and there you have it. Well let’s begin with the show the ACC begins this week Ryan begins on Friday. It’s a conference that it is the bottom part of the like. I mean like the bottom part of the power five m overall. What are your thoughts? It begins tomorrow the kickoff is UAB vs. Miami UAB is a team in Birmingham, Miami. Overall, what are your What is your prediction for the ACC Of course, what will go out, you know, with detail a little bit later in the show, but how do you see the ACC this season?
Ryan Christa
Um, well, first off, you know, this is unique year where we’re, instead of having to 17 divisions are going to have 115 team division because after everything went down last couple months, they invited Notre Dame did our conference and they’re there Going back to playing 10 conference games with one non conference game to be mixed in. So that’s why they’re starting this week compared to the SEC who is displaying 10 games this year starting at the end of the month. But this general like Santiago pepper discovered a broad view of the conference last couple years has been dominated by one team that did the Clemson Tigers this year, especially the addition of Notre Dame you’re gonna see a lot more balance. And I think you know, there’s some intriguing storylines Santiago said the team is kicking off ACC tomorrow, the Miami Hurricanes bring in about Dr. King who had a lot of success down in Houston running their offense. They also not only bringing a new quarterback but bringing in a new offensive coordinator, actually, who comes from the Gus malzahn tree of coaching. So you’re going to let you know which I do works perfectly because when did Auburn or succeed when they had a running quarterback, a dual threat. So you bring in probably ultimate dual threat quarterback here in our country Dr. King who will talk about our quarterback rankings but you know, we’ll definitely improve this team. Then you also another up and coming team last year was turning up, you know, and that’s UMC led by coach Mack Brown. Matt coming back to your MC for his second step, you know, definitely changed the whole trajectory of this team and program you have to have some good teams under layer for door and with Mitch trubisky is a quarterback but that soon as he left they, you know, they went downhill downhill quick. They made the change in Mack Brown Mack Brown’s best thing he did was bringing the quarterback stole Sam Howell from Florida State at the last again, you know, and I think this this team is it’s got the makings of a very Good team you know and if it’s not this year I think they’re gonna definitely put pressure comes in the future if you’re a new member this team was one two point diversion away from beating Clemson last year and then and then my you know, my last little thing is you know, there’s just a lot more parity it’s not just gonna be comes in Rolling everybody but there’s the from the beginning to the top to the middle of the conference I said other team teams 10 teams are legitimately you know, competitive teams you know, the bottom of the conference is either even though your coaches you know, your systems or you know, their, their whole changing their way of doing things, but I just love this conference because I think they got great new coaches Mike Novello Florida State. And I yeah, I just, this is the seniors so this conference is going to be a lot of fun to live. In a very interesting because I don’t think it’s gonna be very hard. For sure.

Ryan with the implementation of nor Dame as wage as everyone knows their endgame has been independent for years and this is the first time they’ll be joining a conference. You know Notre Dame has had talent is a school that a lot of people look up towards how much of the dynamic would the ACC change with nor Dame in this conference?
Ryan Christa
Well, it’s not crazy change because if you remember this, Notre Dame last several years, playing basically an ACC like many ACC schedule playing six ACC games every year, so they’re very familiar, the conference, the conference is familiar with them. So it’s not crazy. So it was kind of a perfect marriage and basically all the conferences are going to knock conference games and Notre Dame was basically I’m the schreeten ACC looking to improve their conference It was a no brainer especially I’d love to see this as a permanent change but I don’t think so because there’s more money involved being at and attended but Notre Dame it’s just going to be fun to watch them dealing with you know the likes of Clemson and UNC this year so it’s a it’s gonna be it’s not gonna be crazy change but it’s definitely gonna be a change. They’ll have the conference, death flies.

