This week was well, NFL pro days these past couple weeks. A lot of the the big names that you’ve heard in college football, were trying out in front of coaches, NFL coaches, coaches traveling to respective schools. This is quite different because last year a year ago, a lot of the coaches were not able to visit in person due to COVID-19. But this year, things have gotten a little bit more calmer. And great to see some action. Twitter was definitely trending a whole lot throughout the week. And today we’re gonna talk about NFL pro days, we got a special guest. Eva Holman, from high honesty. He runs a website that follow these players. And David, welcome to the sports cast.
David Heilman 1:43
Hey, thanks for having me on. I appreciate the invite.
Santiago Leon 1:46
So I found David on Twitter, which almost half of my guests I find on Twitter and they graciously come on to the show. So David, tell us a little bit about yourself and your website.
David Heilman 2:00
Yeah, so I’m David Heilmann. I am dynasty dorks. We have a bunch of social media content. We have youtube youtube channel dynasty, dorks fantasy football. For the podcast. It’s a year round Podcast, where we’re gonna talk dynasty football, but just fantasy football and football in general. So we’ll talk about news and then we’ll talk about the fantasy implications. I’ve had amazing guests on this this offseason, Matt Hicks from NFL Draft Bible. Michael left Florida for medical network. So just check us out at dynasty dorks
Santiago Leon 2:47
and dynasty durricks. covers all around with football and fantasy and also pro days and things like that. I’m a fantasy guy as well, David, the news yesterday, NFL is gonna increase their regular season 217 games were thoughts over that would that be also impactful for for NFL fan? fanatics that likes the gamble and has a fantasy pigs going on?
David Heilman 3:16
Yeah, so I’m in fantasy football. We say friends don’t let friends have week 17 championships. Well, now friends don’t let friends have week 18 championships. So be you know, when you’re setting up your legs. Make sure you’re double checking those settings so you you know don’t accidentally have you know, week 16 championship words two weeks early or you know, if you don’t want to final you know, everyone’s gonna rest. Week 18 championship, this make sure you guys are checking that out.
Santiago Leon 3:48
Definitely. So an extra week for you to recover if you need an extra game to make it to the playoffs and things like that. So this week, David was NFL pro days. A lot of people look at these days to see what team your favorite team might choose. I’m a dolphins fan. We’re looking at receivers. You’re a Giants fan, as you told me and I’ve heard some things they want to get things accomplished. What were your overall thoughts so far?
David Heilman 4:19
Yeah, um, you know, if you’re on Twitter, you can see all the you know, the hype and everything. I would say temper some expectations. Most evaluators will say that their evaluations are pretty much done before the combine before pro days and things like that. They’re going there so they can see the measurables to see if the guys are still at the same playing weight. As well as just kind of check the boxes. If someone runs faster or jumps higher than they expected. They might go back and rewatch the tape. But um, no one’s gonna take you know, somebody’s having a good Friday and all of a sudden this router turns into a first rounder. dalvin cook had a horrible brother. He still did pretty fine. But again, take these with a little grain of salt and also like pro days are a little different. I think everyone’s thinking the numbers are a little bit fudged.
Santiago Leon 5:11
Definitely so a lot of these coaches have their player in mind of course, some players are are solidifying what they want and what they get. We know who the first pick will be. Trevor Lawrence, of course, Jacksonville, even Urban Meyer was, was hinting it well, he pretty much said flat out I want to pick Trevor Lawrence. So that’s not me guessing games, and things like that. Anyways, let’s look at what has been happening these past couple of days. Start with Alabama, a nother big school. Probably I’ve been here about 13 players might go in the first round from Alabama. David, tell us your overall thoughts over this school and this talent pool coming in? To the draft?
David Heilman 5:59
Yeah, Alabama is you know, that’s the pipeline for NFL talent. sec is the pipeline for NFL talent. And this year is absolutely no, no different. Patrick certeyn is the number one corner Christian bar more is the number one defensive lineman nyjah Harris is most people’s number one running back. Landon Dickerson might be then you know, he might be one of the number one offensive lineman. And then deonte Brown is one of the top interior lineman as far as a guard. And then there’s just there’s so many guys that you know, probably will be second or third rounders. You know, pretty much everyone that puts on an Alabama jersey and starts a game gets a finds their way in the league.
Santiago Leon 6:48
Mack Jones, a player that’s been making a lot of noise this past couple days, for a Niners made a tray with the dolphins. Also the Eagles Niners are in the third draft pick, rumored to possibly get Mack Jones, David. And obviously, that there’s another rumor that patriots might trade up to get Mack Jones, do you really see Matt Jones getting that third pick?
