Can Urban Meyer bring success to Jacksonville

Posted on March 27, 2021March 28, 2021 by Daryl

Urban Meyer is one of the most successful college coaches of all time. Many people have questions about can he carry his college success to the NFL. The Jaguars are taking a chance hoping Urban can translate his college success into the NFL level. Meyer, 56, gets a chance to prove it at the highest level, even if the hire is generally considered a risky move by a franchise that compiled a 12-36 record the last three seasons.

There’s also concerns about his health. Meyer had to retire twice in college from headaches and chest pains. He left Florida in 2010, took a year off because of his health issues than he went to the Ohio State University. Meyer also miss handled a domestic violence situation on his coaching staff, involving former assistant coach Zach Smith. Meyer has spent his time off as a Fox analyst.

Will Urban be Nick Saban or Pete Carroll at the NFL level? It could go either way but there’s no rush to judge him on his 1st season in the NFL. Also this is Meyer’s 1st time coaching at the next level. So I believe that the expectations should be low. The Jaguars are in a great situation having the 1st overall pick and many believe they’ll pick Clemson’s QB Trevor Lawrence.

Now that Urban is an NFL coach he can’t recruit players the same way as college. He prefers to meet with players in person and that’s ok at the college level, but in the NFL you have to go through agents. That don’t care about how you can make their clients feel at home. Good news is the Jags have 75 million in cap room, in the NFL money talks so they should be able to bring some talent to their organization. They also have 11 draft picks in 2021 draft including the 1st and 7th picks. Weather he’s Nick Saban or Pete Carroll the Jaguars are worth watching again.
