The NFL is testing all sorts of methods to make sure the game is played safely amid the coronavirus pandemic. While the league regularly looks to improve their helmets for head safety, they are looking to add an additional layer, protecting players from each other when it comes to the virus.
The N95 masks, which are used mostly in hospitals, are regarded as the top protection from spreading potential sickness from person to person. Now the league is looking for a way to put that material on helmets.
According to the NFL Players Association’s medical director Thom Mayer, NFL engineers and Oakley, who are under contract to make all face visors for the league, are working together to make prototypes that could be used for the 2020 season.