Let’s go into our sports cast ACC preseason power rankings. Let me name out the teams actually I probably do it and not in order. But it is actually we’ll do this in order by the rankings. You want to start from top to bottom or bottom top. That sounds good you read my mind. The score was Syracuse you ranked them as 15th last. They’re a team up in upstate New York, they’re known as the orange. Ryan, why do you rank them last? Just

last year had all the hopes of a great team and the innovators a coach brings in Tom, who, you know, they won 10 game names the prior season to bring in a quarterback who was very familiar with the offense. They struggled. I struggled mightily, they had weapons last year, you know, then they lose a lot of their receivers and lost some Rashad Jackson was, you know, wreck havoc you know, so I just think you know, they didn’t bring in a lot of great town Bashir recruiting which they normally don’t. So I think a lot of this they’re building was building up for last year and last year left a lot to be desired. It’s now time to beat other quarterbacks You’re still there, you still, you know, a big strong kid with a good arm, but I just don’t see a lot of weapons. I’ve got a lot of internal issues in the program right now. I think there’s a lack of trust between the players and coaches. And there’s been a couple of days where the players refuse the practice and they just don’t feel comfortable. I just again, there’s not a lot of good information coming out of camp. So maybe my welcome shake says Yo, this team is not can be very good. So that’s why I picked Syracuse to be 15th. I cheerful, you know, I hope they do well, but that’s, that’s where I have them right now.

A team that will be playing Liberty University season number 14, you have Georgia Tech from East Atlanta. What have you heard from them?
Ryan Christa
This is a team my like I said, you know, they totally gutted their whole way of doing things last year they bring in Jeff Collins, who is a great defense of mine. He spent many years coaching the defense of Mississippi State and Florida goes in Up to tempo has great success for one year. And then goes down to Georgia Tech good had been running the triple option under Paul Johnson for many years. So basically when they brought in Jeff Collins, they wanted to get rid of the triple option and basically change the way that they’re doing things well. Unfortunately for you know, you just can’t do that you can’t change your whole way of doing things in one year. Now. It takes a couple years so I think they showed a lot of promise last year but they still lack a lot of old basketball I think he created well, so you know, they have some good, you know, parts parts are very young, so it’s gonna take another year or two, as long as the administration patient I think they have the right guy, but it’s just it just seems a little bit off watching them play last year. They didn’t flow very good on offense because they just their personnel wasn’t made to be running a standard college offering

number 13 you have bc all the way up in Boston College, you had them a 13th what’s going on in Boston?
Ryan Christa
I mean, you know that a lot of information out of the year, I think that they brought in a new coach from bought a from Ohio State Jeff Hartley who’s going to, you know, bring a different change of focus and culture. You know, Steve Adagio was a good coach for Boston College, you know, was there known as a ground and palantir you know, AJ Dillon, so now you know, you start fresh, I think they have some good pieces around them bring in, you know, a transfer quarterback from Notre Dame filter Burke. Oh, cool. We’ll talk about that later. But, you know, so that I think that trajectory is up, you know, like I is, well, you know, when you talk about sec, East Boston, Georgia Tech, they’re talking about three teams that I think even, you know, developed. So you know, I’m just you’re grasping at straws and you’re picking The Order button here. I think I think their introductory Boston College You know, I think they have some good pieces left and I think they’re going to be able to still run the ball. Then, you know, when you bring in the defensive head coach, usually that’s going to be your primary focus

and see state at 12 while you got the mental, Dave Dorn, you know,

another team that are one night, libertarian playing later on this year. Again, you know, I think Devin Larry, the quarterback showed glimpses last year. A team I just don’t think they have the total talent to compete with the National and I think they’ll be in a lot of games. Dave Dorn, I don’t think is a bad coach. They just they just haven’t been able to compete. You know, they had some decent years as Ryan Finley is a quarterback is not playing the NFL the Bengals but they’ve never been able to reach the next level and I just don’t see they don’t have a lot of difference makers on this roster. That’s why I picked them down at 11.

Duke, the former home of of Jones, Danny Jones, why he got them in 11th? They don’t have a good quarterback this year.

