Unknown Speaker
are you doing today Byron?

Byron Jones
I am doing lovely and wonderful Philadelphia baking my brains out today.

Victor Arocho
So let me get this straight last week you were freezing.

Unknown Speaker
This week your your burden?

Byron Jones
I had to put a pair of shorts on today.

Victor Arocho
I’m in shorts. Look, I hate going up north during this time, because I rather you I don’t like going cold but I rather go when it’s cold. Or when it’s warm is because like if you go to a mall you go anywhere. It’s steaming hot because they don’t want to turn the AC on.

Byron Jones
So I save the money go save money.

Victor Arocho
No joke, but uh, meanwhile me from Florida is used to AC I am like sweating.

Unknown Speaker
From originally,

Unknown Speaker
I’m a jersey boy, but I’m done with shoveling.

Victor Arocho
You know, most people probably have a different opinion about what I’m shoveling but that’s the deal. Alright, so obviously we’re gonna talk about the NFL and we’re always going to talk about the love of giants good, bad or ugly. There’s a several coaches I want to talk about, you know, always gonna bring up the Cowboys. And I want to a lot of stuff on the NFL we want to talk about, I’m always going to tune in for you to talk about Tulsa, and a few things that are happening over there. And I want to talk about our NBA Finals. Just a little bit about your comments from last week. And today we have been really honored to have a very, very special guest. He’s on the line right now waiting and we actually have a couple Colin’s already so I’m really happy to hear from them as well. So let me just get started right away. First, let me introduce our special guest Ed Stewart. that correct? Yes. And I pronounced Stuart right. Take him.

Unknown Speaker
Okay, just unmute him.

Victor Arocho
Okay, he’ll see that. Ed Stewart. He is another jersey boy born and raised in Matawan, New Jersey. I had a few college friends that went to metal, and one of the Ed’s chews tobacco like these guys did. and was a member of the number one ranked undefeated state champion mattawan Huskies. He’s also a member of the hall of fame for Matawan, football, and an inductee for ruckers Hall of Fame. He’s been an AP all American, first team all Big East pick as a middle guard and he’s also played linebacker as a linebacker. He has two interceptions in a win over Tennessee in 1979. He said 15 tackles in the Garden State ball gets our resort state. It was invited to the summer camp for the Denver Broncos at Rutgers he posted a 25 to nine record as he contributed to 222 career tackles and 13 qB sacks. This is a very special part and I’d like to thank Ed for his service edit has was in the US Army. He’s an army veteran serving from 1985 to 2006, which is 21 years. He used part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation storm Desert Storm, South Korea and West Germany. Today he’s retired living in Lawton, Oklahoma. I want to thank you for your service. My dad is a 20 army vet as well. And welcome Matt, how are you doing today?

Unknown Speaker
If I can get him off mute.

Victor Arocho
Right. If you can get him get him get his daughter to get him this daughter off for me. We’ll be in good shape. As he comes off as he comes off of mute, we’re gonna keep going and talk a little bit and then it’ll be able to tell us a little bit about the things he’s done in him signing and we have several pictures of him in fact, I got a nice picture of his signing day. But by while you’re getting trying to get him on the phone, let’s let’s um, I’m going to move on to our show

Byron Jones
a pick a motoman come up with you because that’s where we’re waiting for ah

Unknown Speaker
so

Victor Arocho
This is okay. If you heard some of the years he was a he’s playing in all eight all state football, he’s a technology sometimes a little bit of a challenge. So there you go.

Unknown Speaker
And how are you doing? I’m doing great.

Victor Arocho
Awesome. I hope you heard what I had said thank you for your service, you have tremendous accolades. As I said, My dad was 20 year army vet as well.

Unknown Speaker
Okay, you know what, I didn’t even know you were talking about me when you were saying all that good stuff.

Victor Arocho
That’s how big that’s how great. Ivan thinks of you. So Brian gave me the intro. You know, you did a lot of great stuff. And you should be proud of that. You know, just just being in a Hall of Fame in both at high school and college is, is very, very impressive. And then more impressive serving in the military for for 21 years. So that’s fantastic. So, so. Yes, good.

Unknown Speaker
It inspired me to do what I did when I was in the military. When when I played the football, you know, it’s all about the leadership. And, you know, these we were young and dumb, and, you know, we just did our thing. The thing was, I just like to hit people. And so I guess that’s where the accolades come. You know, I just, I played that Semi Pro Football, also to New Jersey Rams. Oh, I remember that. Yeah, in Montclair State of the homeplace. But it was, it was, was pretty nice up there. You know, I met some real good people, you know, the more you travel, the more people you meet. It just, you know, it gets to where your next next

Unknown Speaker
task is. Right. So, so

Unknown Speaker
the sports helped you in the military?

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You know, I’m in Fort Sill, Oklahoma right now. And you have a sack a melting pot of everybody from all over the United States and other countries. And so, you know, in view, this pandemic, situation here now. Pete, you get back to the basics, you got to talk to people, right, you know, face to face. It’s not all about texting and everything. And, you know, because of the fact that I was exposed to all these other people over here. It helped me out, you know, before I got here, and it helped me out. My prison time. Oh, yeah.

Unknown Speaker
You know what I mean?

Victor Arocho
Right. So how did it feel being back then in Matawan? I mean, you grew up in Long Branch, right? Was that no matter what, no matter what, man? Or somebody else? Um, how was it growing up in Matawan? That’s kind of south of us, isn’t it? by

Unknown Speaker
a little bit south?

