Big Ben signs with Steelers
Roethlisberger is officially back with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2021 NFL season, the team announced Thursday.
The Steelers did not disclose the terms, but a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Roethlisberger willingly reduced his pay to $14 million from $19 million in this final year of his contract and spread the cash payment through 2022. The move lowers the team’s salary-cap hit by more than $15 million.
JJ Watt
JJ Watt will sign with the Arizona Cardinals, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
The Cardinals are giving Watt a two-year deal worth $31 million with $23M guaranteed, per Rapoport.

And we got Byron Jones, the co host of this show and I am Santiago Leon, and I'll be your substitute for tonight. Byron welcome back on the Jersey Boys sports doc.
Byron Jones 1:38
It's great to be back. As warm it up here in Philadelphia, we're up to toasty 5550 degrees today. So what out there a pair of shorts and a short shirt. I was I was loving it.
Santiago Leon 1:50
I'm telling you, like, probably the average temperature for you guys is what 20s and 30s in like the wintertime.
Byron Jones 1:59
20s 30s 10 so you know, just varies, you know, I got buddies that are in Texas, and you know that big, you know, whatever mess happen out there. And you know, the first time it snowed out there and decades, and they didn't have shovels and so and trucks and you know, that's commonplace up here. So you know, you know he's doing better now. I'm glad but I'll stay right here Philadelphia where I belong. It's a nice 50 balmy degrees.
Santiago Leon 2:30
Yes, when you you know, I lived in Virginia for about four years and yeah, like you know, winters were tough. You hit the 30s and 20s pretty deep. But when you reach the 50s you can wear shorts, you can wear a shirt, you feel great. It's like air conditioned weather. outside.
Byron Jones 2:49
Yes it is. Not like Florida weather which is all year round. Yo, it might get a little toasty in the summertime, but it is what it is. Yeah, it's
Santiago Leon 2:59
been. It was actually 90 degrees on Saturday. And then it was 57 this morning but it warmed up in the 70s during the day.
Unknown Speaker 3:08
Did you say 90?
Santiago Leon 3:09
It was 90 on Saturday. I was sweating. We will see 90 route here until May or June. It's crazy because I bought a new sweater and I hope to wear it you know when it's cool. I didn't wear it this morning. It should have but I hope there's like one good solid cold day but it is March in Florida so maybe not.
Unknown Speaker 3:31
Oh yeah.
Santiago Leon 3:32
And Spring Breakers are coming this month. They began last month so Spring Break doesn't die in Florida. It definitely. Well last year it did actually because of the pandemic. But this year it's a little bit different. So we'll see. We shall see some activity going on. And the strip of Florida. Anyways, big news today. Big Ben Roethlisberger resigned with the Steelers. He took a pay cut. We'll be paying he'll be getting paid 14 million 14 million rather than 19 million in his last year of his contract um when I was hearing he was taking a pay cut I was shocked but I guess he did it for the Steelers What do you think by
Byron Jones 4:23
the trigger there probably would have been way over the cap you know with him because I got the figures for that too. And you know it's good that you know he took finally took one for the team and you know to build up you know, some of the things that they were missing because them throwing the ball as much as they did up to 70 times in a game that's not Pittsburgh football, good defense, run the ball and throw as little as possible.
Santiago Leon 4:49
That's something that I you know, was going back and forth like should Big Bang comeback. And I was talking to my seal of friends and all of them want him back
Byron Jones 5:00
Well what do they have? They have Dwayne Haskins who's a project. Yeah, I love the kid. You know, I liked him coming out of Ohio State, you know, I was thinking he's gonna be a giant. No things didn't work out for him in Washington. And then the other guy they have is what Mesa Rudolph. So the prospects behind big men are not looking too good right now.
Santiago Leon 5:22
Yeah. And the doc the duck Hodges he, I think he went to San Francisco or Arizona, so he was not an option. And then Mason Rudolph. I mean, he's still on the bench. Do you think he'll be the future of the Steelers Are you think they're gonna do something with them and train him or something?
Byron Jones 5:44
I want Dwayne Haskins to be the future. He's at the he's at the right place. Pittsburgh with the right coach, you know, with the right family, you know, organization around them, which they are. No, they don't have the chaos that Washington has. He's right. Next. Oh, no. Ohio State is right next door. So I think you know, let him sit in office a year sit this year. Sit next year behind Big Ben. And you know, where he doesn't have going to beat a guy? Yeah, I think it worked out you know, long term for them.
Santiago Leon 6:12
I agree. I'm Dwayne Haskins was awesome in college. What happened in Washington, Washington's a little bit messy. The like the front office is not perfect. Of course, no front office is perfect. But they're kind of crazy over there. And, and I believe they release Alex Smith. So that's how crazy it is.
Byron Jones 6:32
Why would they like him? Get rid of him? Why would they do that? The guy he was he was a Comeback Player the year last year, and now all of a sudden, you know they're gonna cut the guy. That's That's not right.
Santiago Leon 6:42
That's Washington. So but I hope Yeah, you're right. I think Haskins I hopefully they'll give him a great opportunity in Pittsburgh. I think they see something in him who was a top prospect coming out of college. And I do think he has a lot left in the tank. but only time will tell. We got Big Ben for another year. The last dance um, another signing this week. JJ Watt. He left Houston Texans and now signed with the Arizona Cardinals. $31 million is the contract two year deal. Like going on in Houston. But JJ Watt is rejoining with Hopkins. What are your thoughts about that?
Byron Jones 7:28
I was surprised he went there. I thought he would go to Pittsburgh, but his brothers and play with them or go to Green Bay where he's from. Or even better than that, go to a team that's going to win a Super Bowl or you know possibly get to the Superbowl. They're in a tough division. You got San Francisco, Seattle, the Los Angeles Rams and then those 14 all are good teams. But you know, they're they're the fourth team in that division. I don't personally think I don't think they're going to make the playoffs because the other three teams that they have, and they do have, you know, you know, they do have a good deed fantail Chairman Jones's other guy and you know, they're gonna you know, put a lot of pressure on people but I don't think that was a good choice for him. You know, it was good for him. He got you know, ton of money. But uh, you know, as far as going there to win, you know, he's at an age now where he should want to win a Super Bowl.
Santiago Leon 8:20
I agree. I heard he was about to go to the Steelers but I think the Steelers couldn't pay him
Byron Jones 8:28
they probably because they were still messing around with big Ben's money trying to figure out I will we gotta cut this guy. The left tackle you know, we need to resign him and you know, center retire so they got a lot of stuff going on Pittsburgh too. But it would have been nice to see him play with his brother now that the night now TJ watt and JJ Watt and the fullback all about their plan that would have been great. You know, I'm playing together
Santiago Leon 8:52
there was some pictures today that came out on social media that they that they did a ice plunge up in Green Bay. And both the brothers dipped inside a I think was a big lake. And they just dipped himself was just shorts on and I guess they were just doing some treatment there.