All right, let’s talk about quarterbacks. They bring in former Clemson backup quarterback, Chase, Bryce. Chase. If you remember two years ago, Santiago and Clemson’s terreur championship team, you know, they were down by six points of Syracuse, you know, and chart alarms comes out of the game and chase prices, you know, lead them on to fourth down conversions to beat check us. So he’s, he’s pressured. He’s been part of a program, though. He’s not going to start over travel arms. So he moves over to Duke in has the best quarterback coach. I think in the country, David, Cutcliffe gets I think one of the best coaches in the country, you know, David Clark, most famously known as you know, developing the Manning brothers, you know, and Tennessee and he was Eli’s coach at Ole Miss, he gets the most out of the CME basically. And then we talked about Daniel Jones, he’s the one who developed Daniel Jones, too. So, he does a lot. You know, I think this will help the development of chase Bryce, you bring in a quarterback, you know, maybe doesn’t have all the, you know, the skills you want to be, you know, top flight quarterback, but got enough, it’s been enough to situation, he’s gonna get Duke in a lot of games, again, a team that doesn’t have top line talent, but you know, they’re gonna be well coached, they’re gonna play hard and look for that team to compete in a lot of games. Just maybe they’re falling a little bit short, but I definitely think they’re above the bottom Echelon teams. Let’s go for number 10 UVA Charlottesville team, what’s going on over there in Charlottesville. So this is a foreigner You know, this is the runner up in the ACC last year once the acc championship game got blasted by Clemson does not focus on that. Let’s focus on the team that went to finally beat Virginia Tech for the first time in several years. They lose a lot of often Santiago. Bryce Perkins was a great quarterback kind of took the team on his back you know, they bring back a lot of pieces on defense, which will keep them in a game but you know, they bring in court a transfer quarterback Kenan Thompson, the Mississippi State to be a Sherlock the women it’s the job, but he gets beat out that Brennan Armstrong. So there’s a lot of unknown with this team, especially in offense. I think they’re extremely well coached. I think manakamana Hall, you know, he gets the most diverse teams don’t make mistakes. I again, kinda like Duke You know, they’re play hard. They’re well coached. I just taught me to play makers to you know, beat the top flight teams.

Let’s go into Wake Forest and Raleigh North Carolina ninth Wake Forest has a lot of money but not enough to go up in the rankings. Why do you have a ninth right?

They don’t want to you won’t find them in Raleigh assigned him in Winston Salem.

Was this a little bit West couple miles down the West?
Ryan Christa
Yes. Coach, class and Greg, coach, fun to watch Santiago. Actually, they’re led by transfer quarterback who was then transferred out quarterback Jamie Newman, who will always be seen play for the Georgia Bulldogs. But he ended up opting out. But he gave me new and brought you know, threw the ball over the field. There is a really fun team to watch. But he’s gone to have a quarterback named Stan Hartman, who, you know, again, maybe not as two into this Jamie Newman but gnosis system has played a lot he might you might remember him in the documentary quarterback one on Netflix. Great character kid. So yes, I think this team is gonna score a lot of points you know, they will be you know their best receiver odds out about for this year due to COVID so they’re going to be missing that weapon but they still have other pieces around them maybe they don’t like I think a lot on defense right now to keep them so kind of the opposite up at UVA or their defense will keep them engaged as well. I think enforcing documents will keep them engaged but they definitely lack talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Let’s go up to pit you have them in eighth place. Ryan, what do you have Pittsburgh at eighth all my Pittsburgh fan followings aren’t going to complain about this
Ryan Christa
hard team during Santiago you look at the good talent. Not the talent comes in or even order But yeah, Tina, they’re in every single game. Their quarterback Kenny picketts been there for quite a few years. They just select them they don’t have that player this you know that dynamic playmaker in the red zone, they don’t score a lot of touchdowns and defense is very solid, you know, patent ideas. He is a hard nosed defensive minded coach. You know, they’re gonna they’re gonna play hard they’re gonna play he’ll close to the vest, you know that they might air it out but they’re not they don’t don’t play it or anything like that. A solid fundamental team. So that’s why this you know, I kind of picked that spot for them because they’re going to win some close games and they’re going to lose some close games. And they’re probably going to surprise the team. You do not be surprised if you see them, you know, have upset at you. But at the same time, don’t be surprised. You know, when they’re riding high. They get upset. Every year there’s a heart. A hard team to judge because they The week you don’t know who’s gonna show up

