Nick Saban: Young players ‘most affected’ by no spring practice

Alabama’s spring football season was set to begin Friday, March 13, but was suspended before it even started because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. More than two months later, coach Nick Saban shared which players would have benefited most from the 15 practices.

“I think the players that’ll be most affected by this are going to be the young players because I think spring practice is the first real opportunity that they have to learn things at a really snail’s pace,” Saban told Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter. “You don’t have to get ready for games, you’re not putting up new game plans every week where they struggle because they don’t even understand the basic concepts, and spring practice is where they learn basic concepts.

“So, if we can do some of that in the summer, I think that will really help them in the fall. But I think the young players are the guys that are going to have the toughest, most difficult time adapting to no spring practice.”
