I’m so to talk a little bit today about this last weekend, big 10 Pac 12. Obviously, big 10 Pac 12 action. First let’s talk about the big 10 Big 10 week three in the big 10. And I am just gonna pull this up quickly.
This last week, I did not see as many games as I would have normally like that mine was working. So most of the stuff going on specifically the big 10 I did see more the PAC 12 specifically the Oregon game because obviously it’s my team, so I watched them. But the games the big 10 mostly, I looked at exactly the I looked at stats with deficiencies, saw some highlights of view games, and just kind of read read the summary of the game. So just kind of go over it to see exactly how the games went this weekend in the big 10. I’m just going to touch on the big 10 probably kind of briefly, and then I’m probably going to pull off and look forward to this week’s game. What games I think you’re going to be good. Remember, it’s the fourth week of the big 10. They’re pretty much halfway there. They’ve eight games plus the one championship game weekend. So I’m looking forward to covering the big 10 first game was Nebraska versus Northwestern Nebraska. It’s, Oh, I didn’t see the game. But it was a game that Nebraska had to win, obviously against the big 10 West rival a game that it just seems like Nebraska just in the Scott frost era. This is his third year. And it seems like he cannot get over the hump just seems like it’s kind of like I don’t even know how to explain it an offensive coach, but they only scored 13 points in the game. Northwestern does have a good defense. They’re number five currently, and to finish difficulty and efficiency when it comes to defense. So I think that
Unknown Speaker
I don’t know what to
Tyler Turner
think of Nebraska currently. I just don’t know what to think of the situation with Scott frost. I have had a lot of hope, obviously going into the season with Scott Frost was hoping they’re able to kind of be able to take that next step. Adrian Martinez, I don’t think has been able to quite be the quarterback that he was coming out of high school. This is a consensus for starters is a guy that I think had really was really valued. He had a good freshman year. He definitely had a good end to his freshman year. Remember they started on six a couple years ago, but they were able to finish foreign aid played Ohio State tough and I think there was a lot of hope for the Ohio State team. Sorry for the Nebraska team. So I’m just wobbling a little bit right now. Anyways, because I was upstairs doing the podcast or wife woke up. Now I’m trying to get my bearings get my source. Anyways, back to the topic it had to do to get back on focus in and rejuvenate the subject. But Nebraska just does not seem to be able to you know a couple years ago they were on six last a lot of cold close games finished for an eight but you’re like man, there’s talent there recruiting well. Then last year didn’t have a good start finished better. This year hiccup. Now in year three. Once again a game like Northwestern you have to start winning over a team that you have more Taliban and paths are very good coach and he’s built a solid program at Northwestern. And like I said they have a very good defense and a better offense this year. But Nebraska should be beating them. And they don’t and they just don’t. So I think maybe moving on Luke McCaffrey’s one option. I just don’t think Adrian Martinez I think he turned the ball over too much. And I don’t think he’s consistent enough. I two and a half years yet just emphasize and I know he’s a big time recruit, but I just don’t know if he’s that guy. So I’ve probably played McCaffrey. But let’s say let’s see, whenever I say we’ll do, um, Michigan State vs. Iowa, Michigan State beat Michigan. huge victory, obviously, last week, one comeback week to just get blown out, looked at the box score, gave up a touchdown interception gave up a punt return for a touchdown. Three picks by the quarterback, just not a hergest or you’re not gonna win. Um, you’re not gonna win that kind of game and look like I will who lost first two games, but didn’t play that bad. I was still pretty good team, both those first two losses while they last. They played pretty. They didn’t play bad. I mean, those are close losses. And obviously, they they destroyed Michigan State. So I think I was still your 13 they can, you know, they could end up waiver games. Well, we’ll see how their schedule works on the stretch. Oh, the big game was Michigan versus Indiana. I think a lot of people thought you know what, Michigan had a bad week last week they lost Michigan State they’re gonna come back this week and they’re gonna beat Indiana. He didn’t they did. They played well, didn’t they? They they got they got easily defeated. Miss Michigan doesn’t have good defense. They’re one of the lowest defenses as far as efficiency in the big 10 they have real problems in secondary the edge of running the ball the other day. They do they just struggle. And I say they have a very good running back corn and good running quarterback but just not excuse this over here. They’re wanting to I knew that talent had dipped a little under hardball. They walked in with a talent probably the lowest that had been since he had been the head coach there. But I don’t care how you how you twist it, they should be Indiana. They’re more talented when it comes to baseline perspective. Then a the average and the Asperger team they have to quarterback it play a very good defense. And they’re efficient enough on offense and they don’t make mistakes and right now are still saying Wisconsin is the second best team but they’ve only played one game. So I guess if you did a proper record, you’d probably put Indiana second for how they played so far on them versus Penn State Maryland. I did they they’re gonna be good this year. Week One, they look terrible. And I’m like, they’re not gonna get
this staggered tape for one or three. No, not a bad team. For two Maryland’s are pretty good last few weeks, and they’re definitely pretty good an offense and to Lloyd Talladega has been very good. He’s a very good he’s been very good last two weeks in rakeem Jarrett and some of those offensive playmakers are pretty talented and pretty good guys. So I think Maryland has a decent offense Mike Locksley is obviously offensive coach. I think they’re why they are better are they there? I thought this was a one in 17 or two and one and they can play offense. I still don’t love their defense. Conversely, Penn State I own three that is awful tough um that’s just not I just oh man. I mean they played Ohio State stuff game they actually outplayed Indiana end up losing it but then they lose this game to Maryland and
Unknown Speaker
I don’t know what to
Tyler Turner
