Also, leave us a review on iTunes. Tell us what you like what you think of the show another week. And guess what is this week? It is the college football playoff. Don’t get much bigger than that. The end of what has been just a crazy weird wild season. ups and down travails thick and thin. It’s been it’s been fun this week. And I specifically covered that Pac 12 in the big 10. And we’ve had definitely, I mean, when it was in August, we weren’t having a season looked as if they’re going to postpone it. I guess the spring there eventually they came around. Were able to get the necessary testing. end of October big 10 started beginning in November patchwall started and this is the end of their seasons this week. With one of the teams from one of the two conferences. I cover the big 10 I would say making the boy off. Did Ohio State earn a playoff bid? debatable six No. I’ve seen several games canceled either because other teammate COVID or their COVID I it’s hard to say um i would say i don’t know such a weird year. I think a lot of perception probably played and they were preseason top five I’m pretty much going into the year they are going to be I think one a one B actually with Clemson is gonna be Clemson probably Ohio State number one. And then the other one number two and that was was going to be so then they came in and obviously when they did get started, they started off up there. And they ran all their games. Not I mean only played to really do i mean Penn State which ended up being under 500 Nebraska was under 500 but it was under 500 misconceived was under 500 so technically it was those were very good teams. To get teams they played. They were good Indiana and Northwestern. They beat Indiana by seven at home they beat Northwestern by 12 at a neutral site game for the big 10 championship. They were down in the third quarter to Northwestern they were Indiana had that ball in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie it so they didn’t didn’t really dominate their two games against better teams a run game there it was a Indiana game their defense gear was 500 yards the northwestern game pretty much very the passing game was was very out of sync couple interceptions the first half but feels to land on the running game theory enough they have more talent than anyone else in the big 10 by just significant margin it actually built a team that was it was it in any kind of warranty they possibly had any kind of talent equivalents was Penn State and then when Michael Parsons ended up opting out dirty Brown was hurt for the season and then Noah can first game the season gets hurt hurt the season then that was just a lot to lose that I would say they weren’t in any obviously saw the Start by Penn State they won the last four so they actually came on towards the end but first like games you could just tell that this is a team that almost looked a shell themselves and and that was it that possibly was even close it from a talent perspective when it by my formula or the team talent abaza whichever one you want to use for baseline talent. They didn’t play another team with a top 40 roster in regards to talent is going toward let’s go to towel closet because he does all the teams. I don’t believe I know Rutgers doesn’t. I know Anna doesn’t I know. Northwestern doesn’t. I don’t believe who else I believe Ask us the Redskins top five roster but they’ve been 90 good enough to win season in what is it four years for five years so um long story short ah Ohio State it’s a lot of perception is a lot of preseason buzz and I think they got in that’s what was the joke about the wife this year Can I say can I say that do uneven schedules some teams play more games and other teams by a lot scrap the playoffs should
have been playoff this year it really should have been they should have just played big 10 Pac 12 champion play each other in the Rose Bowl and sugar balls sec champion versus the best or highest and then just allow the media members to vote in in the champion this year. Honestly I think that’s the way it should have been in Alabama a little bit more than champion while they’re probably going to win it fine have Clemson Alabama play against each other in the orange ball? Those are two best teams. I just I just thought that this year of all years cuz Ohio State only really necessary if you just look at their resume and even having walked I wouldn’t have put them probably no, I actually I said last week I actually think that they win the national title. I know it sounds crazy, but I think they have such good talent and I think that they have a good coach and I think that they will they hope their hope reason and predicated for coming back was to play in the playoffs to revenge the loss to Clemson to win the national title and I somehow think they pull it off really pull off the upset over Clemson and then I think they Paul felt upset over Alabama Call me crazy but they have the talent on the roster to do it and I think that this somehow pulls it off. Um I guess in a weird COVID year that’s it that’s that would be what would happen no national champion, but I still don’t think how you could put them in the top four based on their six victories and out and even how they looked at it other than Ohio State they have won works talented rosters golf football and one of the best quarterbacks come back. They have great they’re very prestigious, there have been one of the most successful programs in the last decade plus this century in general. That if you just look look at how they look how they’re playing. I don’t know how you would how they up to pick. I just don’t I really don’t. So but but they are and they got in and then why not? Okay. Well, so I think what the matchup just talked about a little bit about them and Clemson they played last year. I started outside of the better team last year, but unfortunately, they made some key mistakes in third quarter. And they gave a huge couple huge plays. I remember the 70 yard touchdown run by Trevor Lawrence. Honestly, the Lord had trouble consistently passing the ball, but he was able to run he was able to make some plays a big target. Pedal Leon Shawn way to get kicked out of the game was able to lead them back in the drive and then just a couple big plays. And then even when Ohio State drives the field mistake where there was a lot a ran one way and field to the wall. Another way again, intercepting the endzone was able to sign me the possible game when you drive. I thought from a lot of times and for most of the game in the first half, I thought the better team was Ohio State. I stopped at a little better roster overall. But Clemson was able to pull it off comes in and got brought race tickets LSU I thought Ohio State would be a better matchup against LSU they would have a little little more of the jimmies and Joe’s on the defensive side of the ball to maybe slow down that offense. And also I thought that they had the ability to probably in a plausible shootout with fields and when he had on offense, you know, obviously still had a lobby and Wilson and Kj Hill and then the runningback can’t think of his name right now shoot, go play for the Ravens. He was whatever is early second round pick us one best running backs culturable last year. He was a terrific running back better than I think anyone will house a dozen roster this year. I just thought overall that and then it stopped the best defensive end JCR knew the best quarterback in Jeffrey oku. I just thought there was more pieces to last year’s roster. I actually think it was better last year. Um, but it didn’t happen. They didn’t win. And of course something went went off. But only this year obviously I think Clemson is going to be the favor though the team has played definitely more games and they have looked good from Southern last Notre Dame which they’re missing Trevor watch that last bowl race and Notre Dame. They have a good defense. They’ve some talent pass rushers up front if solid defensive backfield if Trevor Lawrence gospel, the best quarterback in college football,