Unknown Speaker 9:10
Yes, a little chilly. Grew up there.
Santiago Leon 9:16
Many, many, like many of you guys know that. Byron used to play football in college and also pro word like ice baths big back then as well.
Byron Jones 9:33
That's all we had back then. You figured that the end of the whole time. You know, we had ice bath. We had this stuff called Icy Hot that came in like a little jar. And it was read in there and you'll get a little bit of that and that fixed everything. It's kind of like the fix will fix everything. So I played in the times where it was a it was a little different what they have now.
Santiago Leon 10:00
Yeah, it's definitely a it's workable. Um, but yeah, JJ was joining the Cardinals. I was I was joking around with a few friends of mine. I was like, will they win the Super Bowl now? It's like no no maybe be playoff contenders but that's about it
Byron Jones 10:17
cuz they still have some pieces they got to fix your defense is also center in your house he got a pouncy Twins both of them got old tech. All right we're gonna retire together they did they still got outside the big you know left tackle the Army Ranger. So um you know they got little work to do
Santiago Leon 10:35
you got some work we think about um Kyler Murray, I think he had some good stance this past season, but we think about him overall.
Byron Jones 10:43
I still think he's a little quarterback so I can get over the fact how small he is. But then he's that much faster than everybody else and he's got a great arm, figured he's doing playing baseball, and you know, football, you know, he's gonna be he's gonna be one of the face of the league. I really, he is gonna be one day, but it's just that I just can't go back to how short he is. I just always bothers me.
Santiago Leon 11:08
Yeah, I think he's under six feet. And it's interesting because I remember when I was covering him about a year ago or two years ago, that he wasn't a favorite to be in that first top 10 draft picks and he became number one. So he's gone far, but you know, he has to prove it. Obviously. He has weapons. He has Hopkins Inc. and I will see running back I'm Kay on Drake. I'm Larry Fitzgerald hasn't retired yet.
Byron Jones 11:40
until he's 45 like Brady. I think
Santiago Leon 11:42
so. I think you know people think oh, he'll retire No, I have to I really do think he might be on that TB. 12. Boris, what is rejoining with DeAndre Hopkins who used to play for the Texans. And let's stick with the Texans here. Um, I've been hearing no matter what happens, Watson is not gonna play for the Texans at all, even though if the Texas won't trade them. Um, he I've heard from a lot of rumors from Adam Schaffner that deshaun Watson could set off for a year.
Byron Jones 12:23
Yeah, but Okay, this is the part where I don't understand. If he's under contract, I'm pretty sure he's under contract with $156 million contract that he has, how can you just say, you know what, I'm not gonna play and then he'll force their hand. What can How can you possibly do that? Where are you? You know what? I don't like the way things are going on. So I'm not gonna play this year. Okay. What are you gonna do to me?
Santiago Leon 12:49
It's so strange. Like, I believe, like, every time he sits out, I believe he gets fined. I don't know. I'm saying maybe $50,000 a day or something.
Byron Jones 13:00
So gotta make you want to come in $50,000 a day. That adds up quick.
Santiago Leon 13:07
Yeah, so obviously, Texans hired coach Callie. Um, and they had a new have a new GM but no trade rumors. The Texans have been firm they they they will not trade Watson for anything. I believe they are taking phone calls I believe like there have been getting some offers probably the Jets
Unknown Speaker 13:30
probably.
Santiago Leon 13:33
Which they do want to like they are listening to get trade offers for for quarterback, Sam Donald. So like they are looking for offers out there. So
Byron Jones 13:50
but you know, the whole thing I would like to know what's going on? Well, then I'll never know but and Houston that you know, everything is sort of blew up, though the coach that they hired is a guy that's been an assistant for 1000 years. He's 65 years old or whatever. I bet he's 60 something, nothing against the guy. You know, he's probably could do a great job. But why would you know you have a 25 year old quarterback? What would you pick a guy who's gonna be 65 You don't know how long he's gonna be here. As long as these quarterbacks have planned out that they're planning until 3540 you know, is this guy gonna do is he gonna be around? He's gonna be eight years old. You know, still, you know, being the head coach. When this guy is just, it was just weird. The whole thing and instead of them waiting for like, Eric, Eric, the enemy. Biron left which and a bunch of these other guys you know, that should have got a shot. You know, they rush rush rush, let me hurry. Let's get a coach. You know, maybe just to pacify this guy. And then instead of waiting for these other guys, just they just rushed to do things.
Santiago Leon 14:52
Yeah, Eric benami was definitely the favorite. I'm not sure what happened, I think was a scheduling issue. But this never panned out. I was I was wondering Bet me to go to Houston, great offensive coordinator. Um, and him and other chiefs staff members never left for him for head coaching job so not sure the Chiefs were wanting to keep that in me really bad. But I know I think Watson wanted him too. Yeah.
Byron Jones 15:20
But, you know, because they do so well every year go on to the playoffs and as far as they got, you know, it's a it's a blessing. It's a curse at the same time.
Santiago Leon 15:30
Yeah, it's um, it's it's an interesting situation because it reminds me of coach McDaniels in the Patriots like he's been offered so many times. Last year or two years ago. He was offered by Well, he got hired by the Colts. And then the Patriots told him not to take the job, or, or try to get out of that contract because he signed a contract and everything. And now no one has been requesting him to be a head coach. You know,
Byron Jones 16:00
why wasn't New England? Why would you know, maybe they got some kind of deal where you know, he's gonna be the guy after Belichick leaves.
Santiago Leon 16:07
I believe so too.
Byron Jones 16:09
Oh, I don't I stay here and you know, get the job.
Santiago Leon 16:13
I agree. And craft a man, you stay here, we're gonna pay you big money when spellcheck leaves which I could happen in a year or two. Maybe?
Byron Jones 16:23
You don't seem like those checks easily. He's probably got like another five years in? Or if you want another Super Bowl, then he might go there.
Santiago Leon 16:31
Yeah, I agree. I think i think i think he's that guy that just you know will retire till 80 perhaps. Um, and and keep in mind a lot of his team or his roster said out last year because of COVID. So we're gonna see his uh, his defense come back. Obviously, he needs a quarterback. I don't know cams coming back. Don't understand and we'll be started.
Byron Jones 16:57
He probably he probably would like to come back. But just for some reason I office just didn't fit fit him. Slash New England slash Carolina. It was just just look a mess.