say one Penn State is really struggling running the ball losing journey brown and losing no cane the two best running backs I had them have the best running back core group in the big 10 they lost those two best running backs no longer do they even have a good running back core and that is very obvious. Their defense is not playing to the level that I think it should be I still think even losing a guy like Michael Parsons dropped out 38 should be better than it is I don’t think this is a very good team right now. I yeah, even we just look at not have dribbling the wall is really struggling on defense when it comes to partially past defense. Even run defense, sir, it’s not very good. I don’t think the princess forget. Well, there are three If I could easily see them. They played abrasca this week. So if someone has to win, I think that’s a very good I could this is a foreign 14. I really liked it. For the most it the big 10 I think you have a very good team of the last eight. And Indiana Northwestern playing better than probably their talents as they should. And then you have a team like Wisconsin that they’ve missed two games come to COVID if they can heal up, I think that’s the second esteem. I hope they can because I really think that Wisconsin could be six No, no, they finished seven all they said for a playoff. But I still would have a hard time seeing them beat on Penn. I’m sorry. Yeah. I’d have a hard time seeing that beat Ohio State. But if anyone’s going to it’s gonna be Wisconsin, who I still think the second best team I think it’s going to be Wisconsin. I still think they play very good defense. They play good. the line of scrimmage, quarterback look good that week one not against fit Illinois team but I still wouldn’t lean Wisconsin for a second team. I’m just touching the last two games quickly and then just move on Minnesota versus Illinois. Minnesota has good offense. We have to know that they don’t play very good defense Illinois. Terrible. I honestly think that is the worst team in the big 10 they really aren’t going to defense. They’re really good at offense. I think lovie Smith’s on the hot seat. I don’t think that’s a good team. Minnesota I think does have good office, I really still think they have struggles on defense. They’re able to pull off an easy victory on let’s see how they do. I think what is going to be moving forwards is anytime they play a team with a pretty good offense defensively. Definitely an efficient offense. So be able to I think handle Minnesota and then Rutgers Ohio State Aussies best team. Rutgers is a much improved team. Greg chiado is definitely I mean this team is was a doormat, they are better, they’re better. They’re not my I think they’re better than Illinois. They beat Michigan State I they’re a better team. And that’s a credit to Greg shadow Dave, I think they’re going to be a better team moving forward. That is the big 10 I’m just gonna quickly look at some games, um, this upcoming week schedule

November 13 14th, COVID skincare crazy. A lot of cases definitely deci sees been impacted the PAC 12 been impacted. We will kind of keep an eye on how things are gonna look in the big 12 in a in the throughout the country anyways. But obviously interactive ACC at Clemson I think a lot. So we’ll just see how it impacts the big 10 they can’t really afford to miss a lot of games and already a team like Wisconsin has missed to produce miss one because of Wisconsin, Nebraska has missed one. So let’s see how, how this is moving forwards. Iowa versus Minnesota. Um, I want better. I saw he did a great offense. Um, so Will they be able to exploit the bad defense for Minnesota? We’ll see. I don’t think Minnesota has a very good defense but I was better on offense but I yeah, like I just said I corrected myself. I’m Minnesota. I don’t know I mean, it’s a pretty one of those matchups that kind of a must win for both teams both one and two. It will be an interesting matchup I think it’s kind of I was strength is your defense. muscle strength is a strength to strength weakness against weakness. We’ll see that’s kind of pick them kind of game on Illinois versus Rutgers to the worst teams in the big 10. Like I said, I kinda like Rutgers. I kind of like their I think they’re a better team. I think they’ve played a little bit better and I think they can be Illinois, or Indiana versus Michigan State. State has really not good into games but they’d be Michigan but Michigan’s not quite as good as we thought. I don’t think it’s still a very efficient team. I don’t like their offense. I would definitely lean Indiana that came petsafe Nebraska needed he seems playing very well. They’re both on three. I still would probably take Penn State. Nebraska has shown very little to beat anyone over the last couple years. Several years, three years. I mean, 574484957 Let’s just they’re just not very good team there have continued not to be Ohio State versus Maryland. Maryland looks better. There’s oftens is pretty good. But honestly it’s another level Wisconsin versus Michigan sales has been down for two weeks will they be without Graham Mertz if they are that’s problematic because I actually think is back up if he’s out because COVID leaves back would be so that means they technically are the third string quarterback and if you actually count jack Colin being the quarterback starting quarterback and grammars for the backup there are other four string quarterback that could be problematic Michigan still talented enough to beat them in that circumstances. If they’re Mertz is able to play, I would probably lean I would probably lean Wisconsin because Michigan has just not been very good. The last two weeks, but we’ll see. And then the last game Northwestern at Purdue Purdue to kill Northwestern three No, I think both these teams are a lot better than maybe we anticipated. Northwestern can place the defense Purdue has a great offensive coach I think they’ve been a little bit very defensive in your tank. This isn’t it that’s an interesting matchup that’s a low key like game that whoever Wisconsin they only can miss one more game and they’re not even eligible to play for the West. So as this game for the West when you think of West contenders you don’t necessarily always think of definitely Purdue and I wouldn’t say necessarily I think of Northwestern even though they represented the West two years ago I would mean no advantage a little bit more less lesser this year especially since the big 10 normally pretty much allows parents that’s a good game that’s a good game an extra week off for Purdue but then when you’re only played so few games this year doesn’t really matter necessarily know if you’d need a week off maybe that was off the rhythm a little bit I would have to go deeper into the efficiency i like i said i looked at Northwestern then a top five defense nationally through the first three games Let me pull that up while I’m actually here and it upsets me Oh and by the way I did it because that’s that’s a low key really interesting game. Yeah, big 10 Okay. Efficiency
Unknown Speaker
Purdue
Unknown Speaker
Okay, like outside the top 25
Tyler Turner