draft city and one of the better running backs college football. And Colossi just kind of a little more of an unknown because they haven’t played a lot. haven’t looked great never game, especially against the better teams. So I can see I totally get why I would fly over Clemson to I just think that Justin fields I think he’s gonna step up and use it makes a big time plays with his feet and with his arm and I think he his guys like Alavi and Garrett Wilson and, and Jackson, the dobro and James Duane, and some of these super elite receivers, make some plays. And I think Clemson does too, but I think it’s kind of a shootout and I think last eight figures all the way to actually get the victory. Um, we’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see how it goes. On the hour. I’m not gonna touch too much on it. Man, when’s the other game but I don’t cover those conferences. But anyways, I think it’s gonna be Alabama versus Ohio State for the national title. So the rest of the big 10 because I didn’t talk about the big 10 last week, obviously I had Chris coordinated from the whole flock of ducks talk was about Oregon and I think I cover I have more people I’m in touch with on the basketball side because I’m typically an Oregon fan. So I have one more piece of people that I know that tie itself, but the big 10 I’ve not been able to get anyone to talk a little bit more about them. Um, the games that they have coming up first of all, I will again vs Missouri was cancelled. So that’s not happening. I believe that was supposed to happen. 31st patient illness was happening seven. No, no, no, no, they’re supposed to happen on the 30th so that’ll be a pretty good game. I canceled um let’s see what games are coming up for the big 10 I don’t think the big 10 has played in anything yet. On back to such a wonky boom bowl season. This was a couple games though. I liked enjoyed the Louisiana versus tech, Texas San Antonio and I don’t often said this before my show. I am an alumni of Liberty University. I played not just alumni. I actually played probably show preview last week. I played for liberty. I played on the 2005 and 2006 Liberty teams. They were FCS it wasn’t called FCS yet it was division one double A our biggest rival was Coastal Carolina. I played them as both a junior and senior. We lost in overtime as a junior and they were really good. They were like 10 and one we were one in 10 and Coastal Carolina made the division one away playoffs. But we took them to overtime when I was beat them at our house. And that team had Tyler Thigpen for Coastal Carolina. He went on to play for the Kinsey chiefs a little bit and for the Minnesota Vikings drum Simpson who second round draft pick played for the Bengals for a while. Mike Tolbert who if it wasn’t COBOL or for the San Diego Chargers now the LA chargers they’re a good team it’s a good place and then the next year we played them in coastal once again we’re better than that my senior year we fired all staff hired new staff my senior year we were six and 574 so the lie that was second the big self but once again coastal one it still a big fan and those guys but it was a really close game I think was like 21 I have golf memories like 2116 maybe we had a chance to get the ball back to the end remember I missed tackle I showed a really good game my senior year as well my best game senior year and again like seven I clarify I played defensive end I played a lot in college in junior college as a linebacker and then I ended up playing and liberty and I was actually a running back in high school but anyways, um I played and I think had like seven tackles and got like sack and couple tackles for loss. So I’m pretty game that game but we were not able to win coastal went on to the playoffs again. So they went to play us both years that I play there. And then after that Liberty was a big one, like what after I left, I think Liberty one three or four in a row in the Big South and it need to be coastal every year. And it also came back in one one and then another year. They were gonna play coastal was really good Liberty was okay but I can’t believe it was a chip It was a chemical or something like all of a sudden like Liberty was like six and fives like 2013 maybe Liberty was like six and five
but in the Big South they’re like foreign one or something and and i think Kosta was like 11 and oh, but they were like, five and oh, but Liberty beat him to beat him like in overtime and they actually ended up getting an automatic way to the FCS playoffs through FCS at that time and remember that was the end they actually have gone to like the semi finals the FCS playoffs they lost like Villanova Liberty did, but as a whole when they we played in the FCS and wonderful a closer was a lot better for the most part I think Liberty probably only made FCS or one Herbalife louse once or twice wholesale made it pretty much every year maybe okay they wanted a couple years of me then Liberty one like three big South but I still think close to like gotten in one year and then all of a sudden the big sale started getting an automatic bid they didn’t have an automatic bid and then coastal got the first couple and then finally Liberty beat them to get one so anyways long story short on liberty and coastal but each other coastal was undefeated Liberty had one loss and liberty one went over time I’m I’m proud of both I’m probably on the water they’re 10 and one and eight this year and they’ve won their bowl game and I think they’re gonna fish the top 45 and
protocols so you know they’re
undefeated they were number 12 team mate some people thought they should make it to your six so pretty pretty impressive story for both those programs your FCS programs few years ago and a lot eyes give me a Liberty guy but I also respect the cross allows arrival So anyways, I’m gonna wrap drove back to my so so that was always gonna play into I think the big 10 isn’t playing a very many either their first game for the big 10 will be December 30 Wake Forest versus Wisconsin. Who knows honestly who knows how inspired Wisconsin is going to be they lost a lot of games due to COVID there are three and three was not a very good year maybe we’ll try to come out there go into next year because I think they have a lot coming back oh Wisconsin into that program than wait but just never know our people will be inspired there’s nothing that many bowl games this year so many games have been canceled so many teams opted out you just don’t know what you’re going to get like even like I’m so I’m looking while I’m doing that I might as well just touch on four versus Oklahoma Florida has his best wide receivers best runningback best tight end best one of the