Santiago Leon 17:12
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. The Patriots will be different next year, for sure. Obviously, we should have a more of a normal season maybe fans or not, but depends on the area, I guess. But anyways, that's our NFL free free agent, trade news. Um, there was a mock draft that you put together, didn't you?
Byron Jones 17:37
I sure did. It was banging my head on the desk and
Santiago Leon 17:40
figured it out. That's awesome. Because NFL draft is in a month from now. And I'll read it out. And then you can tell me? Well, there's some obvious ones, right. But
Unknown Speaker 17:54
very obvious.
Santiago Leon 17:55
Should we start from number one? Yeah, might as well? Yeah. Number one. Jacksonville Jaguars. new coach. Good owner. Um, you said Trevor Lawrence, which is the obvious. Any comments on that?
Byron Jones 18:10
You know, they're saying he's a generational talent, you know, not as highly ranked as Andrew Luck. But you know, he's up there. So he has to be you know, the guy but I've heard like a couple things have been out there that Zach Wilson is catching up to him, the kid from BYU. So that should be interesting when they go, you know, these different pro days, they're gonna have all over the country now because of COVID. Instead of at the NFL, combine it in the apples that they usually have.
Santiago Leon 18:38
Yes. And keep in mind, guys, Trevor Lawrence just had surgery. For the first time I hear a number one draft pick going through surgery, of course, I got a small sports history. So they're probably and others have done it. Yes. And you have Zach Wilson at number two going to the New York Jets, which makes sense,
Unknown Speaker 18:57
subject to change, though.
Santiago Leon 19:00
True, and they could change they could say, well, Donald might be the man after all,
Byron Jones 19:05
because they've been wishy washy with that. As far as you know, keeping Donald or trading for Shaun Watson, which is going to be a force that they have plenty of money under the cap. They got, I think the $73 million with the cap money they have. They got 19 picks over the next two years. The Jags are gonna have four first round picks over the next two years. So they got the capital go dip Watson if they want to.
Santiago Leon 19:35
Yes, and that will be a good place. I I actually heard the rumors. I didn't want the dolphins. I liked that rumor. By the way.
Byron Jones 19:43
Well have gone to the dolphins.
Santiago Leon 19:44
Yes, but I know too is there but
Byron Jones 19:49
you figured they'd have to give up this year's number one. Well, they got to two number ones tour and then next year's one, probably as well. Yeah, that's a lot.
Santiago Leon 19:59
That's a lot. So We'll see what I mean. I I mean, I I honestly want to reverse that. I think it's good to give to a another good whole season to see how he does. I think he's a he's a lot of talent just, I mean, he's so injury prone. Um, as we were speaking the dolphins, you have the vontae Smith. I love that pig. He said he likes. Well, he thinks Mack Jones is better than two. But the vontae Smith, that's a good pick. I like that.
Byron Jones 20:28
Well, they're gonna find whatever here Alabama's pro day, which I'm sure Justin knows, is a march 23 that is going to be on the NFL Network. So you get to see all these guys, you know, perform at their pro day. And you'll see exactly how big he is. Hopefully, he'll way the way in which he looked kind of small. They listed at 175. But he might be a tad bit under that. So all the truth will come out and I want to know how big they are, how fast they are. But you know, we'll see in March, but he should be the third guy off the
Santiago Leon 21:02
list. You think height for a wide receiver is a big issue.
Byron Jones 21:09
Depends on how fast he is. Right? If he's quick. He's fast. Jc Jayla waddle another guy he's not that big either. He's very quick you know in and out of his cuts. But you know then you have on the other side you have Fitzgerald because you're a big receiver you know you six to six three or Randy moss or six four and you know just depends on what you want if you want a big receiver to go up and get it or you want a small quick guide is gonna like hill with Kansas City. He's not a big guy too.
Santiago Leon 21:42
And also yeah tyreke Hill perfect example. One best receivers in the country right now. And he's proven that height doesn't matter. Um, bangles use a pen nice well from Oregon. I've heard a lot about this guy. I even
Byron Jones 22:00
this is my shocker when the Falcons welkins Atlanta Falcons Yes.
Santiago Leon 22:03
Oh, oh my bad I skipped number five well four four. Yeah, so number four you had the Falcons yet cow pits tight end wide receiver great player.
Byron Jones 22:17
Yeah that's my shocker pig because I know most of people are picking them to get a quarterback because I got you know Ryan is 36 years old is toward the end of you know, toward the end of his career but he put up big numbers last year and then the coach should they hire Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith from Tennessee is a big two tight end kind of running offense guy. So you know he could either be the tight end or receiver but yeah, this guy's a what would be a weapon for they're
Santiago Leon 22:47
also from Philly play from Florida. Great, talented player. And finally number five Cincinnati Bengals game. Nice. Well from Oregon offensive tackle. Byron Why'd you say that?
Byron Jones 23:01
Because he's young. Yeah, he's 19. Two years ago when he because he opted out this year. And when I saw him play the he was dominant. He was he was that good. I don't know Oregon. Probably one of the best. I've seen, you know, probably 11 years as far as being the opposite. He's big. He's nasty. And he can move all three things you want. And he's young. So I mean, she's gonna be playing for a long yellow. Barring injury. He'll be playing for a long time. Well, I'm definitely gonna pick up
Santiago Leon 23:31
Yeah, and I've and I've seen some my dress him go a little bit higher. So he definitely will be in the top seven somewhere. Eagles you said Jamar chase from LSU.
Byron Jones 23:44
Because on Route here, we're getting right here. Merle Reese which is the big play by play guy right here. He's saying there's absolutely no way that the giant apologize that the Eagles are going to pick up a quarterback. Yeah, they're going to give Jalen hertz you know the weapons around them, you know, coach him up because his completion percentage was a little low. But he'll get a guy a chance give him some receivers. I think that released two receivers up here. The Eagles zacher just kind of y'all pick out a key for them or let them go. Whatever. They already have Dallas Goddard. Good Tyler. Very good Tyler. So you have to give off Jalen hertz and weapons and see what he's gonna do.
Santiago Leon 24:26
And will Jalen hertz be the man in Philadelphia?
Byron Jones 24:29
I think they're gonna hire they're gonna get veteran backup possibly could start, but they're gonna give him your first shot.
Santiago Leon 24:41
I hope hertz succeeds in and Philadelphia and I hope to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's go to Detroit Lions. Heaven pick. You have Micah Parsons, from Penn State linebacker. That's
Byron Jones 24:58
another guy that he opted out this year. He can believe you can Blitz you can cover he can play inside linebacker you can play outside linebacker so he's like a jack of all trades. So you know he'd be a good pick for our team that hopefully they're a little better when they've been the last few years.