in both offense overall and defense, Northwestern where the northwestern is actually inside there at number 18 in total efficiency definitely really good defensively like in northwestern right now I just think that he was able to get them the play at a higher levels but in particular get that defense playing really good in the office, the plane they’re there, they’re doable they’re not great but they’re doable. I think I’m gonna win Northwestern in that game so that’s the big 10 once again I am did not really do this week will definitely be a week that I kind of like catch back up on you can kinda get me moving in the right direction as far as I’m watching the games via a little more like not having other jobs probably who knows my job I sometimes book at random when I’m blue. So we will see no on the subject that I kind of wanted to probably touch on more and that is the PAC 12 it was the opening weekend it was finally November 7 the last College Football Conference they finally got it gone. They they got it off bang in you know so much banging that they prayed for the scheduled six games to the games got unfortunately canceled. Cow versus UW and Arizona vs. Utah, Utah sounded like basically they had a really bad COVID outbreak. I believe they were not going to be able to to schedule they will not be able to feel that scholarship players. So 53 scholarship guys, we’re not gonna be able to build that for the game. So they had to cancel on
Unknown Speaker
cow
Tyler Turner
is ridiculous. I’ve read that one guy that God forbid and because his position group was close enough to them, even though they were positive, they canceled the whole game because of one COVID outbreak and it was in Berkeley. And there’s already a lot of rumblings john Bowlby writes in the Mercury News, he says, You know what, then maybe should breathable this this fall because basically one gets it, they’re gonna trace people near them. And it’s, it could easily I mean, it’s going to be hard for them with their protocols. It will be hard for them to play any games and so we’ll Falco this year. I don’t know. I’m not gonna really talk. I don’t want to talk too much. Because if you win something so ridiculous as one guy getting a positive case and you just like cancel the whole game. I don’t know. That’s another level of patchwall lefkow softness. So very, very good. So that’s the SEC. But Utah did sound like it was definitely more serious more along the lines of Wisconsin. It sounds like the game was supposed to be Friday they moved to this Saturday against believe Utah’s plane is a UCLA hold on Pac 12 schedule. I know Cal sports to play is you. Pac 12 schedule. I think it’s UCLA which is basically a bye Anyways, I’m just kidding. Kind of partial schedule football this week. It is and warm welcome to the schedule, where yet it’s UCLA. I’m pretty sure it’s UCLA. Um, but it sounds as if they moved to Saturday instead of Friday. And it sounds as if guys are coming out of quarantine and it’s a little better situation. It’s actually Saturday night too. It sounds as if this game might be played I don’t think it’s sure but I think that they might it might be played I would not hold your breath. Khalil versus his you know, I’m actually just gonna come around and say that I think probably it somehow figures out a way not to have it because someone has a cold it’s Oh my goodness. Anyways, four games were played including 9am kickoff pacific time. ASU vs USC probably the two favorites. I would probably consider the two favorites in the PAC 12 south. Once again, I wasn’t able to see it pretty much in its entirety because I was working but I was watching it intermittently. I have seen highlights I have read this game summaries I have heard a couple other breakdowns of the game I looked at the box score I looked at the stats comparisons
Unknown Speaker
I’m
Tyler Turner
what it was in UFC one there that’s everyone in us he’s probably met with Oregon was considered the favorite in I could I had to win South I picked them and I think most of the media is USC Oregon, a lot of actually, this recent week, there was a lot of articles written about us the best chance in the PAC 12 for the playoffs. USC is the best roster USC is this us he’s amazing, whatever you kind of usually get that because he was he has always had the most talent USC usually has decent quarterbacks and explosive receivers, some, you know good weapons, some good things that just kind of disillusion the media members. But USC show lost about 27 to 14. They scored I believe I’m like a fourth and 15 and if they didn’t score there, I believe that if we didn’t have any more timeouts if we base he basically put an old clock and the other one by 13 points. They ended up throwing a touchdown to I believe Bru McCoy, former five star wide receiver. They then kick it onside kick, they recover the onside kick. And then they score touchdowns. Keaton slovis to Drake one day, and they then hold ASU and they win 28 to 27 coming back from dead to win it in typical USC fashion of one is USB kicking themselves. That’s just a tough loss. Sounds like they were in good position to win the game. And they didn’t do it. They did they weren’t able to win. Now we’re back with some highlights what I liked for both teams and what I didn’t like, what I liked is you ran the ball really well. They actually control the line of scrimmage. Then they were very effective running the ball. They had a lot of explosive plays in the run game. They were it was very effective. They were very effective. were involved. So that’s basically what to say. And they had some some of these young backs had some really nice place. And James Daniels who’s a very good runner had some nice runs. Um, what I liked about their defense, their physical. I think for a lot of the game they forced turnovers on us We had trouble consistently running they did were able to get some explosive plays at times but they weren’t consistently able to run to good things while I was US Defense down the pass game USC stuff to talk about game because they they’re always they have a good good offensive coordinator girl they have a good quarterback in Keene saw this and they have a bunch of really good receivers a lot. Ross ain’t brown Tyler Vaughn’s Drake London Bru McCoy. They have his good are receiving Corps is anyone in the country. So, um, so maybe Ohio State or Alabama pathway,
Unknown Speaker
but
Tyler Turner
