Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is unlikely to return this season after undergoing back surgery, head coach Dan Campbell said Friday, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
“Sam did have a procedure, and he’s going to be out for a while,” Campbell said, per Pride of Detroit’s Jeremy Reisman. “I think we would be fortunate to have a chance to get him back for the rest of the season at some point. I think that (chance) is very, very slim.”
The Lions placed LaPorta on injured reserve after he suffered a back injury in the Lions’ 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders on Nov. 9.