Unknown Speaker
Yeah. Well, it was, it was a, you know, I got to meet some real good people. My mother and my father were in that area up there. And so you learn these different traditions. And, you know, it’s, it’s you grow up with these guys, and your lifelong friends with them. You know, recently, uh, my wife passed away, and I’ve got all these bones, you know, all these things, sir. I’ve got all these. My friends were all part of me. And so they all stick together, and only took one call to get everybody involved with that. So, you know, it’s a physical thing when then when you go up there, we had the banquet, the matter, one banquet. I mean, you know, that’s, that was that was, you know, I’d like to see everybody and you know, how we all aged and stuff. But the real kicker was when I came back from a desert storm, is when I was before that I had been inducted into the record football thing. And so I seen all my friends and, you know, there were all these people who didn’t see, I didn’t even know I was going to talk. So I didn’t have I didn’t have no, no speech rights. And so when they call my name, Ricky, my boy, Ricky Butler, he says, A, Yo, man, you gotta go up there and talk. And I looked at him and had you know, I had to freelance on that. And they had filmed it. And so they cut me a tape of that. And you can see, you couldn’t see how nervous I was.

Unknown Speaker
But you could hear it in my voice. Yummy.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, so I could imagine, um, I wanted to show so everybody could see real quick.

anyone tell me a little bit about that picture.

Unknown Speaker
And that one, oh, yeah.

Unknown Speaker
That’s you sign in right.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. Oh yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Which picture you’re talking about.

Byron Jones
With your letter of intent when you saw my dog, Gary Weber and

Unknown Speaker
virus me a youngster picture.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
What would that picture right? Gary was going to Michigan, University of Michigan, and me and Ricky had originally signed to go to Colorado State. And I don’t know, something to do was they tried to redshirt us. And then they didn’t redshirt us. And so then the coaches, a friend of mine was going to Rutgers. He was he’s being recruited. And we went up there. And we talked to him. yahveh soon, and we eventually decided to go to Rutgers. But that has been like three months. Since we had heard it just again. We’re gonna get back with you on that. But that picture, man? Yeah, I don’t know where y’all got that from man.

Byron Jones
I haven’t the memory banks.

Victor Arocho
He said, because I needed something I was trying to get the picture on on for you. So let me ask you a question. haven’t been back to Rutgers.

Unknown Speaker
I haven’t been back. What’s the last statement?

Unknown Speaker
Um, well, in in 2014 2015. I was contacted to wisdom with Coach ash. And I was going through some, I had this, I come down with lung cancer. And so I’d like to talk to him. And he sent me a football signed by the whole team. And, you know, I thought, you know, I was humbled by that, you know,

Victor Arocho
well, the reason I’m asking is because, you know, I’m from Perth and more like, like Byron, and I would go to ruckers games. It was like I was in a high school state. Do you go to Rutgers? out? It’s a real state. Oh, yeah. A real I mean, I was like, Wow.

Unknown Speaker
I you know,

Unknown Speaker
metal, metal bleachers watching

Unknown Speaker
you know, what the deal is on that, you know, they go grade 10. And you see how Michigan is, and Ohio State or Michigan State and all the above? And you got to compete. You got to you know, number one, your your it’s a recruiting tool. And number two, you got, you got to go with the time. I think when I went up there, it was just now getting that practice dome done for I want to say that was a

Unknown Speaker
shadow.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. Oh, great. Sean, he’s great. She

Unknown Speaker
brought a lot of stuff to that to ruckers

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, but right about now, the big 10 they’re all four games behind. You know, the I mean, everybody else has already played for over here in the big 12 and stuff. And you know, how you gonna rank somebody, something like that you got these guys who haven’t played yet against these guys who already been playing for game. So how do you how do you meet it? I mean, you’re looking at polls, and they got teams that are dropping. However, the ones who hadn’t played this game with the same level, you know,

Victor Arocho
why we say we could do something because like jersey was was known to have, you know, California has quarterbacks in Texas as running back. You know, New Jersey was known to have like, the best all around AP athlete or football player. Yeah. Yet Rob has such a tough time recruiting this Rucker science. I’m in Miami for a lot of things. Rucker signs over here when she was playing, you track down that way. It’s like Rutgers is recruiting down here. You know, Florida is becoming the, you know, they’re killing Miami, Florida State. Is it taken everybody but, um, Oh, that’s great. I really appreciate all your stuff. And we’d like for you to continue staying on with us and add some input. You say you’re still in sports now? What are you doing?

Unknown Speaker
me right now? I’m not doing I’m retired and everything and I watch a lot of sports. But, uh, you know, memories. I got a lot of memories I’m dealing with right now. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
We’re probably we’re over a century plus.

Victor Arocho
Exactly. So I’m gonna I’m gonna get right into it. And please feel free to you know, I want to hear your comments and so forth. All right. So let’s get

Byron Jones
started like this here. Listen to this. We got a raider fan right now on the phone. Ed?

Unknown Speaker
Yes, yeah. Edson Raider fan. Oh yeah. Big time.

Victor Arocho
I used to be here I mean, I was always a giant fan but I was a raider fan back in the day with with the the Legion you know who they call them? Lester Hayes was the defensive back. So they had Lester Hey, that whole stick on piece. Those are right. But that was a best secondary I’ve ever seen. One right on it, we’re gonna move on to the giants, right? So I wore this shirt specially if you could see it, you can’t I don’t know if you can see it, but it’s a Clemson shirt.

