The holdout saga between standout edge rusher Haason Reddick and the New York Jets has come to an end. Reddick and the Jets reached an agreement on an adjusted contract, signaling his return to the team. Reddick is set to report to the Jets on Monday morning, marking the conclusion of a standoff that extended beyond the start of the regular season.
Drew Rosenhaus, Reddick’s agent, confirmed the news, noting that the two sides will continue to negotiate a long-term extension. “We will continue to work towards a long-term extension with the Jets,” said Rosenhaus, who, along with Jason Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha, was instrumental in negotiating the adjusted deal.
As part of the agreement, the Jets have also waived over $12 million in fines that Reddick had accumulated during his holdout. In return, Reddick will honor his current contract for the remainder of the season and report for work as scheduled.
Jets owner Woody Johnson played a pivotal role in resolving the situation. According to sources, Johnson was “very involved in working this out” alongside Drew Rosenhaus. Despite inquiries from other teams during Reddick’s holdout, Johnson had no intention of trading the star defender, reaffirming his commitment to keeping Reddick in New York.
Reddick’s holdout marks a significant moment in NFL history, as he becomes the first player in a decade to hold out past Week 1 of the regular season and still secure an adjusted contract. His return strengthens a Jets defense that has high hopes for the rest of the season.
Now, with Reddick back on the field and a potential long-term extension in the works, the Jets will look to make the most of their remaining games and push for success.