David Heilman 7:13
I personally don’t. But I do listen to Daniel, Jeremiah quite often. And I trust what he says. And Chris Samms as much if you want to make jokes. I mean, he’s got a pretty good track record too. But Daniel, Jeremiah said, I absolutely do not see the fit. I do not see why you do this, you don’t trade up for a guy you don’t need to trade up for and go and grab them. Um, you know, especially the traded three, you know, three first round picks for this guy. But he said he hears very, like, he hears a lot of a lot of closed sources that say, Hey, is pointing towards Mack Jones. Um, but they still think that Justin fields is the guy and then Wilson will go to
Santiago Leon 7:52
something to definitely look at, of course, I’ve been hearing the Patriots are interested in Mack Jones as well. And then I heard another report today that they’re interested in garofolo. So we don’t know what we don’t know. But hopefully, you know, probably find out too, like NFL Draft day, so it’s gonna be quite wild, isn’t it?
David Heilman 8:19
Yeah, Bill Belichick is you never know what that dude’s gonna do. In free agency. Everyone expected him to go get a big name receiver. So what did he do? He got two big name tight ends. Um, we’re gonna see maybe Mack Jones slides, the 15 and then the Patriots trade out of the pack. I mean, he just he’s such a wild man. You don’t know what he’s gonna do. But I do think, you know, he’s, he’s pissed off that they they saw Tom Brady win a ring. So he’s he’s definitely going to be looking to stack up the board. But they tend to trade back more than trade up.
Santiago Leon 8:53
Yeah. So we’ll see what they do. This year around a little bit later of the week. Last week, Friday, March 26, BYU, a school that doesn’t make noise on pro day, but this year, they are due to quarterback Zach Wilson, a team a New York Jets had their newspaper in New York. One of their newspapers saying Broadway’s Zach referring to Broadway Joe, back in the 60s. David, are you going to I mean, what were your thoughts over Zack Wilson’s performance? And do you think he’ll go to the Jets?
David Heilman 9:29
I do. Um, you know, one thing that you’ve seen the blueprint to a lot of these Super Bowl teams, whether they’ve not necessarily won the Super Bowl, but gone to the Super Bowl on rookie deals, and rookie quarterback deals. And for Sam Donald, Sam Darnell, I think is on the way out of town. I think it’s a $4.5 million hit this year. If they if they were to tag him next year, or in a fifth year option to be $20 million. And then they were to extend him that’d be $30 million or no franchise tag. So you’re looking Add a fifth year option of 20 a franchise tag of 30 so it’s $18.5 million each of the next three years or you can get your pick of your quarterbacks Trey Lance sec Wilson Justin fields for eight and a half million for the next four years. So it just makes way too much sense and then they can trade you know trade Donald for a second round pick and get some you know get get some draft capital on top of a get a receiver running back some like that.
Santiago Leon 10:25
Now, Zach Wilson Of course, um comes from a I mean rarely small school BYU, not a power calm, not a power conference whatsoever but a great player. But tell us about his performance during pro day. And do you think it was enough to go to that second pick?
David Heilman 10:49
I think so. Um, I mean, everyone else seems to think so and they’re smarter than I am. Um, you know, they said the one thing that really stuck out to me was that the 40 Niners tried to trade all the way up to three and they didn’t trade up to two because two is not going to move that tells me a lot if they were going to stick with Sam Donald they would be trading out of that second pick. But they’re they’re picking a quarterback at two and Zack Wilson he’s going to fit that scheme everyone you know, I know you’re a dolphins fan, but when you see those jets jerseys, you expect crappy quarterback play, but let’s remember that’s the 40 Niners coaching staff that came over yet Robert Solow, you got the floor, it’s going to be a different type of scheme. It’s going to be a Kyle Shanahan, you know, Sean McVeigh type of an offense, and they’re going to look for someone that can, you know, do some of the RPO stuff, but also be able to do the play action. And you need an athletic quarterback with a big arm. He’s the fit. I mean, I Justin fields is my number two. I think that would be just as good of a fit. But it does sound like Zach Wilson is going to be the guy.
Santiago Leon 11:54
Zach Wilson byobu going to Broadway. quite quite interesting story for him. And hopefully this will be a hopefully this will be for the Jets. Hopefully this is the quarterback that we’re going to be seeing these upcoming years. Of course, Sam darnold, you know, drafted about couple years ago, about three four years ago, has not lived up to the moment, you know, some Jets fan say hey, he pretty much didn’t have receivers or didn’t have the weapons. And then of course, he was dealing with Mondo and some injuries. So yeah. Luckily, it came his way that it
David Heilman 12:32
with em with Wilson just to talk a little bit about his pro day he hit 69 of 70 throws, he is super accurate, as well as his athleticism he, you know, they call them the Mormon mahomes of the Mormon man Zell. he’s a he’s a playmaker, he’s very athletic, but he’s for his size. He’s got a strong arm. And then he matches that with the accuracy, which I think just you know, people are excited about that. And he came in measuring a little bit bigger than what people expected. I think it was six to like to 15 to 20. So he’s, he’s more like, kind of get Jared golf kind of size. But people were expecting him to be a little smaller.