Santiago Leon 25:18
Eighth pick Carolina Panthers, you have pre Lance quarterback.
Byron Jones 25:24
Another guy, you know, the only film they have on him is one game that they played this year. That's all they got. So basically, he's gonna be a potential guy, but he's big he can run he's got a good arm. So you know we'll see how that one works out the future.
Santiago Leon 25:43
Yeah, and I know that the Panthers in the quarterback after the post a post Cam Newton I guess Teddy Bridgewater is probably not the like the long term solution there.
Unknown Speaker 25:54
No, no.
Santiago Leon 25:57
Number nine Denver Broncos. You have Caitlyn Farley from Virginia Tech cornerback. Good pick.
Byron Jones 26:05
Another guy that opted out this year. I think he was either quarterback or wide receivers. He played another position before he got to the Hokies and then went to corner and everything's worked out well for him. Now he's getting ready to get MCs get paid to paid an NFL quarterback.
Santiago Leon 26:25
Number 10 all you cowboys fans, including Mark Byron has Patrick certeyn from Alabama. That's an awesome thing.
Byron Jones 26:37
He's pro ready yo you figures that you know coach them up for years that we were played in Miami. It was a great, great player for a long time for them and I'm sure he got the inside tips and how to do this and he was coached by you know, the greatest coach of all time Nick Saban, you can't say that it was the truth
Santiago Leon 26:55
it's the truth I agree with that. You know it's funny it seems like everyone from Alabama has already
Byron Jones 27:03
Yeah, for some reason you know that it just works out like that you know is say the same but you know, I even have my little Alabama thing on today.
Santiago Leon 27:11
I see that wow.
Byron Jones 27:14
Converting converting giants in Alabama all together. But yeah, you know, they go down there they go get coached up and you know, the crazy thing with him is that he loses coaches every single year. Every year he used loses coaches and he just regularly Yeah, below prime is on staff now.
Santiago Leon 27:36
It's crazy, isn't it? And he came from Houston. So it's um, I guess today or not, depending on a assistant coaches as much as I as everyone else is.
Byron Jones 27:50
Even with the giants and giants have three or four guys that were on the Alabama staff, the head coach and a couple other ones that worked down there.
Santiago Leon 27:59
Number 11. Back to Back Alabama picks. Your giants picked Jaylen waddle? Why receiver that's a good pick to speed. Speed kills.
Byron Jones 28:09
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're not gonna have him back. They're returning pawns. Hopefully they don't because usually when they send somebody back, they don't know they get hurt, or kickoffs or whatever. But you know this kids have, you know, as long as he's recovered from your ankle injury, he's got a ton of speed. He's a game breaker.
Santiago Leon 28:25
That's what they need you in speed. Absolutely. Okay, we got the top 11 picks we're gonna go a little bit quick on this one. Um, number 12 for Niners Gregory Russo, Miami. Yo, really good.
Byron Jones 28:40
Good. at Rush edge rusher they need that.
Santiago Leon 28:44
Number 13. The Chargers I think of Justin Herbert, they get Rashad Slater offensive tackle
Byron Jones 28:50
Northwestern at the point inside or outside guard or tackle.
Santiago Leon 28:57
Minnesota Vikings Jalen Phillips from Miami edge tackle that speed on the edge Oh, speed kills. Speed kills 15 patriots Jeremiah WUSA karimova notre dame linebacker
Byron Jones 29:13
is probably gonna be defensive Rookie of the Year for the Patriots.
Santiago Leon 29:17
I like that. 16 Arizona Cardinals Nagi Harris
Unknown Speaker 29:22
no Alabama guy.
Santiago Leon 29:25
Wow. We got to win. They got to go to playoffs with this guy. Las Vegas Raiders. Probably the best Stadium in the NFL gets alijah Vera Tucker from USC.
Byron Jones 29:41
Now they got to play either or you know, being versatile. Don't play guard and tackle very big and NFL.
Santiago Leon 29:47
Dolphins my dolphins gets quality pay from Michigan edge tackle.
Byron Jones 29:53
Hopefully he works out he's gonna be a project.
Santiago Leon 29:57
Washington football team gets Alabama Mack Jones. You see, you're saying Mack Jones is going, going. is going into that dude like the first round for sure.
Byron Jones 30:09
Yes. It might go higher, depending on how things work. I think just to throw it out there he might go as high as eight to the Panthers or whoever's in that spot. He's might be a top 10 pick.
Santiago Leon 30:21
He could. That's another quarterback Justin fields. A great stand up from Ohio State goes to Chicago Bears. Wow. The risky bear Get ready. Yeah. I'm saying you can take they didn't pick
Byron Jones 30:37
up his fifth year option. So he's done there.
Santiago Leon 30:40
Good point. Colts get Tevin Jenkins from oklahoma state
Byron Jones 30:45
of the gotta play guard or tackle.
Santiago Leon 30:46
Tennessee Titans Jalen Mayfield from Michigan offensive tackle.
Byron Jones 30:52
Same thing another offense inside big no big tackle but most likely he'll play tackle with them.
Santiago Leon 30:59
see a lot of tackles here the importance I love it. The Jets get Joe tyronn for Washington as tackle
Byron Jones 31:07
rusher gotta get after the passer that division.
Santiago Leon 31:11
Steelers get Sandwell calls me from Texas?
Byron Jones 31:16
Every place they live in the waiver cuz he's a free agent to
Santiago Leon 31:20
jaguars now that pick second pick in the first round get Christian dorsa Virginia Tech offensive tackle.
Byron Jones 31:28
Yeah. Usually what happens in NFL like if like earlier with the one off of the tackle, usually start a run of tackles. They usually start like You know what? I like this guy, they'll start picking up like crazy. That's usually what happens.
Santiago Leon 31:44
The Ravens get Travon mushrik TCU safety they need. Saints get Rashad Bateman from Minnesota wide receiver.
Byron Jones 31:56
He's moving up, he's gonna move up. You ran a 439 he's a big receiver he ran a 439 and a capo walk during that pro day the other day.
Santiago Leon 32:05
And keep in mind guys the NFL Mako draft I mean like the mock ups it's very fluid anything happened last minute trades things like that. The Green Bay Packers you got Stephen Collins from Tulsa linebacker you like that thing don't you?
Byron Jones 32:19
It's also guy gotta gotta like that guy.
Santiago Leon 32:22
Tulsa. Buffalo Bills. Joseph asay. from Texas linebacker. Good. Good. can see the Chiefs second best team in the NFL gets Greg Newsome from Northwestern cornerback
Byron Jones 32:41
they need to shore up there corners a little bit. They were like sposed playoffs in Super Bowl.