best defensive backs all opted out and they have to go against Oklahoma and Oklahoma has people playing either for more than that easily because you to me guys often now which is just unfortunate. It’s been happening the ball games in general but this year especially because the COVID people are just like you know what? I’m gonna go off to the AFL. Um It’s been a tough year cause trouble and I might be able to touch on that a little bit later. However some jury cancel doesn’t force the AI well they actually had a better season than many people thought on January 1 on the big 10 does play one game they’re playing in the citrus ball citrus bowls on the first and is on ABC is Auburn versus Northwestern otter definitely has mortality but the issue is awkward is plain not what the sharp end quote was. Sorry coach um they obviously fired Gus moles on they’ve been hired Brian Larson Parson won’t be the coach this game will be Kevin Steele. You just never know if that’s true Nick, he could really get them out there and hyped up and ready to go. Or, and I think also Auburn has several guys off to now so I’m going to lean Northwestern in that game. I think they’ve had a pretty good year. They were okay so so when I talk about the big 10 in general the big 10 obviously the you know the season postponed and then you had to play nine games and nine weeks and and they ended up with a plus i Chad after did the math I have that equals 12 cancellations. I know that they ended up the average being 7.1 games for playing So it was a nine game season nine weeks. The average when you add it all the teams together 7.1 games are played. So an average of 1.9 games are canceled. It’s unfortunate and then you had guys opt out for like a lot of teams. So I think you teams like Michigan to and for Penn State four and five, Wisconsin three, three, a lot of really good teams didn’t have good seasons. Just the walk Enos the cancellations and postponements it really just provided not very good football for a lot of teams. So that was unfortunate. And some other teams did well. And the teams that did well, or teams, I think have very a really well coached and really good cultures. And they took advantage of Hey, you know what, we’re just going to remain steady. We’re just going to be awesome. And you saw that with Indiana six and one Northwestern, seven in no six sorry, six into and Iowa six and two, I say were the three teams that handled it Well, were able to just kind of remain themselves and just play consistent ball and and they were the teams that had the best seasons. Oh, Utah, Minnesota, and there are three and four with another team that had a lot of OPT outs and just did not look as good as I thought they were going to be. I mean, when you talk to the beginning of the year, you had Ohio State, obviously top five you had Penn State top 10 team you had Michigan top 20 you had Wisconsin top 20 and you probably had Minnesota top 45 Well, Minnesota is below 500 excuse will 500 Penn State was below 500 and Wisconsin was 500 so you just see that teams did not play very well. They didn’t you saw that in the big data in the PAC 12
and I’ll touch on that ah anyways
in
the hot seat since I mentioned it I have seen just has so much talent and they had a really experienced quarterback and they just have like probably just the best guys out there but as a whole didn’t look that great. It wasn’t a great year looking here six games for Ohio State and if they go out and just nope very good again lusso Clemson I would not be shocked I’m picking them slightly for further but I think there’s a possibility with that talent do I but in my heart of hearts I could see more being Clemson and Alabama but I also could see Ohio State just looking very good and just it just been one of those games no I say get blown out but they just don’t want good news. And that would kind of be a fitting into the big 10 and Pac 12 schedules because unfortunately, the administrators postponed it and pretty much canceled the season and I just think that it then pushed this kind of abbreviated season into place. And they just didn’t I as a whole I just did not think they looked very good. So he really for the most part did a couple teams that probably normally would not look that good, but took advantage of the Waukee season was like Northwestern so anyways mostly short Northwestern I picked to win that game a cherry second Mississippi in Indiana play in the the outback, Indiana, I’m not gonna say that I’m super like, Oh yeah, I’m just really strong about that. But um, yeah, we’ll go in here in that game. I think they’re better than Mississippi budget and it’d be a good ending, Indiana Actually, I kind of wish they have gotten to the sixth game. I wish they actually been given the Fiesta Bowl berth versus over. I will state because it’d be big 10 versus Pac 12 which is kind of the classic leaders matchup along with the fact that you know, there were six in one and they’re only losses by seven points at Ohio State. I I will say look solid, but you know, they lost a Louisiana they lost oklahoma state. So in in in in one of their victories ended up losing the rematch. So I just thought maybe that I would have dropped them to 11 and put Indiana at 10 in the area spot. just my opinion. I think Indiana versus Oregon would have been a little more interesting game. Now Indiana does have their starting quarterback detours ACL for the year so they are playing the backup. And that makes me even wonder what they’ll look like it’s because they’ll have to score. Even though I’ve pretty good defense. I have scored specific because this is the Buell score. Maybe you’re able to score enough, we’ll see. Um, that’s it. That’s it nurse, if I’m Less, I’m clearly missing something after I was out there game canceled. The big 10 only plays in three games, they’re pretty much as bad as well, I didn’t realize that. Okay, so then four games, they got one canceled, so they it’ll only get end up playing three knock on wood. And the big 12 only plays to soul. So we see So, so this will do the math. I mean, Ohio State could play, but 7.19 other later, but anyways, they will basically end up to when all said and done, they will be brought because the PAC 12 had seven games and seven weeks stated up having the game 5.3 completed. It was the mean average for the conference. Which was 1.7 loss. So actually, they did a little better than the big 10. But they also played to us games. And that pretty much they were 1.8 games last and then if they’re playing one more game, we’ll probably end up basically two. And that’s because they started two weeks less and I think in hindsight 2020