Santiago Leon 13:08
definitely looking forward to see this guy going into the draft in Cleveland next month. A couple days later on March 30th. On the Tuesday, Ohio State’s turn. A couple players there. Of course, Ohio State produces a lot of players. They’re projected to have 10 players from Ohio State to go into the first round of the NFL Draft. So another powerhouse school just like Alabama, a little bit under but they’re right up there. Quarterback Justin fields. David a quarterback that that was about to opt out last year during college football season decided to come back, had a good season, and he’s definitely going to be in the top 10 picks word. What are your thoughts over his performance this past week?
David Heilman 13:53
He blew it out of the water. Um, I think people you know, they said Oh, well. Kyle Shanahan you’re allowed to have three people go to each of the pro days and they had Kyle Shanahan and they had john Lynch and the offensive coordinator go to Mack Jones pro day so everyone was a little nervous and said, Wow, that’s feeds the whole narrative but Justin field that a private workout with Shanahan, and you can see Shanahan’s out if you’ve seen the tape, but Shanahan’s reactions to Mack Jones over throwing the ball. And it was just like you can see he was seeing Jimmy Garoppolo all over again. Remember what Kyle Shanahan did with Kirk Cousins, and yes, I can see the comparisons with Mack Jones. But remember what he did with Robert Griffin. Remember what you know, the Shanahan’s historically, his dad one was Steve Young, and john Elway. He went with athletic quarterbacks. He wants to, he wants that athletic guy and Justin fields i think is a perfect fit for San Francisco. Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna be out Out of Towner out of a job real soon, and not only they come in at, you know, six to 227. But he ran a 444 40 at that size. I mean he is he’s got everything and then he showed off the arm and he showed out I mean, people were buzzing yesterday and I know it’s your plan against air. But there’s a lot of pressure out there with all these evaluators and the TV cameras and everything. And he just he showed up. And he also showed up in the you know, college football playoffs.
Santiago Leon 15:29
Something to look at, of course, Justin fields I’ve seen anywhere. him might be going to the Panthers another option. Of course, you said the 40, Niners. Another draft mock draft I’ve been seeing alive is a Panthers, which they need a quarterback since having cam leaving. I mean, like how would you see him playing with the Panthers? I know you mentioned but the 40 Niners but how would he look with Carolina?
David Heilman 15:54
Well with Joe Brady and that offense? I mean, you saw that they had the same style of offense he brought to LSU they exploded had an extraordinary historical season. And then last year that offense really wasn’t that bad. I know they had Christian McCaffrey out most of the year but Mike Davis was a serviceable back DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson both had decent years Curtis Samuel he had a decent year but adding you know adding Christian McCaffrey back to that offense they’re probably gonna you know address some of the other needs as far as offensive line but if you put Justin fields or even Trey Lance in that offense, it’s gonna roll i mean i Joe Brady, he’s got
Santiago Leon 16:32
something to definitely look at. And of course you know, there’s some things I really need quarterbacks and there’s some teams that have that quarterback that’s kind of waiting like what should I do? Go to the Patriots or should I go they
David Heilman 16:45
may even trying to replace Teddy Bridgewater all offseason. deshaun Watson Russell Wilson, I mean, every Teddy Bridgewater is just like, he’s not a happy man right now.
Santiago Leon 16:56
something to definitely look at another guy in the middle of the road. Wednesday, today. LSU pro day, probably the best wide receiver arguably, tomorrow Chase. A fantastic talent. Of course, this past last season in the college football LSU didn’t do much. Of course they’re rebuilding. But this cat could go anywhere. Some say the dolphins Some say go to the lions. Of course where careers and dreams die by depends on you ask. David, tell us your opinion over Lamar Chase, do you think he’ll go high? And also tell us his performance at pro day?
David Heilman 17:41
So jamara chase absolutely blew it out of the water today. Um, he’s my number one. And I think that’s that’s actually how we got connected. I was joking about um, you know, jamara Chase is my He’s my one on one and one quarterback leagues for fantasy football like dynasty rookie drafts. And and the reason for that is jamara Chase is bigger than Jalen waddle and devonta Smith. He’s, he’s not as fast as either of them. But he runs a full route tree like devonta Smith, but he’s way more physical than both of them. He can get the contested catch. And and for me, he’s a guy that’s gonna he’s he’s going to be an alpha. He’s an alpha with Justin Jefferson on the field. And that that’s a that’s a great football player right there. And he you know, you saw him when he played dominating first round Alabama corners just dominating you whoever won over there. Good luck. It wasn’t it wasn’t happening and he’s got really, really strong hands. And today he really showed off his elite out is his route running is elite.