they do a lot of good things. What they didn’t do well, first of all, I heard a ton of drops, but is he receiving guard like six, seven, I was a young receiving Corps. And I guess it showed that he’s had trouble catching the ball from Jane Daniels arm. Also, ASU obviously just blood. I mean, you had the victory and give before down for game wait for for a touchdown. Get a not unable to secure an onside kick, give up another touchdown. They just didn’t get done. And you know, for a program, take that next step. You have to win a game like that game that your head by 13 points with like three minutes left. What was good about USC way like, well, they found a way to win. That’s good. I mean, anytime you can find the right one, especially when you’re kind of down and out. You’re able to crawl back shows heart shows, character shows, maybe the culture is a little better than I maybe assumed. Um, what a good receiving corps obviously soldiers put up a lot of yards. They were able to run a little bit they were effective. Obviously not a bunch of passing yards by Arizona State and I saw a couple of USPS D backs on the Pro Football focus grades for best best grades for the week for Pac 12 team and I chrissteele word of former top 54 star he was on there and so it sounded like their defensive backfield played decently well. What I didn’t like is once again they turn the ball over several times, fumbles, interception, and their tendency just to make mistakes and make mistakes you can lose. Also I heard they miss la tackles and they got run on they gave him some explosive place. That’s what’s happened to them last few years. Their defensive line their front seven hasn’t been very good. Their linebacker core has not tackled well. And it sounded like those kind of woes continued. I remember what I looked at the front seven I think it gave their defensive line based on talent second best defensive unit that’s the line unit in the back 12 and I actually didn’t even include their linebacker despite them having several former top 105 sarlo players like pit pike IoT and and i mean someone’s all okay, but he’s not playing. But they have guys 100 tackles Caleb Tremblay was a four star Juco guy. They have high rated guys but they had ever played quite to that town level and it sounds like they still are from that game. It sounded like they really struggled. And I didn’t think Arizona state that they could Austin’s line coming into the year I thought it was a real question mark and I also didn’t think that their running backs he had a bunch of young running backs I thought that running game I’m in that bind was a big question mark I actually thought he saw offensive offensive in general heads questions. And it sounds like they really were able to run so it could be credit is you could be better at my own line and at the running back position I thought but it also could mean that USC is just not very good still on the front side. But you’ll see one congratulations. game number two Colorado UCLA watch for a little of it. What I heard was UCLA, the poll over four times can’t make too many mistakes and expect to win. It’s on the road obviously no fan so it doesn’t really Yes. Once again, three out of four games from the home team was one the home team still in this no fan season off chain like the big 10 Pac 12 still seen slight edge to the home team arm last week. Remember I said pretty much as even will big 10 looking at right now but the big 10 once again home team was a little bit of an advantage and the PAC 12 did your travel and in some of those issues probably you know, is enough and they pop in noise and probably and they do give a slight edge don’t do so. And you’re definitely understanding that you’re used to playing on So they’re just slight but it’s not much enough to matter for you see like too many mistakes it actually sounded like they were able to get their offense going. And when I looked at statistics during watch Thompson Thompson did some good things. UCLA still struggles on defense third and this is a Colorado team that I don’t think has a very good offense. They I came in expecting very low loss or starting quarterback
loss there scuttle the rest receivers guys will Clovis Kishan alt. last in line, so they were replacing a lot. And they did. I mean, a great deal for tournament you’re doing turnovers in your favor. You’re it’s giving you a head start. I actually picked UCLA to win the game. I thought UCLA maybe was a three and three team this year. Maybe not maybe it’s just the dough at 16 I don’t know they they just are not kind of like stop for us in Nebraska. They’re just haven’t been very good. And Scott Frost is from the Chip Kelly voting tree for some reason. It’s not working and and even that offense, just kind of like I said about the rest of the office hasn’t really been even close up to the party. You take a Scott frost and offensive head coach should be and I’d say the exact same for chip Kelsey and Scott frost said same quarterback Adrian Martinez for three years. Chip guys had Dorian Dotson Robinson. And it just doesn’t seem to begin any better. totally useless. Very good. I don’t so we will see what they are this week if they get to play. And we’ll see what’s Utah but Colorado. Good victory. I have to look at who they play this weekend. They play Stanford. Ah, I believe Davis Mills who have been talked about here a second. Stanford might be out again. I actually think Stanford didn’t look too bad.
Unknown Speaker
So I would probably
Tyler Turner
say that as of right now out of the Stanford that game, but we’ll see. We’ll leave that up to this upcoming week. But Forgive me Talk. I’m gonna talk about Oregon last even though there was a third game played I’m gonna talk about last Ah, the next game we talked about Oregon State Washington state at Oregon State. Not very talked about game. I think it was kind of under the radar game kind of with UCLA in Colorado this weekend. Washington state who I actually I picked to not win a game I thought new head coach new off a new brain and a new head coach new offense new quarterback. did quite a few guys enter the portal. It’s my offseason stuff that I so I’m headphones off. offseason stuff that I thought was not necessarily terrific for a team. I was kind of expecting not a very good year for Washington State seminar. But they didn’t look bad. I thought deloria the freshman quarterback he he’s a pretty talented guy. And he made a lot of plays out of the pocket a lot of what you would call revenue had our ball like just get outside the pocket create something and he may place they are missing Max borghi who’s there all conference running back. And despite that their office still was pretty good. Their defense did some good things. They have some good guys like a Jihad Woods is one of the most productive linebackers coming back. Oregon State was unable to consistently really be able to put it off at scatter they got yards,
Unknown Speaker
Oregon seek
Tyler Turner
out yards and Washington state but they weren’t able to really ever threaten them. And Washington State pretty much control the whole game. I don’t think organizations very good from what I saw. They lost a little too much offensively. I don’t think they’re as good offensively. Defensively, they always have holes. I don’t think they’re great. The D line I don’t think they have a very good secondary. I don’t think a hot organists very good. So every call that you coach I mean he’s a good coach away and and I and he can go in and he got underestimated that so good victory. Well, Washington State, they play Oregon this week. If they are a lot better than people thought they will give Oregon again.
