Josh Allen Wins First Overtime Game Against Los Angeles Rams
On Monday, October 12, 2026, the Buffalo Bills faced the Los Angeles Rams in a Week 5 Monday Night Football matchup.
The contest went into overtime tied at 34–34 before Buffalo secured a dramatic 37–34 victory.

For Allen, the result was particularly meaningful because it ended his career-long overtime losing streak.
Josh Allen’s Overtime Struggles in the NFL Playoffs
Some of Allen’s most memorable overtime defeats have come during the postseason.
One of the most notable occurred during the 2021 AFC Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs, played in January 2022.
The game became known for its dramatic final minutes, when both teams exchanged touchdowns before Kansas City forced overtime.
The Chiefs won the overtime coin toss and scored a touchdown on their opening possession, defeating Buffalo 42–36.
Allen never had an opportunity to possess the football in overtime.
That playoff loss became part of the broader conversation surrounding the NFL’s postseason overtime rules, which were subsequently changed to guarantee both teams an opportunity to possess the ball, subject to certain exceptions.
Why Josh Allen’s First Overtime Win Matters
Allen has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier quarterbacks, but overtime victories had remained elusive throughout his career.
The win against Los Angeles represents an important breakthrough for several reasons.
First, it ended a seven-game overtime losing streak. Second, it demonstrated Buffalo’s ability to finish a closely contested game in extra time. Finally, it gave Allen his first career overtime victory after multiple frustrating outcomes.
Although overtime records are influenced by factors beyond a quarterback’s control, including coin tosses, defensive performances and special teams, the statistic remains an interesting part of Allen’s NFL career.