Santiago Leon 18:46
But yeah, Jamal chase had an amazing day. Some people will argue that it’s Jalen Wadler, devonta. Smith and some people will actually say it’s called that’s the number one receiver something that the dolphins will I mean, I heard they want to get pets obviously or davante Smith but dolphins have two first round picks this year. I believe their second first round pick Vic could get the vontae Smith. Of course, arguably because of the size and things like that so we’ll see what happens and took about colpitts Florida nother pro day today. I have the I do have Florida’s I don’t have the Florida stats on Kyle Trask and Pitts but what I overall thoughts over these two players from Florida and things like
David Heilman 19:43
though
so Kyle Pitts ran a four for 440 that is really fast for a titan at his size. Let’s remember you know when we compare him to Darren Waller Darren Waller was receiver coming out he He was a little bit smaller coming out of college but he played receiver at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is a triple option team, they threw the ball maybe five or six times. So he was just basically it’s an N anyways. But with Kyle pads, he is a transcending talent and a very hard position to find you see these you know, oj Howard’s and, and these other first round tight ends and they just don’t pan out. It’s such a hard position to figure out that if you can go and get called pets and he’s your tight end for the next 10 years. It’s gonna be really, really hard to pass that up. receivers, not the jomar chases come around every year, but it’s a little bit easier to find a receiver than it is tight and
Santiago Leon 20:41
something to definitely look at Of course, these players are definitely projected to go in the top 10 and the NFL Draft 2021. David, anything else before? Yeah, go ahead.
David Heilman 20:58
Yeah, I got I got some sleepers. We’ll talk about some sleeper receivers and running backs. But I do want to finish up with Kyle pet so Kyle pet six five. He roughly 666 five and five days 245 pounds 1010 and a half inch hands 33 and a half inch arm span. And then his wingspan was 83 inches. So he put together you know a monster day on top of that his his vertical was he was jumping through the you know jumping through the roof. I’m Kyle Pitts is he’s definitely gonna be a top 10 pick. Um, and I definitely don’t i don’t know if the if the Eagles are going to be able to mount the Eagles the dolphins are gonna have to pass them up at six.
Santiago Leon 21:41
Something that I don’t know what’s gonna happen hopefully a dolphin stay in that sixth spot, but something tells me they can switch it up. But
David Heilman 21:50
yeah, so So let’s talk about some some sleepers. Um, and we’ll just go through with with some of the the quarterbacks. So if you guys haven’t heard about Davis Mills, from Stanford on that’s a guy that you need to pop some tape on. He’s been rising up draft boards. Kellen Mond as well, Chris Adams was put them in his top five and got him trending a little bit. He’s got a big arm, he’s definitely a guy that can push the ball down the fields, big body athletic guy. very inconsistent, and might need some time. But those are those are two quarterbacks that I think you need to know about. And I think you mentioned Kyle Trask a second ago.
Santiago Leon 22:29
I did I did. And that’s something that we’ve definitely got to look at the sleepers, of course, you know, some some things that coaches are seeing that we’re not seeing. And they like, of course, they could are able to talk to these players in the hype the field or obviously through on zoom. But yeah, that is our recap of so far of NFL pro days. There’s still more to come, obviously. And then of course, we’ve got the draft next month. Before we go, David, do you have a mock draft in mind because I can name you the teams and you can predict which player will go to that team?
David Heilman 23:08
Well, we actually did a live mock draft episode on our podcast last last week. So yeah, you can fire him at me and I can even tell you what the guys picked. I had. I had four guys with me. So we just rotated and went through and we made the pics live. So you didn’t know what was going to happen and it was a lot of a lot of fun. Sounds good.
Santiago Leon 23:30
Let’s go for the first one. Jacksonville Jaguars. any surprises there?
David Heilman 23:34
No. I think if you sign if you sent over a blank cheque that they would send it back to Trevor Trevor Lawrence.
Santiago Leon 23:41
New York Jets.
David Heilman 23:43
Zach Wilson.
Santiago Leon 23:45
Zach Wilson is what everyone’s saying. And I’m feeling pretty confident that the big one the third. That’s where the draft begins. The San Francisco 40.
David Heilman 23:54
Niners I think it’s Justin fields.
Santiago Leon 23:58
Interesting. No Mack Jones. Not yet.
David Heilman 24:00
Nah, I’m not sold on Mack Jones and for me, he just this is what they talked about today. It was you know, Matt Jones is a guy if you draw it up and everything goes perfect. He’s great. And Alabama he never even got touched. He didn’t have a money pocket. None of that. But you look at a guy like Trey Lance or Justin fields, they can make you right even when you’re wrong with those athletic traits and those big arms. Those those guys are above. Mike Jones on my board now I believe they’re on top of others.