FSU Tallahassee with Coach Mike Norville, you go home at seven that’s a pretty optimistic position to be in. Ryan, what’s gonna happen with FSU?
Ryan Christa
Seven because I think this team was Mike narvel doesn’t come into an empty cover Santiago, he’s got, you know, his first two best job as he came in in January is to keep you know, you know, three players that were going to be highly drafted to stay and play another year you know, when they’ve had much success in college so to get them to stay another year and without going NFL, you know, like Wilson isanti Samuel Jr. Terry Terry, the wide receiver that was that was big Santiago and yeah, quarterback games. Blackman, who’s been there for a couple years, great athlete, you know, good arm. He What is your state’s biggest weakness for many years have been their offensive line I don’t understand how high profile team struggles to you know put together you know it goes back Matt just to Well, I taggers days. But also back to Jimbo Fisher last couple years their town has been low on the offensive line, you know, I mean, you have the stars from their running back last year and cam Akers to kind of go anywhere because there was no way to go about offensive line wasn’t providing much support. So, you know, change of a system Mike Nobel’s a great offensive mind, you know, team, you know, continued the success of them, took a really good Memphis team and brought them to the next level to a BCS bowl last year, so I expect them to do the same thing as last day. What didn’t help is that you know, a year like this one is limited spring. He went they you know, they didn’t have a lot of tractors they probably needed. So you Don’t expect him to compete for a championship. But do expect him to be a lot better team and they showed last time last couple years on the Willie Taggart they seem confused disinterested don’t expect that on the mark Novell expect a team that will be a lot more fundamentally sound prepared to play each and every week. I definitely think again, that’s the team that could I’m not gonna tap three or diamond the middle of the pack you know, depending on how those close games go.

It could be either or FSU can be unpredictable, but I hope the best for them because I know they’ve had some struggling years after the western a quarterback jameis Winston quarterback there let’s go oh bit up north Virginia Tech in Blacksburg six plays. Justin, what? What do you have Virginia Tech at six. It looks pretty high.

This is a team that you know last year Started off very slow very slow looks like they’re going nowhere insert a quarterback Hayden hooker into line I’ve been missing the team and the offense really took off came within one game Joe lost UVA and last game we see them from winning their division they returned a lot of pieces on both sides of the ball so the put them actually you know six, you know, maybe disrespecting the amount of talent they bring back and the quarterback but I just think the top level the conference, you know, tradition Notre Dame makes it hard to move them up any higher but again, I think Caden hooker Justin Fuentes you know, a good coach, you know, had opportunities

No. Like you know viewers not in a way of getting booted himself but turn the season around by you know pushing the quarterback you know college that you find the right quarterback yeah you’re fortunate Joe changes the coast so that’s what everybody’s trying to do so definitely you know a team you know it’s hard to see you know, if you’re gonna have the first half of Virginia to come to play next year this year you know, you’re not gonna struggle but if you get that same Hayden hooker, you know, Russo, accurate, bro, you know, this team is going to be dangerous.

Let’s go back down south to Miami. Coach Manny Diaz is doing some recruiting upfront. Ryan you haven’t met face, which I think a couple years ago they were probably up in the top four, but it’s not bad. It’s not bad. Why do you have a fifth and are you optimistic with Miami’s chances this year?

Fair, you know, Santiago, the group’s here you know, from basically Florida State up, you’ve got ultra talented teams, you know, I

Do players want to go to FSU? Do the players want to go to Miami? I mean, are these schools as sexy as Alabama?

You know do you got to Miami’s got a great recruiting advantage right in their backyard and that’s why I think the higher Manny Diaz are so important. Yeah. Oh, he’s been a good recruiter, but now you bring him to his own backyard to place where he grew up, you know, he’s got roots

there as you know, field advantage there.