I kinda was like, Oh, the patch will give them more time to get guys ready. But honestly, I think they should have just played started season October 30 I mean, because there were a week later get going then the big 10 but they should not start Aveda should start October 31 it would have been able to get in or at least probably have been have one more game. I mean, they probably would have the same amount of cancellations. So I don’t know why the extra week really what good that did because get teams ended up getting, like an like an average of almost two games canceled for the whole conference. And some teams like Arizona State Washington Cal we played four games. So they ended up getting three games canceled. So I realized wall started a week before and if the teams couldn’t do it, like I heard is the California teams. Well, then they should have just scheduled them to play each other on November 7, and then schedule other teams play each other. So like or schedule some of them out and West because they ended up allowing non conference games anyways, it just didn’t. It was just so reluctant leadership out in the PAC 12 it was not great, the big 10 the big 10 weeks when they decided got going in October 24 was when they actually decided hey, we’re actually going to do a season which is like was like middle ish and dish September, the NFL is a rather big Pac 12 and a bigger problem because of restrictions and sending guys home parties should just like just go we’ve reduced season just go because attic as as it ended up being you just ended up getting less games in when you probably could have gotten another game or two. And the big 10 didn’t have this problem we actually could have because technically Ohio State, they changed the protocol for electricity because you’re supposed to get played over six conference games in order to get into the championship game and they only play five, but then they ended up changing it because they said they want to edit for CDI, which is true. So therefore they were eligible to play so because if they would have voted wonky, just as wonky as a PAC 12 what ended up happening with Pac 12 was you had the South Division champion beat USC and now one was a little more clear cut but then call Oregon and Washington were supposed to play for the PAC 12 North Washington cancel because of COVID. But because a three in one record versus organs three and two they were the bat 12 North champ well course the patchwall being the billion individuals that they are announced Washington versus USC for the backdrop championship. Well, they just canceled versus Oregon. You’re sure they can play the back row championship they should have just maybe waited and seen the wall unfortunately what if because, fortunately, Washington couldn’t play so therefore Oregon wins and it would have been smeared said they go ahead and now it’s Washington versus USC or you know, so the media pushes out the matchup and TVs highlight the matchup and it’s posted on Pac 12 network and all the social media and on Fox and and then days later like fortunately they can’t play but Oregon now is going to explain the return so they never was like that well crap the team did they’ve lost two games and and then you look at it and you’re like yeah, well that’s kind of weird. You know, once you get placed the backup display for championship, and then perfect style, or did bcyc so then the backup champion is winning. So it just made the PAC 12 look like all so hackery it what they should have done is just never announce Washington and they will look A little more fluid instead of like Oh, the name of the place the backup place and then Oregon one was everywhere the media was like this is crap it should have just crowned USC and I’m like everyone was really worried about USC playing in the championship game well wonder why because you will see it barely won like three other games like Arizona State last minute Arizona last minute UCLA last 16 seconds. Me they could easily been two and three so then people were really this five at all might not have been legit and then they lost the seven but Oregon was had the whole game I wouldn’t say it was ever I mean it was a two score game most of the game is at the end or is off the top doing really a lot so then to give you a chance but really was not that close the game. I thought Oregon was in control for most of the game. They just weren’t weren’t able to just knock them out of the park cuz I really don’t think Oregon’s that good this year. I think I talked about that with Chris Courtney last week getting Oregon. And so this is Oregon’s one of the only two teams playing in the bowl game.
And what I think of Oregon is, is they had a lot of expectation, they won the PAC 12. Last year, they won the Rose Bowl, they finished the top five team. And I think if everyone would have come back that was supposed to Oregon would have been pretty good. It like so they would have played their original schedule. Like they had Ohio State coming out. And I don’t think they would have beaten Ohio State. I just I think with a new quarterback, who I now have seen this year, and did COVID affect his play out Oh, but he’s been inconsistent. He Tyler show, we talked a lot about it with Chris. He was very, very inconsistent this year. He had good moments early on, he made mistakes in every game. last two games, he really hasn’t any good moments, he’s been pretty much just not very good. Um, so that knowing that, you know, but then if you did today, so the best offensive tackle, you probably could have really relied upon the run game because they ran pretty decent, even with all new starters on the offensive line. Um, and then defensively, the feeling makes you so defensively there will be lost leadership. But some of the guys they lost. They also did give up some passing. They did give up stuff and Eddie rose and jevin Holland, who’s going to be a second round pick to opt out, though there was some some of those games were there there was with the tight ends. And guys in the middle of the field, we’re able to make a lot of plays a win games, I think specifically was Washington State. Oregon State to a certain extent even cow a little bit. But actually the bigger problem early in the year was just not lack of pass rush to have enough that does doesn’t have a ton to do with D backs may get better coverage. You can let the passers get there but they would forget much of a pass rush. And then the run game they were the the line was getting just moved to was getting moved consistently. They weren’t being very, there wasn’t a lot of physicality, the line of scrimmage, and I just thought that looked a little flat would have been different. And I know some of the guys that opt out. I follow on social media. I wouldn’t say that they seem super amped at play this season. There seem to be sort of COVID. So I but then again, once again, I’ve decided that I’m saying that maybe COVID wasn’t as much of an option. I just don’t know if Oregon and I and as I’ve talked Courtney about they have the youngest roster in college football, they have 79% of their scholarship guys are underclassmen, that’s freshmen and sophomore. Only 21% are juniors and seniors. The mean in college football stays in the 30 to 35% range. And when you get over 35 you have a pretty senior would it be call a senior roster 20% is young. I mean as well below the mean. And that’s why it’s the other softer, some of the Indian those guys I think I added those four to in there and added a 27% what’s still below the mean, you still have a new would have had a new starting quarterback because Justin Herbert went off to the NFL, you still have four new starters on the offensive line. You still wouldn’t have the situation where the phone seven was not playing as well. And part of that because they lost all four year starter Troy guy who’s now a linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings. I don’t know if Oregon would have been quite as I think they were getting a little overhyped. I don’t think they’re quite at where they should be. Like, I know how they recruited.