Unknown Speaker
Um,
Tyler Turner
I don’t think there will but we will see now to the last game into the game that obviously I have the most vested interest in my Oregon Ducks played at home versus Stanford 3514. It was the prime time game on ABC. Did they get cut off for a little bit because Joe Biden was doing his calling on excepted speech I don’t want to get political, but that you might know my leanings by saying, suppose that I will see you see what everything gets go through. I’m pretty simple. I, what I liked what I didn’t like from Oregon. And I’m going to give my opinion on Stanford. First of all, Stanford was given a bad break Davis Mills guy who started half the games last year, former five star, a guy who many people were expecting some really good things of this year, he ended up testing positive for COVID and was on that was not gonna be active for the game. And they found out literally, I think two hours before the game, Connor wennington on all purpose back, I think he’s a preseason all Pac 12 guy, he also was out for the game. So you’re missing your star quarterback, and probably your first or second best wide receiver. That’s not a good break to have going into a game against probably the best team. And from what I saw on Saturday, if you saw it, or if you’re watching all throughout 12 years, I would still say Oregon is the best team in the PAC 12. If it wasn’t bad, though, it was. So I remember their offensive line last year had a lot of problems, but they had some injuries to a guy like Walker Liddell. And they had a bunch of young freshmen guys that they were playing and then looked at their talent coming into this year. And I put them last second I did not have them actually replaced them over Oregon. I had Oregon I’m like Oregon has replaced in five starters. I’m like, I can’t have them be have a top one of the top three offensive line yet. So I put Stanford in there. And then I started reading a little bit more about their offensive line and guy like drew Dolman at the center. rousse tackle Walter seral, the former five star the other tackle. I’m like, I think Stanford’s gonna have a pretty good ally. So that was probably one of the strengths along with the wide receiver skill position groups on the team. And I was gonna write their offensive lines pretty good. There Calvin like Stanford a bowl, they have some pretty good running backs Austin Jones, who I assumed was pretty good solid plains freshman. I thought he’s pretty good. He’s pretty good. wide receivers. You know, they weren’t having data snowstorm they’re having jack West and Tanner McGee. The backups throw them but
Unknown Speaker
you know,
Tyler Turner
I can’t think of the guy’s name. He’s. I can’t think of it on hand. But he’s white. He’s a bigger wide receiver. You can really fly in Michael Wilson’s another one. NCO, Cyrus saint brown play. But they did some good things. Offensively, they’re able to get 400 plus yards a day only scored 14 points, but they also had four missed field goals. And three of those field goals. One field goal does a decent I mean, a college guy can miss a 48 yard field goal. The other three ones are like 40 I think like 27 and 35. Three kicks that they should have made probably he missed all the Jeff toner was over four. So that’s a tough break for Stanford. As well, it’s closer I still think that when you look at it when you break down deficiency on a play to play play by play basis. For one Stanford really couldn’t stop Oregon’s on offense. I think Oregon’s office at eight possessions they scored five touchdowns. Then they had a turnover in the red zone. On another one, they also missed a field goal themselves. That was not a very long field. I think it was like 35 yards or so that Oregon’s offense almost had 500 yards total offense, they had almost 300 yards rushing, and were able to do pretty much.
Unknown Speaker
I mean,
Tyler Turner
either Stanford’s defense is not good, which I do think is a possibility. Oregon’s on offense is low, he’s pretty damn good. And reason why I would lean to say a couple reasons why I’m gonna wait to say Oregon’s offense is going to be better than people expected. We’re already number eight nationally inefficiency. Wonder Morehead has always been a good offensive coordinator. This is a guy that got the Mississippi State job because of his amazing job they did had state number two, we’re gonna have talent on offense. I clearly I know my team. Clearly I follow recruiting. I know they had a lot of guys that were pretty high rated recruits on offense flying at the quarterback position at the wide receiver position of the running back position. Number three is they were just efficient. It wasn’t even. They were just pretty good and making plays. They had wide receivers that like a Pittman one at our one hand 45 four yard catch down the sidelines. Johnny Johnson, the third It’s been a three year starter. Probably one of the best train ride receivers, came back and made a catch 38 yards and the goal was another play that he actually was called, said that he. He was actually ruled that he didn’t quite have an imbalance and it was super close. And he was actually getting interfered, they threw a flag for pass interference. He’s falling down and catches the ball with one hand they didn’t get in the catch, but it still was an amazing play. Jalen read in double coverage, grab the ball, actually the defenders knocking the ball he reaches over the guys knocking the wall down and grabs it was like probably a 25 yard out route in DJ Johnson, who was a former top 100 defensive end, good now is on the offensive side of the ball playing tight end at five catches including a touchdown and he also had one catch he caught it and ran down the field about 30 yards and he’s like 65 to 60 just a crazy athlete and cJ everdale had a really nice catch out the backfield threw the ball right over the shoulder of the linebacker. It was just the efficiency the guys making plays, wide receivers making plays. I’m just really nice setups and in the run game, especially when show started keeping the RPO he had a touchdown run. He ran I think like 15 times for 85 yards he had severally at a 20 yard run and again another 15 yard run in a 10 yard touchdown run. And then CJ verdad 100 plus yards Travis Ty had about 75 yards stairs to be Biggie here also had a touchdown. They just were very efficient. I mean the offensive line was good no sacks. I think they all graded out pro football focus at plus 80 which is 80% positive plays Ryan walk was Office of lineman of the week in the PAC 12 he also was the highest graded offensive guard in pro football focus in a hospital last week and a couple couple just highlight pancakes by Salama Salama loue who’s this right tackle right guard Stephen Jones pigs some guys use the left tackle George Moore did I mean across the board I just thought the offense was very efficient I thought they made necessary plays on a consistent basis. You I kind of knew every time they got the ball Mike there just get a lot of positive plays very few negative place. But if I had to correct one thing tower shooter show threw an interception and he also threw two other passes that could have got picked off one should have the guy dropped it and another one that actually I think I can’t remember was dropped but it was almost picked. He needs to be a little more careful football he can’t turn Waller you’re gonna lose games. And he

but that’s about it.