Santiago Leon 24:28
Number four Atlanta Falcons come a mystery. They got Matt Ryan there but they could go for a quarterback. David, what do you say?
David Heilman 24:35
I think they’re going to trade back. I think this is the most valuable trick that that can be traded back. I don’t think they’re out of the quarterback game because my no Matt Ryan restructured his contract. They can’t get out for two years. But they grab Trey Lance and sit on him for a couple years. It’d be good. But in our mock draft, Kyle Pitts went to the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta Falcons.
Santiago Leon 24:57
That is not a bad pick. Obviously that’s not good for my dolphins but we got a few receivers left in the board so nothing to worry about. Number five Cincinnati Bengals there was some chatter of I mean of chase going to Cincinnati I noticed that he spoke with them today. What do you say?
David Heilman 25:17
This is another pick that could be traded. When we’re talking about these quarterbacks. If if the Falcons pick a quarterback and you’re going back Jones is the only guy left. You might see someone run up there and take that pick. You know, Bengals got a whole lot of positions to fill, and they can go and you know, grab it, future pick. You can see the Broncos try to jump ahead of the Panthers. You see the Panthers move up. You can see the Patriots move up. The Steelers could try to move up. But for us the easy pick their pennies. So you get you get him open up, you know, protect Joe burrow and then open up some lanes for Joe Mixon
Santiago Leon 25:56
that makes a lot of sense. Very talented player definitely been projected in the top 10 for a lot of my drafts, probably most of them. Then let’s go to number six my team the Miami Dolphins making some interesting, well, great moves these past two years, the next three, three seasons, they’ll have to first round picks. David, they got to attack loa, what they’re going to do to help him out.
David Heilman 26:25
So here’s where I actually own this pick in our mock draft and I struggle with this because I’m from the mindset of you can get the receivers later and you go and get your linemen so I really, really want to play school and then I thought about Rashad Slater here. But we just talked about Adam jemar Chase is my guy and he is just he’s my guy. So I could not I could not leave the draft hoping that I got him or trying to get somebody else so I took Jamar chase at six to march a six why receiver part of the best that will help out to a whole lot.
Santiago Leon 26:59
I agree with you. I think that’s a great pick. I think Pitts chase or su are my top three for the dolphins either. That was win win for me. But the front office of the dolphins have had to make those decisions. I don’t
David Heilman 27:14
Yeah, absolutely.
Santiago Leon 27:16
Number seven Detroit Lions like my friend says that’s where dreams die who will go to Detroit?
David Heilman 27:22
Well, they’re they’re desperate to get you know, to get they have no receivers left. Marvin Jones is out of town Kenny gala days out of town. They were really upset when Miami picked the that when Miami picked the germar chase right there. Um, I think that they would be looking to move out. I think they would call the Broncos and say hey, do you want to get headed Carolina’s you can get trade lands right here. And that might happen. But we took Jaylen waddle
Santiago Leon 27:50
Jalen waddle Alabama wide receiver one of the main guys and that team that won the championship last year that’s a good pig my Alabama friends will not like that by the way. But yeah,
David Heilman 28:02
yeah, I feel bad for a while on that one. But one thing just so you guys know when Dale Jeremiah put up the for the last two classes of Alabama receivers, Henry rugs Jerry Judy devonta Smith and Jalen waddle. He actually rated Jaylen waddle higher than all the other guys.
Santiago Leon 28:19
Let’s go to number eight. We spoke about it a little bit earlier on the show Carolina Panthers. The most likely to quarterback but but what does David say?
David Heilman 28:28
Oh yeah, they’re running up. They’re dancing. They’re running up trade lands. This was the the pick was in within one second.
Santiago Leon 28:35
There you have it. Trade lands it is number nine Denver, the Denver Broncos milehouse Stadium what’s gonna happen there? Are they going to stick with their defense of mine or they’re going to go something else? What do you
David Heilman 28:50
say they’ve been marked to get a cornerback pretty much all offseason but then they just signed Kyle fuller they do need another pass rusher and Yvonne Miller’s kind of on the on the way out there but we actually took Mack Jones Mack Jones to the Broncos. Oh yeah. You know he could be used if you’re trying to make a trade if you’re gonna say hey, here’s pick nine and some others for Watson or Wilson or something like that. But Matt Jones was was there drew Locke is just not getting it done. He he’s just he’s throwing interceptions. He’s doing bad passes. They got weapons there. They got you know, they got some some good defense. They got a good running back. I think that’d be a good spot for Mike Jones.
