Winner – Team Lebron
Team Lebron dominates All Star game taking down team Durant. Giannis Antetokounmpo Was the leading scorer for team Lebron gathering 35 points on 16-16 FG and he was 3-3 from downtown. Stephen Curry was Lebron secret weapon he had 28 points and was 8-16 from behind the arc splashing three pointers all over the court. Damian Lillard had 32 off the bench and had a shoot between himself and Curry, he was also 8-16 from behind the arc.
Team Durant, on the other hand was disappointing. Between Zion missing wide open dunks to air balling 3s. I don’t know which was worse. Beal was the leading scorer for team Durant with 26 points. Kyrie showed off his ball handling display like always he had 24 points, but unfortunately he was trading layups while Team Lebron was making 3s. In the final quarter you know it was Dame time as he splashed a half court 3 to win the game 170-150.
MVP – Giannis
The Milwaukee Bucks superstar shot a perfect 16-for-16 from the field, a performance that earned Team LeBron the win and himself the game’s Kia MVP award.
The Grecian-born forward enjoyed every moment of the night, often smiling and laughing while playing alongside and against the rest of the NBA’s best.
“I’m just having fun,” Antetokoumpo said. “Sometimes when you’re having fun and not thinking about the outcome, you just let your instincts take over.”
Domantas Sabonis wins 2021 Taco Bell Skills Challenge at NBA All Star
Domantas Sabonis of Team LeBron won the 2021 Taco Bell Skills Challenge over Magic center Nikola Vucevic.
The big men continue to rule the Taco Bell Skills Challenge.
Stephen Curry wins 2021 NBA All Star 3-Point Contest
Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors won the 2021 MTN DEW® 3-Point Contest on Sunday, March 7 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, besting Mike Conley and Jayson Tatum in the final round. Curry’s final shot, a 2-point money ball, put him one ahead of Conley for the victory. He becomes just the seventh player to win the contest multiple times, and the first to do so since Jason Kapono (2007-08).
Slam Dunk
Anfernee Simons made history at halftime of the NBA All-Star game on Sunday by becoming the first Portland Trail Blazer to win the 2021 AT&T Slam Dunk.
Simons captured the trophy by defeating Knicks rookie Obi Toppin in the finals of a competition that also included Cassius Stanley, the first player on a two-way contract to compete in the AT&T Slam Dunk.
Simons rose high above the basket for his contest-winning dunk and appeared to be attempting to kiss the rim before stopping just short on the successful one-handed jam.
Blake Griffin to Brooklyn Nets
Domantas Sabonis of Team LeBron won the 2021 Taco Bell Skills Challenge over Magic center Nikola Vucevic.

Last night. The NBA All Star game 2021 was a hit. It was a tournament a game that was questionable at the beginning of the season. All right, it happened. It was like success in Atlanta and joining us all the way from Chicago, Illinois. Jordan Vargas. Welcome back to the sports cast.
Jordan Vargas 1:04
I’m happy to be here.
Santiago Leon 1:06
Jordan, what a weekend. I think, what made this weekend different from from like, the other years that the all star game, and also the other events were in one night? Yeah, to be honest, it worked out? Well. It actually does have in all three events in one night.
Jordan Vargas 1:23
It actually did. I mean, and it would actually the energy was seemed like it was there. You know, earlier, we saw a little controversy on the all star game, you know, LeBron talking about how he really wasn’t sure if he wanted to attend, but it seemed like the energy adults argument was good.
Santiago Leon 1:41
Now, there’s a lot of been a lot of changes and other industries, you know, condensing things down. Can you see? Can you see in future events, where well future All Star weekend’s will be just in one night? Or do you think they’ll go back to like, two three nights?
Jordan Vargas 2:03
Um, I think it’s pretty traditional to have them out all star weekend versus an all star night. So I think when times go back to normal, hopefully, we’ll see that transition go back. But until then, I think this is going to stick around for a couple more years disrupt protocol and just for safe measure. Yeah.