The first quarter maybe struggle a little bit running. But the offense for Oregon was just resumes and they efficient defensively. I really expected Oregon to be just one of the best defenses despite the three OPT outs. One they’re playing in a stadium that didn’t have a lot of juice because no fans they looked flat to be getting the game out. They came out and Stanford drove the field missed a field goal but they drove the field second possession, Stanford drove the field scored a touchdown. The first couple series is a series of the game organs defensible flat now they did get better and but they still no sacks. didn’t force any turnovers. Ah still gave up some big time plays the 70 yard run they gave up a couple 30 plus year I pass plays there’s I was not I wouldn’t say that this was a phenomenal performance by the defense.
Unknown Speaker
I want to say first game, little flat just maybe get into
Tyler Turner
the rhythm of things. I did see a few things that worry me to opt out of Nickelback, Javan Holland and safety rosebowl MVP Brady Brees I just noticed that I did not like the middle and also Troy die going away to the NFL it’s three or four year starter all Pac 12 linebacker, those three guys are probably missed the most because the inside linebacker play wasn’t great. The safety play wasn’t great. That is where I noticed that the most. And the defensive line probably for as good as they are, are they is the best unit in the PAC 12. I didn’t think they got great penetration in the run game and I didn’t think they got great pressure in the pass game. Now it’s kind of tough to pass on Stanford because they run so much. You can’t really pin your ears back because there’s especially With the backup quarterback and they were really played it safe playing not really pressing the ball not not passing I don’t know what the comparisons are from the pass was but it seemed as if they definitely were reliant upon their offensive line to run it back to the run game we’re so especially because data smells is out and I think that kind of impacted not able to really guys be able to because when you when normally when you get your best pass rushes, it’s when you’re usually Blitz, Blitz ins one and the other one is you’ve guys pin yours back to like I’m getting off the wall I’m gonna get asked the quarterback when you don’t want to do that necessarily when the other team is running because you’re getting up the field you get out of your gap you leave in run lanes, and especially when you have younger newer inside linebackers and safeties that they need all the help they could from the defensive line that helped tighten the gaps. And that was a problem because there there was some times when they did get moving on that defensive line, and linebackers and safeties route position that’s where you saw 20 yards 30 yards seven yard runs by Stanford. A there are 40 inefficiency defensively in the nation after week one I think they’ll be better and I trust that they’re going to get some of these things ironed out. Um, I think that this defense that they have is a little i think i think it gets Washington state that was say this safeties have to play better gets pass, and even linebackers gets a pass game back. I once again I love I’ve said this before, I think I would probably take this to starting quarterbacks for Oregon over at quarterback group in the PAC 12. And dealbata. Lamar was first team all Pac 12 this week by the Pff, who’s the highest grade corner and McHale right was second team and I think was the third highest grade corner in the PAC 12. And I right got beat maybe twice a really good place by the wide receiver, I wouldn’t necessarily say he was burned one was just a great catch. The other was just a great route. But he also made a lot of really good place and then lit orange. He’s four or five places where the guys weren’t open at all. I think Oregon’s corners you can as long as right and Lenore stay healthy, you can have faith that they’re going to be good at the cornerback position. Um, the question is safety. And they’re also missing Verona McKinley the starting free safety which is the field safety he’s out next game for the first half because of a targeting call in the second half I worry a little bit in this game because of the passing game about the safety position we need them to play better but I also have faith that this game that we will they will be able to get off the ball more I think even though they will run you always the run and shoot you always caught on to the idea that they they will doors the likelihood of the past and wash is sort of your have got more guys getting off the ball I think you’ll see more Blitz here I think they’ll try to get after this kid I know he’s a playmaker I know he’s a guy likes to scramble is kind of a dual threat guy. I still think getting him off platform is is always beneficial I really think it is keep keeping them and keep your outside contained keep him inside the pocket Another one is just keeping inside the pocket. Maybe just bring through restaurants maybe you do just drop seven eight guys in the covers. Maybe you do play more nickel with dropping the couple linebackers back and make him read make him have to beat you with like consistently just making the read on the in the place. Instead of being like that playmaker. I think you play with it is pressure better,
is maybe playing more guys in the coverage and just try to keep them contained inside the pocket and make him try to beat you with his reason on the field. I think you just kind of play it, play it kind of what do you do? What do you do? What do you do? Well, what’s the best idea? And you kind of just kind of go from there. offensively. I expect Oregon to do a lot of things that they did this week. It’s a different defense obviously. I think Washington State will move more they’ll be more slit slant on the defensive line. I especially because it’s the young offensive line. And they gave Oregon’s offensive line fits last couple years with bleach both. I mean, Herbert had two of his worst games against Washington State. He played terawatt pohlmann two years ago and he did not play great for a lot of game last year. Now the thing is show Seems to be from least his first game. She was seen from show I don’t necessarily say he’s a better runner than Herbert Herbert could actually really run. He’s a 4.6 sky at six, six to 40. And he obviously had three touchdowns against Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. But Herbert was not a very willing runner. And even in the NFL when you see Herbert Herbert prefers to pass, keep it sounds redundant. He’s quarterback was desperate.