Santiago Leon 29:32
So you concur with with popular public opinion that drew Locke is not the man. Everyone says he is
David Heilman 29:39
no Um, there’s a lot of statistics out there about you know, and I know he played with some shoulder injuries but he just he throws dangerous passes and he did that in college. So it’s not like this is a new thing. He his completion percentage is down his deep throw accuracies down and he threw it was it was Jalen hertz. Dwayne Haskins in Drew lock through the most intercept double balls last year.
Santiago Leon 30:04
Quite interesting. My Broncos fan friend says the same thing he calls him subpar. He doesn’t go to negative on them. But deep down I can see in his eyes that he’s not the man there. So
David Heilman 30:16
yeah, they’re hoping that somehow they can trade up and get Justin fields to trade Lance.
Santiago Leon 30:21
Something like that number 10 the Dallas Cowboys just signed. resigned Dak Prescott. They got him they got Zeke, what else do they need?
David Heilman 30:34
They needed quite a bit. The offensive line isn’t what it used to be. But their secondaries is pretty poor. And Patrick certeyn goes there. He’s the number one corner for me. Caleb Farley is he’s dropping down boards. He might even be a second round pick. He had to have an outpatient procedure. But it still was on his I believe his neck or his back. And people are saying he may not go until day two now. He’s not able to work out he’s not going to be ready until training camp.
Santiago Leon 31:01
Wow, that’s something to definitely look at. Of course, the Cowboys are spending a lot of money we’ll see what happens with them. They have a great team the coaching not I’m not a fan of the coaching. But we can do nothing about it because jerry jones Yeah, makes those hard decisions and we can’t we can’t do much there But anyways, that’s our top 10 you are giants fans. So I have to ask you for like the a 11 spot. What do you think’s gonna happen there with the Giants?
David Heilman 31:31
Well, um, I think they were going to go receiver, he saw a lot of mock drafts or receiver and they addressed that with Kenny golladay. That doesn’t mean they’re not going to get another receiver but now they’re not going to get one day one. They’ll probably get a receiver day two now because they got Kenny golladay they got Sterling shepherd. They got Evan Ingram, they got Terry Slayton, they need an edge rusher and they need more offensive line help. I went with Sean Slater, but I would also see them going with a Gregory reso or why is it kawhi Pitt? Kuwaiti pay for Michigan? Something like that. Like they’re they’re in desperate need for an edge rusher. And then they need some offensive line help. So that’s where I was see them going. rashaan Slater, or Gregor? So
Santiago Leon 32:17
one of the Giants owner I think he’s apart I think his mera is he like the the complete? Oh, no.
David Heilman 32:23
There’s two families. There’s two families. The Tisch family in the Mara family, the Mara family was beginning that Wellington Mara, the Duke, that’s on the NFL football. Here, his dad bought the Giants for like 200 bucks and a set of golf clubs.
Santiago Leon 32:37
Well, that’s something well, he said today that he was saying good things about the coach, Joe judge, who was saying that something’s different and the like the locker room with the players. Do you agree with that? Do you think Joe judge is the future of the Giants?
David Heilman 32:55
Yeah, yeah. If you were I’m not as high on Daniel Jones as I am Joe judge. Um, but Joe judge, he’s, he’s, uh, he’s consistent. You know, there was a coach, offensive line coach last year. That was you know, he was upset with Joe Joe judge was saying you need to teach the offensive line this stuff. And this is what I want done and he was not doing the expectations. They got into it. He fired and he’s he’s just he’s someone that’s no no BS. Everyone’s got to earn their job. And you know, golden Tate he got suspended for a game. But the culture they’re they’re building I think, you know, the free agents they added with Blake Martinez, Leonard Williams, James Bradbury, Logan Ryan. They had some big hits last year and it’s created a nice culture there they they were the defense was really good last year, they often struggle.
Santiago Leon 33:48
I would say this I know the giants are in a better place than the Jets are.
David Heilman 33:53
Yeah, the Jets got the capital. But as far as 20, as far as this year, the giants are better football
Santiago Leon 33:59
team. Definitely look at and another team we got to talk about I know you probably don’t like them, it’s the Patriots. Their team like they’re making noise already. What do you think is gonna happen? Do you think they’ll trade up and who do you think they’ll get and Like, who do you think they’ll most likely pick?
David Heilman 34:19
So the Patriots are like I said earlier, they’re such a hard team to pick. They still need a receiver. So if you see you know, you can see them go with Rashad Bateman. You can see them go with a Jalen waddle if he falls, obviously they’re they’re not gonna hit Kyle pads but it is you know, he’s not going to be not gonna be available. But if Matt Jones were somehow to be there, or at least be in striking zone where they can maybe trade up to 12 or trade up to you know, 11 with a giant something like that. They might go up and get a Mack Jones or even go up and get a tray Lance, but I just I don’t think those quarterbacks are going to be available. I think they might have to go with a Jimmy G.
