The Arena Football League is back. Or it will be in 2024.
The professional indoor football league that went dormant in 2019 has a new set of owners, and it hopes to offer a new brand of ball along with everything that made the AFL fun.
“I think that there is a need for an indoor-style league, playing in the spring, which is not the time when the NFL is playing,” said Travelle Gaines, the league’s president of player development. “And I just think that from the research that we’ve done, there’s so many people that are still so interested in the game and a lot of the teams.
“We have huge fan bases still, and (with) our social media accounts, which aren’t active, we get literally mentions, DMs every day, asking to bring back the league or buy apparel or things like that. So there’s definitely a need for it. There’s a fan base. So we’re really excited to help feed that fan base.”
After a four-year hiatus, the Arena Football League has announced it’s relaunching under a new ownership group, returning to the field in 2024. @officialafl