And I work for Byron, because Byron thought he was on the bandwagon of get rid of Eli and putting Danny Dyer. And then again he had he had the nerve to like take the year so we can get Trevor Lord. Thank you. So then I’m listening to the sports this warning, right? And when I’m listening to the sports sports show this morning, there’s like two or three people in the sport shadow remaining of the show, but they’re also giant fans. And guess what they were talking about?

Unknown Speaker
Trevor Lawrence.

Unknown Speaker
But wait a second.

Victor Arocho
They were talking about the Jets are in running out. They’re terrible. They said the giants in the running for them because they’re terrible. And there was one more team that was just they said now everybody’s vying for Trevor Lawrence. Right. So I’ve worked with this shirt, particularly for those Eli haters.

Unknown Speaker
Those guys take them on and you guys played football? Yeah. Especially defense tank.

Victor Arocho
To get out in the field and try to take a game with you hit the crap. If you pull the fat hammy and stuff

Byron Jones
and you know you got to stagger off the field. Yes, you can take a game. All right. Now

Victor Arocho
those days everybody caught on to lineman where you want it resting. You just fell down make bleed. You’re hurt. Oh, yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Totally fall down.

Unknown Speaker
You gracefully fall down and they show the film like nobody hits it.

Unknown Speaker
out.

Victor Arocho
But the gentleman’s Brian. I was Excuse me. I was gonna call you by him. Because I am telling you I was sure the giants were gonna win. I was sure they were gonna win. Well,

Byron Jones
no, he was gonna win that that that awful left tackle Thomas rollerskates the whole game with Lauren’s run around. Poor Danny dines was running for his life. Half of the game.

Unknown Speaker
You yelled at him like radio that his life

Unknown Speaker
out of curse him out and kicked him in the bud.

Unknown Speaker
I guess you’re okay with Brady yelling at his linemen.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah.

Byron Jones
motivate them a little bit. I’m making $10 million a year and I got a $50 million quarterback Guess what? When he does? Well?

Victor Arocho
I do well. Exactly. And the other thing they made they made a good comment too. If you don’t do you know, I would be yelling too because no, you’re not and it was mental mistakes. That’s what he was yelling and he wasn’t just yelling at this guy rolling on skates. He was mad because they lost by one point and he scored two times that it was all penalties. They had to bring him back and then if a lineman messes up that’s like the quarterback can get severely hurt because then

Unknown Speaker
you run around refers life

Victor Arocho
like the other like two weeks ago you were like saying when you’re running at that quarterback, your mouth saliva runs. You know? As you know, the same you had a lot of attacks. I mean, you’re just you just you know, a dog bite and the bits and if alignment is not doing what he’s supposed to do, that quarterbacks gonna get hit hard. Yeah. Because that’s your job. So you don’t I’m okay with Brady yelling at you saying they make a big thing about it. And I also say Brady yells, you know, also gives them good compliments. But back with the giants. I was gonna call you because I thought they were gonna win. I still don’t think they’re gonna go up. Go zero. But, um, what do you think about? What do you think about Jason Garrett? Like, what’s he doing? I mean, a lot of times you see head coaches that were terrible, but when they go back to where they started, like Wade cooks back Nola. Yeah, I’m Jason Garrett, you know, when they’re either offensive or defensive coordinators, and that’s where they started. Don’t get me wrong. There’s been really great. Coaches also, that became great coaches, Saban was defensive coach, Belichick was a defensive coach or sells was a defensive coach. Andy Reid was always an offensive coach, you know, so they have succeeded, but I mean, you know, Wade Phillips, it was terrible. But no matter what team he goes through that defense is phenomenal. But Jason Garrett, Jason Garrett. He did not have the tools. I understand that but, you know, I’m just concerned that uh, I don’t see a good offense at all. Well, they put up 30 points, I think this week, so, but the defense things everybody puts up 30 points against the

Unknown Speaker
defense.

Victor Arocho
That’s me. They always lose and they they’re losing in the beginning,

Unknown Speaker
except when they find a job offer just remember that offer.

Victor Arocho
It’s not going to happen I can’t believe Jason guarantee is going to go home. Hopefully we have somebody somebody that rises to the occasion. So Jason Garrett, and then he leaves the cowboys and you know, they’re still putting up points but their defense things and now I’m Dak if sir I like that hate the Cowboys by like that, you know now, sir. Now let’s see what’s gonna happen there. And you know, Dayton inside sign them to a contract so I think that’s gonna you know, what do you think that’s gonna do to affect this his contract?

Unknown Speaker
Well, you know, there’s a there’s a lot of variables with that. Like, you see me You saw the injury right? You saw his his ankle was sideways. So you know that’s that’s a that’s a downer on that one there. But you know that that decreases ism is worse. And so what’s going to happen is they’re going to have to see how out how much of a comeback he’s gonna make, as far as that’s concerned, before they read negotiate his contract, because he making good money now? Well, he’s not making like some

Unknown Speaker
of these other guys. 31

Byron Jones
made he’s making this year in a franchise tag.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, they didn’t give him so I thought

Unknown Speaker
it was a one year franchise tag. Yeah,

Victor Arocho
I gave him a one year franchise said, Oh, man, I feel bad for my cowboys. I feel bad for her. Now. Next one I wanted to talk about is heat. So you got Jason Garrett, we talked about that. So now, right. Stay with the giants. But now from the Patriots. You have two head coaches that came from the Patriots. Right One was a player. I don’t know if they’ll win. Joe. Judges are quote, our head coach, and Mike Grable, is the head coach of the Titans.

Unknown Speaker
There’s a big difference going on right there.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Talent. Tennessee has

Byron Jones
done a giant period. Bottom line. That’s the only way you can cut it.