Santiago Leon 2:21
Which by the way, there’s some news today is off topic, the CDC said that if you take the vaccine, you don’t have to wear a mask.
Jordan Vargas 2:29
Man, I hopefully get a vaccine
Santiago Leon 2:34
is pretty interesting. Which you’re, you’re very young. So you might we as the you know, probably like, towards the end.
Jordan Vargas 2:43
Gonna be the last Mohicans getting that vaccine. Exactly.
Santiago Leon 2:46
And plus, I found out this weekend, which everyone didn’t? Well, most people might know. I didn’t know that you run cross country. So you’re pretty healthy kid. Yeah. When you work out your immune system in Korea, it builds
Jordan Vargas 2:59
up
Santiago Leon 3:00
it builds, which is something that I’ve been learning more about health but become more of a health expert this past year than any other year. Anyways. Back to our regular scheduled program last night team LeBron defeated teams around 170 to 150 correct. Um, it was one heck of a night team LeBron Dan. dominated Janice won the MVP. Steph Curry, at least for the first half was the man
Jordan Vargas 3:26
he won Korea 28 points Yana said 35 points. So those who together Dame had 32 points too many more points in Korea, even Limerick Thank you
Santiago Leon 3:38
bench was pretty good.
Jordan Vargas 3:40
Yeah, he was.
Santiago Leon 3:41
Now Jordan, what was your overall thoughts of this game actual and then we’ll talk about like the other events after this recap. But what were your thoughts over this? This all star game?
Jordan Vargas 3:53
I think the all star game was good. It’s just it seemed very traditional. Compared to other past years. And I’d seem normal you really couldn’t tell anything was off. The stadiums were kind of empty but they had it set up where they had virtual connects you know, you can connect and in the game. Yeah, kind of like bubble style. And there’s people in the crowd and it just seemed like it was it was a good environment. The players just smile and they had a good time. And of course, they didn’t hit the two hundreds but they ran the score pretty high.
Santiago Leon 4:23
Something that I was not sure yes, there was a crowd there was small I believe that 2500 but I think at times they put some fake noise into it.
Jordan Vargas 4:32
Maybe not. Maybe they I’m sure they did. I mean they do that at a you know NBA games now. And those Chicago Bulls do know Atlanta Hawks. They have a little sound guy so yeah, sure. They added it on just keep the you know, when you’re watching for the television, you know, you remember past years at the all star game. So
Santiago Leon 4:50
yeah, something that is been running quite common in other sports leagues as well. Team Durant, on the other hand was very disappointing. Pointing between Zion Williams missing wide open dunks to airball in threes. This team did not have much bill was the leading scorer 2026
Jordan Vargas 5:10
harden at 21 Jason Tatum at 21, Zion had 10 and kawhi had eight.
Santiago Leon 5:17
What happened here? Was it something that just not motivated or, or or Tim Brown was stack? Well or like wait to stack?
Jordan Vargas 5:25
You know I said earlier a couple episodes ago that team to rant was gonna win it because in my opinion, I saw Tim Duran be more stacked. But the more I looked at it, and the more I just was watching, you know, the highlights go over and over again, I saw I made a very big mistake. And I don’t know Tim Brown just seemed like they dominated they had more leaders on their team. And I was a little disappointed by Tim Duran To be honest, even though it’s an all star game and you know, I was supposed to be goofing around. I’m like, Zion Williamson does not need to be missing wide open dunks when he was in 10th grade 1 million from the free throw line. You know, I mean, it it was but it was an all star game. Everybody had fun and they continued and then now it’s over and people can look back at his and other successful All Star game.
Santiago Leon 6:10
Something that I wish used to say that but I thought it was very successful. I think it felt Yes, I know LeBron one again, like his fourth time in a row. But I but I really do think that this all star game was much more appreciated. I feel like the previous ones were not jokes. They were kind of like low key entertaining a little bit, but I thought this one was because because of the pandemic, you kind of appreciate it more a little bit. And, and then of course, the Brom plane, I guess, was like a big factor.
