Kylian Mbappe’s first season at Real Madrid may not have ended with the silverware he expected at club level, but that didn’t stop the French superstar from taking home a marquee individual honor.
Mbappe won the European Golden Shoe on Sunday as the highest scorer across the top tiers of Europe’s various domestic leagues, finishing the campaign with 31 La Liga tallies to compile more points than Sporting CP talisman Viktor Gyokeres.
PLAYER	CLUB	GOALS (POINTS)
1. Kylian Mbappe	Real Madrid	31 (62)
2. Viktor Gyokeres	Sporting CP	39 (58.5)
3. Mohamed Salah	Liverpool	29 (58)
4. Robert Lewandowski	Barcelona	27 (54)
5. Harry Kane	Bayern Munich	26 (52)
6. Mateo Retegui	Atalanta	25 (50)
Only goals in league matches are considered for the Golden Shoe award, and a coefficient points system is used to weigh the strength of different leagues. The top five leagues based on UEFA’s rankings have a coefficient factor of two, while the leagues ranked sixth to 22nd by the governing body have a factor of 1.5. That’s why Gyokeres finished second despite scoring eight more league goals than Mbappe.