Unknown Speaker
Okay,

Victor Arocho
that’s I don’t have a problem with that. But just the attitude of that team is a because Reagan was a great player. And he was here’s an example of a linebacker being a head coach. Right. Yeah. I mean, you know, and he’s doing a great job. The other thing we talked about, I believe last week by was, oh, people happen to leave the dolphins and become great. Look at tennis. No, okay. I liked him at Texas a&m. That’s when they were producing all those quarterbacks. I was excited. I was going to my and he said he’s crushing it in, in Tennessee.

Byron Jones
Because he has. He has a big giant running back in the back. He has, you know, competent receivers and a good tight end good office line. And he has all the makings of doing a good job. But he’s

Victor Arocho
a pretty good quarterback. I mean, he’s done a good job. He’s proved himself because last year you weren’t sure. But then he’s proved himself here. When Henry wasn’t doing well, he did. Okay. But you got to admit he’s playing good football. I mean, he ran for a touchdown.

Unknown Speaker
So, again, he has all the pieces, right? You’ve got Yeah.

Byron Jones
That’s the biggest thing about your Say for example, with the Giants sake Marbach. Yep, one of the best running backs in football back there. Yeah, Danny dines as long as they have good receivers are better than what they have, they’ll do better. But until they fix that, it’s just gonna be a mess.

Victor Arocho
I think if they don’t get back to giant football, meaning including the tight end, they’re never going to, you know, to me, every time I know that when they’re utilizing the tight end in the game, or that mid receiver that that slot receiver, then I know they’re going to start doing well, if they’re only relying on running and just outside receivers. It’s just not gonna happen in the NFC, right, Nana is a bully bully cause What was that?

Unknown Speaker
I was gonna say, you know, a lot of teams are going with that a second and third tied in you know, and that gives you different options or different selections of plays that you can run. And I want to tell the Raiders, the Raiders, the Raiders beat the chiefs, you know, they they found the whole whole script on my home. You know, he you see the how the defensive backs were how they were spaced out and everything. And so, they they studied a lot of those, those that film and what it was they got tendencies and when you pick up tendencies on on your on defense, you pick up tendencies, your job is a whole lot better because all week long after you pick up those tendencies. Well, you can exploit those things. And and that’s exactly what he did. I mean my own everywhere he went, that was Somebody, and then the gang tackle was good. They’ve had no answer for a long ball, man, the Chiefs man. I mean, it was going to be a slug match anyway, right? However, the Raiders prevail, and they they had better coaching and they had better they were more prepared to do chief work. You know, the Chiefs thought that there’s going to be a walk on. And you know, you can’t think that way when you’re in the pros. And if you looked at my own his facial expressions, he was frustrated all the way screwed it he, I mean, everything he did that he was he got away with wasn’t working. And so needless to say, I I was I was happy and proud to degrade or beat them.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, there’s an element to that too, because the Raiders and chiefs hate each other. I mean, that’s a rivalry. That Oh, yeah. They’re gonna play each other again. But did you save each other? Oh, yeah. Speaking of the Raiders, the one thing I want to comment on is, I was very impressed. I took I like Jon Gruden. And I like Mike. Because I thought those two last year with all the disaster stuff that was happening Antonio Brown, Mike Thomas, and using his fourth stream course pack, you get real rid of levy on Bell who’s now got jets, right? Yeah, to to be on your fourth string quarterback and make a run for Jon Gruden to have all those problems and to make a run, those guys are great coaches.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I mean, you can see that because he was he did, everywhere he goes, he he’s positive, everything he does is positive. And that goes back to that leadership, you know what I mean? You want to, uh, you got to be willing to, you know, get in there and you know, just show them the right way to do it. There’s a lot of different techniques that are the coach, the head coach got to know, every technique of every position, right, you know what I mean? And then he gives it down to the position coaches. And they, they harp on that. And you know, just might be a your reads and you know, when you are in a linebackers back the reeds or the backs, or they look to the garden and go into the backfield. So, if you pick up some kind of tendency that they’re doing, that’s gonna give you an advantage, you know, that’s good. Because you’re not giving them none. Any, you’ll notice that they line up all the way across 11 people cross for the Raiders, and then they they drop back into the zone, or where they gotta go, because you never know who’s got man, the man. And that’s what frustrates my own. And that’s what any defense does, they try to throw off the quarterback make them uncomfortable, you know, give them a good pass rush. And that’s what they were doing. You know, I mean, the Giants did something like that. I think they’d be more successful, but you got to be aggressive. You know, on certain you got you got a lot of different skill players or wasn’t when it was a situation players, right, you know, linemen that are good on the pass rush, or linebackers that have good and bad coverage and stuff like that. But, you know, it’s, it’s, you did everything together, and then you got a game.

Victor Arocho
Well, let me ask your question. For you. And by right, um, yeah, you know, in baseball, right? in baseball, if there’s a fast ball pitcher, and you see him and times, you’re gonna start, you’re gonna start catching up, right, unless that pitcher has a lot of sliders and they can paint the corners. You think that to the point that, you know, this is this third year and they’re starting to say, hey, let me let me start adjusting. Let me not bite on mahone Patrick mahomes is his way of playing football. They’re starting to get used to it because it happened with Michael Vick. It happened. Think about it. It’s gonna happen with

Unknown Speaker
Lamar,

Victor Arocho
Lamar Jackson, is that correct? Yeah, it’s gonna happen with him too, right. I mean, I just personally think those runners are great. And I think that that kid is phenomenal. But if he doesn’t start developing into a drop back passer, you know, those legs don’t last forever.