Jordan Vargas 6:43
Now he had four points, though.
Santiago Leon 6:47
What happened there?
Jordan Vargas 6:48
I don’t know. I don’t know. But But no, I think I appreciate the players though, for really, you know, there was some, there was some back and forth Aaron Fox that if I’m being completely honest, I think this is stupid. And then LeBron, this is before the all star game. This is one there was a discussion of one. And then it seemed like they kind of all put themselves aside and just put the fans first and said, you know, let’s put on something for people who tuned in to us day in and day out. And I did that.
Santiago Leon 7:16
Yeah, they did that. And jolin bead actually is a COVID protocol. So he’s out for five days. Well, like the thing is he’s been exposed to COVID never got COVID negative yesterday and today. So he’s exposed, but he’ll be back now if he would have played for Team Duran things would have been different. Maybe? I mean, I don’t think I don’t think mbeadh would have put 20 back up. But I think you know what I made a little bit more interesting. And also, one thing I noticed or everyone noticed, this is the first time that that Stephon curry and LeBron James played.
Jordan Vargas 7:52
Yep, on the same team.
Santiago Leon 7:54
And worked out well because I thought those two they didn’t like each other. But it worked that well. They’re both from Akron, correct. And I thought curry was gonna win the MVP.
Jordan Vargas 8:03
Right, but I mean, curry won three point contest. He was on a roll.
Santiago Leon 8:07
Yes. And we’ll get to that right now. Steph Curry won the three point contest for the first time even though he’s, he’s, he’s participated several times. Yeah.
Jordan Vargas 8:16
Last time he came close was against his teammate Klay Thompson and Klay Thompson took them.
Santiago Leon 8:22
Now if Klay Thompson was healthy this year, it could
Jordan Vargas 8:26
get away Tom’s direction but curry put up 2828 is extremely extremely hard. It’s
Santiago Leon 8:31
difficult, isn’t it? Um, he he beat out Mike Conley and Jason Tatum in the final round Curry’s final shot a two point Moneyball put him one ahead of Conley for victory. He became just a seventh player to win the contest multiple times. And the first to do so since Jason Coppola and 2008. So
Jordan Vargas 8:52
Wow, well, fun fact.
Santiago Leon 8:54
Yeah, so interesting stuff. Curry. Of course. He’s a three time NBA champion. Nevers won this contest. Everyone thought that he was going to win and eventually he did finally, I’m not saying towards the end of his career, because it’s always 3233 right. Alright, so now athletes are playing to like, like their late 30s. So there’s still a
Jordan Vargas 9:13
he saw his time.
Santiago Leon 9:15
He still has time to hopefully win another championship because because because I like his style. You know, but he can’t carry a team like Jordan. Now, that’s the thing with him.
Jordan Vargas 9:26
Yeah. Jordan when he stepped on the floor as a bull I think what made him a leader. I don’t want to get off topic but no, no made him a leader was that he was when he arrived to Chicago I believe in at his first shoe came out in 85. When he arrived in 84. I believe he arrived in 84. Yeah, he was the so he was a leader he immediately established himself. Curry when he arrived the Warriors he was kind of a late round draft pick came out of a small division one school Davidson and then you know, then he progressed became Korea and Michael was demand since day one.