Unknown Speaker
But
Tyler Turner
Herbert will stay in there as long as possible to make fast and he might get some pocket but he likes fast. From show, I get 14 runs somewhere designed somewhere who’s read on the RPS somewhere, just getting that no one is open, or they’re sorry to be pressuring you just took off. But I definitely noticed a more willingness to run from show. And he’s pretty quick. I would say super fast. But he’s quick. I mean, he can get outside pretty quickly for 510 15 yard gains. And from what I saw him in the spring game couple years ago, what I saw them when he played in garbage time, when I saw them, we played a couple times I ever got hurt, he is a pretty willing runner, I think he more so than Herbert, he will run. So for instance, they’re slim, they’re getting personal, I’m sure we’ll run sure we’ll get out and he will run and he’s a pretty good runner. And I think he can effectively run. So maybe that makes them slow that down a little bit. Because her thing with Herbert is Herbert, you even though he could run you he wasn’t a very willing runner, and many times didn’t take off. And so he kind of like slant. Usually his You didn’t have to really fear a lot of running by him because he just didn’t run that much. I’m showing the other hand, I think after week one, you could tell he’s going to probably take off, he gets pressured. And so maybe that does slow down. Too much like because if you if you don’t really want to get where you’re doing a bunch of slamming when you’re doing a bunch of games on the defensive line, I played defensive line in college. The if a guy is a running quarterback, you do run the risk of losing contain on the outside of losing gap integrity in the guy taken off, and it’s problematic. The guy’s a dual threat guy, dual threat guy, you want to kind of close in the pocket, you want to tighten the pocket, but you don’t want to be doing a bunch of movement around to get you out position because a dual threat guy will take advantage of that. And I think show is a more of an actual dual threat guy than that. However, I just think he’s, he’s more likely to run from what I’ve seen of him so far in his career. And so maybe they’ll slow the games down on the defensive line, which I think is good. I think that moving around a lot is problematic for young offensive line. So I think the fact that show is dual threat, I think it’s gonna help us live out here, it’s gonna make it a little easier. That’s just my prediction. I think you still have to run a headache. You’re bigger, more physical team. And I think you get down hill and try to try to match Washington State. I think you saw last week with Oregon date, they have a heck of a run game. I mean, if they. It’s a young offensive line. It’s a new offensive line. But these guys are still very talented, very powerful. And like I said, there were some highlight blocks. And most of those were in their own game. There was a guy just just straight up one arm and guys pancaking guys drive his guys down the field, guys in the ground. And I think this is a pretty strong, powerful offensive lineman. Steven Jones was all on the move a Ryan walk Alex. For sidings, these guys are physical guys. And I think when it comes to the run game, I still think Oregon’s is underrated. First of all, give me a run central team. And with cJ vertellen Rob and Travis tie, you have to have the best running backs the back 12 to go along with a physical line. I think you’re just you’re you know what, just sit there and you’re gonna make team stop you. And from what I saw in game one, it gets not a bad front seven like I I thought Stanford because of the OPT outs and because those are recruiting, I did not expect them to be ever good secondary, and they didn’t look great. I mean, the graded organs, wide receivers basic good place, but I actually thought there’s some good players in the front seven for Stanford, especially guys like Thomas Booker and, and stuff. I thought that the front seven, maybe the young offensive line, the front seven, they might have trouble running. They didn’t at all, they almost ran through your yards. So if you do that on Stanford, I think they’re going to be able to run on Washington State, they’ll be able to run easily and USC elite Very easily be able to run in Oregon State. Even cow a Washington’s probably the net. Probably the only team that I think it says go to Fred seven is as Stanford from a talent perspective. So I think Oregon can really you know, just Hey, Joe Morehead you need to stop the run. If they do you move the quarterback.
You do the play action. And I think there’s the receivers are good enough to consistently they’ll be able to be a lot of the defensive backs. Kalin Washington will be a challenge because those are some pretty good defensive backfield. But I I you know, I went in sixth and oh, but there’s always a little apprehension. Our Oregon is organized good as I thought, because they did lose a decent amount. They lost a lot of stars in the oil, they did lose Justin Herbert. They lost obviously for guys to opt out, including the best tackle in college football, unlike is there going to be a drop off in the media definitely thought there was there’s definitely was more apprehension in picking Oregon. But I think after week one, you would have to feel pretty good because the media is like Oregon has good defense. And the media is like put that on offense I just worry about also the offenses barriers leaf. That’s week one, that’s just week one. We’ll see how this week is. But if it but what I saw in what I like sometimes if guys are just you’re just hot and the other teams just playing terrible. You’re just like, you kind of have this, you get a little disillusion, and you’re like, Oh, they have a great offense when other teams just terrible. And you had a bunch of guys that could watch a free plays that normally they wouldn’t make and there was some receivers and made some really nice catches. But what I liked was it was just efficient, efficiently running the ball efficiently making good decisions, either scrambling or making the right reads in the past game. And that efficiency I see as something that you can rely on more moving forwards and they have a good offensive coordinator who knows how to call a good game. And you have talent enough guys at those skill positions and experience to add those skill positions that I believe that Oregon is going to have a pretty good offenses here. And I think that all offense,
Unknown Speaker
you’re gonna have score. So they’re forcing
Tyler Turner
every team to have to score and I still think even though I was not unbelievably impressive Oregon defense week, I still think that Oregon
Unknown Speaker
can
Tyler Turner