Unknown Speaker
No, no, I mean, any any any game could be Alaska. You know, man, I’ve seen that. I just keep getting that damn. Zach Prescott and Joe Theismann, that broken ankle and going the wrong. Lawrence Taylor. Lt. Yeah, yeah.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, that is that. I don’t know if it’s true, but I saw him in the blind side the movie but that statement was that because of that. That’s what made the left tackle one of the highest paid linemen

Unknown Speaker
because of what happened with lt, and

Victor Arocho
B Yeah that left tackle. It’s the blind side for right handed quarterback, you get hit by Taylor from the blind side

Unknown Speaker
you know that every position is is critical, but that there that the backside tackle is man he gotta be good. Gotta have good feet. I got good stuff me you got to eat they can actually check out tendencies because the best even Lawrence Taylor had some test tendencies that were exploited but not every every play that on the defense they tried

Unknown Speaker
they try to do better than they do worse. You know what I mean?

Victor Arocho
Right? He was one of I think there was anybody? No, I don’t think there’s anybody that’s gonna ever be like him. I think Ray Lewis was a great is a great linebacker. I’m gonna take anything away from all those guys but I don’t know like, it’s just like Taylor was this speed, you know, speed rusher tackler. You know, like, he just was crazy.

Unknown Speaker
If you watch his feet, and then he watches and sometimes he does a false step. And then he does swim over well due to the grip or he’ll do the bolus. He got hairy reasons. And I mean, reason. Yeah, classic man that I mean, that whole linebacker group. That whole crew was all together. Oh, yeah. That was

Victor Arocho
it was it was Carson. It was Lt. Who was the guy in the midst of face callbacks bank, that dude was awesome. There was a story that he had a binder, like a four inch binder of air re offensive tackle of every offense that he came and he would study as you talk about tendencies. He would study those players in a book, he would just look at him before the game, he would see what they would do. How would they hold their fingers? What’s the normal call? He tried to find out? What was that alignments? tackle call? So yeah, that linebacking crew, and that’s what made Taylor even greater because he was also gifted athlete. But when you got to worry about Harry Carson was a beast. Yeah, it was a beast. No, it was

Unknown Speaker
you know, there would be and they were, you know, they were all together. You know, they did play it all together for a couple of years. And when you’re you’re you get to play around with guys. Even when you have to signal anything, given the local you’re given the finger or whatever. And they know what the deal is. They know what you’re gonna do. Right. Back in our day. We used to had to patch the viewer line back up at the alignments on a button. Which side is going to go Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
You know that there

Byron Jones
are too smart. We didn’t know I left from the right. That’s why.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, we Yeah, I remember that. Now. You got to be careful because this Spygate all over the place right now? Yeah. But the only thing I was talking about with Tom Wilson and the Pittsburgh I don’t mind rooting for Pittsburgh because the giants in Pittsburgh are related. Yeah, the families. The Marin has been in there they’re like in laws. Imagine I was just thinking about this a Kate mirror and her sister both movie stars and I was like magic Marian one of them you go you’re guaranteed to go to one of those two Super Bowls. In fact, Kate Mehra who was in a movie and she had a state that she missed the Super Bowl now she’s got in her her contracts as he’s done well enough that if anytime the Giants or pittsburgher in Super Bowl she’s released to be able to go and tend to Super Bowl

Unknown Speaker
way that would be a good family marriage.

Victor Arocho
You got season you got season tickets for everything. Okay, so what do you we were talking about the Titans right? And what did you think about I feel bad one of the guys on the sports was defensive back as I was. And the defensive back isn’t Alan is an excellent defensive back but he just got Did you see that when he got sick farm? Josh Norman. Josh Norman. Oh, man. Oh, how it is in film when you bust each other’s chops, right? If you get run down if you do something, I can’t even imagine what’s going on in the

Byron Jones
ordinator. Probably played that over and over again. Look at this.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, look at this. Look at

Victor Arocho
it was so bad. I could be well, you know what, I don’t understand. 90% of the time, you know, I wish I would have learned this might have taught me when I was in my senior year of college. You know, you don’t die as a defensive back back then you’re trying to hit them and the whole dorm, but you know, I would rather die. What I see today running and, you know, flying in the air and hitting the legs, so assess him to try to get this guy from his top. Like, I mean, I barely

Unknown Speaker
see

Victor Arocho
any defensive back try to tackle anybody from above the waist.

Unknown Speaker
And that’s what he did,

Unknown Speaker
especially.

Unknown Speaker
But that’s what he did.

Unknown Speaker
Derrick Henry is huge, nice bloke huge,

Victor Arocho
like, white. So why, why did he go so high on it? I mean, I went low and maybe slowed him down, I wouldn’t even have missed them. It wouldn’t look so bad.

Unknown Speaker
For him, leading up to it, you know,

Unknown Speaker
you’ve never really hit him like that. And you’re defensive that you’re coming up, you say, Okay, I’m gonna use the same technique that I’ve done over and over again. There. Henry was from Alabama. And you see how many backs come out of Alabama? Big fast. Good as back what the deal is when they’re a defensive back, you know, he might have went on some smaller guys, and he should have actually took his legs out. God causes body and took the legs out. But when you do go high, see you the results are down. He looks stupid. I’m not in front of the people on TV. But you know,

Victor Arocho
back Don’t get me wrong. I was just First of all, it was it was impressive to see what Henry did. Yeah, but to I was so confused on I really see defensive back trying to tackle any running back much less the size of Henry.