Santiago Leon 32:50
And finally for Super Bowl champions MVP buccaneers get Patrick Jones from Pittsburgh edge tackle
Byron Jones 32:56
because they need to either replace if they lose Shaq Barrett is one of the top 20 free agents out there. So if they lose him, and Levante David and Sue is also, you know, be a free agent. So they're gonna be you know, a little different parts come next year.
Santiago Leon 33:13
Well, that is Byron's mock up draft and NFL 2021 Will this be your final one or you're gonna make another one a little bit later on? Oh, it's gonna
Byron Jones 33:21
be a little later on because you figure between what the free agents and the other draft coming up in the NFL combine coming up
Santiago Leon 33:30
as well. It's gonna change. TBD. And we'll post this Minecraft on the sports cast website so you're able to see your pigs. And of course I think you're able to gamble on this stuff I think so if you want to see you know, Byron's pigs and help you out with Dr. King's you're more than welcome to use it. Um, and now we're shifting towards the NBA. We got Jordan Vargas, our sports cast NBA contributor. Welcome back to the sports cast.
Unknown Speaker 33:57
Thank you, man. Happy to be here.
Santiago Leon 33:59
And you've met Byron before?
Jordan Vargas 34:00
Yes, I have. I know. Mr. Jones. Oh, yeah. Good.
Byron Jones 34:04
I love the hair, man. I wish I remember what I had here like that back in the day.
Unknown Speaker 34:10
Thank you, man. Thank you.
Santiago Leon 34:12
Well, Jordan, the NBA All Star game is among us. Tell us the update on that. And then we'll head up on the broad.
Jordan Vargas 34:22
Well, the all star draft was today and actually about 11 minutes ago me at&t tweeted. Kevin Durant's team, we have kawhi Leonard Kyrie Irving Joellen. Beat Jason Tatum, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Julius Randle. I don't want to spell say his name of Vince, Vince, Vince, I don't know. James Harden, Zack van Zion rose and Donovan Mitchell. Now I'll tell you which one came with surprise. And it was Zion Williamson. Because even though Zion Williamson is you know, he's a household name at this point because of his size and his freakin athleticism. I don't think he's proved Enough to show himself he's an all star but I might have been ratings are not maybe as you know, good potential but that's just my opinion but, um, so yeah, that's the Kevin Durant's team.
Santiago Leon 35:11
I think it's grant he's not playing isn't he?
Unknown Speaker 35:14
I'm
Byron Jones 35:16
not well not quite injured.
Santiago Leon 35:19
Okay, injuries are okay gone sorry Jordan.
Jordan Vargas 35:22
But I think this team is stacked and I'm happy that Zack Levine being from the suburbs of Chicago I'm happy to see a bowl finally back in the all stars I think the last time my Chicago Bulls in the All Stars was had to be the de rose arrow Wow, that's about six years ago it's been Yeah, probably no yeah joking. No a Derrick Rose
Santiago Leon 35:47
which no retired.
Jordan Vargas 35:49
Yep. Yep. I'm happy to happy to see him put his career away his career kind of had a weird dip. Yeah, he was kind of on and off so it's kind of good to see that he you know, put the ball down officially so it makes him less look less appealing or not. It makes him look like very, you know, more. We ended it on his terms. Not people ended it on their terms, which is good, which is like a superstar like him, in my opinion is gonna go down as you know, one of the greatest bulls now I'm not gonna say of all time, but he's gonna be on that list just because of what he's done for Chicago.
Unknown Speaker 36:22
Ring of Fire. Byron.
Unknown Speaker 36:24
So, yeah,
Santiago Leon 36:25
well, Joe kainoa being the bulls Ring of Fire. Yeah, maybe. Um, so Jordan Rita's. Team LeBron. What team does that consist of?
Jordan Vargas 36:41
Team LeBron Give me a second I had to ramp pulled up because I was glued on.
Santiago Leon 36:46
When I think about team, Tim Kevin Durant um, obviously what sticks out is I will depot which is we, we I believe he's on the team.
Jordan Vargas 36:57
I got I got into rain. I got LeBron if you wouldn't.
Santiago Leon 36:59
Okay, go to LeBron. Also, we got to talk about the 70 sixers center because I've been hearing great things about him anyways, please continue.
Jordan Vargas 37:08
We got yagnas Steph Curry, Luca Don tich Nicola yo kitch Damian Lillard, Ben Simmons, Chris Paul, Jalen Brown, Paul, George demonte. Sonos and Ruby Coburn.
Santiago Leon 37:23
So bonus, you
Unknown Speaker 37:24
made some bonus. Yeah.
Santiago Leon 37:27
Wow. That's in Jordan.
Jordan Vargas 37:31
I like Yanis curry. Like Georgia, like Don teach a lot. I love dodge. But I my opinion, I think Katie's team is probably more stacked. I think he got some of the some of the higher picks in there.
Byron Jones 37:47
Because Ben Simmons, Mr. layup layer? layer? Yeah.
Santiago Leon 37:53
Oh, yeah. Mr. Layout doesn't know how to shoot. Yeah, he can't shoot. So from Tim Durant, who I like the most from that team is john B. I've been hearing a lot of good things about them. I've been hearing that. That's the Sixers main star. That is Joel and beats team. Yep. And it's interesting because I was hearing ESPN Radio this morning. And they were saying Joellen beat has the frame of Shaq sort of, huh? But we think about that Byron?
Byron Jones 38:29
Shaq was a man I stood next to Shaq Shaq big dude, Shaq is huge. For some reason. They, to me they seem like they have the same body type you know just because you have jolin b wants to take you know 2530 foot jump shots and three point shots. And I was used to back in the day you know where you know back and down back down and you know post them up and you know just power through everybody and I'm beat is not that kind of Center at all.
Santiago Leon 38:58
We think about that, Jordan.
Jordan Vargas 39:00
I agree.
Santiago Leon 39:01
Yeah. something to definitely look at and then of course team LeBron, of course LeBron James is playing in France is not. And then you got Janice curry Don kitchen. Good joke. Ah, so you're saying Tila Brian. has a better squad?
Jordan Vargas 39:18
No, I'm saying team Duran does. Ron is LeBron a sec, but I'm just gonna go Durant. I like Tatum Bradley Beals been putting up insane numbers this season. Then we got Kyrie Irving and again, Joelle and bead got kawhi Leonard in the reserves. And if he ever James Harden and Devin Booker reserves, I think that's pretty much that's pretty much a wrap. Sam was going down the lineup and from what I've seen this season, team Durant
Santiago Leon 39:47
and the game is this Sunday, March says it's all that one day Sunday. I believe they have in the game and also the like the three point contest and all that Yeah. quite interesting. never seen anything like it. But there has to be an NBA All Star view. Right Bayern or else it would not be a great NBA season.
