A microchip inside the ball that helps to determine whether there has been a handball in the lead-up to a goal and also aids offside decisions will be used at Euro 2024.
The microchip will work in tandem with limb-tracking technology that enables the real-time creation of 3D visual representations of players’ skeletons. These devices allow video assistant referees (VARs) to create a computerised image that displays exactly where the ball has struck the body.