Santiago Leon 35:02
That’s what I’ve been hearing a russini, the reporter from ESPN is hearing that patriots have been following. I mean, I’ve been trying to get garofolo these past couple days. So that is strong. And I trust a report of reporting because she’s really good. And so Cam Newton is more of a British quarterback. Worst case scenario for him.
David Heilman 35:26
Yeah, I mean, he didn’t sign for big money, he signed a one year deal. It’s a proven deal. So he may get the chance to prove it. But let’s not, you know, forget, he did not have a great year last year, he fizzled out after the first couple weeks, and they even tried, you know, putting instead of instead of Newton, so that that tells you a lot. But the fact that Newton is on a one year deal tells me that you know, he’s obviously not the long term option. And
Santiago Leon 35:53
there you have it, I’m not gonna go through all the pegs but if you want to touch on a few of them that you think hey, this is pretty significant. Go ahead.
David Heilman 36:02
Well, um, for fantasy football, I think it’s you know, you’re looking for the receivers and running backs. Where are they going to go? So we had an RJ Harris, go to the dolphins. We had to darious Tony actually went to the Patriots. I don’t know if I love that pic or not, but can areas Tony, he’s definitely someone that you guys need to know about. He’s definitely something as a borderline first round receiver. And devonta Smith went to the Eagles at 12. Um, you know, I really, I had 16 and I really thought about going RJ Harris or Travis etn to the Cardinals, but they lost Patrick Pearson So I went JC horn, Rashad Bateman. We took to the Colts to give them to twin towers over there. Because you got Michael Pittman and you got Rashad Bateman. You can move Bateman around he could be a big slot but you know with him and then to Hilton that would give Carson Wentz a weapons etn to the Jets. We had Elijah more in the first round and he went to the Packers if you guys don’t know who Elijah Morris that’s one of the sleepers I was going to talk about he’s he’s definitely he’s him in Amman rod state St. Brown are borderline first round guys early second round guys. And those guys can still do day one be your slot receiver. I really like those guys allows you more reminds me of Robert woods.
Santiago Leon 37:24
That’s a good sign.
David Heilman 37:26
And then we had javante Williams go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I would have had him go to the Steelers or had him go to Buffalo. But he went to the he went to the Buccaneers there javante Williams in the first round.
Santiago Leon 37:42
There you have it, David Holman following the NFL mock drafts. And we’re here at the sports cast had been moving things around. We got Byron Jones, and of course Tyler Turner doing these mock drafts, but they haven’t done one since the trades on Miami last week. So hopefully we’ll see an update this week as well. And of course the NFL draft is until April looking forward to it. I think this year’s quarterback class is very good. Probably better than the baker Mayfield class, I think. And we’re going to see some good things and so some of these quarterbacks are gonna start on day one, right, David?
David Heilman 38:21
Yeah, yeah, I know that you saw, you know, on the day they made the trade they asked Kyle Shanahan or john Lynch, what are you gonna do with Jimmy Garoppolo and of course, the trade was, you know, the ink was still drying on the paper, but they were like, yeah, Jimmy still in our plans. But I looked back at the last two years. And the only quarterback drafted in the first round in the last two drafts to not start a game before week eight. Was Jordan love. He didn’t start any games. He was a healthy scratch for most, but most, you know, Daniel Jones started week three. Justin Herbert started week two. Josh Allen started week two, Baker Mayfield started week three and all these guys you know it was tyrod Taylor is our guy. Eli Manning is our guy. yada yada yada. These guys will get in especially if the team is losing. They’ll be getting you to a they got it and he got him in last year when they were even they’re winning. And he even played you know before we gate
Santiago Leon 39:22
who is the number one rookie this see for this year that you will pick for fantasy Hey, this is a this is a safe pick. You’ll get some points out of them. jomar chase
David Heilman 39:34
jemar chase I will say that but I will. I will consciousness with running backs typically do perform better. As far as fantasy football year one last year was an exception to the rule with how amazing those receivers then. So I’ll go with I’ll go jamara chase but I will split that with Naja hairs.