Santiago Leon 10:04
Yeah, yeah. Right by Korea because there was one other player ahead of them that was a star didn’t work out. And the front office at Golden State saw something. And curry is like these demand. There’s some doubters, of course getting small. But he you know, hey he became the man putting some weaponry around him with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and obviously a good coach Mark Jackson was a good coach but couldn’t take him to the edge and of course, I guess Steve Kerr that took them to the edge and hopefully they are able to resolve it even though they’re at the ninth seed for the West very competitive West with Utah up in first place. Slam Dunk conference, Jordan and for me semmens made history at halftime first time a slam dunk contest at the halftime during the all star game which I would diapers if that was perfect. And by becoming the first Portland Trailblazers to win the 2021 att t Slam Dunk Contest or you thoughts about him winning it
Jordan Vargas 11:09
um it was good and he was the one ob Tipton was a finalist I don’t know if it’s topping or tippin ob
Santiago Leon 11:15
i think i think they’re saying toe toping weight topping
Jordan Vargas 11:19
I don’t know I honestly can’t ob
Santiago Leon 11:22
ob perfect anyways. Oh
Jordan Vargas 11:23
be top Oh, it’s so hard not to ob top and he did. He did good. And it was I’m glad to see him was in the dunk contest and actually did fairly well. And we you know kind of people from New York to see more of a taste of them. And if you watch them at day and you would see that he was throwing down some insane dunks, so it was no surprise that he was going to be in the all star game but he held his own against Anthony. He held his own
Santiago Leon 11:49
semmens Rose high above the basket for his contest winning dunk and appeared to be attempting to kiss the rim stopping just short on the successful one handed jam. It wasn’t easy donkey was trying to kiss it. I don’t think you’re able to do that. Well dunk it.
Jordan Vargas 12:05
You have to really get high up there.
Santiago Leon 12:07
But that guy was I mean he could jump so high like 11 feet. Yeah, easily. Um,
Jordan Vargas 12:14
I thought that I favorite dunk that was ob when he jumped over his dad and
Santiago Leon 12:19
Julius Randle or his other colleague. Yeah,
Jordan Vargas 12:21
yeah. When Mele that jumped over to people who are six, seven, I think like six three is dad and one meal that over both of them. So I thought that was an impressive dunk.
Santiago Leon 12:33
cashes was the other player cashes, Stanley. He was the other
Jordan Vargas 12:42
family out of Duke played for I think he’s on the Pacers?
Santiago Leon 12:46
Correct. He had a good first time Jordan. But then after that, he just
Jordan Vargas 12:50
he says well I remember when he played High School at Sierra Canyon.
Santiago Leon 12:55
I was he that
Jordan Vargas 12:56
Sierra Canada’s one of the top high school teams in nation with Ronnie James which is LeBron James his son, Dwyane Wade, which is Dwayne Wade son, and Scottie Pippen Jr, which is Scottie Pippen, son so that team was sec so when if you guys watch his high school tape, you’ll see he was doing some insane dunks. I was happy to see him in the all star game.
Santiago Leon 13:14
And all those sons were better than Michael Jordan son because Michael Jordan son,
Jordan Vargas 13:18
oh, my Yeah, you play that when you’re young, which is magnets go in Chicago and then went to University of Illinois and they went to UCF but they never had the career that Scottie Pippen or the Dwayne Wade suns gonna have
Santiago Leon 13:32
your boy democritus a bonus one, the 21 Taco Bell skill challenge. The feeding center, Nikola vujicic the big man contend to rule the Taco Bell skill challenge.
Jordan Vargas 13:47
That surprised me the big man when the big man went in, but I mean, I guess anything like anything can happen, but he’s a good player sampling.
Santiago Leon 13:55
I give it to him. anything happening with the NBA All Star weekend? But yeah. Team LeBron one. Steph Curry, one of the three point contest, he should win the MVP. JOHN has won the MVP. So bonus one, the Taco Bell skill challenge. And Anthony Simmons won the slam dunk. Jordan, I personally think and maybe NBA won’t listen to me on this, but I think they should have it all one night I think worked that well. Slam Dunk Contest at halftime. Hey, well, yes, the alternative will be halftime show. I understand. It could be some type of singer or some type of group playing. But I like the slam dunk contest and the halftime show. I’m not sure what you think about that.
Jordan Vargas 14:37
All the reason why I’m against that is because it doesn’t really give players much of a break. All Star weekend is really for all the players who aren’t participating to, you know, fly down and watch, you know, their teammates compete. So if it wasn’t one day, that’s not really a break. That’s just kind of a day off for people who aren’t playing and by that time they come they return back. It’s their back to work and so I think last weekend’s a good time for a break.