I know the baseline talent roster. They were like about 13 and my friends Going into the season, there were 12 and 13 panel composite by 247. I think what formula when you talk about the OPT outs, they lost some points, I think they’re about 15. They’re really not the same. But this is a top 15 roster, but it was top 15. Young. Like and when you looked at most of the top, when you look at the top tier players in the roster, the top five stars, the top 50 guys, the top 100 guys, I think they were almost all freshmen and sophomore, except for a couple. There’s like a couple of words maybe like two, but I think of like the top 15 players I think like 13 of them are freshmen and sophomore, and I and came on tibideaux mckeel. Right. I’m Noah Sewell and those are the guys actually played the bass game on tibideaux was all Pac 12 by the pff all Pac 12 by the coaches all taxable by the Associated Press third team all American by the Associated Press McHale right was all patchwall by the coaches and by the Associated Press. No school was a freshman Defensive Player of the Year he was an app by the athletic and by 247 sports. He was freshman all American he was third team all Pac 12 by pro football focus, he was honorable mentioned. So actually the highest rated players think that a level but when your best players are freshmen and sophomore normally that’s not going to be a team that’s going to compete for class really isn’t and actually does lack talent and that’s why I thought they’re gonna go six No, that’s what I thought more than anything. I thought more than anything was just stuck. The lack of talent in the PAC 12 just lacked good teams. Well, they ended up losing the last game of Oregon State and pretty much lost more weight in seconds to cow and then when the other four games including beating the USC team in the PAC 12 championship, and they get a chance to play for a festival title or if they end up five and to repair champions festa there are only two losses were a couple last second victory last second losses teams should they should lose do we shouldn’t lose those teams. But it just is not. It was not I’m gonna be someone who’s a glass half full meaning this was a young team. All your best players are really young. You’re better upperclassmen all last and you lost your starting quarterback who’s in the NFL and you’re starting linebacker who’s Nana FL and several several offensive linemen I just think next year is actually probably was a more reasonable like okay for for instance next year you never know what happens in this transfer portal and guys transfer left right but next year Oregon as of now would return and believe all their starters on the offensive line. They would return their starting quarterback in Louisville kind of inconsistent in need to watch out because they’re actually bringing in a five star quarterback that being said he would still be a true freshman one of the best true freshmen in the country it’s still true freshmen still be a freshman I’m better five star so put that one out there
um but
they probably return the new quarterback they’re returning they’re starting running back to returning
to
they started because of COVID they had several guys starting like wide receivers a little influx they had probably four or five guys start with a returning a couple of them they’re returning one of their tight ends and once again same thing COVID Dhondup but and one of the tight ends for sure coming back and starting so then returning I think roughly on offense once again weird year. So it’s tough to know like what guys started three or more games I consider returning starters. I believe Tableau had 45678 starters and offense and then on defense. The return came on tibideaux who’s going to be probably the best edge guys where we’re going to preseason all American they returned Noah schools in probably a preseason all Pac 12 guy Isaac Slade matches to who was a real mention of actual guy was also second table by 12 by pro football focus. He’s probably going to become an all Pac 12 guy he’s coming back probably on the kale right it’s probably the best corner in the pack a PAC 12 coming back on loss factor then their return starters, safety positions. Um, I believe all three Jamal Hill who was the actual Player of the Week for his performance in the PAC 12 championship, he comes back. Um, so I think God defense returning for I think four or 567 starters on defense and eight stars and offensive return 15 to 22 starters. That’s as of now you know, know what I mean. And they had a top 10 recruiting class 2019 that a top 15 recruiting class 2020 the time three five stars and then this year, they’re the number six class so We top 10 level classes in a row. And a lot of returning production next year is a team that I actually think is more likely to probably treat to exceed expectations that people I put on this year’s team. I think this year’s team was probably a little overrated. It’s after the rothaus they were definitely overrated. Ah, they like I think they were I was seeing I do a mean of like, 15 different sites, what their preseason ranking, I think they’re coming in about nine, for the preseason, now might have been slightly overrated. But when the all the OPT outs happen, and gay still came in, I think in the initial AP came in, like 12, or 13, that was a little high, I think there should have been more like 20. I don’t know if I said this as much because I am a glass half full, I look at things very positively, I usually have to talk myself into seeing things more. Like if I’m looking at a picture and I’m rooting for someone, I’m going to see it 65 to 70%, positively in 25 to 30. I’m just I always have these arguments that I have in my in my basket. Well, there’s this what like Like, for instance, if I will argue against next year, the quarterback position, he wasn’t consistent, will he be better, and if he’s not better, they are probably going to be starting to true freshmen. That is the most important position. If they go on to Ohio State, let’s say that game happens, who knows what COVID could totally see next year where they decide to do like a two year thing with COVID. And because of the influx of the weird scheduling, that they go all conference schedule again next year could see it. Who knows, but just just just want to possibly thinking that they because usually schedules are kind of reciprocal every two years. And I think you could do that and just say, well, the two year run of those cups can be a saga. That’s possible. We’ll see. Anyway. Um, but they don’t have to say it’s second season with a freshman quarterback or quarterback and Tyler shuck that, you know, he plays in the bowl game still in consistent plays the first game next year and he’s still you know, still there like I mean, totally shocked. Did you second team all Pac 12 by Mercury News and by the AP. So some people and no, probably no, he was but but um, some people thought he was