Exactly, you know, and he’s changing and he made a lot, you know, for a couple years, for many years before the state was dominating. That’s when Jimbo was rolling. And you know, the Gators took you know, a big chunk there for a little bit, you know, during the Allen colinear as recruiting really hit rock bottom. But now you see, you know, those homegrown Florida, Miami players thing you know,

as they say in their backyard, they don’t have to go to a dorm or anything.

to Florida State Miami Hello Ohio State comes down there and take the best player so you he he’s putting a fence to do is say you want to put a fence around your surrounding areas and mastermind him do it. Definitely the future of Miami is bright. You bring in a quick fix like the Eric King this year. You know who’s like we talked to about? He’s a game changer. He is an ultimate game changer. You bring in I think one of the best upcoming offensive minds and Brett lashley, who put up huge numbers last year at SMU coaching offerings. So I think you know, again, Miami, loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. I think they do lack some playmakers on the outside, wide receiver wise, you know, they lose the learnzillion guard to a chance to actually the Florida they’re running back but still match talent, you know, all over the field. You know, a lot of unknowns, you know, they recruited well, so yeah, so maybe some of these are Your players will step in and provide, you know, the game changing ability. So this is what’s interesting about tomorrow will be, you know, they’re playing against a pretty good team and you ready, but we’ll talk about, you know, and a prediction segment, but I really, you know, it’d be a good evaluation to see where this Miami team has. I think now that’s why I put them at this because I think this team, if everything goes, Well, it could win the conference. But I think for us this summer on there, it’s where you’ll end up seeing them.

Let’s go to Louisville with Kai with Coach Scott Satterfield, what are your thoughts over Louisville for the look look pretty good up there?
Ryan Christa
Yes, I am a big Louisville guy I can try. I you know, I you know, I didn’t know a whole lot. You know, I watched a couple of games here and there last year, I saw them really You know, the scores, you know, wow. You know, pressing yourself during, you know COVID you know, you know, I went and watched the video the scene when I really fell in love with their quarterback, my Cal Cunningham. I saw this team play last year at the UCs and guess Notre Dame put up a great effort. But a little bit short, but you know,

I was part of that team are you looking for is it the wide receivers? Is it like the defense which part of that team looks sexy?

I think you’ve got the right system for the right quarterback. Who is kind of I think,

the NFL coach and a lot.

I don’t get an NFL coach, but he was he turned around but he really propelled Appalachian State to an FCS team to winning a conference title, you know, for several years, and the FBI. They’re very balanced how you saw a lot of similarities when he did Appalachian State. With our offense you know you know never not being run focus not being pass have a budget that ultimate balance you know and you got to duel set a quarterback like my Cal Cunningham who puts pressure on the demons because you know if you take away you know his running ability he can throw the ball but if you if you don’t like the back you know he’s gonna run over maybe I’m thinking about maybe not Lamar Jackson San Diego but he’s pretty he’s not I would say that it would be a nice more Jackson be

yeah have a staff you know I saw seniors last year wow yeah that the pressure he put put on him you know in the bootleg plaques and fake You know, I think they’re going to be able to you know, to have a good running game already just you know, fun running back with this and but also within getting to the outside. You they’re gonna cause a lot of habits. Yeah, they’re they they lacking against overall tone. I think when Scott, shout out to your team And last year, I think the expectations of this team was going to struggle mightily, but you know, I think he shows how important coaching is and college football, you know, people bought into it. And so I think this team while they were in the middle of the tax last year, will take the next step and get to the top, you know, quarter of the conference, you know, are they really the fourth best teams tantalizing league? No, but I think between coaching and good quarterback play, you know, like, you know, I think they can go, you know, I say, in 392 this year,

look, nor Dave, this is where things get a little bit sexier. They’re up at third, some are debating that could be second, maybe first. Ryan, what do you have them at third?
Ryan Christa
Well, I mean, the talent is better than most of the teams in the conference. So you’re walking into most games being the better team. And buck is, you know, a quarterback who seems like the democrat about greed seems like you’ve been there forever. Brian Kelly, who we were talking about and I thought coaches should be coaching and well i think you know, he’s that type of coach and he’ll even when they have a bad year that they don’t ever you know, they still play hard they stay put Well, you know, they might not win every game but you know it’s just starting over welcomes team do they do a lot of players you know chase Claypool or Matt come into tag and do I think they do lose a little bit of their playmaking belly but I think a book will be able to keep them in most games talented on the fence still. Again you’re you’re not walking into the SEC there’s a differentiation is to see an SEC and I just, I think you know, you’re looking at a team who can walk in and compete you know, with Clemson from day one.

