Daniel Jones threw two touchdown passes to rookie Malik Nabers, New York’s defensive players took turns sacking Deshaun Watson, and the Giants held off the Cleveland Browns 21-15 on Sunday.
Jones completed 24 of 34 passes for 236 yards as the Giants (1-2) shook off a loss at Washington that prompted a week of criticism toward coach Brian Daboll.

Giants work out former Texans fifth-round pick
The New York Giants held a small group of players for a private workout on Monday in East Rutherford, including a former Houston Texans fifth-round pick, tight end Teagan Quitoriano.
The 24-year-old Quitoriano went No. 170 overall in the 2022 NFL draft and has appeared in 16 career games (11 starts), recording nine receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns. He was released with an injury settlement (calf) earlier this month.
In addition to Quitoriano, the Giants also worked out several other tight ends — Armani Rogers, Stephen Sullivan, and Joel Wilson.
Giants sign Joel Wilson to practice squad, place Lawrence Cager on IR
Coach Brian Daboll announced on Tuesday that tight end Lawrence Cager, who was on the practice squad, is headed to injured reserve. The Giants are reportedly signing Wilson to take Cager’s place on the practice squad.]
Teagan Quitoriano, Armani Rogers, Stephen Sullivan, and Joel Wilson all worked out for New York.
Quitoriano was a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. The 6-foot-6, 258-pound 24-year-old played in 16 games with 11 starts and nine receptions over two seasons. He was waived/injured by the Texans and released with an injury settlement Sept. 4 after a calf injury.
Giants cut Jakob Johnson, sign Joel Wilson to practice squad
The New York Giants have terminated the contract of veteran fullback Jakob Johnson. Again.
Johnson has spent months on and off the Giants’ active roster and practice squad, and will likely be added back in the near future. However, as of Wednesday morning, the team is once again down to 52 men on their roster.
In addition to releasing Johnson, the Giants also placed tight end Lawrence Cager on practice squad injured reserve (IR).

Recap
WAS 38 CIN 33
Rookie Jayden Daniels threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score in a remarkably efficient performance, and the Washington Commanders stunned Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals 38-33 on Monday night.
Daniels finished 21 of 23 for 254 yards, with the No. 2 overall draft pick setting an NFL rookie record for completion percentage at 91.3%. The Commanders (2-1) scored on every possession except for kneel-downs at the end of each half and have not punted or turned the ball over in their last two games.
Neither Washington nor Cincinnati punted or turned it over, the first time that’s happened in the Super Bowl era.
Eagles 15 Saints 12
— Saquon Barkley and the Eagles emerged from a flood of Philadelphia-style scrutiny and delivered a masterclass on grinding out — and closing out — a physical, defensive struggle in which a lot went wrong before it ended just right.
Barkley rushed for fourth-quarter touchdowns of 65 and 4 yards, and the Eagles rebounded from a maddening late-game collapse six days earlier to beat the previously surging New Orleans Saints, 15-12 on Sunday.
BAL 28 DAL 25
— Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens had an early, emphatic answer for the first 0-2 start since before he was their franchise quarterback.
The two-time MVP added a couple of clutch plays late when the Ravens were at risk of letting a big fourth-quarter lead get away.
Derrick Henry ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns, Jackson accounted for two scores and the Ravens held on for a 28-25 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
The Ravens (1-2) scored touchdowns on their first two drives and led 28-6 before Dak Prescott and the Cowboys rallied big late with some help from a rare onside kick recovery.
Baltimore was a play away from having to give the ball back to the Cowboys (1-2) leading by just three when Jackson had a clutch completion to Zay Flowers.
Jackson put the game away with a nifty fake to start a 10-yard run as the Ravens finished with 274 yards rushing. It’s the most Dallas has allowed since twice giving up at least 294 with one of the worst defenses in franchise history in 2020.
JAX 10 BUF 47
Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes and the Bills scored TDs on each of their five first-half drives in a 47-10 win over a misfiring Trevor Lawrence and the unraveling Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.
Allen went 22 of 28 for 247 yards in the first 30 minutes alone, with completions to nine receivers. He only attempted two passes after halftime, finishing 23 of 30 for 263 yards before Mitchell Trubisky relieved him.

Eugene “Mercury” Morris, an iconic running back for the Miami Dolphins, died Saturday night. He was 77.