Unknown Speaker
Hmm.

Victor Arocho
Yeah. So anyways, I just wanted to bring bring that up because they’re bringing their overplays in this funny, there’s a defensive back every time it comes on, because shut that off you do it a disservice to them. No.

Unknown Speaker
That’s not fair. shut that off. shut that off.

Victor Arocho
Just it’s an eight. It’s It’s amazing. And you know what I love to though if you see a picture, if you see the photo of Henry on the sideline after the play, he’s just normal face he’s not like, you know, he didn’t get excited about it. He did like Yeah, I did this and that he was just Yeah, he was focused and ready to get the ball the next game

Unknown Speaker
and because he’s done it before, it’s like no Oh, well. Next

Unknown Speaker
Yeah. When this was banned, but voluntee outside and I know that stuff on the right if your right hand you know you could do some damage. You know, you got all that area that you can do, but the defensive back don’t have nothing but uh, they did try to

Unknown Speaker
calculate the speed of that guy. And right.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you think

Victor Arocho
what do you think? What do you think the lineman what what would it happen for you Byron, if after that play and you guys all come back in the huddle for a defensive how

Unknown Speaker
to huddle I

Unknown Speaker
got roasted, got roasted.

Unknown Speaker
Whoo.

Unknown Speaker
How’d that feel?

Victor Arocho
You wouldn’t did that in the next title even though you got to finish this game?

Byron Jones
Yeah. Oh, you Oh, right. Right away. You got to get him. You got to get what happened.

Unknown Speaker
Like it hurt.

Unknown Speaker
Really? I couldn’t I would think you guys were roasted afterwards. You get

Byron Jones
it right. As soon as you go back to the huddle,

Unknown Speaker
if the huddle room when

Unknown Speaker
you know, you walk into the hole.

Victor Arocho
I’m glad that was not me.

Unknown Speaker
You know, back to back in the day, written.

Byron Jones
stored there was a running back.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, yeah. And High School.

Unknown Speaker
Man you back. How big are you?

Unknown Speaker
I’m six foot and it’s come I was wearing 225 pounds. And really,

Byron Jones
that was that was one of the running backs and Mater was back

Unknown Speaker
in high school. Yeah. Gary was new and he was a 220 and really was six foot 185 and then Kenny was 612 24 were

Unknown Speaker
the young guys in high school.

Unknown Speaker
I was 160 pound tight end.

Victor Arocho
I lined up against this guy from JP Stevens where we play they went undefeated.

Unknown Speaker
I liked it. It

Unknown Speaker
was definitely a void because I lined up against this guy my like three points said I couldn’t even get out that guy.

Victor Arocho
I ain’t got no Getting paid as I got in college, but oh my god, I wish I was just my son’s big I wish I was my son sighs and nice, cool. Um, but you know, the NFL is, is definitely happening. What do you think this? What do you think about a vibrant? only get some more your feedback? What do you think about the code you think that’s gonna end because we’re going to go into Tulsa next and they’ve already had two games before? What do you think about the COVID in the NFL, there’s also a couple games already been postponed,

Byron Jones
you figure your college, you got over 100 guys, you’re on each team, the staff, the support staff, and that’s kind of hard to keep track of always gonna be figuring, you know, if you’re playing a game, you know, you don’t want to go have some fun, you want to go see a little girlfriend or whatever, you know, after the game. So you’re going to do stuff that, you know, you really have no business doing and going around people that you shouldn’t be going around during this time. You know, it’s just being young. And know the fact that now that, you know, they’re having five, you know, even the head coach now with Alabama has COVID and then director is out with COVID. And, you know, it’s no, it’s terrible, but you know, people don’t want to listen, you know, put the mask on, like you’re supposed to, you know, social distancing like you’re supposed to, and you know, you’ll be fine. But as long as you keep doing those little things, no, it’s going to keep growing, keep growing, and keep growing. And hopefully, they make it to the end of the year.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, I mean, I know, I’m just one of those people that I think it’s one of those COVID is one of those things is just going to make its way around, you see how some states are really hot, and they went back down and they were hot, they went back down. And I think I heard a study that they believe at least 70% of the world’s going to have to get it before it starts getting its immune. So, you know, unless you’re lucky top 30% it’s just going to be hard. And the sad part is, is that sometimes, like I tell people, you know, if you don’t feel well, if you think you have something, you know, it’s not just about you, it’s about who you can pass it to. Right, because you could pass it to, and then it can reach a couple levels down and affect somebody’s family member. Right. So, obviously my dad’s 85 I’m seeing more than a year, and hopefully, you know, we’re getting everything tested. We’re supposed to go see him for Thanksgiving. But this is killing me. I’ve never gone this long without seeing my dad. My mom passed away a few years ago. So, um, you know, my dad’s 85 and you know, any given Sunday, right?

Byron Jones
They’ll say, my mother’s 25 miles from here. Yeah, I really can’t go over here. You know, the way I want to go visit her either, though, because of what’s going on.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, imagine but that’s 85 beds. He tried to get him on the zoom card. I was just as hard as getting used by.

Unknown Speaker
Oh, really?

Victor Arocho
Now I know why it’s related to you.

Unknown Speaker
There we go. There we go.

Victor Arocho
Hey, I want to show you my co host. Still takes you from Star Trek and flip it up. Me on static.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah. There you go.

Victor Arocho
That’s what they should give the belcheck so we can’t do any Spygate on that thing.

Unknown Speaker
That worked, it worked. It worked really work. It tastes good picture.