I mean, if we’re talking about all sides, it’s right now solidly. I think overall from top to bottom, you know, with researching these things yeah, I think they’re third you know, behind the SEC big 10 and then ACC, you know, big 12 Pac 12

All right, let’s pick up the pace here UNC coach by Mack Brown, North Carolina that yes, that’s where Michael Jordan played basketball. Why do you have a second why over Notre Dame
Ryan Christa
because I think they have the best. Maybe the best quarterbacks, two backs one of the two best quarterbacks in college football these next two to San Diego. But somehow I mean Mack Brown really changed his program. Last year coming in, they believe in themselves Yeah, I think he’s got some frisbee catching dogs at wide receiver this year. I made me a player two away from the on the defensive side of the ball but your life They said last year, you know, they come in, in one play away from being closed in the film, that whole focus of this team is a lot different. I think, Sam how old takes the next step, this team will compete for a conference championship this year. And maybe I went on a limb and maybe Notre Dame is the second best team. But I think I really wanted to focus on on UMC being the trajectory and the future of the conference.

And finally, we have Clemson obviously might be the most obvious for many people out there. Trevor Lawrence, and Mr. Sweeney. Why do you have a number one is it pretty obvious, or we’ll be clear.
Ryan Christa
I mean, it’d be anxious not to put them in number one San Diego. I love Clemson I love everything about that program. I love that. I love the players they how they carry themselves in the throat You know, this is a sec program always playing in the ACC that type of gravich fan base. Aren’t I mean, the guy is make every throw, he’s athletic.

So I mean obviously we just talked about Trevor Lawrence last year 36 touchdowns in our session 3600 plus yards. Obviously arms change the you know, got weapons and make it look easy. Sam Howell last year 38 touchdowns, seven interceptions 3600 yards also. Then we got Derrick King who’s the first really interesting you know, unique prospect the last 2018 last for Houston he had 36 touchdowns and six interception. 2900 yards passing will mixing and 700 yards rushing. Again the ultimate dual threat quarterback you know we’ll put a lot of pressure kind of him in the Cal Cunningham last year you know who else to a point two touchdowns or interceptions 2000 yards passing and another 405 hundred yards close to five yards rushing. So again you know you got a lot of interesting quarterbacks here you know even like I said I can pick at number seven from Pittsburgh who had 3000 cars passing by only, you know 13 touchdowns that guy said that they lacked playmakers in the redzone that score touchdowns and that’s going to be Pittsburgh downfall. Caden hooker like I said it was a difference in in the you know Virginia Tech’s trajectory season I have made because there’s so many great quarterbacks you know, I player I think MLS I think people will be kind of scratching their head it’s probably having James Blackman number six he I just don’t think that guys had a fair shake. I think he did has everything and Arsenal get on athletic expect to him to really break out under Mike Novell system. Again, at the bottom of the list, you’ll have really you know, James Graham, really again is a really tough wash for him at Georgia Tech really struggles with that. First because they just, they don’t have any wideouts right now really to be different because you’re coming from a triple option team. Again even at the bottom you know, Tammy the veto was a four star quarterback out in New Jersey who you know really struggled last year Devin Larry and another big strong kid on New Jersey to NC State. The potential you know this. We could be talking about a couple weeks on this list we can totally different depending who really shows up and who’s you know, playmakers around him separates them but

Well, the quarterback so if he was asked to do it since 2011, no, no one has put more quarterback pressures in the NFL than Von Miller so he’s a difference maker every time he steps on the field which helps out all you know not he’s a good run stopper is not going to go unless you have to get to the quarterback. They do put pressure it makes everybody feel better. Especially a secondary

Yeah. And you know, they did draft another outside end two years ago and Brett Chubb with a great rookie campaign at a slow start last year, but tore his ACL and he’s still practicing. He’s still not clear for contact yet. So this is our you won’t see him, at least for now, a couple of weeks. So again, it could be an obstacle sandag or something, you can overcome a lot of teamwork, but it does hurt though.

Yeah, hopefully, Von Miller will come back. Apparently this cupcake could take up to three to six months. The best case scenario is three months.