Santiago Leon 15:02
You make good points there and I know that tn T was asking Stephen Curry about hey, how’s your arm? I mean, are you tired after the three point contest now playing the game? There’s like no man just warming up. It was probably tired.
Jordan Vargas 15:15
Yeah, I like Curry’s extremely humble. very humble guy.
Santiago Leon 15:19
Hopefully he’ll take the warriors to the playoffs. Now. Klay Thompson. He’s out all year, right? Yeah. Okay, so it’s only that that’s
Jordan Vargas 15:29
heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking. Hopefully. We’re not going to see another de rose situation where it’s physical he can’t keep up correct
Santiago Leon 15:37
because you know, because it felt like it will be off for a year that he re injured himself. So it’s quite different how how things go during the all star game and throughout the night, there was news that Blaine Griffin is joining the Brooklyn Nets all star six time All Star agreed to the net with a personal knowledge of details. He became a free agent Friday night, and then completed the buyout with a drip pistons he’s joining the all star clutter with harden, Kyrie and Durant. Jordan,
Jordan Vargas 16:08
what are your thoughts? This is getting out of hand. This is getting out of hand if I’m being honest. I mean, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving James Harden. I mean that that’s the lineup right there. And we had a conversation earlier. Are the Nets gonna keep saying number one, or the Sixers or our the Sixers gonna stay number two, you know, the six is gonna catch up after that. Santiago, that’s not gonna happen, especially with Blake Griffin. I mean, those are some
Santiago Leon 16:39
all stars. tipping point for the nets.
Jordan Vargas 16:41
Correct. I mean, those were Team USA guys back in 2016.
Santiago Leon 16:47
But how is playing Griffin’s playing level? I mean, has he played these past six months this past year? Is he still good?
Jordan Vargas 16:54
Yeah, he still good, I think got stronger. And he definitely worked on his shot two people kind of go after a big man shooting like him since he was mostly known when he was at La for working down with the post and you know, maybe making a couple mid Rangers, but he got a shot down, he got stronger. He’s gotten he’s getting a little bit older, which is going to you know, maybe it’s going to make a low impact on the game. But when you have someone like Duran to back him up or not, then I’m not saying the same position, but you have the leadership and you have the energy you have to re have Kyrie and harden to keep they know what it’s like to be at that level and to be a superstar like that. So they’re just gonna keep pushing each other.
Santiago Leon 17:32
Bye. Bye. Bye big of Griffin going to Brooklyn. This gives them the best chance to win an NBA championship way more than he was with the clippers. And now he’ll be a row player supporting the trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving as nets push for their first NBA title. Griffin has struggled so far this season due to injuries with injuries but his talent and pedigree making Well, the risk for Brooklyn. Sean Mark says Brooklyn’s very fortunate to had the veteran big man 13 he he gave back over $30 million in order to secure his free agency. So now it’s now Brooklyn is a powerhouse. This is a super team. This is a team that is it a guaranteed championship Well, you still got to play those games.
Jordan Vargas 18:20
And what the situation kind of reminds me of, especially since you’re you live in Miami, you recognize when LeBron Dwyane and Chris Bosh men now you got hardened Durant and Kyrie if that is Haslam is kind of like the Blake Griffin for them so you were kind of seeing that little little change you know, Nova roll player that’s back up but he’ll back up and what’s good about Blake Griffin is that he could back up the rent and he couldn’t really back apart and but he can back up Duran if he needs to he can back up hard and maybe a little bit but so it’s gonna be good
Santiago Leon 18:54
with a team like LeBron and the Lakers be worried now.
Jordan Vargas 18:58
Yeah, well especially since the Lakers are falling I’m now in the fourth spot fourth place
Santiago Leon 19:02
and Utah’s rising
Jordan Vargas 19:03
yes correct. So it really an earlier in the season it was opposite you know Utah was like fourth fifth and now Utah rose so number one when you have people like you know, Donovan Mitchell who was up and coming point guard in the NBA you know he’s been in the NBA for a couple years now he’s where he’s just starting to grow. Rudy go bear so I mean you have a few players
Santiago Leon 19:27
something that definitely okay yeah,
Jordan Vargas 19:28
like this Utah but the Lakers should be a little stressed out.