Victor Arocho
Tell me about Tulsa. I see Tulsa has got two games. Um,

Unknown Speaker
two games already postponed.

Byron Jones
Yeah, Cincinnati. They were supposed to play the other number ranked No lemons ranked team, they’re supposed to play them. And they had to cancel it because of the COVID second time, so hopefully, you know, to get the act together. And, you know, straighten this stuff up. So it will these kids can play and you’ll finish off the season? And was um, is the postponement due to tell

Victor Arocho
society the other team side or just everything in general? I’m not sure. Yeah, I was reading up I was hearing about saving that.

Unknown Speaker
You know, savings, a control freak.

Victor Arocho
They said he’s on the phone watching from a video everything that’s going on, and he literally will stop practice until he gets it going. Right?

Byron Jones
Well, I said to give the one of the managers has a phone. And so he calls the manager and then I want to see that again. You know, from wherever he’s sitting, you’re watching

Victor Arocho
everything. Like he’s at home, in his luxury house.

Unknown Speaker
Sure. Yes, sure. He’s at home.

Unknown Speaker
He’s up in the skybox skybox. That is

Victor Arocho
alrighty and then I want to talk a little bit about the the NBA Finals. Okay, the NBA Finals only thing i gotta say, I have to give high Byron credit and it kind of bothers me but Jimmy Butler was tired again. I scored 13 points and you know, I wanted to gain seven because you know, when the heat fan and he wasn’t able to do it, I’ll be honest with you. They shouldn’t Gordon, in my opinion, you know when they when we be the Lakers when Jimmy had his 40 is triple double

Unknown Speaker
40 with 70

Victor Arocho
right now I can understand you know Goran being a key factor and and play him I would play them a little bit to get them in but I would have went back to what maybe when the day before Why would you change a game plan? I mean II because you couldn’t have been prepared with a guy who’s injured

Byron Jones
right? Well you figured Jimmy Butler like I said was tired yo

Unknown Speaker
yo he

Byron Jones
blew his leg low to wherever you want to call when he had the triple double and that was the end of that.

Victor Arocho
Yeah, but I go back to I think for me I just think that gore that he should have stuck with that seven man rotation other than BAM I just think Gordon maybe give him a few minutes to be part of it. But I just think that that wasn’t part of that wasn’t the game the other guys were hot you know what I mean? And how do you two days Three days later I don’t know I just it just didn’t make a I love Spoelstra think he’s a great coach but now the discounting the heat for the whole next year. He not even in the running, you know if I would have bet I don’t want but if somebody would have placed the thousand dollars on the heat in the beginning of the season to make the NBA Finals, it was a 71 odds. Oh geez, I’m 1000 bucks. Right? So but they’re not even counting he can you know Katie and Brooke I’m not a big Kyrie Irving fan. I don’t know if you guys like basketball. He like Kyrie Irving.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah, you know, all those guys get paid all that money right? And they always thought about being professional essay. All right now when you’re I’m a professional, I’m a perfect my trade. And if you’re a guard, you got a good ball handling, or you were a forwarder you got your shots, you got your your your point shots, where you go to a certain point you shoot it, and that’s it. And what your defense is what’s going to help you and some of those guys, if you look it’s like everybody is moving. And if you’re on offense, and the guy looks like he’s moving in slow motion on defense, where is the professional ethics of that right there? You know, and if you’re you get you put all that stress on Jimmy Butler. Well, somebody else has got to step up you know what I mean? These guys are paid millions of dollars you know, that’s I ain’t making a million dollars you know, I could but I bought

Victor Arocho
the Veyron isn’t there I was hearing that they like in film that you get like penalized for not continue not running into the whistles bone for what they call it a lag. Slap tax or like in football if they if you stop the penalty they they pedal we analyze you financial. Yeah, yeah.

Byron Jones
guys make me as a dog. You think $1,000 is gonna really bad as it goes, guys.

Unknown Speaker
I don’t know if it’s 1000 Yeah, but if in

Victor Arocho
No, it’s not. But I think it’s a it’s been effective in the NFL.

Byron Jones
They don’t respect the culture. No, it was not a coach. You know that. They’ve basically handpick are they like, No, they’re not gonna do that got played? Well, Charles free. Well, what do you do back in the day, he showed the coach we ever hear somebody doing something.

Unknown Speaker
I never heard anybody talk to the coach before.

Unknown Speaker
He was mean guy

Unknown Speaker
who does that though. He

Victor Arocho
wasn’t there playing they got to a fight with it with a coach who was on the path. I know, you know,

Unknown Speaker
when when you when you get into arguments, you know, somebody’s gotta push somebody and somebody’s got to choke somebody. So would you undo? It happens? You never, you can never predict some behavioral money. Second, the second you start the app, you’ve got brothers and stuff like that. If you or sisters do the arguing, what’s the first thing is going to happen need to go and get in your face and point and you don’t like that? And then you’re going to try to motion back and they’re going to try to push you back. And then that’s what pushed them to show. And we undo I’m glad my family we don’t we don’t get that level.

Unknown Speaker
At that level, either.

Victor Arocho
That’s dangerous. That’s just me.

Byron Jones
I eclip Jones worried about something I wouldn’t

Unknown Speaker
know. Uncle Sonny was messing around. The

Victor Arocho
I don’t know about the carrier. The only thing I don’t I don’t like about him is because everywhere he was he’s at he was always a problem. That Then I’m a big fan I’ma heat cam but I like that Jason Tatum from the Celtics, you guys familiar with it? And Jason Taylor the year before Kyrie got there? I told my son this kid’s a superstar. This kid’s incredible. And then Kyrie get there. I don’t even know who Jason Tanner was. I thought that he was done was when your bus Kyrie leaves. Jason Tatum became a bigger superstar.