Byron Jones 40:09
Do you think anybody? What's gonna be the points for how high the points go? This year? Are they gonna hit? 200? Are they gonna be able to shoot that much as somebody score? 200?
Jordan Vargas 40:19
Um, yeah, they're gonna go into 200 I think just for fan, I think just like the fan and just entertainment wise. I think they're just gonna go for 200
Byron Jones 40:30
I wouldn't be pretty cool. I'll see y'all sports 205 the 185 or something like that. That would be that definitely be different. I would watch it.
Jordan Vargas 40:39
Yeah. Well, what was a little interesting was that there was a little bit of pushback for this all star game. You had LeBron James after Denver Nuggets game, LeBron James had a comment. And he said that he had zero energy and excitement for the all star game. He said that, yes, he has zero energy and excitement.
Santiago Leon 41:01
Why do you say that? What's the background behind it?
Jordan Vargas 41:04
I don't know. There wasn't really much context to it. He just kind of seemed like he really wasn't into it. He really wasn't excited about it. He thought that it was pointless. And soda, deer and Fox, the guard for the Sacramento Kings went on December. I'm going to be brutally honest, I think this is stupid. So you've had some player pushback for this all star game. And LeBron went on to say that, especially during these times, in the last day, everybody needs to be warned about is flying to Atlanta to play an exhibition game. But it seemed later on that developed, you know, LeBron kind of probably changed his mind later on, the more things went on, you know, the more information came out about the all star game, but there was LeBron, there were some touchy feelings there. And if it's with LeBron, it's going to be with multiple players. So I think LeBron was just part of, you know, the players union that they have, I think he just kind of spoke his mind a little bit more
Santiago Leon 41:55
thoughts, Byron?
Byron Jones 41:58
That probably, maybe he's a little upset, because, you know, the fans are gonna be you know, they're, they used to go through all you know, but the whole, you know, pandemic thing, you know, just not showcased the way. It has been an
Jordan Vargas 42:15
all star game in. And past isn't. I think every All Star game has been extremely entertaining people who don't like basketball, pay attention that because it's the best players in the world under one roof. So and I think the, you know, fan of trackman and everything's changed. So I'm sure it's been a change of heart for a lot of players.
Santiago Leon 42:32
And what I also like about the all star game, which which I'm not sure if they will have it this year, is they have a good musical performance, usually at halftime. So there's some some entertainment, they're gonna have, like, you know, when you go into like the NBA, like the championship, they can't have too much entertainment. No halftime show. But all star game is good time to relax. He one of your best players, their players play on one court. Um, it kind of reminds me of like, you know, to dream teams coming together, going at each other. But there's been memorable moments, you know, and, and also one of these players could win the MVP. And hey, it's great to have another trophy in your trophy case, right, Jordan? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 43:19
I'm wrong with that.
Santiago Leon 43:21
Nothing wrong with that. I'll take it like if I can't win an NBA Finals.
Unknown Speaker 43:26
MVP
Santiago Leon 43:27
and some memorable moments. Yeah, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan. They played at their fullest right? Byron?
Byron Jones 43:33
Yeah. Magic Johnson.
Santiago Leon 43:36
Magic Johnson. You know, um, but I you know, obviously Yeah, this year is a little bit different because the COVID and safety and things like that. But I do I was reading the silver one in this game to happen because it brings revenue and I don't know play it then they'll cost the NBA a bit. Right, Jordan?
Jordan Vargas 43:56
Yeah. And I'm sure they dumped in from last year's All Star game that was held in near me Chicago. I'm sure that they put a lot of money in expecting that money to come from the next following year. But the pandemic hit and unfortunately, plans have obviously altered so I'm sure Adam Silver was pushing this to happen just for you know, I think the fans and players but definitely for the revenue
Santiago Leon 44:20
Yeah. And it's funny about last year I it's funny because like there was so much into like so much and like so much energy going towards that all star game Chicago. I'm not sure cuz if it was like the Michael Jordan field, or like the last dance, I'm not sure what it was. But everyone's like, yeah, Chicago, Chicago, like why hasn't an all star game happening?
Jordan Vargas 44:41
I mean, up there in a while. So well, I was I was in Chicago is actually by the Winchester arena and went to the Auto Show. And it was packed so thick. There was a lot of energy down to Chicago with the Auto Show and just kind of the vibe of the best players in the world, you know, staying in shape. cago being in Chicago. So I mean, yeah, it was it's a big deal when the all star game happened, you know, everywhere you see all star banners and so it was really just a good energy. And I think that's what people really hyped it up for was being in Chicago and having an all star game, especially with a city like that. I think it helps
Santiago Leon 45:17
spectators will be from 1200 to 1500 invited guests, so there'll be some fans. It'll be more than the bubble. Of course.
Byron Jones 45:30
How big is the stadium?
Santiago Leon 45:32
Oh, wow. 60,000 you think Jordan?
Byron Jones 45:39
Oh, that's not many 1500 at all, it's
Santiago Leon 45:42
gonna be not long.
Jordan Vargas 45:45
And I'm sure those people there are going to be family members, family members bringing you know, close it for close friends. alliances, different people. Different you know, probably most, you know, season ticket holders who pay the most money. So it's gonna be at I don't think there's gonna be much room for people to who actually you know, would pay like the I don't think it's gonna be a lot of right now. bestiaries that the game? I think you have to be connected or you have to have some relation.
Byron Jones 46:17
You have to be somebody.
Unknown Speaker 46:19
Yeah, you have to be somebody.
Santiago Leon 46:21
21,000 Wow. 1000 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta is funny because the Hawks never had a big arena ever, like, well, at the Georgia Dome. They did play the Georgia Dome back in the 90s. That was probably the biggest arena that they ever played in the football and like the soccer stadium is much better. You guys seen it? It's incredible. Atlanta united. Landing united and Atlanta Falcons but when it comes to basketball arenas. I mean, Atlanta is not known for a great NBA team, I guess since that one guy back in the 90s. Dominic, welcome, Wilkins. Yeah, amazing guy like that. I know how to dunk and everything but like the like the Hawks hasn't hasn't had a continuous team. I think
Jordan Vargas 47:12
the last time the Hawks was, the Hawks game was sold out when Michael Jordan was going to quote unquote, plays last game in Atlanta. And that's when they sold out
Santiago Leon 47:20
the Georgia Dome.
Byron Jones 47:22
They picked the one kid that really good from he played in Oklahoma. He played for free on Trey young.
Jordan Vargas 47:28
Yeah. In the all star game. Yeah. Um,
Santiago Leon 47:32
I didn't see his name, but he played for the Hawks.