Santiago Leon 19:31
Let’s just out the clippers. I don’t see much site in them but I see a lot in the East so like the Sixers or the nets are the favourites to win and of course Utah in the West. But hey, second half of the season starts Wednesday. Jordan is interesting because of because like the last final game possible as it is actually July 22. So it goes on to the middle of summer. So it’s gonna be
Jordan Vargas 19:56
it’s gonna not leave and we’ll see what NBA Summer League brings to And that may not leave much room for NBA Summer League. And I don’t think the NBA can really go another year without having some type of preseason training, because I think the training camp this year was good. But it was kind of funky the way things were done and the people that were, you know, traded or waived. So hopefully, some league will allow players out of college to really showcase their skill.
Santiago Leon 20:24
Something definitely look at and all these those dates changes because of COVID. But now with the vaccine, things are hopefully getting a little bit more normal, but only time can tell. Right, Jordan, you were featured recently on a new segment up in the Midwest of Chicago. Tell us a little bit. A little bit about that.
Jordan Vargas 20:44
Well, I live in Naperville, so my Naperville television, Meagan contact, and they wanted to do a new segment on me just being a kid, kind of in their backyard, having a podcast and in working with different people having different experiences. So they gave me a nice little five, six minute interview. And I got some footage for me if you guys don’t know, I ran across country. And so you know, though, they were at a lot of our events since we were the one of the only sports during COVID to really continue. So yeah, they just, we worked out a nice interview and they gave me a nice little segment.
Santiago Leon 21:21
And he also mentioned the webcast. And it was awesome. Really, really awesome. The they mentioned us and of course, Jordan very talented figure cross country knows a lot about basketball and sports comes from a good family. And hey, he’s only 18 so they gave
Jordan Vargas 21:41
they get contact but they gave you a nice little clip. They took a screenshot of the of the website and then they had the head you right there.
Santiago Leon 21:48
Yeah, I know that was very generous of them. And of course, you know, hey, Jordan is a big, big asset here at sports cast and really glad that you had the opportunity of being part of this great network here. And of course you see Jordan here running cross country, which is tough. You were telling me you ran seven eight miles a day.
Jordan Vargas 22:12
Yeah, depending on training it was easier it was it was hard. Usually if it was like an easy day it was like seven because you know you’re not going very fast but if it’s hard day you know it got pretty got pretty difficult.
Santiago Leon 22:23
Jordan what keeps you how do you keep up with that like endurance to keep running that long and that far?
Jordan Vargas 22:33
Um, yeah, I really started running when I was younger. So I’ve come from running fast and my uncle’s ran my grandfather ran my mom ran so I don’t know it’s kind of in the family I guess just to keep going and I had to build my Darren’s over and over again. So
Santiago Leon 22:49
there you have it, and Jordan Vargas cross country but also sports cast NBA contributor and you can definitely follow us and we have a we have some news later on with Jordan Vargas, more game more integrated with the sports guys and also you’ve been posting clips on Instagram. Tell us a little bit about that.
Jordan Vargas 23:09
Well, I’ve been posting you know, kind of reaching a new level of engagement where people can have more of a visual and watch a video versus then having a photo and feel obligated to like it when they can you know watch a nice little clip and give them more of an insight and and you know, usually what I like to do is if they have a question in their head, I would like to answer it and put it on a video so it increases their attention and it will just you know some of the graphics you know kind of put maybe ESPN or sports center you know club sports you know graphics and a little bit of run for their money but um you know me and Santiago working behind the scenes to create different designs and hopefully grow
Santiago Leon 23:49
and love it really appreciate it and you’ll definitely see that more in the future. Anyways, we got run Jordan, but what is the best way to reach you online?
Jordan Vargas 23:59

Yeah, I’m feeling very NBA looking forward to towards the playoffs and so why why
Jordan Vargas 24:59