okay. I mean, he was second in yards. He was second passer rating. He probably statistically was the second best quarterback in the conference, but just look at the eye test. And he also was playing probably the best offensive coordinator is your words best offensive tornador in the PAC 12. And he probably was playing still one of the more talented probably, I called her wide receiver tight end passes she Republic’s third best in the back walls, behind USC and Stanford, but in in a decent running back room. So I just, I think the jury’s still out. Shocking that that would be a question mark. And the other question mark would be, well, the offensive line was a little bit inconsistent, but they’re all coming back. A lot of them actually received accolades. Like go back to the conference, ASCO accolades and I kind of like the Pro Football focus because they like actually grade each and every player on and on the play for play basis. So when they say this guy was this, then I’m like well, well, they had Ryan walk the guard was second team. Alex foresight center was third team Steven Jones the tackle was 13 and it’s still so the handsome guys are great. Agreed I’ll go to bed they’re also all come back. I think there’ll be better and they signed a legit class. Now I don’t necessarily want to count true freshmen but he’s assuming a tie as a five star. So I may if I start to come into play for they sold it. And they sent some other guys are pretty good. Bam. Walden out of Vera. Arizona was the top 100 guy. So I think Oregon will be pretty good now offensive line. They returned a lot of good, some good receiving talent and they also recruited well so so. So the thing is, you have the good guys come in. They’re kind of stars but then you have some young talent. They can come in play some reps and get that’s a positive the returning probably under certain running back Travis die he’s been pretty good and Shawn dollars also a pretty good against USC um it’s a pretty good offensive line in the return everyone’s touring quarterback returning several stars on the wide receiver and tight end position and you’re recruited well and returning right back I think the opposite was pretty good and then defensively Your turn the best edge guy and maybe America especially the conference um you return the best probably cover corner and the conference of two of the best linebacker probably would be the best overall duo there’s some other good linebackers in the PAC 12 but like duel of Isaac’s they match see and Noah Soules by the bass returning duel, good linebackers, good edge guy. Some experienced safeties have robust corners and once again they’ve recruited good those positions it’s a pretty good defense for you get on offense, but not a it comes down to other teams. Washington is returning a lot of the rest players so they actually announced that they’re coming back so Washington could be pretty good Oh, I did the rest of North seems like good but we lost Cal this year. Um Who knows? I mean calss invited me to be honest with you most of their best foot me as a member they get an extra year of eligibility and someone like how would they only played four games I could see the boss we going back even Washington when I think of why a lot of guys are coming back they only played four games. I only playing for games could be very much a driver to bring guys back. Um,
I wasn’t gonna do that anyways, um, it’s a wash day probably for good. I really don’t think UFC is going to be that good next year. Why do I not think us easy to be that good next year? Well, they’ve already had a couple guys declared for the draft. They also have had a couple other guys transfer already. This is just been a week. There’s rumors that other guys are going to declare and there’s also rumors that other guys are going to transfer on packs off Defensive Player of the Year telling them a fun guy I think he goes pro Ahmad Rossi all conference all Pac 12 wide receiver on Wednesday brown I think he goes pro alijah very tough girl conference he did go pro um I think there’s a decent possibility molecule a Supra who is at all Pac 12 defensive lineman I think he might go pro and then there’s several other guys who didn’t either play very much and they’re technically seniors they could come back for another year. Take a running back Stephen Carr former five star four star Josh follow. I don’t think they will come back because they really would not utilize last couple of years and they were highly regarded. I have a hard time seeing them come back and I’ve already heard that they aren’t Marquis step who was a four star running back did transfer because he was not being utilized very much screw that I’m out of here. Ah, they also did someone else transfer out. Within McClay maneuver planes brother transferred out he was a legal linebacker paopao go YouTube is a five star linebacker he transferred out. So between transfers, NFL app draft entries, and then they’ve signed a number 25 in 2018, which was not up to par and they signed the number 64 class in 2019. Sorry, Chelsea, it was 22,020 was 60 there were 64 rayglass. I think a couple bad classes. Um, all the higher rated most productive players have you to hire some hire guys who haven’t gotten enough play haven’t gotten an opportunity they’ve turned to transfer now. The more productive higher rate guys are all going to the draft. I used to assign a pretty good class this year, it’s probably gonna be top 10 but they’re all true freshmen. Coming back, Keaton slovis who honestly was pretty darn inconsistent. I know he was all Pac 12 quarterback and most of I believe they pee every the coaches. But he was not that good. He threw in three interceptions in the actual temperature. If he was coupled against UCLA, he had he had bad when he gets out he just wasn’t that good. He really wasn’t that good this year. He comes back, be losing a couple your best receivers in several years off running backs. Use your best offensive lineman. You’re losing probably your best defensive lineman your best D back. Um, and then the guy they returned like a guy Drake Jackson on the edge, they return like a slow VISTA returns. reikland is one of the best wide receivers in the conference. But other than that, they’re returning the top production. And then they didn’t recruit for a while. So I think they’re gonna be certain last two freshmen. Well, not a lot. Not very good, upperclassmen and your best players are going to be your true freshman. For a team that always underachieved under clay Helton, I mean even this year, they should have won the PAC 12 they lost the championship game to Oregon last year eight and four or a five year before or five and seven year before that do 11 and two they won the PAC 12 they really didn’t look good all year and they did get blown out by Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl I don’t want to be his last year next year because I don’t think they’re gonna be very good I want blah blah blah very good. I’m thinking it’s a six and six USC team and clowns done because at that point I just think the writing on the wall and honestly probably should be done but they’re keeping them around ah but they have done some guys in the portal as well so sofr former top 50 guy with Alabama keyword UFC xavion offered a highly regarded five star strike force our from Texas he transferred in like I said, Bill have some some guys that are talented, but most of the productive players are gone. And most of the more high rated guys are going to be true freshmen.