Unknown Speaker
You know, you then

Unknown Speaker
Yep, you got a good cast of players, you know, that are dedicated to their position. And they do what they need to do and you know, go to practice. Watch the films, that he tendencies, this is awesome. All this stuff goes into the day that you’re going to place a month up to then when you move when they do the tip off. From the tip off to the last second buzzer beater. You got to go on your own. I mean, you know, Kobe Bryant, and all those guys all our predecessors before them. What they did was they set standards these guys fans are expecting them to do you know, Michael Jordan, man, you know, who’s gonna top him? Then LeBron James comes along. And now you’ve got this big argument about the goat? You know? At what position? Are you talking about the dude,

Unknown Speaker
Kareem Abdul

Unknown Speaker
Jabbar? Yeah, you got all these guys? Who are these? You say that name. And I know you talked about, you say a lot of names. And I know you’re talking about, you know, that name. Their presence precedes them. You know? You got you got talent as a straight talent. Magic Johnson, I you know, watch him do some of the things he did up underneath the basket and then slam it. And what the hell? Where did this come from? You never seen it before. But the first time you’ve seen it, you were impressed. The same like in soccer. It’s like a play doing the wheel kit. Who the hell does that? on TV, and they recorded it. And if you were watching these things happen if you were actually sitting in front of your TV, you watched it. You didn’t go to the sports center and get highlight of it does. I mean, it just did not sat on, you know, it is like, what did this guy come from? What are they getting from? What special technique did he use? Man, it’s the first time he does stuff and you’re astounded. Like, I’ll be damned skies. Good.

Victor Arocho
That’s like that tomorrow that Jamal Murray move. I mean, I’ve never seen that. I mean, he did move like Michael Jordan, which was a great move that move he did drive dribbling, driving, running into a guy bigger than Byron, and literally hitting him and then 360 around them. Because that was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. You know, that was incredible. All right. So we’re getting close to wrapping this up. So I wanted to just I want to make a quick I want to just read this real quick. And then Byron wants you to go on I think Ed, you’ll you’ll enjoy this is this is Byron’s and as a as the the Jones and wrote your show, we want to see if we could make a difference. freedom and security are precious gifts that we as Americans should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hands and times of knee to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show the gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little bit more. Gary Sinise, this is the Gary Sinise foundation. org, you want to talk a little bit about that guy better.

Byron Jones
I’m gonna pass off to the real veteran.

Unknown Speaker
I thought you what you I’m here by military folks, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Oklahoma. Field Artillery. And at five o’clock in the morning, just well, six o’clock in the morning. You get this pride every time you know that’s a raise the flag five or six in the morning, at five at night. I mean, the afternoon. If you’re going on post anyway, you’re on this post. And they do that the introductory. Everybody got to get out of the car and they salute and this the private that is in our army, our military continuance and all that. But the you feel so secure. This is such like a big brotherhood or sisterhood or family. And they look forward to doing their jobs. I don’t care where they got to go to do it. They look forward to doing their jobs because they’ve trained to do it. And I mean, you see these some of the big boys like navy seals and you know all that their range. Rangers, everybody, you know. Yeah, well, you see all Those guys have certain missions that they do. You know, some days you’ll see him in civilian clothes, you’ll see him in civilian clothes and until they got to go somewhere where they got to be a got to be there and on the ground and getting doing whatever you do in 12 hours, and it’ll get paid more in the world,

Victor Arocho
anywhere in the world. That’s how it is 12 hours. So and I mean, to our listeners out there, it’s Gary Sinise. That’s Gary’s No you are why si n i s e foundation.org. through which you can contribute to help. It’s us also for first responders. It’s for our military. And it’s a cause that, you know, Byron, I feel feels very important. So if you could do anything, appreciate it. And I want to say thank you. You’ve been a great guest. I really appreciate it. You know, you’re always welcome to come back on our show. Myron, you want to say something to you or

Byron Jones
your comrade? my wonderful first cousin, guy here. He’s a reason why, you know, I started playing football. You know, they used to beat me up when I was a little guy. You’re playing.

Victor Arocho
Oh, wait, is it ever a little guy? Yeah. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah. Byron, man. Oh, he was always gangly. He always had a lot of competition. And you know, he never gave up. Oh, man. Oh, no, no, there’s two reasons. One is don’t do it. Father Jones.

Unknown Speaker
It? Yeah.

Byron Jones
Yeah, I want to thank all my, you know, my family members. Eddie’s brother, both of his brothers served in military my sister 2520 plus years in Marine Corps retired first sergeant, I was in a military, the guys I used to work with Obama County Sheriff’s Office. Plenty of there. I want to thank all of them for their service.

Victor Arocho
And, you know, Ovenden I went to graduate high school together. Yeah, yeah, we’re college, high school, graduated 1983. The same. And I’d like to say the same thing too. I got tons of family members. And people that I know my father, he’s got the Bronze Star, my cousins were all in the Air Force. Just you know, my brother’s 31 year, retired state police officer, you know, just, I can go on and on, so thankful to them. So I want to just now say, Hey, thank you so much. Byron Jones
It’s been wonderful. You’re glad my cousin was able to come on today. One last little thing out of Washington Redskins, are doing Dwayne Haskins dirty by the modem to third string. That’s what I