Santiago Leon 39:54
That is definitely a good one. And to be honest, I would definitely pick a running back or wide receiver rookie rather than an a on qb typically are safer cubies i mean kind of stumble i think
David Heilman 40:08
in my opinion it’s it’s gonna be kyle pitts is gonna be the interesting one there’s a fun fact so there’s only been three tight ends that have finished as a top 12 tight end the rookie year in the last 20 years jeremy shockey rob gronkowski and evan ingram evan ingram was the only one in the last 10 years and it was because on week three the giants lost all three of their top receivers and he ended up with 125 targets but you look at tj hawkinson no you know no fant all these highly drafted guys david njoku you know whatever they they don’t hit your one this it’s really hard mark andrews didn’t your one george kittel didn’t hit your one it’s very hard but kyle pitts might he might break that
Santiago Leon 40:55
dave holman fantasy looker definitely looking at what’s going to happen i actually picked clyde edwards hilaire as a rookie he did okay at the beginning but then it kind of faded off a little bit and then the middle and towards the end
David Heilman 41:09
yeah yeah we just did a recap episode of sophomores you know going in for us you know jonathan taylor is obviously the number one out of that class but for me the number two is deandre swift i think his past catching ability as well as you know getting him hooked up with anthony lin anthony lin targets the running backs just as much as the receivers and the running backs getting targets in the passing game is three times more valuable than a carry so you’re gonna want those running backs that are getting those those you look at the top 12 running backs at the end of the year all those guys except for derrick henry who had you know 15 touchdowns or whatever all those guys caught you know 40 or 50 balls and that’s where you’re getting the additional yards plus the ppr points in the in your ppr leagues but cam akers is my guy i can’t make this my other guy obviously jk dobbins and antonio gibson um it was a really good class dobbins just is involved in the passing game is has me lower on him than acres and swift
Santiago Leon 42:08
we’ve got to have you back later this year for a fantasy show
David Heilman 42:15
100% man that’s that’s what i’m about and i’ll invite you guys to mine
Santiago Leon 42:19
absolutely man because i’m because fantasy i think plays a big part in any nfl especially i’m not saying it’s 50% of the revenue but it feels like it’s a lot and i watch more football because of fantasy but anyways yeah no absolutely that’s just my take i put on like red zone dude red zones like the fantasy like parallel i love it
David Heilman 42:41
yeah when you’re watching the jacksonville jaguars versus the the las vegas raiders on thursday night and you’re glued to the tv it’s because you got james robinson and darren waller in your lineup it’s not because you’re you’re a big jaguars and raiders fan
Santiago Leon 42:57
it’s become more of a player league than a team league
David Heilman 42:59
absolutely
Santiago Leon 43:02
david holman what is the best way to reach you online and also listen to your podcast and read your articles online
David Heilman 43:10
so like i said earlier it’s at dynasty dorks just spell just the way it sounds and it’s the same thing for youtube spotify apple podcasts google podcasts and tik tok so at dynasty
Santiago Leon 43:22
dorks oh you’re in tick tock to win on tick tock we should definitely think about doing that
David Heilman 43:27
because that was the video that you saw was actually a tick tock wow
Unknown Speaker 43:31
yeah
Santiago Leon 43:31
i i will have to get more on tick tock i’m more of a an instagram reels guy
David Heilman 43:38
there you go he’s not on there
Santiago Leon 43:41
yeah it’s not as good as tick tock i think instagram tried too hard on that one but tick tock is like taking on its own it’s it’s going it’s going third dimensional anyways you can reach us at sports cast one on twitter or at the sports cast that net tomorrow night we got victor roadshow another giants fan going to discuss pro days as well also the giants in the future we could probably schedule you to go on their show in the future because you guys would probably get along with like the whole giants and dangle dimes and and i say quan barkley i mean one of the giants gonna win the super bowl type of thing again so we’ll see what
David Heilman 44:18
man anytime anytime
Santiago Leon 44:21
anyways which my last question is well this core like well this giants core win a super bowl you think
David Heilman 44:31
ah not right now i mean it’s definitely something i would like to say but i’m definitely a i try to be a realist there they got to they got to fix some positions and we got to worry about winning the division before we can win a super bowl but i will say that the the nfc is not as scary as the afc i think that the packers obviously are pretty pretty tough and the rams but the afc the chiefs and the best That’s those two seems too tough
Santiago Leon 45:03
before we go one more Eli Manning Do you think he retired too early?
David Heilman 45:09
No. Some people probably say retired too late
Santiago Leon 45:14
Yeah, he was definitely going down but a lot of my older giants fans say oh no, they shouldn’t let him stay he was okay. No, I think the writing was on the wall and even like the year prior of Daniel Jones they were putting in a lot of hype the other guy in as well so
David Heilman 45:30
well this is where on if you play dynasty fantasy football but dynasty fantasy football is it’s the equivalent of like Madden franchise mode for fantasy football. And if you’re a middle of the road team then you’re you’re tanking and you’re doing exactly what the dolphins did you’re doing exactly what you know the Jets did with the Jaguars that and you’re the Browns with the Browns that now they’re on the you know, on the way up, you got it you got to actually hit with those pics. But if you’re middle of the road, you need to figure out what you’re doing and either go all in or you need to sell you know, start ripping it down and building it back up. Just like just like the NFL teams are starting to do now.
Santiago Leon 46:12
David, winter there those beautiful. Anyways, David, I appreciate you coming on to the sports cast.
David Heilman 46:18
Hey, thanks anytime