So if you’re expecting USC to be just awesome next year. I don’t think they’re gonna be I think this is going to be a pretty tough year for USC. And I think it will be Hilton’s last season while they fire him now. inevitable. I think whoever takes over next year will be a little bit of a tougher job. But uh, we’ll see. And then who are you told me pretty good. Since we’re bringing up Utah horrible news. horrible news. All Pac 12 Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Year Ty Jordan. Terrific. I saw him play against Washington’s on play against Colorado. Just stud unfortunately passed away. It’s not known totally I know. I know that some reports but I tell I do full investigation. I’m not gonna respond to that. But unfortunately, he passed away. That’s just tragic loss on human life of loss. And hopefully you knew Jesus and he’s in heaven. But he was there. I mean, they had a couple other running backs kit, the transfer portal because he ended up leaving and because he was he was just the studs, so they’re getting any carries. So utilize that to worry about it just for anyone to talk about that video is usually pretty good, though. And they had some pretty good transfers and Charlie Brewer who started at Baylor transferred in Quinta Jackson, who was a for top 100 guy who went Texas he transferred in so they have some pretty highly rated quarterbacks coming in, they have recruited better than actually mostly into the PAC 12 call a guy Williams one of the better coaches. Devin Lloyd is probably the best returning linebacker in the conference. They have some really talented young D backs a guy like Clark Phillips a top 50 guy. If they’re a team that could be pretty good next year. They they I would say I trust them in itself. The other one is Arizona State Arizona state who knows them i mean they’re tuned to this year they went through a lot of issues the COVID um, they have recruited pretty well big guys the Salt Lake kids assault play this year. Some of the guys are pretty touted some of the receivers I didn’t think were that good. I didn’t think Jean Daniels look this great. You want to play four games, but I was thinking even his freshman year and what I saw him in four games. I think he’s a little overrated. I think he’s a little inconsistent as a passer. Um, he’s obviously a terrific runner. I just don’t think he consistently is a great passer. But he’ll be I guess, Junior next year, um, and they have some good pieces they need to lose. This guy’s gonna fall short. coswell and oh laughs john Jones left. I think they lost another like defensive lineman. Oh, could you tell I pick up on the south and then I wouldn’t say Oregon, but in Washington, you pretty good next year, they’re gonna be pretty good. Pretty good defensively, as all their best offensive guys did come back. Not only the office is very good. They’re pretty good line. They have a really good cadence going back tight end. receivers have done a lot. Their running backs were a little inconsistent. The quarterback at intake was great for games. He was okay. They did sign five star Sam Hayward. he possibly could start once again true freshmen. I but I think there’s enough I trust them defensively. They do who’s the guy like Elijah molden. But I did make quite quite a bit they were not bad. There were three and one you know, I think washington dc but I would still favor Oregon. And I would say Utah if I was gonna say top 25 going into next season and I’m gonna go into this more. Totally what I’m talking about what am I doing? Okay, I’ll stop. There is unfair, Oregon, it probably Washington Utah. The three top I will produce the interpretive I’m next year. I don’t think they’re gonna be that good. I really don’t. It’s far away. And I think clay Helton gets finally fired up the two ball games. Normal Texas versus Colorado. Great story Colorado for one Caldwell coach at the end of back 12 are their only losses to Utah. I don’t think they’re that good. Um, I just don’t
I think they’re, you know, they took advantage of a bad year in the PAC 12 with all of the cancellations and only playing four or five games. He did do it for those five games. I don’t think they’re great team. Their best linebacker who was probably the best linebacker this season or him with Lloyd was was made neck landmann arm he is out with an Achilles injury. Ah Ajax is more talented and Tom Herman one usually places bowl games either Louisiana or Texas. That probably helps. But he gets his teams up for that game. He’s played dirty street or bowl games. I think they will play pretty good in taxes. I’ve a they’re significantly significantly more talented than Colorado. If Texas wins that game, then the second game is I will state vs. m. Oregon. I kind of talked against Ohio State I thought maybe they shouldn’t get in the game but I would say have a pretty good year. They’re eight and three. I think Matt Campbell is one of the best coaches. I need to have a great running back in Brett brace please Hall. I think they have a solid experience quarterback. I think they do some good things and defensive good linebackers and rows kid I saw him he’s a good linebacker. There’s safeties that know make plays. I need to I need to just solid they don’t make a lot of mistakes. They play fundamentally good defense. They play smart, efficient offense. Don’t think they’re talented. I know they aren’t talented. I think overall they don’t have a ton of explosive playmakers. I don’t think they have a bunch of dynamic dynamic pass rushers I don’t think they have that old left tackle right tackle they can just shut down one side. But they’re good team. Oregon has been inconsistent. They’ve lost it to number a good teams organ Satan count, but I still think the more talented and I still think it came on paper a place to his level and no asuma plays to his level and Tyler shuck