Jordan Vargas 47:35
Yeah, play for the Hawks. Hawks. Yeah, he's a small guy. He's only six one that's not very tall at all, especially the NBA but I love the way he moves. Great ball handling. I like his shooting a lot. his confidence increased over the years. So maybe, you know, three, four years. That's gonna be some scary. Scary shoot.
Santiago Leon 47:52
I don't know. Byron, but feels like he might leave Atlanta for a better team.
Byron Jones 47:56
Yeah, no, I think he'll stay at it because he figured you know, he's the big show in town. Why big fish in a little pond. I'm surprised they didn't pick him to play in Atlanta because now he'd be the hometown guy.
Santiago Leon 48:10
True. What's going on Jordan? What's happening with the voting fans vote for this stuff? I know they do. Yeah.
Jordan Vargas 48:16
Man. I think the Hawks have had it rough. I mean, they fired their coach Lloyd Pierce. A couple days ago. So I think there's just kind of Lana's trying to figure this stuff out. They're just trying to go through a rebuild. And unfortunately, players have the suffer the consequences of that off of fan appeal.
Santiago Leon 48:33
Keep in mind guys, this is I believe this is the first All Star game after Kobe's death. Right. Or did they remember him last year? Because he I think he died like early March.
Jordan Vargas 48:44
Yeah, he died. Oh, he died January 26. The All Star game was on February. I know the all star game that they had was in Chicago.
Santiago Leon 48:53
Okay, so they did price paid homage to him. Yeah, cuz it's, um, it's so fresh for me, because I'm a huge Kobe fan. So and they're thinking about changing the logo to him, but that's just all speculation. I don't think I agree. Michael's the safest troll.
Jordan Vargas 49:12
What what pose would it be? Would it be the jump man? Or what would it be? I like
Santiago Leon 49:18
it. A lot of money. Maybe?
Jordan Vargas 49:20
I like the Jerry West. I think you got to keep the Jerry West. Yeah, and all the players all those players have played under that logo. So why change it? True.
Santiago Leon 49:30
I'm also Byron I was hearing that for the NFL logo. They want to add a player like like a tom brady or like barry sanders in the logo. I thought it was like this is leave it out is just let it go. Exactly. Jordan. Um, besides the NBA All Star game, anything else? Besides that?
Jordan Vargas 49:56
Well, unfortunately COVID has hit the NBA now. seven players have now tested positive for COVID-19. The names have not been said but is on the Toronto Raptors because of Toronto. Toronto Raptors vs Chicago Bulls game was postponed due to contract racing and people testing positive. So NBA kata, and there's been delays, there's been delays and there's been, you know, cancellations but it hasn't really slowed down a team itself. But it seemed like this time it really put a halt on the Toronto Raptors something and then enter. Now there's been and there's been some speculation to about you know, the coaches mask wearing and and how are they following protocol and stuff like that. So it's just kind of all a mess, but hopefully the Raptors will figure it out and get this under control.
Santiago Leon 50:47
out there. We'll have to well I know that the NBA well, NFL didn't well has some issues, the few teams and of course NBA is a smaller, smaller scale. Each team, of course consists of rosters around 16 to 20. Or actually 16.
Jordan Vargas 51:04
The NFL actually didn't they they handled that pretty well. They did. They surprisingly did.
Santiago Leon 51:09
Yeah. It was a few teams probably went through a couple of depths. college football has some a lot of depths. Yeah, but
Byron Jones 51:22
the swac the black schools that are playing now in the spring because I heard that Jackson Hole What's his name? Dr. Sanders the school he went to that he's a head coach up down.
Santiago Leon 51:36
Jackson State
Byron Jones 51:37
kid if Robin twice does, he's been there. Wow. But they're playing there. They're playing their season now is spring
Santiago Leon 51:45
incredible. Yeah, I know. It's it's something that there's a lot of spotlight going on and with Deion Sanders at Jackson State, so we'll definitely see how he does. performance wise. Let's look at the nba standings. I want to call the East the 76th. Our first place then the Nets bug Celtics, Knicks, heat Hornets Raptors. We're mid season kind of in the NBA right now. Jordan. Hi. How do you see the East I know the Sixers are top Do you think they could retain that number one spot till the playoffs?
Jordan Vargas 52:21
I think they can because they've been able to keep it up for this long. And you got to look at the rebuilding stage that they have been slowly growing over time. So from last season now to now there's been huge improvement. I can't see them going. taking any steps backwards, I can always see them going forward. And then that's chasing them closely. From you know from behind. So I think that they're just gonna I think the Sixers are in the same the same spot. But then that stock can also stay in the same spot and pass the bucks. I think it's gonna be wishy washy. It's gonna switch on and off.
Santiago Leon 52:52
How's James Harden holding up in Brooklyn?
Jordan Vargas 52:55
I think he's doing good. I think he's doing good. I think he adjusted fairly well. And now with the head coach like Steve Nash. I think that that's greatness right there.
Santiago Leon 53:07
I mean, is it me or I've been here and that's this team. That's James Harden's team. Now, Kevin Durant's.
Jordan Vargas 53:14
I think the people only say to James Harden seem just because of the fashion that he arrived. I think that's I think that's why they're saying that is just kind of how he came in, Kyrie and Duran have had their ups and downs. During the season, Kyrie missed, like 13 days in the NBA. And Durant's, of course, been in and out. So I think James Harden kind of stayed in the same spot and coming from Houston to Brooklyn demand in that trade, and landing where he is now. I think that's proved to him. He's kind of being a leader right now. So I would say it's hard as a team just because he's stuck with the team and, and he really hasn't had room for error. And we haven't really seen much. We think Byron is Brooklyn, James Harden's team.
Byron Jones 53:55
This is team for now until the rank gets back and then he becomes
Jordan Vargas 54:00
and they can think out there.
Byron Jones 54:02
I think that the nets and the box are gonna pass the Sixers body of the year, sexually gotten up a third because jolin B's got no, he's gonna break down eventually, because he does that every year, is probably gonna fall apart too and now be able to shoot, but they're gonna end up in third I think, okay,
Santiago Leon 54:24
let's look at the West, the Utah Jazz surprise Lee Lee's first place which they lost recently, then the Phoenix Suns. Yeah. La clippers, Lakers blazers, spurs nuggets, Mavericks. I see a shuffle here. I don't see the Lakers in first place. Jordan, we think about this West Coast stack.
Jordan Vargas 54:46
I smiled when I see signs at second. And the reason why is because Devin Booker has stuck with the sons when they're at the bottom when they're 13 1415 place in the Western Conference, and he could have obviously gone on To a better team, he could have been on a stack team and they could have went to the playoffs and he would have no problem there. But he stuck with the same organization that bet on them from the beginning when he got drafted straight from Kentucky, and now he's at second now the sons are at the second place and who's that's Devin Booker's team no doubt about it. That's Devin Booker's team.