play some defense and I certainly there’s guys I cave on tibideaux and mace funa. And I even talked about Noah Sewell, who was the best defensive player for Oregon, the former five star who’s a true freshman and the brother of nasal bait a couple of terrific plays. And it says Sue and Domino, Lenore mackell, right. The two best corners, there’s still just some very good guys, you could possibly have four or five all conference level guys on that defense. Um, I trust that Oregon’s going to be able to, to consistently have a very good week, and I said there’s going to be some nonsense of linemen that are not on that preseason all Pac 12 team that I think eventually end up there. I mentioned that grind, walk massala move it. Steven Jones. They could have two three on the two duty all conference team have an offensive line. Like the Pro Football focus voted Oregon’s offensive line offensive line of the week. And Mr. Beyond that there are some very talented players
Unknown Speaker
that
Tyler Turner
would have praised the other team in the PAC 12. last couple years. They just were behind pinay schools and Calvin tawaran is a shame lumias those experienced guys but even when you saw them yesterday, just forget it. He’s recruited pretty good. So Oregon’s offensive lines going to be pretty darn good moving forwards. And so long story short, I think they are going to be pretty good. Quickly have about 10 minutes left in this podcast. I’m going to go through this week’s games who I think’s gonna win in the PAC 12. Colorado versus Stanford. I kind of said it. I like Stanford, even without data smells who probably won’t be playing this week. I just think overall I think they have a good offensive line. I think they’re gonna be able to run the ball in Colorado. I think they’re gonna be able to do enough on defense. I so we’ll take our eyes off as I know, they play good. They mean they got obviously the breaks of all the turnovers UCLA, but I still question Colorado’s off at USC versus Arizona. I just don’t think Arizona ziggo This here is a bad team. So I’m gonna pick USC in that game. Colorado. Sorry. I’m gonna pick Oregon last. Cal versus LSU. I’m very question I question a lot of this game is going to happen but if it does happen, first game of the season vs. Cow is you had a really, really tough loss. I think I was picking when I did the preseason Season I believe I was picking Cal to win this game. But no, I don’t know. I think if you had one game under the belt, I think you’re able to outplay Cal I pick a Susan’s game. Use UCLA, Utah, UCLA, I, you tell this one sounds a little better. I trust Utah, because it’s safe there and to maybe be able to make it happen. I’ve got to pick Utah. I don’t think UCLA is anytime good again. But the game might not happen. But if it does happen, I’m going to pick Utah, Oregon State versus Washington. I’m sorry, Oregon State was just really disappointing. I just don’t think they’re any good. Washington, you know, they’re gonna have a good defense. Do I think it’s I don’t know what to think of Oregon’s Washington’s offense, but it gets pretty good to see do fit. So maybe they’ll look really good. I’m gonna pick Washington to win this game. And then the last game, and not the least game, Oregon versus Washington state at Washington State. I am going to proportions and skin. Um, I really think it’s gonna be Oregon. I’m interested. I really am just curious because Washington State looks a lot better. And I thought, and that quarterback is pretty electric. He could do some really good things outside the pocket. I wonder how they’re gonna play him? Are they gonna put a lot of pressure on him? Try to force them into mistakes or are they going to just keep in the pocket and make it be that way? They can make mistakes that way. I mean, I was kind of thinking real time at first is like your pressure on them more I thought about like, no, maybe you just drop guys in the coverage and they can beat you. They can make the right read because he’s a young quarterback. And that might be more difficult Nathan, just make sure keep your integrity don’t get outside and try to win some one on one battles with the D line and maybe sending a linebacker here and there on a blitz. So and then offensively did gunner play games. I liked your hardwoods he is an excellent linebacker, I don’t think it’s a great defensive backfield. And Oregon State was able to get a lot of yards in through the air and and and i think that that secondary is not very good. So I think Oregon wants to run they want to run but if they’re playing games, they’re getting some negative place. You could see you know, that’s when the tasking you get to work in and they’re gonna respect an entire shows running because she will run he will take off and if they start you know and then they start dropping more guys in the coverage then you can go back to the run game you can utilize the fact that that you’re the advantages with numbers in the run game. So I think they can play some games that I think they have the personnel I did the personal upfront to win idea of the personnel outside to win. I think you’ve good experienced running backs and cJ videl Travis die Cyrus habibie luquillo phazzer pick a score right now. I am going to go 3521 I think Washington State we’ll be able to get some off offense going a little bit. But I think it’s gonna be one of those games. It’s kind of been that like, you know, 14 now thing the 14 741 seven, you know, it’s cut the touchdowns it’s
but Washington State is able to hang in there and continue to just do enough and I think to maybe first turn over to and I think it’s going to be a 14 point game. That’s my prediction. I had it I think I forgot what I had for but in my head last week I was thinking most the time was 2013 Oregon over Stanford, and it ended up 3514 If you had told me Davis Mills is gonna play I might have thought they were even gonna score that much due to Tony Davis Moses play I didn’t wouldn’t have thought they had as many yards offensively as they got so that was one thing that would surprise me but I also would have thought that the office was going to struggle more I didn’t wouldn’t did wasn’t predicted Oregon’s office to look so efficient. Basically, you know a possession scored on five and got two reds on the other to miss field goal the turnover so I would it not predict that. So this week, I think maybe office makes couple more. Couple of hiccups maybe a little bit slanting the movement on the last scrimmage table cost negative place, maybe even if we’re starting over. But I think the defense actually does play a little better. I think this offense I think Washington is able to get score. Maybe one early maybe one late but I think for a lot of game. They he’s he makes a couple mistakes, maybe for some turnovers and it could be one of those games. I would not shock me if Oregon forces turnovers and then ends up being 40 to 4917 I think organs definitely is significantly more talented team. So anyways, that’s it for tonight. Come back Next week I’m going to have West Coast College Football. Get the guys gentleman’s name right.