and actually get out of this funk he is in a co op made place. I think this is a favorable matchup from just a jimmies and Joe’s standpoint, but I love Matt Campbell as a coach and he will have his guys prepared and if it comes down to play call here and there and just knowing how to manipulate a game to take advantage of either taking away a possession or gaining possession or or just doing the little things I trust Campbell one and crystal ball I just do a crystal ball can be outcoached. I think in this would be a game that you will be tested because Matt Campbell can damn coach. He can utilize what he has to a very, very good extent. And but I also think Oregon is a team that he Marcus wall has gotten his team up for big games. If it’s a rivalry game against the Stanford or Washington or USC. If it is a bowl game against a couple of years. He’s playing the bowls in Michigan State one year and Wisconsin another his teams have played pretty well. They have been for the most part pretty up for the the big game. The Pac 12 title games arm when it comes if you’ve talked about why every and Pac 12 title games and bowl games, I think it’s Christmas like nine and one in those kind of games. So he tends to get his guys up, I think the young team, they won the PAC 12 even though they were supposed to be there, and then all of a sudden they get to go to a bowl game, it’s a near six ball, I think he can get these guys up. And I think if they play to their abilities, I think that they have the better team, the better overall talent. And if I was staying, despite the great year, remember, they remember six their chance to win the big 12 championship but they lost could that just be one of those just kind of where the team just knocked down a little bit. And even though it’s a great coach, they come up just a little flat will then draw a little fat and Oregon does have the more talent roster and they’re able to utilize what we just won the championship for here. And then come on, make a couple big plays, this couple of big plays could make a difference in the game. It could be it all of a sudden they jump out to 14 Oh lead force turnover kind of did you get to your seat, it really was they jumped on your seat got up 14 to zero, and USC, even those 14 seven even those 21 four, they always stayed ahead because they jumped out if they all just jumped on with state and just reach out to this lead. And then maybe even they come down to earth and I will say just to see you as they start playing very efficient ball but they had that big day of that 14 point lead
that might be enough and that’s almost why I kind of see it kind of see Oregon coming out. Maybe dropping a big player later the next series, do a quick three out get apart a big pot return the taste of deep and I would say territory, then able to jump on them and also 14 nothing just like that. And then you know then I would say kind of settles in it’s kind of able to play their game, but then they’re always kind of playing from behind. And they’re not really a team that does that maybe a couple mistakes by party doesn’t quite allow them and it ends up being one of those like 3124 victories but really the game was one buy the covers couple possessions. That’s what I could see. Um, will that be what happens that’s what I’m predicting. I think we’re good wins and we’ll go through what we’re for. That’s what I predicted predict that they do come out kind of amped up make a couple big plays really early jump out to a 14 zero read and I will stay even though it’s like 14 717-717-1424 14 I think that Oregon’s able to stay enough ahead able to make enough plays forced a couple turnovers maybe in I will say driving in their territory be able to force turnover because pretty Walter mauler but Phil shock shock will during longer do and I will say it’s good at forcing turnovers guy was state’s good at taking advantage and make make another team make mistakes so it’ll be an interesting game go to Oregon and that is pretty much one oh have anything kind of want a rabbit trail. Um I will be talking probably next week about the game that happened I might have a guest on I usually have a guest on every wonder like 233 weeks I have one on and then I probably will start dropping into the recruiting I’m going to do my 2000 I’ve done a team tell formula. I did it 2019 teen tell formula 2020 I’ve already got the groundwork 2021 I made changes to from 2019 2020 I’m going to make a couple of little small changes I was gonna make bigger I was gonna get really specific but decided I kind of like a little more like not not so like a data point like step like not to a I guess team talent composite kind of like each and every value but more like a value in a range. It’s been pretty accurate my teams have very different than the team towel closet been a little differences here and there. So I’m interested to see how it lands this year. What teams are going up I kind of already have an idea I kind of do you guys will be interested to see there’s definitely some teams recruiting not limited attrition that are really rising or is one and then there’s other teams that bad attrition for Koreans really dropped off that their rosters couple of years ago were top 10 rosters now they’re not even top 20 for the state for state one that I really think of another one would be well teams like Penn State’s gonna take a little step back us he’s been sliding a little bit back. I’m in teams off would be like a North Carolina, Texas a&m. I think Wisconsin actually has been doing just good things. So I’m interested in digging deeper and to see how all the numbers add out. Anyways guys, go leave us a review on iTunes. This is the Tyler Turner show on the sports cast. You have a wonderful night looking forward to playoffs. Alabama over Notre Dame. I got Ohio State over Clemson. I guys have a good one.