Santiago Leon 55:18
Can they finish first place by the end of the season? Um,
Jordan Vargas 55:24
if they just slip up a few more times? Yeah. Because if they lose one or two games here and there, no, jazz is gonna stay number one, but I give it to Phoenix though. Maybe the playoffs? We'll see a little bit of a different stretch, but I give it to Devin Booker.
Santiago Leon 55:39
How about this Laker team of course, you know, going through their bumps and went through a few losses this past month. How do you see him so far? Jordan?
Jordan Vargas 55:47
Um, I see him good. Obviously Anthony Davis is out and Devin Booker was set to replace him in the in the all star game and as a preserve but I'm gonna Lakers in fourth place is not awful. Not great. But obviously I think the fans want to see him at number one just because a little bronze on the team and you know, add in the stack of the team. But I think fourth place right now is pretty it's pretty fair. And it's not the worst thing in the world. They could bounce back from that. So I'm not really too concerned about him.
Santiago Leon 56:15
Hey, Byron, your clippers is tied at third place. So looking good. Okay, I
Byron Jones 56:22
don't be there. But I love watching the jabs. That's the only time I watch it. If I can see the jazz on TV, like the ball movement, they look like the Warriors like a few years ago, when when a Pass Pass Pass. Pass jumper passed. What
Jordan Vargas 56:35
are your thoughts on Donovan Mitchell?
Unknown Speaker 56:39
Great player.
Santiago Leon 56:41
Who?
Jordan Vargas 56:42
Could you see him fill any shoes in the future?
Byron Jones 56:45
Sega
Jordan Vargas 56:46
who could you see him taking over in the future? How to fill in their shoes?
Byron Jones 56:53
Wow. I gotta think about that. That's cool.
Santiago Leon 56:57
Hey, we're reliving the late 90s Karl Malone john Stockton Utah Jazz again about oh man number one the West.
Byron Jones 57:10
But they never wanted anything where they had never won and then they tried to jump ship and what the Lakers and it didn't work out there.
Santiago Leon 57:19
I remember that. It was like Carl was like, Oh my gosh, like dirties the Lakers.
Jordan Vargas 57:25
Glory Days. Hmm.
Santiago Leon 57:27
But couldn't do with Kobe. But I was thinking the other day, I was like, who was fan? I mean, who was going for the Utah Jazz against Michael Jordan, besides the Utah Jazz fans? Nobody. Nobody. Quite interesting. The Jazz are reliving the glory days. They're championship minded. Hopefully they'll succeed or win the finals. But they got to go against a sixth team, or Brooklyn team. Maybe a Boston team? No, I actually heard Boston her Brad Stevens. They're kind of angry at him. Right. Like they don't like him anymore or something?
Jordan Vargas 58:02
Um, I don't know. Maybe. I think we have players like Tatum. I think I think it's all player development. That's honestly all it is. I you know, people say coaches play a big role. But I think it's the players too, that really put the work in and set on the court to to make it happen. So the players are angry at him, especially Brad Stevens, I now give it to him.
Santiago Leon 58:23
Anyways, anything else before we close the show?
Unknown Speaker 58:27
shorter? Um,
Jordan Vargas 58:31
well, this is kind of off topic, but apparently do it a recent study, that professional athletes that are professionals in the NBA or NFL MLB, or MLS actually have less or at less risk of heart problems later on. Because apparently, just the way that they been tested, and how everything's been going on during this pandemic, that with their training and exposure, that players who have tested positive for COVID that they keep that physical, they maintain their physical and mental health, you know, to professional level, then that sets them up, sets them up. Good. So apparently, that's how that's how it's been going on is that if you're a professional athlete during COVID, you have less risk for health problems later on, just because when things are going on,
Santiago Leon 59:21
we think about that very
Byron Jones 59:23
well. See, I can cover a lot of stuff, but I'll make it quick. It's true. As far as you know, are you talking about like a younger guy as far as or when they you know, after they their playing days are over Jordan?
Jordan Vargas 59:39
I'm talking about currently right now,
Byron Jones 59:41
what do you know? Oh, yeah, cuz you figured, you know, these guys are, you know, got all the special things that you know, we never had, you know, when I played yoga, The Iceman, crowd therapy and all this, all this stuff, you know, that wish we had back then, you know, we were happy just to have you know, some little tape and you know, some before calling or whatever stuff was called, you put on your arm stuff you'd never heard of. castor oil and stuff like that. No, no, here it is fixed. Whatever. Go ahead knock yourself out. But yeah, athletes now are way better way more advanced. Yeah. Not even close. We're getting bigger, faster, stronger.
Santiago Leon 1:00:20
Yeah. And it's interesting because I was talking to my barber today, which I had a nice haircut, and he cuts Nick BOCES hair, like once a month or whatever, when he's down in Florida, and he was telling me Yeah, like he got injured, like last September, he's fine right now, like the procedures, the procedure with like, like ACL surgery or the prove the lot.
Jordan Vargas 1:00:44
And the PT is this again, more advanced. Now you need a I think you need a master's degree, you need your doctorate become a physical therapist now. So uh, so I mean, just imagine simple physical therapy that you go to your, you know, you're in high school, and you go to the training room to get now that's professional grade training. And that's just generic free post practice. Now imagine what these players who are getting paid millions of dollars are getting day in and day out. So
Byron Jones 1:01:13
that's the very thing though back then, you know, if you injured your knee when we play that was, you were Dun, dun, dun. And now you got like you said, You got guys to get the engine data coming back in eight months, six months, five months and back then you are finished.
Santiago Leon 1:01:32
They're walking on water right now. And then plus the TV 12 stuff. Hey, you can play the 45 or 50.
Byron Jones 1:01:38
Well, according to what he said. They want to stop as we were we're very tough that were a lot tougher.
Santiago Leon 1:01:43
Exactly. We'll see. We'll see what just sell does with Tom Brady because I know he wants where she wants him to retire as soon as possible. But hey, you know, I go ahead.
Jordan Vargas 1:01:56
There's a tweet that said Tom Brady told LeBron, he said LeBron is going to retire when I can't make a free throw and LeBron tweeted at Tom Brady. I'm going to retire when I can't throw a touchdown pass. So I think that that's gonna be a while so they both retire corner that.
Santiago Leon 1:02:11
Wow, that was a good, good segment right there, Jordan. I cannot I have to end it there. I really do. Because there's just I just can't top it off with that. Um, any closing words Byron before we we head off on a Thursday night to watch some office.
Byron Jones 1:02:29
