on Twitter at coaching m Smith on Twitter. I can find me on Facebook, Steven m Smith on Facebook and pretty so I gotta get Blake on the show. Boy, I gotta get you on the show, man.
Justin Riley 1:31:20
Well, he just missed him. He decided his time was up or he’s minutes right now. But
Stephen M. Smith 1:31:28
I’ll tell you Oh, also, one last thing. I am grateful that you Justin and more than have made me a part of the show. I appreciate the both of you guys man. I missed out on you guys a couple of times. I know. Justin you said the last time I met Steve pulled a gun out so I’m happy I’m happy to be back so I could have civilized
but but in all seriousness though, is this is an absolute joy. I enjoy doing this with you guys.
Marvin Constant 1:32:11
Well Steve, you might as well get ready. You know why? Because football season is over. You understand what that means?
Unknown Speaker 1:32:19
There’s a whole list
Marvin Constant 1:32:21
of gifts that coach in play football that weren’t available during the season. Or what they’re free now.
Justin Riley 1:32:27
They are so we
Marvin Constant 1:32:29
bout to pull out the big guns now baby because they listen. I understand during football season you know Tuesday nights is rough for them if they coach you know if they plan Oh, but they free now. I’ve got a special list of guests that I’ve had on hold couple I’m still playing in the playoffs right now. Yeah, but a lot of a lot of these coaches, they don’t know. Yep, we really get into the meat of this thing now.
Justin Riley 1:32:53
Yes sir. Matter of fact for those who are still listening out there are a couple of names of folks that I’ve talked to Mr. Ryan Anderson one of the best linebackers we’ve seen here and he wants to come home.
Marvin Constant 1:33:07
Hey Justin, I’ll see you soon as they win the Super Bowl.
Justin Riley 1:33:13
Okay, I’ll see you DJ Fluker and TJ yeldon
Marvin Constant 1:33:19
got to say Townsend
Justin Riley 1:33:22
Well, we’re gonna stick with defensive backs.
Stephen M. Smith 1:33:35
You don’t have to sit there one off each other. I said
Justin Riley 1:33:39
man, we’re just letting our folks what? Let them let them know what to expect in 2021 because this offseason, it’s got to be creative. We’re gonna go national will be will be left Paul finebaum show.
Stephen M. Smith 1:33:53
Absolutely. And I shall go national I will be the friendly floating spirit here.
Marvin Constant 1:34:00
Really floating spirit, Stephen. Honestly, I’ll say this man, you bring something to this show that not many people can bring. Because not everybody is as well versed as you are in football, especially alabama football, the depth of knowledge that you bring. It’s something that very few people on this planet can do. The way you recall names and recall facts, man, that is a powerful thing. Because like I said, like most people can’t do that man. So that’s a powerful thing. So I get it. You got Justin who’s leading the way. You got me and Steve over here cracking jokes and just have fun. And then we got you back and it all just works man and it works well.
Stephen M. Smith 1:34:42
I love Steve man. One side of his glaze they fall down.
Justin Riley 1:34:50
I can definitely tell you man.
Stephen M. Smith 1:34:53
Okay, Michelle call with Stevens.
Justin Riley 1:34:58
Hey, we got Ashley. They’re going to discuss coming up what we’re going to do in this next year. So yeah, we’re gonna have a little call and we’re gonna put some ideas together. It’s gonna be a fun year. But yeah, we definitely appreciate you coming on this entire time we consider you part of our team, part of our family man. It’s been a it’s been a great ride, especially during this football season. So we definitely appreciate you and definitely appreciate you providing knowledge, you know, that? I always say, This show is 90% nonsense and 10% Sports knowledge. Well, you’re that 10% that comes in
Unknown Speaker 1:35:29
and
Justin Riley 1:35:30
makes it a sports show.
Marvin Constant 1:35:34
You wouldn’t think that me and Steve brown actually know anything about football. He’s cracking jokes.
Stephen M. Smith 1:35:44
To wrap this up on my end, I gotta give Justin a lot of credit here for this backdrop. I mean, you got leatherwood in here. You got Dickerson I don’t know what bar Moore’s Look at that. Yeah. You got Nick Saban trying to hold back tears. And you got the national championship. I that is that is on be lievable and probably the one thing that was not shown on camera was Did y’all see the epic snow angel that Thomas Fletcher made the long long snapper I’ve ever said.
Unknown Speaker 1:36:21
I was gonna belly
Unknown Speaker 1:36:23
flop in the middle of
Marvin Constant 1:36:28
why he gotta be wearing number 45.
Stephen M. Smith 1:36:34
I was about to get that. I don’t know why you got that number. I don’t know why somebody needs to call Jeff banks and be like that number should have been retired after Johnston bar. Right. That number should have been retired.
Marvin Constant 1:36:50
I mean, you think about the Jonathan Fowler’s minchie. The Marvin koston. Then Fletcher, the long snapper.
Unknown Speaker 1:36:57
He didn’t fit the same equation
Marvin Constant 1:36:58
with us.
Justin Riley 1:37:00
Well, speaking of Mr. Karen Lynch, he will be on soon as well along with Mr. Derrick lassic and Sherman Williams. So just a couple more so
Stephen M. Smith 1:37:07
so so so so Marvin to end applied, I will put in a word of Jeff banks that will ask him why in the world was Fletcher was Thomas Fletcher wearing 45?
Unknown Speaker 1:37:19
Yes,
Unknown Speaker 1:37:20
please let me know. All right. Before we go,
Justin Riley 1:37:23
I just one last question for each of you. If you could freeze frame a shot from this season and put it on your wall? What moment would that be?
Unknown Speaker 1:37:33
Let’s start with you, Steven.
Stephen M. Smith 1:37:35
If I can freeze right and the moment from this season, what would it be, um, the nazy hair was horrible over the Notre Dame defensive back. And the reason why it freeze for that moment. It just shows how much work nazy put in in the offseason. To be the best back in college football. People don’t realize he trained with so many former college greats and NFL greats, whether it was in Atlanta, or LA or Houston, Texas, to put himself in a situation where I’m not just going to be the best bags ever played Alabama. But I’m going to give myself the ultimate chance to prove to the NFL Draft at the running back position is still about you. So that hurdle by nachi Harris freeze frame that make that a Daniel Moore painting right now, because that showed all the work that you put in.
Marvin Constant 1:38:32
For me, the mom would actually have to be watching the vontae Smith when the Heisman Trophy, seeing somebody so humble, so deserving to win that award. And he, as you see him on the field, he doesn’t talk trash. He’s not out there doing anything, man. Great, great, great man, that that’s the moment for me.
Justin Riley 1:38:52
I guess for for me, I’ll just have a collective picture of the big three nnaji Mac and devonte just because they waited their turn. They overcame adversity. You know, they overcame a lot of tough times, especially especially Mac and they stayed in school, they didn’t transfer out. They didn’t do what the norm is for the majority of players these days. They stuck it out and they ended up leaving being the best practice to ever play their position in the game. So that to me would be my frame shot. Well, guys, I enjoyed it. It was great. Another year down another national championship and the books. Looking forward to what we got ahead. Roll tide,
Unknown Speaker 1:39:35
Roll Tide.
